Too many installs, bugs etc

I'm trying to update my copy of InDesign, but my Applications Manager is out of date. I tried to download the latest Applications Manager to facilitate this, but that failed. I received an error asking me to download Adobe Support Advisor. (RIDICULOUS!) But when I clicked to do so, I was informed that Adobe Support Advisor has been discontinued. Not happy!

  • ITunes 9/iPod OS 3.1.1 combo has too many issues/bugs

After upgrading to iTunes 9 and Touch to 3.1.1 I am having too many issues:
    iPOD TOUCH:
    1. Everytime I launch music, it displays "upgrading library" message and takes eons (5 minutes) to show the library
    2. Playlists don't work: most playlists show tracks in random order not matching iTunes, and also with total number of tracks different from iTunes. This had rendered most playlist as useless. Wondering when Apple will fix it.
    iTUNES:
    1. Much hyped arranging of applications through iTunes doesn't work. I took whole lot of time arranging the applications in iTunes virtual desktop, but after syncing I found entire arrangement lost both in iTunes and in Touch. I did it many times, but with the same unwanted result.
    Any help?

That's what i used to tell people. but I up(down)graded to version 9 itunes, and version 3.1.1 for the ipod touch and now i can't restore the ipod because itunes can't connect to the software update server. why do i want to restore the ipod touch? mostly because every extra app added refuses to work! nothing launches. even apple's own remote app can't push through this mess the updates have created.
I'm on a mac. 10.5.8 everything used to work just fine before these updates. What hurts even more is that i actually had to pay for the touch 3.1.1 update as well, and now i've got a non-functioning ipod. cheers apple. How about they release an update to reverse the wonderful job this latest version has performed... Or at least a single company communication as to what is wrong, and how to fix it, rather than a dozen different suggestions in forums and non-existent support documentation!
rant now over. please just fix it apple.

  • 8g touch updated 4.2.1, problems synching apps and music. gives multiple errors; device times out, internal device errors, network times out, duplicate file, too many files open. itunes diagnostics ok. what to do?

have an 8g ipod touch which has had problems trying to play games and downloading update 4.2.1. went to the apple store who kindly downloaded the software update but now can't synch and generates multiple error messages; device times out, internal device error, network times out, duplicate file and too many files open etc etc. have latest i tunes download and diagnostic test ok. what can i do?

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

  • Logic 8.02 Crashes often. Too Many BUGS!! Unstable.

    Hi,
There's too many problems with Logic 8.02. It's not stable and keeps crashing. I save often becos I expect it may crash unexpectedly whilst loading plugins.
The final straw for me was when I couldn't even save my session - as saving it actually caused a crash. ha! (what a joke).
In one hour, I've recorded logic crashing atleast 4 to 5 times. This is why I'm making this post. Apple needs to pick up there game and release software that doesn't crash 4 to 5 times. it's lame but I can't do anything about it but wait for apple to fix it. I do push the computer really hard though. For basic stuff, logic 8's stable, but when you add things like space designer followed by other cpu intensive processes that logic starts to crash unexpectedly.
How do we report bugs to apple? I found a few bugs that needs attention.
    for example:
    1. Opening a plugin in slot 13 renders it useless cos you can't bring up it's graphics interface when double clicking on it.
    2. Can't copy an object's name and paste it to another object cos the function "command C" doesn't work after Click on the object with the logic's "text" pointer.
Run the a Mac Pro 8 x 2.8GHz on Mac OS 10.5.4 with large buffer settings.
Has anyone found other bugs? How do we let apple know?
    Thanks.
    Vaughn.
    Frustrated with Logic 8.02

Vaughn man that s.ucks. You must be ready to throw your machine out the window. However, what you seem to be saying is that this is absolutely positively Logic's fault, and that this MUST BE the norm for Logic. This type of thinking isn't going to get you anywhere. Logic is NOT your only problem, or else we all would be having these problems too! If we all were experiencing what you are experiencing, these forums would have exploded and people would be having bonfires with their Logic boxes and buying Protools systems.
It's been a bumpy ride since Logic 8 and Leopard came out, but VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE are reporting VERY GOOD to FANTASTIC performance from Logic 8, using 8.0.2 and 10.5.3 or 10.5.4. This includes a lot of pro's working on very large projects. In fact, I've seen only a couple of posts reporting crashes since 10.5.3 came out. What you are experiencing is NOT normal.
If you want to use Logic, you have to figure out what's going on with YOUR system, because something is wrong with your set-up specifically.
Try trashing Logic's prefs and repairing disk permissions. If you're working on old projects made with previous versions, or old autoload projects, try starting with a fresh slate. There have been issues with old projects and autoloads. Try a big project with only Logic's internal plugs, as there have been some incompatibility issues with 3rd party plugs. Make sure you have all updates for those. Not saying that Logic will only work with it's own stuff, but there may be one plug that's causing all your problems, and you have to figure out what it is.
Try removing rewire plug ins, especially Melodyne.
If all else fails, reinstall Leopard and Logic. A huge pain, but not as much so as making yourself crazy waiting for the solution to come from the outside.
    Good Luck!
    Z.

