Canon support suggested it might be because I had the "Auto Lighting Optimizer" feature set to "Strong".  I didn't even realize that setting existed, but I change it to "none".  Unfortunately, I haven't had a blue sky to photograph since I made the change, so I can't tell yet if it helped.   Is that what you mean by High Tone Priority, or is that a different setting?
Hi,
Auto Lighting Optimizer and Highlight Tone Priority are useful functions, but it's very likely to get noiser images (in dark areas) if you enable any of them. Especially if you had ALO set to "strong".
Shoot the same scene with and without any of those functions enabled and you'll see the difference.
When they're well used they can give you great result, but you have to be careful to avoid excesive noise increase in dark areas.

  • Is your superdrive making too much noise?

i'm just a bit concern when i play dvd on my new powerbook, it is making too much noise. sometimes it fails to play the dvd because of scratches(which i can't see it at all). my computer would stuck at the same image for about 3 minutes or more and i have to force the computer to shut down by holding the startup button. there are times when it would not eject the dvd out as well. any opinions? just quite frustrated. thanks

I am suffering from part of the problems you mentioned.
The SD itself is not noisy when DVD are playing.
But after pausing the movie, then it fails to resume with really strange noises (as if the head was "bumping" on the disk). Then I cannot eject the disk (the drive will apparently loop on noisy attemps to resume), and I have to reboot the PB.
I am also suffering for very frequent "disk rejection" (disk ejected after load without it appearing on the Finder), not only with DVDs, but also with regular Audio CDs (including clean unscratched ones)

  • Makes too much noise as soon as I switch it on and never stops and takes a long time to shut down

Makes too much irritating background noise that makes it impossible to record the audio for my videos

    Hi,
May I know thw error code displayed in the problematic wan miniport drivers? Code 720 as in the link you post above or other error code?
This link can be helpful for further troubleshooting (please create a restore point before making changs to the system in case any incorrect operations can cause unexpected issue)

  • Photos with noise reduction filters applied shows too much noise in preview mode

The Noise Reduction filters do an impressive job in Lightroom, but the preview of photos when zoomed out is sometimes poor.
This becomes especially visible on photos with a high amount of noise reduction applied.
When zooming in to 1:1 I see that the noise reduction works as it should. Also when exporting the images the noise is removed as it should.
I wish the non-zoomed preview inside Lightroom was able to show the image with the noise reduction applied more correctly than in version 3.4.
    I'm using Lightroom 3.4 64-bit in Windows 7.
See samples of image with heavy noise reduction applied in 1:1 screen shot, and then a unzoomed screen shot of the same part of the image. As you can see the unzoomed preview contains much more noise than the zoomed image does.

I've had to encode with no noise reduction which is a shame, but have to get this DVD done.
Any ideas for the next one?
    Thanks

  • Getting way too much noise ???

Hi! I'm working on a track with a few synth layers from my korg and other audio etc.. it sounds perfect in logic but like sh*t as mp3.. i tried turning normalize on and it just made it really quiet so i went to amplify it in audacity and it brought the noise back in.. without normalize its good volume but with noise and i also put adaptive limiters on a bunch of the tracks which didn't do much.. id REALLY appreciate if someone could suggest some solutions! either with getting rid of the noise for when i bounce it, or a good way to raise the volume of the track when i bounce it with normalization on, mostly since i can turn up the volume on my computer and theres no noise but amplyifing it in audacity produces noise.. probably cause it messes with the frequencies or whatever i dont know haha but ok yeah thank you for reading! please help!!

    1. You can post images (PNG or JPEG) directly to your thread here.  Many people cannot or will not follow external links to look at images.  Use the Insert/edit image button in the toolbar at the top of the edit window.
    2. There are on-line tutorials which will help you get started with LabVIEW.
    3. What part of those signals is noise and what is real force? Turbulence, vibrations in the device, and other things could make all of this real.  How are these signals measured?  Do you have any kind of signal which can be used to synchronize with the motion of the wing?

  • Weak signal, too much noise.

