Too many windows!
Help! Every time I switch from the arrange window to the mixer or sample editor, it seems like a new window is created. I've been working for some time on a project and I probably end up creating dozens of new windows every time. Then when I reopen the project it has to boot of a zillion different windows.
You should probably look into screen sets and get into a smoother organizational pattern.
Just press a qwerty number to start a new screen set and go from there.

When you shut down your machine, you get a dialog box that asks you to confirm the shutdown. There is a little check box there that, by default, will re-open all of the applications that were open when you shutdown. You can uncheck that to prevent those applications from reopening.
I'm guessing that you do not have a bunch of applications set up to automatically start under your user settings. If doing the above doesn't work, let us know and we'll go through checking for any start programs set to start when you login. -

OK...I found a way to get my fonts down to 230. I did a

I have made buttons many times before and no problems. I am
making a new site and have some navigation buttons in it and am
using the following script i've always used.

I have only one button coded for each thing, and cannot find
the coded dupilcated anywhere in my flash file. However whenever i
view it in the browser window and click the link buttons a new
strange thing happens. Instead of opening the page link once in a
new window, it opens it twice so i wind up with two windows opening
instead of one, and i only clicked the link once. I never had this
happen before and just can't see why its suddenly opening two
windows, my other fla files aren't doing this, just this one so i
know its a problem in this file, but where, how? Or was their a
recent update somewhere that is messing with me?ok, i went through and made sure all my buttons have
instances named so now my portfolio buttons all open two blank
windows when clicked regaurdless of browser. How do i get them to
open one window instead of two?
i have a main timeline and in the content area i have a movie
clip containing all my main text and stuff. in each different scene
there is another movie containing each scenes text and
transistions. Do i need to move the buttons up a movie is this
causing the problem? i'm pretty sure i've done past stuff like this
before and never had a problem with two windows opening on a click.
Anybody know if theres a way to code the buttons to force only one
window to open instead of two? or do i need to change were my
button links are located to fix this? -

Safari 5.1 is soooo slow! Mission Control shows a huge number of windows, even though I have tried every setting to eliminate old windows when restarting Safafi.
Are all the windows showing in Mission Control really open?
Are they slowing down Safari?
How do I totally stop old windows from reopening when I open Safari?

After upgrading to OS Lion, when I open Safari it doesn't always take me to the default Apple site -- sometimes it opens multiple windows to sites I recently visited; sometimes it goes right to the Apple site -- I never know what I'm going to get. Also seems much slower loading pages.
Here's what I've done [from "For the truly paranoid...digital shredder -- security (Apple)"]:

NOTE: The workflow is throw away what is in a folder without throwing away the folder except when deleting QuickTime files which case you'll throw away the selected folders as stated below.
Home>Library>Caches>com.apple.Safari>Cache.db (throw away the Cache.db file)
Home>Library>Caches>com.apple.Safari>Webpage Previews>get rid of all the files in this folder, they are .gifs, jpegs., png, etc (they are image files to what you have been looking at on the internet
Home>Library>Caches>QuickTime>Downloads>Throw away any folder here like 00, 01, 02, 03, etc. These folders contain any thumbnail of link to movies you have been watching on the internet.
Home>Library>Cache>Metadata>Safari>Bookmarks> throw away everything in this folder. It contains navigational information to the sites you have visited.
Home>Library>Cache>Metadata>Safari>History> throw away all the files in this folder it contains the history of your internet surfing habits.
Now throw away these files:
History.plist
HistoryIndex.sk
LastSession.plist
TopSites.plist
WebpageIcons.db
they are all located here:
Home>Library>Safari> History.plist, HistoryIndex.sk, LastSession.plist, TopSites.plist, WebpageIcons.db
Lastly, remove what is in the LocalStorage folder located here:
Home>Library>Safari>LocalStorage>link.localstorage
Now in the Finder use, "Secure Empty Trash..." to not only empty the trash but securely write over it.
For example, as stated above, this: "Home>Library>Caches>com.apple.Safari>Cache.db " means:
1. Select your Home folder in a Finder window, it’s located in the Sidebar and looks like a house.
2. Now select the Library folder
3. Next, in your Library folder select the “Cache” folder
4. Next, while in your Cache folder select the com.apple.Safari folder
5. Select the Cache.db file and throw it away
What will happen is next time you surf the internet Safari & QuickTime will create new set of folders & files.
Side notes
- Use “Private Browsing” if you use Safari to surf the internet
- Use a Proxy Browser to surf the internet
- Throw away the above files immediately after surfing the internet & use “Secure Empty Trash…” and also use Disk Utility, "7-Pass Erase" as stated above.
- Never save and load a file to a grow site with "metadata." Software like Photoshop, iPhoto, Aperture and many others can read it and it might contain information about you.
- Never use GPS (Global Positioning System) to photograph your grow, it travels as metadata with your photographs
- Never use "Location Services" on cell phone which pinpoint your location with great accuracy.
- EXIF (Exchangeable image file format) data can never be modified. EXIF data is recorded every time you click to take a photograph - it records many things like time of day, lens used, camera type...
- If you use a computer other than yours to surf the internet you most definitely will want to throw away the above files and "Secure Empty Trash..."
This may seem like a lot of stuff to do but after doing it a few time you'll have it committed to memory