  • Too many touch points reported: Bug ?

    Dear JavaFX community
Following situation. I have a touch handler who recognizes special gestures and fires javafx.GestureEvent derivates on positive detection. the gesture event carries a list of cloned touch points for carrying the touches on start and end of the gesture.
Now if a listener to this GestureEvents fails for whatever reason with an uncaught exception, JavaFX touch point handling goes awry by constantly throwing RuntimeExceptions: "Too many touch points reported". From that point, the touch application is not usable anymore and must be restarted.
If the listener completes without error, the app continues to work as expected.
Firing the GestureEvent in a Platform.runLater seemed to help, but I experienced the problem at least once. The problem is not reproducable reliably though.
I believe this to be a bug in JavaFX.
    Any thoughts/hints/comments on this?
See the stacktraces below. The first NPE trace is my deliberately provoked exception. The second trace arises upon every single subsequent touch event

Yes, this is a bug in FX. I filed it as RT-34602. As a workaround it would probably be best to catch the exceptions.

  • Attempted to Install 2.3 upgrade, installer folder installed into harddrive but application will not open or replace 2.0 as it says it "should" . I have tried too many times now. Always same response.

    I installed 2.3 upgrade,
installer folder is in  harddrive but application will not open or replace 2.0 as it says it "should". When I attempt to it just reinstalls the installer, never the functioning application.  I have tried too many times now. Always same response. WOuld love to upgrade ( and purge all the alias 2.3 off hardrive!

when I went to the library folder there was no receipts only
    com.adobe.Reader whihc included install.log
so I guess that means something is missing?
If above still doesn't resolve problem - go to the folder named
"Receipts" in the Mac OS X Library folder (i.e. the main Library
not you Users Library) and delete the file named Adobe Photoshop

  • JSP bug? url.openStream() = server redirected too many times

I tried something the other day that works in Java, so it should work as a JSP scriptlet, but I received an error message that others have posted elsewhere without a compete resolution. Specifically, given a URL, say u, one ought to be able to do u.openStream() and eventually read the remote page. Typically, one might want to try
    URL u = new URL("http://someserver.com/path/file.xxx")
BufferedReader bfr = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(u.openStream()))and then read bfr line-by-line. The problem that seems to be fairly common is that the openStream() call throws a ProtocolException claiming "server redirected too many times (20), ."
What I've seen is that this exception occurs whenever the URL is outside the Tomcat server whence the call is being made; in our case, we're running "out-of-the-box" Jakarta Tomcat 4.1.29 on port 8080 of a w2k server. The code works perfectly in native Java and in JSP for a URL of the form "/anotherpage.jsp"
Is this a bug in JSP, or in our version of Tomcat, or is there just some configuration parameter that needs to be changed from its default? As I said, I've seen similar posts (with less detailed analysis) in the Usenet newsgroups, but not one has generated a response that explains and resolves the matter.
Perhaps a JSP guru out there could set the record straight? Thanks.
P.S. I know that the use of scriptlets in JSP is being discouraged, but they are still supported AFAIK.

Sure scriptlets are still supported. Most times though you can do things better with a custom tag. Why reinvent the wheel?
Just as a suggestion, you might try the JSTL <c:import> tag.
It basically does just this behind the scenes.
However I don't think that will help you in the end - it will probably hit the same error message.
My guess would be that the problem is not caused by java/JSP as such, but by a firewall, or configuration somewhere.
The following works fine for me (ignoring broken images of course)
    <%@ page import="java.net.*, java.io.*" %>
    <%
    URL u = new URL("http://www.google.com");
    BufferedReader bfr = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(u.openStream()));
    String line = null;
    while ((line = bfr.readLine()) != null){
      out.println(line);
    %>Hope this helps,

  • We have about 5 devices in our family.  My daughter's and mine don't work anymore, ostensibly because we have "too many". It has been so long since I loaded them in, I don't remember how I registered them.  What can I do to reactivate IPOD, SHUFFLE, ETC.

