Too many printer profile choices on my macbook print window!

I hit the "print" button on my macbook pro ( OS lion 10.7) to print to my Pixma MX 922.  Suddenly there are about eight choices of MX922 printer profiles available on the drop down menu!
Can anyone tell me, please, which Printer Profile I should choose from the list?  The choices include these (from a screen shot I took.)
Thanks for any advice!!

Hi Ynpgal,
The different selections displaying for your printer are related to the media types that you can select to print on from the application you are printing from for optimum print quality; they are not actually several instances of the printer.  The media types associated with the listings are as follows; please select the printer listing for the media type you are printing on:
GL: Photo Paper Plus Glossy II
PT: Photo Paper Pro Platinum
SG/LU: Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss / Photo Paper Pro Luster
MP: Matte Photo Paper
Hope this helps!

  • Printer profile default

I would like for the last used printer profile to be renabled following a shutdown in LR 2.1. Lightroom always defaults to "managed by printer" which is ok for my disub printers but not for my Epson inkjets. Have I overlooked a simple setting in prefs? I have lost a lot of time and paper and I can't seem to remember to reset it. Thanks jc

James, you can simply save print presets that contain your settings, including your print profile choice.
Jim, your feature request is probably better placed in the feature request forum rather than as a comment on an unrelated problem. :-)

  • How to turn off color management in Canon MX860 for printer profile

I just got my Spyder3Print updated with the SR software to calibrate my Canon MX860 on a Mac OS X system. I am using 3rd party paper (Kirkland) and 3rd party ink (uni-kit). There are no existing .icc profiles out there for this combo. I have been using canons "GL2/GL3" profile which does not give me, as expected, a good color match.
When the program asks to print the target it says to make sure the "color management is off".
I cannot find an "off" selection. In the "color mode" portion of the dialog box I do get to choose between "colorsync" and "canon color matching"???
I was guessing colorsync and then I have to pick a printer/paper/ink .icc profile. Not sure what to use for this first target print.
Not sure if that choice represents color managment off?

Just got the answer from Spyder:
his applies to ALL Canon printers drivers running under both Leopard and Snow Leopard and it's the correct "solution" to get them to print without color management (a critical, unavoidable requirement for building custom printer profiles with any 3rd party printer profiling solution).
Make sure you're running OSX 10.6.2 or whatever the latest is. There have also been some Canon driver updates that will show up in System Preferences:Software Update, so make sure you've got nothing left to apply as an update. Another way to make sure you have the latest Canon driver installed: go to Print & Fax, select your current Canon driver, and click on Options and Supplies... to see what version it is. (It should be 10.26.0.0 or later, and here's the Apple list of latest drivers for all printers):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
If you don't have the most recent driver, then click "-" to remove the older Canon driver from the list. Then, with the printer attached and powered on, click "+", and add back the driver for it (this should download and install the latest version for you).
Now: when you PRINT and want to turn off color management in Spyder3Print, THIS is the way to do it:
In the Color Matching pane of the driver, select ColorSync (not Vendor Matching, or Canon Color Matching!)
In the popup beneath that, you'll see "Automatic"; a list of all the Canon standard profiles; and a command to choose from other profiles. Use that last command to see a list of all profiles on your system.
Select "Generic RGB" from the list. (this is the key). Then say OK and you'll see that "Generic RGB" shows beneath the ColorSync radio button in the Color Matching pane. This is the secret to disabling color management with the Canon drivers in Snow Leopard (and it also works in Leopard, as well, although in that case, a warning gets displayed underneath "Generic RGB", which can be ignored)
Select the paper type, output quality, resolution, etc. as usual and print the target sheet. (Just leave the Color Options pane alone)
NOW you should get a properly dark (non-color-managed) target print. Measure this and build a profile.
Printing with "No Color Management" from Photoshop actually works the same way. It invisibly pushes through "Generic RGB" or an equivalent when you choose "No Color Management" in its Print dialog, This is why, in the Color Matching pane of the driver, ColorSync subsequently comes up auto-selected and also disabled; Photoshop has done the same thing I just described "under the hood" and as a result, that choice in the driver gets "locked".
When printing through the profile in Photoshop: do it the usual way. (Photoshop Manages Colors, choose the profile, Saturation intent, etc etc etc). It should work fine.
When doing a test print from inside Spyder3Print: since Spyder3Print applies the profile internally to the image data before it's sent to the driver, you should set the driver up exactly the same as when you printed the target image (as I've described above), so this would be ColorSync:Generic RGB in the Color Matching pane.

