Too many Lion issues, had to restore back to Snow Leopard

I appreciate there will always be quirks with a new release.  But had to roll-back to Snow Leopard due to the following issues on a new mid-2011 21.5" iMac:
- After sleep wake-up, hard-wired Ethernet loses DHCP values.  I.e., no IP address.  Takes about 3 minutes for it to re-acquire an IP address.  Under System Preferences, Network, you can watch it acquire all the DHCP values, then 5 seconds later it loses them.  Repeats.  Means that after you wake up the iMac, no Ethernet, no web access.  Very frustrating to wait - used to instant on.   WiFi turned off, I don't use it.
- Applications are sluggish to launch for the first time and not crisp.  Get to watch the bouncing ball.
- Some applications launch, you see the menu on the Apple tool bar, but not the applicaiton's main screen.  (Thunderbird 5.0.1 as an example.)  If you click the application icon on the dock a second time, then it will show.  Almost like the applicaiton launches minimized.
Yes, before the Lion upgrade, did the pre-upgrade checks - made sure permissions were okay, volume verified, everything cleaned up, apps up to date, Snow Leopard was up to date, etc. No hits, no runs, no errors.
Restored Snow Leopard from a Disk Utility image backup.   Everything works perfect.  No ethernet issues, applicaitons are crisp, etc.
Is this an issue with Lion or hte new mid-2011 iMac hardware?
And yes, I did get the famous Apple e-mail notification that your brand new shiny iMac has the bad Seagate hard drive.  Great, brand new machine, and has to be repaired.   Sigh.

Lion works fine if it's fresh installed or installed over a pristine virgin 10.6.8 system.
I bought a Macbook Air Thursday (Lion pre-installed). I bought a 27 inch iMac Friday. I installed Lion Friday. I have had to hard reboot my brand new iMac EVERY day since Friday, sometimes up to three times a day, because it just freezes once in every 3-4 videos I try to watch. Same with the Air but less frequently coz I've used it less. So Lion definitely does not work fine on a pristine virgin system.

running lion would like to go back to snow leopard what do I need to do

Insert a Mac OS X 10.6 install DVD, restart with the C key held down, and install it onto a blank drive or partition. If desired, use the Disk Utility to erase the volume with Lion installed.
If you have a Time Machine backup or bootable clone of Snow Leopard, you can restore it instead of reinstalling the OS.

  • I just upgraded to Lion and want to go back to Snow Leopard ..I have time machine..is there a way?

I just upgraded to Lion and Quicken will not work and not sure if I want to go back to Snow Leopard.  I have a timemachine and would like to know if someone could help to either get quicken working or how I can get back to snow leopard?

Did you check the Quicken website before upgrading your Mac? It specifically says that Quicken will not work on Lion.
    http://quicken.intuit.com/support/help/install--register--and-convert/quicken-fo r-mac-compatibility-with-mac-osx-10-7-lion/GEN83208.html
Just reinstall Snow Leopard. Should work fine. You can downgrade to previous software as long as the Mac supports the earlier version. If it previously had Snow Leopard, then re-installing is fine.
However!!! If you have a newer computer that was "born with" Lion, you cannot downgrade, as the firmware will not be compatible.
    Good Luck!

  • I can't install Mac OS X Lion, I want to go back to Snow Leopard

The problem is I am stuck in the OS X Lion Install window but when I try to install it, it asks for my Apple ID, I give it but It says I haven't bought Lion. So I gave up and decided to just go back to Snow Leopard, how do I do that?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Have you purchased OS X Lion? If so, check that it's not hidden in your Apple ID, so unhide it > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US Finally, you will be able to reinstall Lion.
If you want to go back to Snow Leopard, your Mac should have come with DVDs or a USB drive. If your computer came with a USB drive, just insert the USB drive, hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting, choose the USB drive and reinstall Snow Leopard. You may have to erase the hard drive before installing it.
If your Mac came with DVDs, you need an external optical drive or another PC or Mac to use Remote Install Mac OS X