We have about five devices in our family which have been deactivated.  It has been so long since I registered them -years- and I don't recall  how I did it.  For instance, my daughter's IPod from when she was young doesn't work and neither does her IPod Nano.  She can't get any of her music.  My Shuffle doesn't work.  I am embarrassed that I feel like having Apple products is too complicated for me.  I can barely get through all the levels of logging in, let alone how to make the devices work again.  Somewhere along the way I seem to remember getting a message that we had too many devices on our account.  Which account?  I have given up on this so many times and now it is years later and I am trying again.  How can I get some meaningful customer service to use the products and music I bought and paid for?

I think in previous incarnations, people would have jumped all over you for your approach, but the Lion operating has generated decidely mixed or even negative reviews from users. So no one seems to disagree with you. I think many folks are simply staying with 10.6 and waiting to see if OS 10.8 is better than 10.7.  I've mostly avoided upgrading OS's, or when I do I jump over one version completely because I've waited long enough that I'm two versions behind.
Here are the things that will/would motivate me to update the OS:
    * incompatibility with MS-Office (I'm not a MS-Office fan but I do need to use it)
    * incompatibility with flash or other tools needed to view modern web content (this might be a while as I am still using several different Macs, the oldest being a 2005 PPC iMac with 10.5.8 and an fairly old/outdated flash, but it seems to still do ok with most web content). Our 2008 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac runs 10.6.8 and can do just about anything we need -- like you, I decided not to go to Lion because it didn't look like much of an improvement.
    * incompatibility with various commercial software, such as TurboTax, or with web sites I use to manage financial accounts and such things
We got my daughter a new Macbook Air just before she started college, and Lion plus a new Macbook Air model came out a month later. I am glad now about it actually, I think some of the Lion "issues" would have annoyed her greatly (especially the odd dropping of wireless access points under Lion, everyone is on wireless at colleges now). I'm hoping that the 10.8 OS will be better than Lion. We had (probably still have) a certificate for a free Lion upgrade but we decided not to use it.

  • Router connection problems - DISH satellite receivers or too many devices?