Too many windows and not enough tabs.
Hi, this is my first post. I'm using Safari 4 Beta on a 13" Macbook with the latest OS. In spite of the fact that I have preferences set to 'Open links in a new tab' checked, Safari insists on opening them up in a new window. I don't always notice that it does this until I decide to close a window down then realize that there are anything up to 20 Safari windows open! Grrrrr.
Does anyone know how I can get Safari to abide by my wishes and open all clicked links in new tabs ?Hi,
'Open links in a new tab' only applies to external applications. E.g. links clicked on from with Mail.ap, or AddressBook etc.
To force single window mode, you need to enable a hidden preference via the Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal). Firstly, completely quit Safari (Safari menu > Quit) and then copy and paste this command into a Terminal window and press return:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true
Restart Safari and now links that would open a new window should appear in a new tab.
To undo the command at a later date, replace the 'true' with 'false' and re-run the command. -
Too many AD security groups for ACS 4.1
We have an issue that when a user is a member of too many Windows AD (2003) security groups (roughly 65) they won't get authenticated by our ACS 4.1.
The 1st thing we investigated was the Windows Kerberos authentication issue. Which basically says that if a user is a member of more than 70 security groups then Kerberos authentication might fail. However we've used the tokensz.exe tool to calculate that the affected users Kerberos Token size isn't above the problem 12,000 bytes. On the ACS, when a user is a member of too many security groups, the error message is "External user not found". When the user is brought down to the "magic" number of security groups authentication works no problem.
At the same time on the DC errors can be found in the CSWinAgent.log file.

ACS Remote Agent fails users with too many goups
Symptom:
Windows External Database authentication fails on the ACS 4.0 SE if a user is a member of
too many Windows groups.
Conditions:
This is specific to the ACS SE running 4.0.1(42) or earlier using Windows Domain Authentication
to the ACS Remote Agent.
Workaround:
Reduce the number of group memberships the user is part of or reduce the lenght of
the group names the user is a part of.
Further Problem Description:
If a user ia a part of enough windows groups that the number of characters total of all the groups
exceed 1024 bytes the authentication of that user will fail. All other users should still authenticate
without any trouble
Please upgrade ACS to 4.1.4 and that should fix it.
First you need to upgrade it to 4.1.1 and then 4.1.4

This happens when FireFox is not responding, and I want to close firefox with ctrl-alt-delete. Too many tabs can make Firefox crash. That is why I want to use ctrl-alt-delete to close FireFox. I tried finding a way to disable this, but I found no option to.
Ending the Firefox program or process with the Windows Task Manager "looks like" a crash. The proper way to exit Firefox is click Firefox button > Exit (or File > Exit, if using the Menu Bar).

I have somehow done away with the window to read the email without clicking and opening - I cannot figure out where to go to put it back! I do not want to click to open and read ea. email - there is too many - I want the mail boxes and the preview pane - just missing that additional window to the right - please help if you know how to get it back.
Or double click on the bar to the far right and it will reset.

I tried to send a mail message to too many addees. when the rejection came back "cannot send message using the server..." the window is too long to be able to see the choices at the bottom of it. how can I see the choices at the bottom of that window?
I tried to send it through gmail and the acct is a POP acct
I'm not concerned about sending to the long address list. I just can't get the email and window that says "cannot send emai using the server..." to go away. The default must be "retry", because although I cannot see the choices at the bottom of the window if I hit return it trys again... and then of course comes back with the very long pop up window that I cannot see the bottom of so I can tell it to quit trying... -
After Loading Lion I now get 5 windows w/ a graphic of a Red Stop sign with an ! mark and the following text message:
"DAVE Networking
Dave kernel extensions could not be loaded! Error
71 - Too many levels of remote in path."
I have uninstalled DAVE and used Clean App to remove trace elements of program, however I still get the message and am unable to eliminate the error messages. When I click OK the message goes away briefly and then comes back up.
Any solutions would be great.Dave,
Thanks....What I did was load the free eval version of Dave 9.0 and then used the uninstaller which must have deleted the kernel giving me the problem.

Firefox crashes when too many (3) tabs/windows open
Firefox crashes if too many tabs (3) are opened, if 2 browser windows are open, in Yahoo mail (deleting npYState.dll did not fix it) and does not give me a crash report. Internet explorer is not having problems like this.

Firefox 4 opens TOO many empty windows on starting the browser!
Every time I open up Firefox 4 a BUNCH of empty windows load up with my LAST 'remembered' tabs. SO I have ONE window with all my tabs intact.. and then like 13 EMPTY windows and this happens EVERY time I start up firefox. I have tried everything from using the about:config and changing that one browser tab setting to 'true'... I took out the mimeTypes.rdf from the Application Basics section I even tried UNINSTALLING and REINSTALLING firefox.. I'm SO tired of all these empty windows does ANYONE know what could cause this? I also ran a 'malware' check and I have NONE. I have honestly done EVERYTHING to try to fix this... just wondering if anyone ELSE is experiencing this and if anyone else has ANY other advice! I'm about ready to switch to Google Chrome.. I don't want to! So ANY help/advice would be appreciated! Thank you!!
