Question, I am using entourage for my mail, calendar etc.
I am getting so much junk mail it is crazy, is there a program that is can be used to filter it out or is there a way I can set up a filter thru entourage

About The Lion10.7.5 mail server send too many junk mail
Hello.My mail server is lion 10.7.5. and on the last Friday. The server have many junk mail on the server queue. when I deleted them.will have more than junk mail come back.The sender and the recipient all other server address.my server isn't open relay server.may be some hacker do it.Could you some one help me.thanks

Recently my Mail has started showing me a lot of extra information in the emails that I receive. Instead of just showing me who it's from and when it was sent and basic details, it is showing "X-sieve", "Return-Path", "Received" about 5 times, X-Scanned-By, and all kinds of other stuff. How can I get rid of this? Thanks!
Good point! It never occurred to me that the preference could be set inadvertently.
I assumed that repeatedly executing the key sequence ⇧⌘H while a given message was selected was the cause for this, probably when a user intended instead to hide Mail. -
I have a lot of applications on Facebook that I want to delete. Friends keep sending cute litttle things., like flowers, hugs,, smiles ......you know...those hugs. com apps. and so on and so forth! When you send them back,you open them allowing them to get your info, then they uh..have you. So...now I would like to eradicate these from cluttering up my computer. A friend of mine said she got a virus from one of those sites.

With the Mail program running, select Preferences from the Mail menu and then select the Junk Mail tab. Turn it on. This is a decent junk mail filter and fills the needs of many people. If you find too much junk mail still making its way into your in basket, there's a third party program called SpamSieve that takes filtering to another level.

Spam fighting Idea for Email Users-Beyond Junk Mail
I get so much junk mail I was hoping there was a way to automatically bounce back anything that got classified as junk. Then the important person who sent the email could use the old telephone for contact if they found they weren't getting their communication through. There would be an added bonus of all the emails that were junk would look the same (Mail Delivery System) and faster to delete.
Does anyone else think this is a good idea or is it just stupid.Do you use this email address for public purposes, such as for online purchases, or for website access if an email address is required for access, or provide it for anything and everything when an email address is requested or required?
Do you automatically render all HTML received? If so, and a spammer includes embedded images or objects with HTML formatting that must be rendered from a remote server to be viewed, you are notifying the spammer that your email address is valid or "known good" causing even more spam to be received. When the Mail.app's Junk Mail filter correctly marks a message as junk when received, and the spammer includes embedded images or objects that must be rendered from a remote server to be viewed, these will not be rendered when such a message is marked as junk as a security measure. But this does not apply if such a junk message is not marked as junk when received, which is why automatically rendering all HTML when received is not a good idea.
Have you ever selected a link included with a spam message - any link, and especially a remove your address from the circulation list link? If so, you have done nothing but notify the spammer that your email address is valid or "known good" causing even more spam to be received.
Spammers sell/trade their "known good" email address lists to each other, causing even more spam.
If you have done any or all of these things, you have inadvertently and unknowingly added to the amount of spam you are receiving.
Once an email address is so badly compromised, it is impossible to get the cat back in the bag.
The best thing to do is to have a personal email address that is used to exchange email with family and friends only. Do not use this email address for online purchases, or for any other public consumption. Get a free Hotmail account that is accessed via webmail only using a browser to be used for online purchases and for public consumption.
A Gmail account is free, can be accessed as an IMAP or POP account with an email client on your computer, has webmail access, has an authenticated SMTP server so you can send messages with the account regardless the ISP being used for your internet connection, and Gmail has a good spam filter at their incoming mail server.
You don't want to reply to, bounce back, select any links, or render any HTML for spam for a number of reasons. -
Eliminating Junk Mail on Iphone using an IMAP mail server

Doesn't sound like there is a fix for this, but its always worth asking...,
I currently have my own IMAP email server with my company on an XServe. When I receive mail on my Iphone it bypasses all my post-server junk mail rules on my powerbook Apple Mail app, and loads up my inbox. I don't keep my powerbook on all the time to filter it before I open it on my Iphone, although I do use Apple Mail as my mail client.
Is there any way to echo the junk mail rules from my Laptop to my Iphone. The volume of junk I receive after makes the Iphone's mail app cumbersome. I also need to filter out web order confirmations for my business, which normally go right to a selected folder using a mail rule.