(Sorry about that - I thought I had broken the message up.)
I'm having significant issues with my Linksys router timing out, and need help. I'll try to be as detailed as I can.
    I have the following:
    - Linksys WRT54G v3 wireless router I purchased off eBay 3-4 years ago. Using 128-bit WEP secirity. Even though the model says WRT54G, my Linksys setup page says I have a WRT54GL. Don't know if that's pertinent but thought I'd include the info)
    - HP desktop running Vista Home Premium
    - Gateway Solo laptop (circa 3Q 2002) running WinXP SP3, and also have WPC54G - Wireless-G Notebook Adapter
    - Gateway M275 Notebook running Windows XP Tablet Edition w/SP3, internal wireless card
    - Linksys WRE54G Wireless Range Expander, v3
My broadband internet connects to my cable modem, which then runs via ethernet to my router. I have my desktop connected to my router via (wired) ethernet cable (port 1), and the two laptops connect wirelessly. All three computers on my network run just fine and have had no connection issues until I had two (2) DISH satellite receivers installed this past Friday.
Prior to installation, I knew I would need the two receivers hooked up to my network via ethernet cable. Since one receiver was in the same room as my router, it was easy to run an ethernet cable from my router to the receiver (port 2). I had a challenge with the upstairs receiver, because I didn't have a direct connection, and wasn't sure how to wire it. So, I used my range expander by plugging in the expander into a nearby outlet, then connecting the receiver to the expander via ethernet cable.
I had some issues getting a good signal, and did some troubleshooting but made it work. Now I had five devices connected to my router: two with a wired ethernet cable and three wirelessly.
I started having connection timeouts within about 3-4 hours of satellite [receiver] installation. All of the sudden I couldn't connect to the internet on ANY device; both laptops couldn't connect wirelessly, my desktop couldn't connect, and the receivers were telling me my connection was bad. I checked modem but there were no issues. Still, I unplugged the power cable from the modem for a minute, then reconnected - still no internet. I called my cable company to have them troubleshoot the modem, but they pinged it several times & got positive results - still no internet, so I ruled the modem out.
I tried using the Windows connection troubleshooter to repair the problem, and got a DNS error message (which I don't know how to fix). I decided to unplug my router for 10-15 seconds, then plug back in - that got my internet connection going again. That lasted a couple hours & then failed. I unplugged the router again (is that a soft reset or a power cycle?), then reconnected & was able to connect to the internet. This happened a few more times over the weekend, and finally I decided the expander might be the issue (both DISH and Linksys tech support was not very helpful).
I found a way to wire my second receiver via ethernet cable (port 3), so now I had three wired devices, and two wireless devices. I thought this would fix the problem; it didn't, but at least I learned how to wire CAT5 cable. So I got that going for me... which is nice.
I plugged the ethernet cable directly from my modem to my desktop to test the timeout, but had no issues - the modem just wasn't the problem.
I was getting some IP address conflicts on my Norton Inernet Security, so I uninstalled that from my desktop, disconnected the power from the modem, disconnected the power from the router, shut down all devices, reset the IP addresses on the receivers, deleted the wireless connection from the laptops, shut down the desktop, and just left the whole mess alone for half a day. Then I reinstalled the Norton Internet Security, connected my wired devices, plugged the modem in, plugged the router in, reset my security, connected wirelessly with my laptops.
Within an hour my connection timed out.
Trying to chat with tech support wasn't feasible, as my connection kept going out. A guy at work said I shoudl ping my IP address, and let it repeat until my connection goes out. So I unplugged the router and plugged it back in to get an internet connection, the opened a cmd prompt and typed
    ping 192.168.1.1 -t
I left it alone for a few hours, and when I came back, my internet connection was down, but I was still getting active pings - no problems there.
At this point I thought I had done everything except replacing my router (which I'm still tempted to do), but I called my broadband provider to see if there was anything they could do. One of the techs said I had too many devices connected to the internet, but I thought these routers were supposed to handle dozens of devices?
I finally called Linksys Tech Support and had a conversation for 90 minutes. We went through all the steps of unplugging the the modem, router & all connected devices, resetting the router, etc, etc. The only thing different he did was had me change my security from WPA to 64-bit WEP, and added passwords for DNA1 and DNS 2 (same password for each).
That was at 1:30am last night, and when I woke up to check my connection this morning, it was still connected. I have to check it again when I get home, but I'm wondering if I should just be prepared to get another router (and if so, any recommendations), or if there's something I'm still not doing that could resolve my issue - if I still have connection losses.
Also, I'm concerned about the security thing. If changing from WEP 128 or WPA to WEP 64 fixed my problem, I'm not sure I feel completely protected from intrusion - isn't that pretty much the least amount of security I can have (without forgoing it altogether)??
Finally, I've read a few threads suggesting possibly changing to static IP from DHCP; however, my satellite receiver installation documentation specifically advises against this for the receivers.
Anyway, I would very much appreciate some help.

  • Too many partitions in my W530?

This may look like a silly question and I fully admit that it might be it... But I have been unable to find a way to get rid of some apparently unuseful partitions in my SSD. I am attaching two images (see below) for clarity.
In image 1, I can see only two partitions, C: and Q: and there are also listed three other "Devices with Removable Storage": the DVD RW drive (D: ), the Removable Disk (F: ) and the Removable Disk (G: ). I tried to get rid of these last two (F: and G: ) but could not figure out how to achieve it. Not that their presence is a problem, just for cleaning purposes, as I do not see any need for them to be listed there. I don't even fathom what they may actually represent.
In image 2, taken from the Acronis True Image backup app, besides the same C: and Q: partitions, I also see a System_drv and an unamed partition that are not listed in the Windows-7 figure. The Unamed Partition, by the way, is always empty but I was discouraged in the past to just get rid of it. I wonder if I should, having received conflicting advice on whether or not to do it.
My question is: How can I eliminate the Removable Disks F: and G: as shown in the Windows figure and would it be a good idea to get rid of the Unamed partition as shown in the Acronis figure.
All help will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Moderator note: images totalling more than 50k converted to links per forum rules:  Lenovo Community Participation Rules