  • Elements 6 Printer Profile not showing up on Elements 10 when I go to Print

A third party created a printer profile that I successfully used on Elements 6. However that Printer Profile is not functioning with Elements 10. I would definitely like that Printer Profile to operate when I print on Elements 10. What to do to accomplish that goal? That's the overview. Here's the details: In Elements 10, I press Print. then Change Settings. Then Print Quality (Listed as default 720dpi,terrible print quality). Press Change. That takes me to Epson Stylus 3800 Properties. That box has the right Printer Profile I used in Elements 6. I press OK to get it embedded in Elements 10, but it won't embed and I'm stuck with the 720dpi default. Can someone help with this enigma? I thank you in advance for your time, expertise and willingness to help me!

  • Disappearing ICC Printer Profiles

I recently switched to Mac Pro with the OSX (5.7) operating system.  I also have gone from the PC version of Photoshop CS3 to Mac version of CS4.  I had ICC printer profiles for my Epson 4000 printer, which I believe were correctly installed into the Mac, but they have disappeared from my Photoshop printer dialog box.  I have run the Colorsync Utility and it find profiles, some of which apparently show "Tag Size is not correct"  When I run the utility to find the profiles, none of these profiles are listed.  Interestingly, the Epson 4000 profiles do show in the printer module for the Lightroom 2 application.  Any suggestions on how I can find and use the Epson 4000 printer ICC profiles?

Ramon, thank you for your comments.  The profiles which have disappeared from the Photoshop CS4 printer dialog box are the ones from Epson which purport to match the printer (Pro 4000), Epson paper, and Epson Ink relative to color.  On my PC these profiles were generally good, though not perfect.  They are not custom profiles produced for my system.  I believe they originally came as part of the driver installation.  (I have reinstalled the Pro 4000 printer driver that came with the printer, and an updated driver from the Epson website, but this has not solved the problem.)  The interesting thing is that Lightroom 2 finds the Epson profiles, so I would think that would indicate that the profiles are still somewhere in the computer.  I have explored with the Finder and have used the Colorsync utility.  The profiles are not in the usual places I would expect (subfiles dealing with profiles generally), but by using the Colorsync utility, I have found a folder which may contain the profiles, but I can't figure out how to open it (what application?).  The folder I believe is as follows: /Library/Epson/inkjetprinter/printingmodule/Pro4000_core.plugincontent/Resources/ICC Profiles.  In any event, since Lightroom 2 application can find it there, I assume the problem may be the pointers in Photoshop CS4.  In any event, it is a problem when printing to the Epson Pro 4000.  Since the printer is several years old now, it is difficult to find any of the Epson profiles still available. It is also interesting to note (and this may be relevant) that the Colorsync Utility does not find any of these profiles, except that it finds a list of problem files which may represent one of the profiles and indicates that the reason it is a problem file is that the "Tag Size is not Correct".

  • Lightroom 3 not accessing printer profiles

I'm not able to access newly installed Epson R3000 printer profiles when I go to print in Lightroom 3.  The profiles do show up when I to print in PS3. I'm operating under 10.5.8 on my imac.

You have LR set to not access Managed by Printer and can’t access from selecting “other” from the sub menu?

  • Print Setup says use Adobe Color Printer with No Color Management even though I have my .icc printer profile selected

I have a ColorMunki Photo and a Canon Pixma Pro 100 that I have been using on my Mac with Photoshop CC.  No issues.  I must have changed something because now when I go to print, a popup says "Please use Adobe Color Printer Utility if you need to print with No Color Management".  It is telling me that my I am trying to print without color management and this method of printing isn't supported.  So, I reprofiled my monitor and printer and have brand new .icc profiles and it is still doing the same thing.  Can someone tell me the exact things that need to be changed in Photoshop in order to use my .icc profile for color managed printing?  I have no idea what I have changed.  If I change to a different profile that message doesn't pop up.  My document profile says that it is the same as the printer profile I am trying to print from.  Does the document profile need to be set to my monitor .icc profile or the printer .icc profile that I want to print from?  Any help would be appreciated!  It is driving me crazy!

Please read these very recent thread, as it applies to you in full:

In Both Win XP and Vista 32 adding ICC printer profiles work fine.
In Print-Module -> Print Job Color Management -> Profile : Other you can check the Profiles which should be shown inside LR

  • Print Profiles and Packing Stations

How do I get print outputs from a Handling Unit Packing Station to de directed to the printers assigned in Print Profiles PRPHU?
The Handling Unit Packing Station is linked to the Print Profile through HUPAST_C and the Print Profile is linked to 2 outputs to 2 different printers. But it donu2019t work the way I supposed it to work - I get the message "No printer defined for output ZST1"

It may be helpful to you to know the logic which determines the printer that is used for output on the system. This is as follows :
    1. the system will first check the output device specified in output record. The setting here has most priority.
    2. system will read the setting in output type customizing double click the corresponding output type, find field "print parameter". Please see F1 help for this field.
       3. According to the setting in point 2, system will choose output device either specified in trxn VP01 or trxn SU3.
Also, please be aware that if output is entered manually, then the printer is not defaulted. Print parameters are only defaulted when the output is determined by the system automatically.
    Hope this helps.