47% signal strength, 18% noise. I've searched the communities, internet with no luck. (Please don't point me to Apple articles as I've probably read them all relative to my problem. Please?) I have 2 express stations. The station connected to my modem via ethernet is up high, i.e., no interference. It's less than 15 feet from where I'm sitting as I type this. The second express is the extender. My network is on its own channel. WPA2 secured. n/b/g compatible (I've got an iPhone). I've even tried moving things around, physically, to see if that would help. It hasn't. The firmware is up to date. Are there any settings I might be missing that could help? Thanks for taking the time to try and help.

  • My fan makes a bit too much noise! Whats wrong?

    Hello,
For a couple of months my computer has been making quite a bit of noise. I think that there is something wrong with the fan, but I'm not quite sure what to do. When I go on skype and talk with my friends, they say that they can even hear my computer's fan! Even through the telephone. If I try to load something, something that's Java, then it will only load if the fan is making a lot of noise. If my computer is silent then it won't load the program. Should I replace the fan in my mac or what should I do?
    --Sofie
    iMac G5 PowerPC   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Sofie,
It sounds like you have bigger problems than the noise of your fan, as you mentioned in your post,
"If I try to load something, something that's Java, then it will only load if the fan is making a lot of noise. If my computer is silent then it won't load the program."
You mac should load java regardless of the state of the fan, I think you may have other issues with your mac as the status of your fan making a lot of noise or not should in no way affect your ability to run applications on your Mac. Have you tried running the Hardware test on the CD/DVD that came with your iMac ? that may help track down a possible problem. Failing that trying doing a new install of your mac (remember to back up all your files first). I know that sounds a bit drastic but its worth a try.

  • C560 - Too much heat at monitor after Win 10 upgrade

Hi Friends, Before upgrading to win 10, I made clean format to win 8.1 and updated it full.  After upgrading to win 10, right side of the monitor (up to down) there is too much heat and is untouchable cause of heat.  Also, the hardisc and display card is making too much noise after upgrade to win 10. Is it normal? And what can I do?

    Hi ebordon,
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
I am sorry to hear your issue but let's try to isolate this. Hopefully will be able to boot your unit to Windows. Since this is a U.S. model, these steps are applicable to your unit.
Remove all peripherals -> look for a battery off button or pinhole on the bottom of the laptop -> push the button for 5 seconds.
    Reset BIOS.
    Safe Mode.
If you're planning to roll back to the previous operating system, please visit this page: How to go back to a previous version of Windows after Windows 10 has been installed.
For other concern and for further assistance, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.
    Hope these help.

  • Too much background noise!

i am making a video of a party for someone and i would go around asking people to say a message to the camera for the "birthday boy". Some people are old and did not speak very well so i have hope for their clips, but in general there is just too much background noise. i know nothing about audio filters so if someone can enlighten me as to which one(s) i should use i would be oh so grateful
    -Josh

As also said in [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1181625&tstart=200]whe n it comes to sound you really need to get it right on set. I'm not being pessimistic, trying to remove BG noise will inevitably affect the entire audio, speakers voice will change, sound weird and applying  filters could just make things worst!
However do have a go with an EQ filter to see by yourself. It is a non destructive action!
Also one thing you can do is make sure the volume doesn't exceed -6 db.

  • OS Lion Slow, is it too much for my MBP?

    hi everyone-
I have a 2007 model MBP, 2.33 GHz Intel core 2 duo. I upgraded everything I could within the last year with a 500 gb internal hard drive and 4GB 667 MHz memory installed. Out of that 500GB hard drive, almost 290GB are available.
I upgraded to Lion and everything seemed to run well at first and was impressed with the speed. However recently everything has slowed down. I searched the forums and found tips on disk repair and repairing permissions, which ended up making the OS unable to boot at the startup screen. Thank god for time machine. Long story short, I pulled out my old Snow Leopard disk and reinstalled (yes I also tried the lion recovery, which didn't help), and then went and reinstalled lion from the app store. 1 weekend later and now Monday, I'm back to having everything running. However today I am noticing that the apps are lagging once again, and I'm constantly getting the beach ball and little gestures are taking forever to load.  Could Lion be too much for my MBP, which up until recently flew?
Any and all suggestions will be helpful. I use my MBP everyday for my workload, so getting this to perform again and keep up with my demand is extremely important.
    Thanks!

