Too many computers authorized?

I just transfered all my info from my powerbook to my mac book pro. My newer purchased music plays fine as do my movies. My account states that I have one computer authorized. When I try to play my older purchased music, it asks for my password then tells me that I can't have more than 5 authorized computers. I can't do a deauthorize all because my account thinks I have only one computer? Any help?

bkurnett,
Welcome to Discussions,
You might request help from the iTunes Store, using the form on this page:
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/authorization/
Explain the problem and they probably will perform a 'deauthorize all'.
Hope this helps.

  • Re: One Too Many Computers Authorized?

I understand that I can deauthorize all my computers once a year and reaurthorize the ones I know I'm using. I'm showing one more authorized computer than I know I have and I don't know where the problem is with that. The help topic directs me to my iTunes accounts pane, but i do not see anything on that page that gives me the option of deauthorizing all computers at once. Any help would be appreciated.
I think this has something to do with my son's friend downloading his iTunes tv shows onto my son's computer. Only way he could do that is with access to my account, right? But why would downloading his stuff onto my computer affect the number of authorizations?
Can a single computer somehow end up with two authorizations?

*The help topic directs me to my iTunes accounts pane, but i do not see anything on that page that gives me the option of deauthorizing all computers at once.*
Once you reach the limit of 5 authorisations you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go from your iTunes account and start over. If you have less than 5 you don't get a deauthorise all option: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

If your system crashes or you reinstall your operating system without deauthorising iTunes first, even a single computer can use up your limit of 5 authorisations. See also this article: One computer using multiple iTunes Music Store authorizations

  • Says i have too many computers authorized

but I don't, and there is no option to deauthorize all. What's up?

    Hey Ang314,
+To deauthorize all computers associated with your account+
+Click iTunes Store in the Source pane.+
+If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.+
+Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.+
+In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.+

  • HT1420 I'm trying to authorize a new computer with an itune account, but my the computer statea that I have too many devices authorized. I only have 2 computers in my possession now. How can I deauthorize computer I don't have anymore without deauthorizin

I have recently purchased a new lap top. Both my wife and I share our Itune music. When I purchesed the computer I was able to authorize my itunes account on it and move my purchaced music over from my iphone. However, I was not able to move my wifes music over because she has too many devices authorized under her account. Most of those computers are no longer in our possession and have been thrown out. How can she deauthorzise computer we don't have in our possession anymore without deauthorizing them all?

Authorizing deauthorizing has NO effect at all on your itunes library.  You lose nothing.
You should also alwasy have a backup copy.
    You MUST deauthorize all.
You have the only answer there is.

  • Deauthorizing iTunes on a computer?  My laptop won't let me connect my iPhone because it says I'm authorized on too many computers, but when I try to de-authorize another computer I use it won't let me.  What's up?

What do you mean it won't let you?  What exactly does it say? (Sorry to sound so exasperated but this is like the 6th post in a row where people have made vague statements which do little to help us find solutions without a game of 20 questions.)  I'm going to guess and say you can only deauthorize a computer to which you have physical access or VPN login.  The alternative is to deauthorize all which you can only do once a year.

  • HT1386 i have gone through several pc units over time and when i try to sync up my iphone and ipad to my new computer is says it can not sync because i have the devices registered on too many computers. How do i fix that?

I have had several computers in recent years and when i try to sync my iphone and ipad to my new computer, it says it cant because the devices are registered on too many computers. I only need them synced up to two computers - how do i fix this?

In iTunes, under the "Store" menu, you can select "Deauthorize this computer". That will remove that computer from your iTunes account and free up a spot for the new computer.
If you have already sold or wiped your previous computers, you can log into your iTunes account from the Store menu in iTunes by selecting "View My Account xxxx@xxxx". Once you are logged in, about 1/4 the way down the page it will tell you that you have "xx computers are authorized......". Beside that you have the option to deauthorize all of the connected devices. That is the only option, you will have to deauthorize all and then set up the ones you want to use.
I think 10 is the maximum number of devices that can sync to one iTunes account.