Yes, by leaving the Mail.app on your PowerBook launched and running actively accessing your account for new messages where a junk mail filter and any rules are available. With an IMAP account, all server stored mailboxes are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account. In order for your account accessed with the iPhone's Mail client to have access to the junk mail filter and the rules with the Mail.app on your PowerBook by proxy, you need to leave the Mail.app on your PowerBook launched and running actively accessing the account for new messages while the Mail client on your iPhone is doing the same.
If you receive that much junk mail with this account, more than likely you have inadvertently added to the problem. Do you have display remote images in HTML messages selected with the Mail.app on your Mac? If so, when a junk message that is not marked as junk when received includes images that must be rendered from a remote server to be viewed and any images are rendered, this confirms to the spammer that your email address is "known good" causing even more spam to be received. Selecting any links included with a junk message will do the same. Selecting a "remove me" link to remove your email address from the spammer's circulation list also does the same.
Providing your email address publicly for any reason - when making an online purchase, for website access is required, provided when filling out customer information, etc., etc., can cause more spam to be received.
My primary personal email address is used to exchange email with family and friends only. I never provide this email address publicly for any reason.
I use a free account with webmail access only for an online purchase and/or to be provided publicly. -

My solution is to run a headless Debian (my server runs Debian) VM in VirtualBox and access it via SSH. Performance is no problem (C2D 1.6 GHz without VT-x, 1GB RAM, CPU usage for the VM is at ~1%), although database operations are slower compared to the server. Beware of RAM usage with many VMs, though.
Portability was no problem for me since I run the same operating system on the server and inside the vm - basically it's just copying files and merging configuration files. It was actually more of a problem when I used Arch for development. Moving the VM to another computer is even easier, you just need VirtualBox and no special configuration.
I recommend you to give it a try - maybe it's what you need and you saved yourself a lot of work.

yeah I've been messing with virtualbox myself, and like you, had a pretty good experience.
However, i can't see myself running a dedicated VM for each server, and shoving everything into a VM felt like I was hiding my mess in the closet
I'm seeing this setup as a way to start getting, and above all, staying, organized.
This wiil be my fallback solution though, if the container-type thing doesn't work out, or ends up being too much overhead. -
I've recently been having an issue with junk mail filtering in Mac OS X Mtn Lion.
Along with normal junk mail, messages from addresses in my Address Book and Previous Recipients are being filtered as junk. I've checked the appropriate boxes in Preferences to prevent this, but it seems to have no effect.
Even worse, it's filtering as junk email I sent to myself from my work email to my home email (both are in Address Book).
Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on how to resolve it?Do you have any rules defined that are marking messages as junk? Check all rules very carefully, and consider termporarily disabling all of them just to see if that makes any difference.
BTW, note that this is the Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) forum... you'll get better answers posting in the Lion (10.7) forum, since you're running Lion. I've asked the hosts to move this topic over there. -

This isn't a chat site; it's populated by users just like yourself, so you have to be patient. Even if no one responds, after a couple of days an Apple representative will likely see the lack of a response and post something helpful.