If you were to install Win7 from scratch on a brand new empty drive (spinner or SSD, doesn't matter) and not change anything from the standard default installation options, you'd get TWO partitions:
    (1) un-lettered "system reserved" 100MB, where Boot Manager (and boot menu, presented if you were to install a second or subsequent bootable OS after installing Win7 as the first bootable OS) is placed.  This is also marked as the ACTIVE partition, so that the BIOS goes here to start the actual boot process.
    (2) C-partition for the rest of the drive.  This is where Windows itself gets installed, as a "system" drive.
In the case of Lenovo-provided machines, they have installed additional recovery tools, which are placed into that small un-lettered partition normally referred to as "system reserved" and only 100MB.  Lenovo has enlarged the partition from the standard 100MB to about 1.5GB, but it's functionally identical in purpose.  Also, it's been labeled "SYSTEM_DRV", rather than "System Reserved", but this is of no relevance.
And Lenovo's also added that additional Q-partition, which is where the "data" for system recovery is placed, in the event you needed to or wanted to restore your machine to initial factory state, exactly as it looked when it first came out of the box.
So... what's critical here is that standard Windows7 requires the TWO partitions: (1) ACTIVE partition, where Boot Manager and boot menu lives and where the BIOS goes to start the boot process on what is configured as the first hard drive in the boot sequence, and (2) C-partition because that is specified as the one-and-only bootable OS partition according to the default one-OS boot menu built by the Win7 installer and subsequently examined by Boot Manager at boot time.  Since by default there is only one bootable OS you will not be presented with the boot menu, but instead Boot Manager will simply use that one-and-only OS and start it.  If you had two or more bootable OS's, you'd get a boot list presented onscreen by Boot Manager, and you'd need to select which one to boot from within say 10 seconds else the default OS would automatically be booted.
Any "system image" backup requires BOTH of the above partitions to be checked, since [at least theoretically] BOTH of them need to be backed up and/or restored in tandem should you need to recover from a disaster.  By backing and restoring BOTH, you guarantee a 100% working operating environment should you need to recover from a disaster.
Now the Q partition can be deleted (and its space re-allocated to either expand C, or perhaps in conjunction with shrinking the generally much too large C can be used to allocate one or more additional "data" partitions D, E, etc.) if you will NEVER need to or want to recover back to Lenovo's "factory-provided" out-of-the-box system setup.  This could be the case if you use an alternative method for disaster recovery, such as using Macrium Reflect to take regular periodic (say once a week) "system image" backups, say to an external USB 3.0 drive.
So you could use Macrium Reflect to take an initial "system image" backup, which would effectively be your equivalent of the Lenovo-provided Q partition content, although you wouldn't need Q if you had to restore the Macrium "system image" backup.  And then you'd just establish a weekly regime of further "system image" backups using Macrium, as your ongoing regular protection from a loss of Windows integrity which required some kind of restore to a prior working system.  In this case it would be no older than last week's backup.
If you needed more current protection, just take more frequent "system image" backups (if you only have a C partition), or add a second backup tool like NovaBACKUP to take monthly/daily "data" backups (also to the external USB 3.0 drive).
==> You don't have "too many partitions".  But the above description explains why you have what you have, and confirms that you can blow away Q if you have an alternative and superior backup/recovery method (such as Macrium Reflect) in case of a disaster.

  • Nice update but as usual too many loose ends......

A BB users since 1997 and needless to say not without peril.  The 2.0 update while generaly well designed still leaves us hanging for updates to remedy several shortcomings.
    Recent Desktop Manager quite buggy.
Print to Go software install issues for 64 bit Win7.
Print to Go issues with several models.
No effort to inform users as to how Android is incoporated in the update.
No seamless sync to Outlook via DM?  This one is a doozie considering that we get to sync seamlessly on    our handhelds.
    No native Task Manager?
No native LED color control.  ie: red for e-mail, blue for calendar etc...
No Movie Store for Canadian users.
People's love affair with RIM is in very thin ice and they need to start getting things done right the first time out.  Unlike Microsoft, RIM will not survice via patches and service packs.
At any rate, I will as will 1000's of others patiently wait for updates.
    Pat

It may be related to recent Safari updates.
I found this on a [support page for Tinker Tool system|http://www.bresink.de/osx/193281/issues.html], a program that apparently includes such a feature:
Problem: Using the feature "Repeat System Optimization" will indicate operating system errors after Safari 3.2 or 3.2.1 has been installed on Mac OS X 10.4.11. If you are using Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and you have installed Safari 3.2 or 3.2.1, performing the function Maintenance > System Optimization in TinkerTool System will always stop after a few seconds. The program will display the error message update_prebinding: too many errors (101).
Workaround: The behavior of TinkerTool System is correct. The Tiger installers of Safari 3.2 and 3.2.1 break some part of the prebinding policies of Mac OS X Tiger by installing a non-prebound version of the system's shared XML processing library libxml2.2.dylib. As a result, applications may launch slower than usual and attempts to update the prebinding information will fail. We have informed Apple about this problem and hope they will correct it in future versions of the Safari installer
    See [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8464103] as well.
If this is the issue, Apple will have to fix it with a later update.