  • Too many iTunes authorized

So, I've changed Mac laptops for about 3 times now (nothing wrong, just wanted the latest and the greatest!), and within that time, I had to authorize my Macs for the iTunes music.. in this time, due to some software failure, i had to format and reinstall Mac OS X (and iTunes with it), and so authorize the Mac to use the music I had backed up.
The thing is, now i have the new Macbook Pro, and I'm trying to play the old music.. but I keep getting the message that I have authorized too many computers, so I can't play the files without unauthorizing the other Macs..
Thing is, I already formatted and gave the laptops to my younger siblings, so I dunno how i can do this...
So.. what to do?? I've got a lota music from the iTunes store... and I wanna play them!!!
Any light you can shed on this will be much appreciated..
    Thanks!

Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article.

  • Too many computers using the product?

I have Adobe Photoshop elements on two computers. I just had a msg come up that said I have the software installed on too many computers. It has only been on the two. No recent installations either. I need help here or I am going to loose it in 30 days. Why is adobe so hard to get a hold of?

I am guessing here that multiple computers refers to more than the number of computers that you have the license for. See this document for more info: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/100/1008779.html

  • Too many computers registered?

I have no way of getting to the computers that are registered on my ipod, since i am in the military and those computers are partially in other countries. Am i just completely screwed in adding/removing songs on my ipod? Is there a way to re-set without losing everything thats on it already?

What do you mean by "registered"? Registration is between the computer and the iTunes Store account. For previously purchased songs that were +Protected AAC+ format, you can only play them on up to five computers at any given time. However, there is no registration between an iPod and computer.
The only restriction is with syncing. An iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time. If you use the +Manually manage music+, you can use an iPod with as many computers as you want. However, to ensure you do not accidentally sync your iPod to an unknown library and erase what is current on the iPod, you should open iTunes preferences, go to the Devices tab, and check +Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods+
So is this question related to the iTunes Store account and the five computer limit? Or is it related to syncing between an iPod and computer.

  • I've authorized my iPhone on a Mac but when I go to play videos it asks for authorization again, only to tell me that I have authorized too many computers. Help!

So I used my work Mac to authorize my iPhone so I can play music, but now that I want to play a movie it asks for authorization. I've already authorized that account! I don't understand why it's asking for authorization again when I want to play a movie. Plus, I can't access the iTunes store from my work computer, so I'm stuck until I go home to deauthorize my other computers. Why is this happening?

Authorization does not apply to iphones.  Authorization is for computers.

  • HT1420 I am trying to sync my iPhone to my computer with a new Apple ID that Ive just created because the original account has been applied on too many computers. iTunes is not allowing me to transfer my purchases with my new account. Help!!

I am trying to synch my iPhone with my computer, and new Apple ID. My iPhone is synced with another computer, but i have changed the Apple ID on my phone and authorized it on my computer. However, i can not transfer my purchases on to my new account. I have updated my phone, authorized the account on both my phone and my computer. And i do not wish to wipe my phone clean, because there is but one song on this new account. How do i transfer the music on my new account?

All content bought/downloaded from iTunes is tied to the account that downloaded it and it can't be transferred to a different account - so you will need to authorise your old account on that computer if you want to transfer its purchases over.

  • IPhone 4 Syncing Error- Too Many Computers

I get an error message that says my iPhone has been cynced to 5 computers and it won't sync to my new MacBook Pro. Is there any way to Unsync it from computers I no longer have access to? We're talking about computers from three years ago, before I even had the iPhone 4 (I'm guessing; the error message doesn't give me any more info than that)!

You need to do a factory reset (erase all content and settings), set up as new phone, then input your icloud info to restore some data lost (contact ect..)
    1. Set icloud to sync your important information
    2. Remove any / all data from the device (backup will not work)
***PERFORMING A BACKUP VIA ICLOUD OR ITUNES WILL NOT RESOLVE THIS ISSUE - IF YOU RESTORE FROM BACKUP THIS FIX WILL NOT WORK! MUST SET UP AS NEW PHONE!
    3.Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings
4.Setup the iPhone (You Must Set Up As New iPhone)
5.Go to app store - no error
6.Sign into icloud and itunes account (Do Not Restore From iCloud Backup)
7.Go to app store - still no error
    Hope this helps.
