Too many redirects occurred & the address gets appended to automatically

I have started getting...
"Too many redirects occurred trying to open “http://www.SOMEADDRESS.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.registratio n&vmcchk=1&Itemid=100017”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page."
...type messages when I attempt to go to certain web sites. Many times in the past I have used the same links to be transferred to the same sites. I have cleared my history and emptied cache without any help.
Following, I have cleared my history and emptied cache, I Quit Safari and Opened it again. Manually typed the address I wanted to go to and my address was appended to automatically with the same address I was having problems with! I cannot go to the Home page of the web site because of this.
Can someone tell me how to resolve this, please?

Use OpenDNS to prevent redirects by your ISP.
Use OpenDNS for better speed and more security. It's free and includes anti phishing filters.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
Click +
208.67.222.222
Click +
208.67.220.220
Then click OK.

  • "too many redirects occurred..."

    Hello All!
I've used Safari extensively and for a long time, and been quite happy with it.
(for the moment on one of our older Macs; a White MacBook OS 10.5.8 with Safari 5.0.6)
Today I've been having an issue not experienced before, when trying to go to webpages I've often visited, such as my internet bank and my earthlink webmail, and any of the twitter accounts which I follow.
Instead of getting directly to the web address which I enter, there is sometimes an alert about the lack of a proper 'certificate', and the address in the browser switches immediately to a very long address which begins like this:
"http://guidetest.a.id.opendns.com/url=guidetest%2Ea%2Eid%2Eopendns%2Ecom%2F%3Fur l"  and goes on for hundreds of characters.
This address causes Safari to respond with:
    Failed to open page
    Safari can't open page
Too many redirects occurred trying to open (again the same interminable address).
Why is this happening? I've tried resetting Safari, restarting my computer. But I've not accepted or used the 'certificates' which caused the alerts.
So I'm blocked from using webmail on this computer ( but we have 6 others) until I discover what the fix is.
I'd be delighted if this is easily solved!

    Thanks Andy!
If I recall correctly, there was a number close to those you gave, but slightly different  208.67.222.220
I erased it and put in the two Google DNS which you listed,
and then (after trying too quickly to see if the changes helped) I applied/saved the changes!
It seems to work! I now could go directly to the webpages I mentioned above.
Andy, I should have clicked "this solved my problem"  but I only clicked "this helped me" because the phenomenon remained until I'd the sense to apply the changes.
There are three other numbers on the DNS list which are greyed out and I don't seem to be able to change, they appear to be related to the service and country in which I'm located.

  • TS3320 "too many redirect occurred" error message on iPad using a bookmark

I get the error message "too many redirect occurred" when using a bookmark to connect to a site. Safari is disabled in settings. This worked fine for about 5 months. Recently it stopped working. Now the site will only open going straight through Safari. (The error still appears using the book mark with Safari enabled). Cookies are enabled and are cleared off.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
    Thanks

Because its an issue with the site programming.  It can be due to some cookie or cache on your iPad, but its the actual website that tells the iPad to redirect.
Imagine if you go the store with a coupon you clipped off of a newspaper. when you get to the door, you show the coupon and the guy at the door says you need to use the other door because the coupon says so.   So you walk to the other door, and the guy at that door tells you nope, for that type of product you need to go to the original door.  So you go back and the cycle repeats.
Eventually you give up and leave, same thing happens with the iPad after so many tries going back and forth between pages or if sent to enough different pages it will just give up since it just can't access anything as it keeps being sent elsewhere.
If its due to Cookies or corrupted cache you can go into Settings->Safari and clear Cookies and history to see if that fixes it.
Otherwise its usually some type of loop being generated by untested conditions in the web page coding, and only the Website owners / programmers can fix it.
Most often its caused by a website sending you to the mobile version of the site, and the mobile version detecting an iPad sends you back to the desktop version of the site, and the cycle repeats there.

  • Safari can not open the page, too many redirect occurred, what can I do to remedy

I see a massage saying safari can not find the site because too many redierect occurred, what can I do to remedy the problem

This has recently (May 2012) become a routine stubling block in Safari.  Every hour or two, I have to quit Safari and restart it, just to fill out my timecard.  Since iCloud will not be syncing my Safari bookmarks, I will be switching to either Netscape or Google Chrome.

  • Can't get to a specific spot on a website. Am being told I have used too many redirects?, Can't get to a specific spot on a website. Am being told I have used too many redirects?

I am trying to get to a specific spot on a website. I have signed on and can get to all other sections, but when I try to get to this one section I get a message back saying Safari cannot get to that page, too many redirects? Help?