  • Too many KeyEvents with AWTEventListener

I am using the AWTEventListener to record all keystrokes in my program. I have got this running fine on java 1.4, but when i run it on java 1.3 it starts behaving oddly. I am capturing a number of events (KeyEvent, MouseEvent, FocusEvent etc...) but on 1.3, the number of keyEvents i receive are far too many.
if i hit a key which would normally produce a KEY_TYPED event, i receive (in this order):
    KEY_PRESSED
    KEY_PRESSED
    KEY_TYPED
    KEY_RELEASED
    KEY_RELEASED
If i hit a key which does not produce a KEY_TYPED event i receive:
    KEY_PRESSED
    KEY_RELEASED
    KEY_RELEASED
I have tried this same code on mac OS X and Win2k running java 1.3, and they both produce the same results. I also tried it on a solaris system which didn't have 1.3 installed, but did have 1.4 and 1.2. Both behaved properly producing the expected number of events (one pressed, one released, and one typed if a typed event was produced). 1.4 on windows also ran fine.
I tried the same test using a keyEventListener instead of AWTEventListener, and the expected keystrokes were returned in versions 1.3. So this seems to be a bug affecting only the AWTEventListener. However I have searched google and the java forums and bug database and have found no record off this anywhere else. Has anyone else had this trouble?

Since the focus event model has changed in 1.4, the KeyListeners have become incompatible as well. If you search the forum again, I'm pretty sure you'll find something useful.

  • "Too many open files" - Mac OS X 10.7.5

I'm getting errors about "Too many open files" when trying to use Berkeley DB on Mac OS X 10.7.5.
The BerkeleyDB site mentions this, but it goes back to 2003 and refers to a file which doesn’t exist in OS X 10.7.5:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_03/html/installation/build_unix_macosx.html
I tried ulimit, but it doesn't seem to have any affect:

    Thanks,

    sudo sysctl -w kern.maxfiles=32768
    sudo sysctl -w kern.maxprocperuid=16384
    seemed to work.
    Created file /etc/sysctl.conf containing:
    kern.maxfiles=32768
    kern.maxprocperuid=16384
so that the setting would survive a reboot.
    Hopefully that permanently fixes it.

  • Too Many Files Opened

    All,
I am running on Fedora Core 10 (2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc10.x86_64) with Java 1.6.0_12-b04 (32-bit and 64-bit get the same issue) and am getting a "java.io.FileNotFoundException: ... (Too many open files)" error when running my unit tests. I have been very careful about placing things in a try { } finally { stream.close(); } block and can't figure out what is actually going wrong.
The unit tests actually work fine on Windows XP, which points me to either Java or Linux itself.
After doing some research online I found some articles and postings:
    - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg15750.html
    - http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/redhat-fedora-linux-help/73419-we-facing-too-many-open-files-regularly.html
However, is there anything else I can do within Java itself (using a VM argument, code "best practices" that I may be missing, etc. to combat this?
My Linux core configuration as based on the articles are as follows:
    $ cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max
    564721
    $ ulimit -a
core file size          (blocks, -c) 0
data seg size           (kbytes, -d) unlimited

OR you installed java as yourself and not system and you don't have priveledges to open the files
OR your code has a bug somewhere that doesn't effect running it on windows
99.999% of the time, the problem is with you, not with Java or LinuxThis actually seems to be it. I rebooted the system into console mode to avoid X from loading. I then reset the JDK to be setup by root (I use the self-extracting, non-RPM version). When I ran the test suite via Ant here it did not show the problem. Therefore, I'm fairly convinced it is actually some other application eating up too many files.

  • Note 368612.1 - DB Control Agent Crash : Too many files

    Hi
    I have a 2 node RAC
The RAC DB Control agent crash after about 4 hours of running.
Base on my check in Metalink I identified it as a bug (See note 368612.1)
The agents will open the hc_<inst>.dat file hundreds of times with new file handles before it crashes.
I cannot stop the database for patch installation.
But I propose to run a cronjob that starts the agent and stops it after maybe 1 hour.
This stop / start cronjob will maybe run once every few hours.
This will prevent the agent from opening too many files and crash.
What do you guys think of this ?

Um, have you tried the fix in the note you provided?!?!?