Check the SMART status in Disk Utility. Other than that, not that I know of. Perhaps more advanced disk utilities like Disk Warrior, but I don't know.
You would hear the disk making a lot of noise if it were having issues accessing a bad sector.
I had a drive that started causing slow-downs and beach balls for a while. Erased drive and reinstalled. Same thing. The SMART status in Disk Utility showed Verified up until the drive died completely.

  • Too much resizing for capture sharpening?

For images that will be offset printed 2.25" wide by various lesser heights, is there a disadvantage to shooting large raw captures? At first I wanted to keep a large original 3008 x 2000 ppi as a master in case we wanted a larger print. But I'm not sure if exposure and other develop settings are degraded when image is resized too much. Would capture sharpening be less effective if image is reduced so much? I'm trying to test whether I should set a smaller file size when shooting, or hold certain develop settings till after resizing.
    Thank you,
    Tim

Tim, I think that Stu may have misunderstood your potential workaround. If I understand correctly, your plan was to:
    1. capture sharpen in LR
    2. export from LR at the new size
    3. re-import the newly resized version into LR
    4. Use the sharpening tools on the resized version to output sharpen
    5. Export the output sharpened resized image at "full-size" (i.e. no further resizing on export)
And your question was "if both LR and PS are being used to sharpen the same re-sized image, what can PS do that LR cannot," right?
Well, I have also been experimenting with this workaround and have found it to be satisfactory for many images. From what I can tell, USM in Photoshop is different in at least these potentially significant ways:
    1. PS has Threshold which, from what I can tell, works differently than Detail. You should play with each to get a feel for when it might be advantageous to use each. I have found threshold to be most useful for keeping PS from applying sharpening to fine-grain noise in the image. However, most fine-grain noise will be "averaged out" when downsizing, so this might not be an important difference.
    2. PS can apply a much greater amount of sharpening. Your need for huge amounts of sharpening will depend on the image.
    3. PS can use radii less than 0.5, which can be very useful for small thumbnail-size images.

  • "A USB device is drawing too much power..." External Harddrive

My 15" Macbook Pro, OS X, 10.6.8, 2GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB memory keeps booting my 1 TB Seagate external harddrive off because it is drawing too much energy.  It's done this repeatedly for about two weeks, and now it won't appear on the desktop (while it still whirs when I attach it and the LED comes on).  I checked how much energy it's drawing in the System Profiler.  500, then very little after I restarted both machines, and then too much again.  I tried connecting it with an identical harddrive's cable (my housemate has the same model), and it wouldn't register then, either.
...I suspect it's the harddrive as opposed to my MBP!  Or I hope it is, and not a problem with my USB ports or anything like that.  I'm surprised because the Seagate is connected to the mains...  But if it is the Mac, how would I go about checking to know if it is?  (My Wacom Bamboo is working fine.)
Anyone with any ideas, suggestions?  Anything else I need to inform you guys of?

:-) use your room mate's and do it!
pretty old drive, is it makeing clicking noises? try re repairting it before you go erasing but I think yoru system is giving you some sound advice. but I would go further in saying it's either too full or too old and is on it's last legs.
If you are afraid you're going to be loosing some important data that you haven't backed up get DiskWarrior as this has saved me from loosing my hair a few years back when my HDD crashed.
    http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/
if you do get this, be sure to be picky on the things you keep as it will not always work and it sounds like your hard drive is on it's last legs. Imagine a door slowly closing everytime it spins up.