If you're getting too much spam sometimes you simply have to abandon that email address and create another. Keep your email addresses limited to those you trust, and never post them on a publicly searchable website (such as this one).
What email client program are you using? Mail.app? If so use iCloud mail.
iCloud mail spam filtering is very good. I have received three or four spam emails in total, in all the time I've been using iCloud mail. Even if you never divulge your email address to anyone, spammers will simply send to hundreds of millions of randomly generated addresses. For those that get through, set up Mail's junk mail filter. -
IMAP Mac Mail on Multiple Computers - Asking too much?
I'm trying to set up Mac Mail for someone who uses a different Mac at the office than they do at home. Yes, they could use webmail via a web browser, but can't Mac Mail be set up for this?
I tried to set them up using Mac Mail in IMAP mode so that all of their mail (inbox, sent, drafts, trash, etc.) are stored on the server but it's simply not working. Deleted mail just disappears. Trying to save a draft gives me an error message. Copies of sent messages are not being saved locally or on the server. Synchronizing the mailbox doesn't seem to work. Am I asking too much or am I just doing something wrong?
(They are not using a .Mac account, but their provider supports IMAP protocol.)You’re welcome. Here’s an explanation of how mailboxes are supposed to appear in Mail that I’ve posted in other cases and that you may find useful as well. Let me know if there is still something you cannot figure out after reading it:
1. Instead of grouping mailboxes by account, Mail groups mailboxes by purpose first, regardless of whether they are stored locally or on the server, then groups by account the mailboxes that don’t serve a specific purpose in Mail. If you have more than one mail account, each has its own Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes, which appear under the respective group showing the account name instead of the real name of the associated mailbox in the filesystem.
This has the advantage of letting you choose at any time, and independently for each mailbox, whether you want to look at your Inbox, Sent, Trash, etc. mailboxes as if you had just one of them shared by all accounts (i.e. an aggregate), or look at each of the corresponding individual mailboxes separately.
2. Each mailbox under a pre-defined group is associated with a mailbox in the filesystem whose name may or may not be exactly the same as the name of the corresponding mailbox group. By default, the name of the actual mailboxes in the filesystem associated with Sent and Trash, for example, would be Sent Messages and Deleted Messages, respectively.
3. The association between a mailbox in a pre-defined group and the actual mailbox in the filesystem is fixed for POP accounts, but can be changed for IMAP accounts by means of Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For or the corresponding Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Store messages on the server setting.
4. Mail may defer the creation of a pre-defined mailbox until actually needed to store messages there. Also, in some circumstances Mail may be unable to create or locate the actual mailbox in the filesystem (see #10 below for an example), but the association does still exist in those cases from a logical point of view, even though Mail may be unable to display or store messages there.
5. Each and every mailbox appears once and only once in the mailbox list, be it (1) under one of the pre-defined groups with an icon that conveys its purpose and the name of the account it belongs to (if you have more than one mail account), or (2) with a generic folder icon and the real name of the associated mailbox in the filesystem if it serves no specific purpose as far as Mail goes. Under no circumstances can the same mailbox appear both ways; it’s either one or the other, depending solely on whether it serves a specific purpose in Mail or it’s treated by Mail as a generic mailbox like any other.
6. By itself, the name of the mailbox is no indication of whether it serves a purpose in Mail. If it appears in Mail with a generic folder icon, then as far as Mail goes it’s a generic mailbox like any other, no matter what its name.
7. For IMAP accounts, a mailbox with a generic folder icon can “disappear” and become associated with one of the pre-defined groups as a result of changing the corresponding Store messages on the server setting in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors or doing Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For on it (server-stored mailboxes only). This, in turn, would cause the mailbox being previously used for that purpose to become dissociated from the corresponding group and “appear” as a mailbox with a generic folder icon.
8. In addition to the account-specific mailboxes that appear with the account name under each of the pre-defined groups, Trash and Junk may also have an “On My Mac” mailbox. This is where messages deleted or marked as junk are moved if they were previously stored in a custom “On My Mac” mailbox or in a locally stored mailbox associated with an IMAP account (i.e. a mailbox for which Store messages on the server has been turned OFF in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors).
9. Generic mailboxes that don’t serve a specific purpose as far as Mail goes (i.e. mailboxes that appear in Mail with a generic folder icon), appear below the pre-defined groups. In principle, “On My Mac” mailboxes (i.e. locally stored custom mailboxes) would appear as top-level folders, whereas server-stored mailboxes would appear grouped under a globe icon for each IMAP or .Mac account. However, if there is no need to differentiate between “On My Mac” and server-stored mailboxes (e.g. because you only have one IMAP account and no custom “On My Mac” mailboxes), Mail will display the server-stored mailboxes as top-level folders instead, just as if they were “On My Mac” mailboxes.
10. Some IMAP accounts use a NAMESPACE feature that Mail doesn’t handle properly and that causes server-stored mailboxes to appear as subfolders of the account’s Inbox, even though they really aren’t — see “Can't create folders, only subfolders of INBOX” in the Courier FAQ, for example. Those IMAP accounts require INBOX to be typed in Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > IMAP Path Prefix for Mail to handle them properly. -
IPad Air too much time to open a link from Mail
SInce the last update to iOS 8.02 my iPad Air takes too much time to open a web link from the Mail App, Safari open itself with a long delay.
furthermore The attachments into email are often not readable, have to reload the message to be able to open the attachment.
LAst but not least, I have too many messages not downloaded from the iMap server and I can read just the title of it.There's a large thread around about this Dolphin problem.

My late 2009 iMac is running slow, particularly on Mail, more so since I upgraded to Yosemite. I have run an Etrecheck but it doesn't mean too much to me. If anyone can point me to what I need to do I'll be very grateful.

I've now installed the ad blocker, thrown away the unwanted files, and thrown away a copy of Firefox that Adware said had a problematic extension.
Things are better, but still slow.
Activity Monitor shows that with just Mail, Chrome and Excel running, 2.9GB of my 4GB RAM is used. Opening InDesign (always slow) increase that to 3.2GB. But the graph stays green.
Console shows several potential problems but I don't know if any are significant. In any case I will call my Mac store tomorrow to ask their advice about RAM.