  • Epson prints too dark from LR on color managed MacBook Pro?

    Hi all,
I have a newish MacBook Pro, calibrated with Spyder2, and printing to an Epson 2200. The prints are too dark, and don't really come close to matching the screen in LR. I've brought the images into PS2 for soft proofing, but the prints are still far too dark. It's not just out of LR, but DPP as well. I found this topic:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc44027/28
Tthat seems to describe my problem, but it seems to be Adobe-specific. Doug doesn't say if he's tried printing from other apps. I use Epson's custom profiles, which actually seem to be worse than the standard profiles that come with the driver.
A new twist seems to be that profiled jpg images with sRGB profiles exported from LR also print too dark when I had them sent out for printing, which leads me to think that my screen is not profiled correctly, or there's some weird flaw in the Mac's color management engine that skews everything.
My first question: When I profile my screen using Spyder2, I have the brightness set at maximum. Should I bring it down, and if so, how far? The Spyder2 help says use "Factory Defaults", but the MBP ships with brightness set on auto-adjust based on ambient light levels.
My second question: Are there others who have this issue? Have any of you resolved them successfully, and if so, how?
    Thanks!
    Timmy

Time for a reality/sanity check for those who complain that "the "prints are too dark from my Epson printer"!
If you will just reduce your monitor's white-point luminance to the range of 80-90 cd/m2 when you edit your images, it's almost certain that the problem will be solved (assuming you're not making some other error in color management setup). Many people conclude that their problem must be a generic failure or defect of Epson printers (i.e., compared to HP, etc)-- or that the Epson paper profiles are defective. Well, perhaps there's some element of truth to that conclusion--to the extent that Epson printers have evidently been designed with typical professional editing environments in mind (i.e., the low brightness levels to which "serious" printers adjust their monitors and ambient lighting). Why would they do that: Well, who wants to spend many hours each day looking at the glare of a 200 cd/m2 monitor screen (and the reflections from a brighly lighted room)?
So, for getting "monitor-matching" prints from printers such as the SP 2200, you simply need to work (edit) with your images in a more-or-less "dimly lit" room using a monitor that is properly adjusted for such a low-light environment--(i.e., the screen luminance not higher than 90-100 cd/m2). Of course even with such a reduced screen luminance, the light used for print-viewing must be sufficiently bright(**)
It's possible that your monitor cannot be adjusted to the necessary (low) luminance level--or that you haven't any means to measure the luminance level. Those are correctable hardware issues, although may require $$.
(**)please note that a fairly bright viewing light is needed for prints (made as suggested above) to appear to be a reasonably close "match" to the monitor image.

I tried to send it through gmail and the acct is  a POP acct
I'm not concerned about sending to the long address list. I just can't get the email and window that says "cannot send emai using the server..." to go away. The default must be "retry", because although I cannot see the choices at the bottom of the window if I hit return it trys again... and then of course comes back with the very long pop up window that I cannot see the bottom of so I can tell it to quit trying...

  • Attempted to set up an HP wireless printer and my whole network is now a mess.  HP help told me I had too many signals, as I have a Time Capsule 4 Macs and 4 Airport Express set up.  Anyone else figure this out?

I attempted to set up a new HP wireless printer.  It is unstable and HP support says I have too many devices since I have a time capsule and 4 airport express either extending my network or being used for a different printer or stereos.  Anyone else find that their Airport Express/Extreme interferes with a wireless printer. If so, what's the point?

I have a similar model, the  HP 8500A here in the home office that I originally hooked up using wireless on an AirPort system consisting of an AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule and 2 AirPort Express devices.
The HP was originally hooked up to the "main" router using wireless as a test to see how wireless would perform. No issues with setup or performance over the first few weeks. I did eventually change the device to connect using Ethernet once I had room to move the device near the AirPort Extreme.
HP is pulling your leg with the advice about too many devices. The AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule will handle up to 50 wireless devices. In my case, I did nothing except follow the setup procedure and restart the entire network....something that I always do when I make any change to the network.

Help please.  I upgraded to a new macbook and migrated everything.  However, Office will not activate because it says too many copies are active.  How do I delete the activiation for my old laptop?  Thanks.

Use the Office activation phone number and call the automated activation menu. It will ask you how many installations you have. It will then issue you a new code for your new installation. Make sure your old installation is removed.