  • If I want to restore back to snow leopard

I've had it with Lion. I want to restore Leopard. I have never use the backup utilities in Leopard, but I have backed up what I need to manually to another drive. What I want to ask about is app store purchases and itunes purchases and bookmarks. After I do a full restore of Leopard, basically back to "new out of the box" iMac, I have a few questions:
    1. Do I need to use the same user account when first time signing onto my iMac?
    2. After all the updates are applied for Leopard, can I simple sign back into the "iMac app store" and see all my old purchases and simply reinstall them?
    3. iTunes... I keep all my media files on an external USB hard drive for iTunes. Can I simply sign into iTunes with my account and "change back" the iTunes default media location in prefferences back to that external location, and have iTunes find and re apply everything just as it was before?
    4. I was told there is a file "Bookmarks.plist" that I can first backup, then after the full restore back to Leopard, I can simply copy back that Bookmarks.plist file and get all my bookmarks back? I know you can do an bookmarks export from safari, but I was told backing up your Bookmarks.plist files does the same thing, only slicker and better?
    5. My iCal is synced to my iPhone. Would my iPhone sync back all the events to the iCal? Can I use the iPhone to sync back info to the system?
Or do I need to first backup the iCal data somehow, also?
    6. Stickies... I believe I can backup the stickeis database file, then restore it and all my stickies notes will be intacked?
    7. Im also wondering about 3rd party software i've purchased, if that can be reinstalled and would the original activation or register codes or keys still work?
The same with "MS OFFICE for the iMac" and "PARALLELS", would their ownership register codes work as if I were simply reinstalling the program back onto the same old machine? Or would these 3rd party programs purchased with register codes think I was trying to install on a completely different system? Thus the original codes might not accept?
So thats my only real concerns...
Using the same user info when starting up my fully restored system for the first time?
Reinstalling already purchases iMac app-store items?
Re-installing 3rd party purchased software that will ask for the original activation or register code. WIll they still work?

  • Downgrade Lion back to Snow Leopard

I have a 3 month old macBook Pro - which came with Snow leopard (I have the original Snow Leopard install disc)
I have installed Lion but want to revert back to Snow Leopard
but Snow Laeoprd install app won't work under Lion using the DVD
as yet there is nothing on this laptop that I need - so I won't need a backup - I just want to get rid of lion & have a fresh start
When I try to boot from the Snow Leopard install disc (by holding C or option key) - I get a grey panic screen which says "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again"
I have done this several times - but when holding "c" I get the same message
    any ideas ?

that thread assumes you can boot from the SL install DVD - there is no way my MacBook pro will do that
    as I stated
When I try to boot from the Snow Leopard install disc (by holding C or option key) - I get a grey panic screen which says  "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again"
there seems to be no way I can get into the disc to allow me to delete Lion and replace it with Snow Leopard

  • How can I go back to snow leopard my epson stylus Photo TX810FW does not work with Lion

My Epson Stylus Photo TX810FW printer does not work with Lion how do I go back to Snow Leopard?

Did you try removing the printer from the queue and then reinstalling it?
I attempted to print this morning for the first time after upgrading to Lion and discovered that while everything appeared normal on my Epson printer, it would never print.
I opened System Preference > Print & Scan and deleted the printer.
I then added the printer back and it now working again. Worth a shoot first I should think.
    Much easier the a downgrade.

  • AS I  FOUND OUT LATE, LION DOES NOT SUPPORT ROSETTA, WHICH SUPPORTS QUICKEN AND CLASSIC AOL, AND MANY OTHER APPS. CAN I TAKE LION AWAY AND GO BACK TO SNOW LEOPARD?

I found out after the install of LION, that it does not support Rosetta, which runs Quicken and the classic AOL software and a myriad of other apps.
Can I go back to Snow Leopard? Is there a way to retrieve my thousands of saved E mails, which are saved on my Mac?
I still see the filing cabinet with my screen name but cannot get them to open.
Please help! Lion may roar, but the fact it does not support apps like quicken means it purrs.

I had the Apple store wiped out my hard drive and I restore my last hard drive downloard by first placing Snow leopard DVD in the DVD drive and holding "C" when turning on the machine then I follow the instructions. I am back on snow leopard and trying out two finance software to replace Quicken for mac 2007. I am trialing Quicken essentials and ibank. They are both compatable with LION. So when I am ready will download Lion again. Also, Micorsoft Office needs to be 2011 version for it to work on Lion

I tried to send a mail message to too many addees. when the rejection came back "cannot send message using the server..." the window is too long to be able to see the choices at the bottom of it. how can I see the choices at the bottom of that window?

I tried to send it through gmail and the acct is  a POP acct
I'm not concerned about sending to the long address list. I just can't get the email and window that says "cannot send emai using the server..." to go away. The default must be "retry", because although I cannot see the choices at the bottom of the window if I hit return it trys again... and then of course comes back with the very long pop up window that I cannot see the bottom of so I can tell it to quit trying...

My macbook came with snow leopard, if  I upgrade to Lion will I be able to use my restore disks in the future and if I do use my disks that brings me back to snow leopard, Will itunes remember I purchased Lion or will I have to purchase a second time ?

At this point, you can no longer download Lion (10.7) from the App Store, only Mountain Lion (10.8) - make sure all your applications are fully compatible if you decide to upgrade.
Yes, you can restore 10.6 using your restore disc should you wish to - and the App Store (not ITunes) will have a record of all your purchases, since it's linked to your AppleId.