Clear. Safari, close it and reset your iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
To close an app, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the Safari app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • "Too Many Redirects" problem when linking to the iTunes App Store... weird

I've done a decent amount of searching on this issue and I haven't really found anything that addresses this problem... basically, whenever I (using my iPhone/Safari) try to click a link to the App store; I get:
    *Cannot Open Page*
+Safari cannot open the page because too many redirects occurred.+
I'm actually developing a site right now for an iPhone game; and I was using the link to Shazam as placeholder until we have our app approved. I generated the link using the iTunes App Generator - http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/WebObjects/MZStoreServices.woa/wa/itmsL inkMaker - which gave me the code I pasted at the bottom if anyone is interested.
This did not work; but I figured the issue was on my side so I started to trouble shoot things. So the first thing I did was search "Shazam" using my iPhone's Safari browser - and the 3rd result is the App Store link:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=shazam&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en- US:official&client=firefox-a
I've used both my iPhone and the iPhone simulator (part of the SDK) to test this, and I've used different ISPs just in case there was something in between. *Same error.*
So thinking Shazam might also have problems; I tried a few more well known app name searches. *Everything is having this problem, it seems.*
This is my first support discussion post so sorry if it's too rambly or if I'm asking about a well known issue - but I really looked into this one and I'm wondering if it's pandemic or rare.
    Thanks!

    Hello mollusk,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
Just to let you know, this is primarily and end user to end user forum for the iPhone.
When you're working with the SDK, you will most likely get better information and feedback via the Developer's resources:

    Good Luck with that APP.

  • Safari - Too Many redirects error

This error is quite specific to any FarmVille links within Safari. I have raised the issue with Zynga, but I have since realised that this issue has occurred since upgrading to iOS 4.3.1. and Zynga aren't currently reporting any known issues like this. Anyone else having a similar problem? If I click/touch and FarmVille links within Safari I get the following error "Cannot open page. Safari cannot open the page because too many redirects occurred."
I have yet to test on Safari on my iMac to see if the issue is specific to the iPad.

You can avoid re directs using Open DNS.
Tap Settings / Wi Fi then select DHCP.
    Where you see:  DNS
Type in these numbers exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
Restart your iPad. Open DNS is free, adds security and includes anti phishing filters.
The information at this link is for DNS for a computer but the information should help.

  • Too many redirects - Safari can't open page - Domainmonster to iWeb problem

I am trying to publish my website made with iWeb - I purchased a domain from Domainmonster.
onlineiwthme.net - and by looking around the web I think I have done the whole CNAME thing correctly.
When I go to my mobile me account summary it says - Personal Domain = www.onlinewithme.net
So I think it should be OK.
I clicked publish in iWeb and it seemed to work but when I try my domain I just get the following message: Safari can’t open the page.
Too many redirects occurred trying to open “http://www.onlinewithme.net/”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page.

OK I still could net get it sorted so I contacted Domainmonsters help desk and below is the nice clear answer to my problems.
I add it here in case anybody else has problems.
Ethiod, thank you very much for you help, regardless, much appreciated that you at least tried to help.
    Thank you for contacting Domainmonster.com.
    1. Log in to your Domainmonster.com account and choose to manage your domain by highlighting it on the right hand menu and clicking “Manage”.
    2. Choose “Website Content” then click “Web Forwarding”.
    3. Within Web Forwarding set-up non-framed web forwarding to point to www.onlinewithme.net – this will forward the root record (non www.) to the www. address – meaning that either http://onlinewithme.net or http://www.onlinewithme.net will go to the correct location.
    4. Once saved, click on the “ > onlinewithme.net Control Panel” breadcrumb at the top of the page to take you back to your control panel.
    5. Click on “Manage DNS”.
    6. Within DNS settings delete the A Record for www. (check box to the right hand side and then click “save DNS Updates”)
    a. Now add a CNAME Record with the following settings:
    i. Alias: www
    ii. Address: web.me.com
    7. You will now have pointed your www. record to your web.me.com account.
    8. You will need to ensure that your iWeb account is correctly set-up to expect your domain. You can do this by specifying a Personal Domain (www.onlinewithme.net). Apple have provided a tutorial here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1107

  • Too many redirections

I just upgraded to OS 10.4.2 with Safari 2 (update 2.01). When I try to connect to several professional sites that require passwords, I get the message : "Safari can not open the page. Too many redirections occured..."
These sites are OK with Safari 1 and with IE and Netscape.
    Any solution?

Same problem occurs with my computer and it is very frequent. Especially when using eBay. With eBay's favorites email comes and you click on search all this always occurs. Safari can not open the page. "Too many re directions occured..."
