Too much music, too little ipod

Hi,
I have about 140 gig of music on my imac. I have a big ipod classic and have no problems. My husband has an 8g ipod touch. Is there any other way to pick and save music for this little bugger other than going through the entire library and checking each song? This can take days with this much music.
Thanks!

It's easier to use playlists and select to sync only selected playlists to your husband's iPod (in the Music tab). You can use playlists you already have, or make a new playlist just for him. You can drag whole albums or individual songs to his playlists. You can easily change his playlists by adding or deleting songs at will without affecting your library. This avoids problems with unchecked songs not playing in iTunes or on your iPod Classic.

  • Too much music?

    Hi.
I've been trying to import all the music I have stored on my computer to iTunes, but somehow iTunes select only a part of it. Sometimes an error shows too, saying iTunes failed importing/copying :C-disc or something. Could it be that I have too much music for iTunes to handle? I've got all my music in the My Music-folder, and it's grown to about 12GB... A lot, but should that really be a problem?
I've tried importing files not choosing the 'import folder' but the other option, and I've read in this forum that in the old versions you could import several files in one go that way. I can only import one at a time. iTunes seems screwed up...
I could really need some help with this, because as it is now, my iPod is empty...

12 gigs is not too much for iTunes.
By any chance, if you look in Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General, do you have "Copy files to iTunes Music Folder..." checked? If so, uncheck it and try again. (If you are short of free hard drive space, that option will have trouble operating.)

  • How much is too much music on itunes?

im uploading a lot of music onto my itunes, for two different ipods, and i dont know if i put too much music on if there will be a lag or anything
can someone please tell me how much music a computer can take before significantly slowing down?

As long as there's at least 1GB of space free on the hard disk at all times and the iTunes library isn't stored on the Finder's desktop, you shouldn't experience a major slowdown regardless of how big the iTunes library gets.

  • How to sync when you have too much music

I have too much music on my computer to sync onto my IPAD.  How do I make lists only and where do I change the settings?

You can create playlists on your computer's iTunes via File > New Playlist or File > New Smart Playlist . Smart playlists can be updated automatically by iTunes e.g. you can create smart playlists that contain a particular music genre and they will be updated automatically if you add music of that genre to iTunes, or you might have a smart playlist of 5* rated tracks etc
When you the sync music to the iPad, then on the device's Music tab you can select which playlist(s) to sync to the iPad

this also happen with my iPhone 4.. I've used the same laptop for both and same iTunes account x

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
    Does iTunes see the iPod?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?

  • Too little Memory

Hello, in trying to install Tiger in my G4, it got stuck and wouldn't move past
the 'install' sequence. I then tried to do a Disk Warrier, which installation was held up by "too little memory". Since I don't have much on this computer, and only recently installed 10.2.8 + Classic, it seemed odd. Also it has used 3.5 GB out of 19.1 GB. (Memory 128) Then I discovered on the startup disk, that I have
5 different 'Classic' applications! I think I should get rid of 4 of them, which are labled 'previous System Folder', 'previous SF 1', etc. Should I do that, and how can I trash the unnecessary installations?
Is this why it doesn't have enough memory?
Thanks very much for you help,
    Janet

    Hi, Janet -
    FifthWheel is correct.
The term "memory" is not used in messages to refer to space available on the hard drive. "Memory" means RAM, and, by extension, Virtual Memory in its various forms. Getting rid of software on the hard drive will not change the memory situation at all.
The message you cite indicates a lack of RAM in the machine - and, if you in fact do have only 128MB of physical RAM ("physical" means the total amount in the form of RAM modules), Tiger can not install. Earlier versions of OSX could limp with 128MB of physical RAM, but Tiger requires a minimum of 256MB of physical RAM.
If you want to make effective use of Tiger, and also need to be able to use Classic occasionally, I would suggest upping the installed RAM to at least 512MB.
More RAM is better. Depending upon which model G4 you have, it can hold at least 1.0GB (1024MB) of RAM; some models can hold 1.5GB (1536MB) of RAM, and others as much as 2.0GB (2048MB) of RAM.
Discarding old Previous System Folders (Classic installs) is not a bad idea, but it is not critical for the installation of Tiger. You have used but 3.5GB of a drive sized at 19GB, which leaves 15.5GB available. The allowance for Tiger is about 8GB (3GB for the actual install, plus 5GB left unused for OSX to use as swap space, etc.), so you have plenty of space on the drive.

  • I had to reinstall iTunes and lost the library, so I used what I had on my hard drive, but I have much more music on my iPod classic than is in the iTunes library. If I synch now will it delete all that extra music from my iPod?

I recently had to reinstall iTunes on my PC (Windows 7) and lost most of the library. I restored with what I had on my hard drive on the PC, but there is much more music on my iPod classic than is in the iTunes current library. I'm worried that if I synch now it will delete the extra music from my iPod, some of which I don't have available to re-rip etc.. Will this happen, or is it safe to synch more content without losing from the iPod what is already there but not in my iTunes library on the PC?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you now using a different username from the one you used prior to migrating? If so that is the reason for the problem. You might, then, give this a try:
    To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder.  At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN.  You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

Thank you now how do I get the songs on to the flash drive?
Insert the flash drive into the other computer, and open it so it looks like a window.  Highlight the songs you want in his iTunes, and drag them into that window.
That will cause them to copy onto the flash drive, and will not affect his library.
If you normally run iTunes in full-screen mode, make it smaller so that you can do the drag.
Then insert the flash drive into your computer.  Find your Automatically Add to iTunes folder (it is inside the iTunes media folder) and drag the songs into it.
