Too Many Files in iWeb Site - Why must iWeb create so many duplicates?

I have created a website for all of my family photos. My current hosting plan gives me 100GB space and a limitation of 20,000 files.
The problem that I have at the moment is how iWeb creates the site and all of the required files for display. I am using the Dark Room theme in iWeb 2008. Basically, it takes the picture that you want to display, adds it to the top page, then creates a directory for that picture, and into this directory it creates and stores a micro.jpg file, a mip.jpg file, and a thumb.jpg file. So to display a single picture, you have a minimum of 4 supporting files and directories.
Also, iWeb seems to store all of the
I have a lot of pictures, around 3,000, so I am approaching the file quota set by my web hosting service. To resolve this my questions are:
1) Does every theme in iWeb create all of these additonal files for displaying the pictures?
2) Maybe I just have some preference in iWeb set incorrectly. Is there something that would improve this? I could put all of the photo albums onto a single page to reduce all of the common graphics that are being stored, but that seems a bit ridiculous to have to do.
3) Maybe I should change my web hosting company. I have checked both my hosting company and other hosting companies to see what the file quotas are. None of them seem to list this. I am reluctant to change my hosting company only to find that the new hosting company has the same sort of limitation in place. Has anyone had issues with file quotas?

To cut your file sizes, use the Black or the White template.
Photo album pages don't work too well. They look good but you have to keep the number of albums and the number of photos per album fairly small if you want the page to download in a reasonable time.
Obviously your individual image file sizes have to be reasonable.
I turn off "Optimize images on import" in iWeb preferences and use ImageWell to reduce the size because it has a visual indicator. Try it out to see what I mean...

  • My iWeb site can not be opened by many windows users only macs.

My iWeb site should open for all platforms = How to do?
I am also confused about compatability of my hard work and new iWeb sites (I love the iWeb App yet i got 4 family members all in different locations in the USA who run windows ....tell me that they could not open the web site which I announced via email.) Other Mac users did reply back saying it opened fine.
Please send me a way to enable my work to open or if u must please tell me if the windows users need a RSS Reader and or .Mac accounts and or iTunes etc etc ...I wish to feel like the work I do on my Mac is compatable for all. As is Apple continues to isolate others and will include others only if they switch....
Hey Macs are great so why not attract others with a platform that just includes all. Noone wants to enter a beautiful garden if the path to it is filled with thorns and at entrance others find a closed gate which reads You are not welcome.... that aint right and I'm a dumb bell old Dad who thought finally I was creating a web page that all could visit.
Send instructions please on how all people can access my iWeb sites.
    Alex L
My post above was replied with suggestion from Tom as seen then I followed up with thanks as seen.
Anyone else out there have problems and answers per setting iWeb sites so all platforms can access your site???
I really doubt there is any way for anyone to help
you unless you provide the url which is not opening
    some some users.
Thanks Tom for posting a reply which suggests I post my url so I have listed it below. I am just a Dad with all else so know that the guy writing this and using iWeb is a novice old man. I do like iWeb very much so if u can again reply or anyone reply how to allow all PC users to be able to visit this site than great.
    Thanks

Anyone else have ideas and or same problem?

    Thanks Andy,
I wish I could have told my sister about this as she could not open my homepage back before my new iWeb site. She now can open my site without the yet in case denial window does appear = I thank you.
I think my iWeb site works as Noone has said otherwise from any platform etc...
    Alex L
I do agree that should not have to be a consideration for any users so i agree that it would be great if Apple could allow simplicity to run seemlessly.
I have had this problem since Homepage, and here is
what has worked for me. I send out the link, and
then for PC users I send the link with "<" after the address (without quotation
    marks. e.g., <http://site.com>).
I also put a note that if that doesn't work, to just
copy and paste the link into a browser. With that I
have only had 1 person say they still can't open.
Everyone else gets it to work.
It's a lot to do and seems like a hassle, but you get
    used to it.
    Hope this helps!

PS - APPLE! When are you going to fix this??! It
seems like such a small thing yet you guys have been
    stumped for YEARS on this!

  • Cannot open different iweb site folder from iweb 8, help?

    Hi
I've made 1 site which is my website located on my hard disc. Fine.
But I imported (exported folders) another iweb site which was made on another mac butit will not open on my laptop in iweb? How can I open it?
I'm sorry if this is a daft question.
    Thanks
    Zahid

    Hi there,
If what you did is publishing to a folder and you're now trying to access those pages it's not gonna work...
The only way to move iWeb pages from one computer to another is to move the Domain.sites2 file where iWeb stores its files. To find that file go to
    User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2
If you can’t find it here search for it with spotlight. Note that the extension .sites (iWeb 1.0) or .sites2 (iWeb 2.0) may be hidden, also search for Domain only. To see if a Domain file is iWeb ’06 or iWeb ’08 select the file press Command(Apple)+i under "Name & Extension" you will find that it is .sites or .sites2.
To get the site showing up in iWeb just open the Domain.sites file by double clicking on it and your sites and pages will show up on the left side in the iWeb page browser. Note that the location, where you put the file, doesn’t matter.
Note that you have to change permissions of the Domain file to be able to edit, save changes and publish a website from another user account and from another computer as well.
Select Domain file press Command(Apple)+i under Ownership & Permissions go to =>Details =>Others and select Read & Write
You have to do that in the original user account and computer in which the Domain file was created.
If you don’t change permissions you will find an error while publishing and saving.