  • My right ear pod is not making as much noise as the left ear pod

With no damage at all to the head phones, one of the ear pieces is not working as good as the other. In this case left is louder than right. Before this pair of ear pods I had the same issue with the pair before, except that time, it was my left not making as much noise. I'm sure it's in properly and there is no damage, but why has the headphone gotten worse!?

connect the headset to a computer or another device which have a mini jack connector like the iphone
to see if the issue is there too
and or connect another mini jack headset (most headsets are) to the phone
one or both of these 2 things should show you if your headset or your phone is broken

  • Garageband output on BT speaker? Too much latency, but iTunes plays fine

    Hi all
I have a Creative D200 that I like to use to play iTunes music in my office.
Today I tought that I would like to play my electric guitar, since I am basically alone and can make as much noise I want (yay).
I am surprised to see thou, that iTunes play music without changing anything, while GarageBand does not .
I have a USB unit that is my interface for Midi, Guitar and other instruments (an Alesis IO2), I use it to record my guitar, or to just play games like Rocksmith, or record riff with Guitar rig. The unit works fine, no latency when I use the headphones connected to the unit.
Anyway; back to GB: I tried to play the guitar, and I can hear the iTunes music playing on the speaker, and the guitar play in my headphones connected to the IO2. I tried to change the output to D200 (the BT speaker), and I get the output, but the lag is so much that is impossible to play honestly.
Tired to look for a function to reduce the latency but there is none on GB.
Now, I understand that BT has too much delay, altho I don't understand why the output of anything on my computer is going trough the speaker with no latency at all (games, iTunes, system sounds), but neither GarageBand nor Guitar Rig are able to play (Guitar rig does not even give me output at all, Garageband give me the high latency). I tought that should not matter where the sound comes from, since everything is wired to the computer; so when the audio has to be sent to the bluetooth speaker, shouldn't matter if is the output of GB, GR or anything else.
Possible that is possible to decode a MP3 on teh fly and play it with 0 latency, while is not possible to output the processed signal of a guitar, in the same way, on a mac pro with 16 GB of ram and 12 core?

    Hi Becca_hague,
    Thanks for the post.
You will need at least 2MB to effectively run BT Vision.  The real problem here is not your speed, its your connection constantly dropping out.  If we can figure out why your connection is dropping and fix this, then your speed should recover by itself.
Your noise margin is not very high at all which is strange, as one of the main culprits of a dropping connection is noise interference.  The fact you are already in the test socket rules out internal issues.  It may well be that the router you are using is faulty.  On the other hand this may not be the case.
I would like to run a few checks on the network side of things, to see if anything stands out as odd.  Please drop me an email to the email address in my profile. (click on my name and you will find the address under the "about me" section). Include your BT account details and the link to this thread.

  • How much noise does it make your intel mac mini?

In these last days I got my first intel Mac Mini with 512MB of RAM, when powered on, I can hear three different "sounds" coming from it:
    1. the fan rotation (a continuos rrrRRRrrrrrrr);
    2. the air flow from the back;
    3. the hard disk.
The major noise source is the fan rotation, not the air but the fan itself. I didn't hear any other computer or notebook with the fan making so much noise.
I have here a intel duo notebook too, but I cannot hear the fan when it is working.
Since the situation has become worst after 2 GB upgrade(fan is running fast for more time), I am asking mysel if this is normal or if my fan could be faulty.
So I would like to ask all intel mac mini owners here, if they have this noticeable noise source coming from the fan itself.
Here, when the fan goes faster, the noise coming from it is growing too and is bigger than any other sound, bigger then air flow.
It is quite probably that without this annoying "rrrrrrr" sound the mac mini will feel quite silent.
Since some users from other forums are claiming that their mini is very very silent and they do not notice any annoying noise coming from it, please post your feeling with your mac about this.
I am talking about a sound that is quite acute and louder about twice of air flow and three times more then hdd noise.
Thanks a lot for any report about.

It sounds like something is amiss with your mini either the fan or a heat sensor. I bought my duo on July 29th & it's nearly silent. I was surprised how much louder my 12 Powerbook G4 was as I was shifting over data preparing to ship it to the new owner. The only time my mini gets loud is when the super drive kicks in high gear when burning discs. Then it sounds like a fighter jet, but that's normal so I hear . I agree with the majority, you should get it looked at since it should be very quite unless you're using the optical drive.