    Cédric

  • Old iweb site into new iweb?

Recently had to redo my computer.  My iweb site is out there on mobile me and I downloaded the folder.  I can't figure out how to set it up so iweb will open this site so I can update it...

Unless you have the domain file that was used to create your site you will have to rebuild it from scratch.  iWeb can't read/import html file.  However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the creation of the new site.

  • Problems with my Iweb site after using Iweb Seo Tool!!

I just used the Iweb Seo Tool with my Iweb 09. I followed the Seo webpage instructions to use it. I published it and everything seemed to work well.
I added Google analytics and used every option available that the tool offers
As of today. When trying to use my bookmarked link in my bookmarks toolbar, it didnt work.I entered my site into the address bar and my site loaded fine.
    But...I have some problems.
My comments in my blog have disapeared
I cant log into my MobileMe account through my system preferences
My password and use name are rejected
I can log into my site through MobileMe.com and I have even changed my password.
I have tried to publish my Iweb site and I get the error "Couldnt reach the MobileMe configuration server"
I publish using my idisk and mobileme account
I have looked on other forums and found out that if i move my "cache" from my "home" folder, to the desktop that it should work... no luck!!
    Please Help!!!!
my website is www.kulturetattoo.com if you want to see where my comments are. They are listed under "testimonials" on my home page
Can I just delete the Iweb Seo Tool and get rid of any metatags, google analytics and everything else? and have my old website back?

iWeb SEO Tool can modify your site after you've published to MobileMe. It will do it on the MMe server. Takes longer but you can avoid having to publish to a folder and then uploading from there. Also the latest version, 1.7.2, is supposed to work with blog pages according to the developer: http://www.ragesw.com/products/iweb-seo-tool.html

  • Is it possible to nest an iWeb site into another iWeb site?

    Hello,
Is ist possible to nest iWeb sites?
Let's assume I have two iWeb sites, called site A and site B. Site A is my main site, and I would like to insert site B into A, so that 'site B' appears in the navigator, and that clicking site B in site A's navigator will take me to site B?
I could drag all of site B's content elements (blog, albums etc) to A, but this would make them appear all in site A's navigator, which would give a clutter of section titles.
    Suggestions?
    Best wishes,
    Olaf.

What you do is get rid of the standard navigation by unchecking the "display navigation menu" box of the "page" inspector for each page of your site.
Build a new navigation in a text box with links to all the pages in Site A plus a link to site B. Copy and paste this navigation to all the pages of your site.
    Repeat for site B.

  • Why does Firefox create so many temp files in cache? Once it filled up entire free HD space (46GB)?

Every now & then, Firefox will have created zillions of directories and files in Cache within the directory for a Firefox profile. The directories are called 0 (zero) through F (using the hex numbers as names, i.e.g), and within each of these will be more directories (with two digit hex names). The last time this happened (1 week ago), these directories ate up ALL of my free hard drive space (about 46 GB worth).
Why does this happen? Can I stop it from happening? If so, how?
    THanks.

Yes it should be easy to reset.
    It may be set from
    * '''Options -> | Advanced | -> |Network| -> Cached Web Content''' <br /> [] Override automatic cache management
    * see [[#w_cached-web-content]]'''_cached-web-content'''
Presumably your automatic setting has been overridden and the box needs unchecking.
I know Firefox does split the cache up like that IIRC it allows the cache to be faster and solves fragmentation issues.
46GB That seems a surprising amount and can not be right if it eats up all hard disk space. I also know that the file places.sqlite is a variable size, but that is based on the system in use.
The ordinary HTTP cache is also set presumably intelligently, but can be over-ridden by the user
    This has some background info
    * https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/HTTP_Caching_FAQ
My own settings as viewed in about:support are
    browser.cache.disk.capacity 358400
    browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value 266240
    browser.cache.disk.smart_size.first_run false
My cache use is limited to about 350MB

  • How do I connect iWeb Site back to iWeb?

When my internal hard drive crashed I replaced it with a new one and upgraded to Leopard. Unfortunately I can't change my website because iWeb 08 doesn't know were it is located. I have found the files in my iDisk. If I delete all the files in the folder located at iDisk/Web/Sites/Site will I then be able to create a new website from iWeb. Or, how can I connect those files to iWeb?
    Thanks in advance.

    Bob:
Unless you have a backup copy of the domain.sites2 file you'll have to rebuild your website from scratch. iWeb cannot read the published site files, only create them. However, Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • How to create iWEB site from OLD iWEB site? (Hosted)

Okay, so the domain is corrupt.
I have the site hosted and downloaded it via FTP, wondering two things, well one really, is there a way to rebuild the site since I have all the folders, assets, html pages, and images? If so, how?
I suppose I can rebuild it page by page but want to change the theme and since I have the folders, was wondering if there was a way I can take the downloaded pages and somehow drag them to iWEB or some other MAC WEB program.
Please advise, also, any other cool programs for iWEB or web design similar to Pulp Motion, Banner Zest, and how to make a site use flash without flash?
Am also curious what else there is out there so the site doesn't look so iWeb and have the ability to change the fonts on say, WELCOME< ABOUT, HOME, and also use flash.
Have used dream weaver, not to inspiring albeit the standard.
    Thanks

If you decide to rebuild with iWeb Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • Why does FCE create so many folders

I have a dozen or so home movies all saved to two different hard drives. Each new project has FCE creating Autosave Vault, Capture Scratch, etc. folders in multiple locations. I would like to consolidate all of these on to one much larger hard drive, with a master Autosave Vault, Capture Scratch, etc. folder instead of so many. Is this possible?

FCE's normal behavior is to create certain folders specifically for each FCE project you create (including Capture Scratch & Autosave Vault).  You will notice that the folders have the same name(s) as your FCE project(s).    This is to help you manage the files associated with each individual project instead of piling them all together and mixing them up in a single Capture Scratch or Autosave Vault folder.
If you want to, you can create your own single folder to contain your captured clips.  However FCE will not automatically put them there.  You will have to copy them there after capturing/ingesting them in FCE because FCE will automatically put them in individual folders based on the name of the project within which you captured/ingested the clips.

  • One .Mac account, 2 iWeb Sites, 2 Computers.

Ok, I know a lot of questions have been asked about how to manage multiple sites, but I can't seem to find any information about 2 people sharing one .Mac account.
My husband and I share a .Mac account. We each have our own Apple laptops. We each want our own iWeb site.
Everytime I create a site, it takes over the one that he already created from HIS computer, and vice versa.
There doesn't seem to be a way for both of us to have our own sites on one account from 2 separate computers. SO FRUSTRATING.
Any help would be great, and try to leave as much technical jargon out of it. I'm a self-proclaimed idiot when it comes to computers.
    Thanks, everyone.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Neisha,
Another way to achieve what mp is talking about is for you and your husband to each create a one page "site" in iWeb and move it to the top of your site organizer. Put links (image or text) on that page to direct those who visit your short url to the correct site. I would recommend that you each have slightly different names for this site and page.
You can see an example of what I'm talking about http://web.mac.com/hoovmoss/iWeb/" target="_blank">here.
If you plan on building additional sites and splitting the domain files on one or more of the laptops to do it, though, you are probably better off using the method that mp suggested above.
I've been keeping a sites index "site" at the top of each domain file (I have one for each site on the index page), but I'm beginning to find that inconvenient, as I plan on adding at least one more site. Someday soon I'll create a domain file containing only a sites index and then manually replace the index.html file in my idisk as necessary to keep the site index linked to my short url.
If this is more confusing than helpful, let me know and I'll see if I can be a little clearer.

  • Need help detangling an iWeb site

I'm an expert user of DreamWeaver, but have never used iWeb. Trying to help a friend with his iWeb site. He's created it such that each page is in its own folder, with its own CSS stylesheet, etc. He asked for help to flatten the site structure -- all pages in the same folder, and all using the same CSS sheet. Is this possible using any of iWeb's tools?

iWeb publishes the webpages to a folder with the Sitename.
Each page has an folder with its own assets.
    Images, css files, javascript files.
The menu at the top of each page is created from the feed.xml file with a JavaScript.
That's what iWeb does. And there are no tools to detangles it.
If you want to flatten/alter/detangle/change the website, do so.
iWeb is not involved, and will happily publish the webpages again the way it was designed to do. Ignoring all the detangling you did.
Note that once published there are only webpages.

  • Why  is iWeb so slow?

I bought my Apple MacBook on 5th December 2009 from the Apple store in Manchester. When I first got my MacBook it was amazingly quick.
It is only recently that it has started to slow down. I have been using iWeb for a few months now and I have noticed that only iWeb has slowed down considerably. All of my other programmes like garageband etc. work no problem. When I load up iWeb it is a bit slow and then when I use it, it becomes even slower.
I have made a website that is over 800 pages. Will this have anything to do with it?
    Please can someone help me
    Thank you.

When your site gets big its easier to split it up into separate Domain files....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Site-Layout.html
iWeb for Musicians is about 200 pages and is built on 12 main Domain files to make it faster and easier to update.

I was looking at the images file for a site. Muse has created dozens and dozens of copies of the original graphics I placed in the site
