Too Much Red/Magenta in Pictures

I am using:
Adobe Pro Extended Version 9.3.2 (in default mode, out-of-the-box mode)
Vista 32 bit
Dell desktop PC with lots of ram
NVidia GEForce 8800 GTX
I am reviewing a draft copy of a friend's PDF e-book.  In his e-book are lots of pictures, of which many are strikingly too red or magenta in color.
Is there some setting that I should set so that my software properly picks up the color space and applies it? Is there some other setting that I should be aware of?
I am not sure what software or settings he used to create his PDF e-book.  I will ask.  He did, mention, however that the pictures look fine on his and his friend's pcs.  So whatever the problem might be, I'd like to find out so that, when the e-book is released, others don't suffer the same image degradation problem.
Again, are there switches or setting or general advice that I should be aware of?
Thank you for your advice.

Much to my surprise, I had altered the out-of-the-box settings.  In Preferences | Color Management, I had set ProPhoto RGB rather than the traditional sRGB.
I see other documents and the pictures look fine. But in the document that I am reviewing, the pictures look much too red when using ProPhoto RGB.  I suspect, though I am not sure, is that some documents have their pictures with the color space profile embedded in each picture.  In the document that I am reviewing, I am *guessing* that the color space is not embedded in each picture.

    Hi.

  • Too much red after upgrade!

I am not sure if after updating either to Panther or Tiger or from iPhoto 4 to 5 all the photos in my iPhoto collection had an overly red tint! All photos taken after that look normal. I have not printed any of those photos so I can't tell if they come out in print that way. I thought at the time a future update would fix this problem. But till today I am stuck with many many photos that used to be perfect all have a red looks to them! Since I never checked up on this I don't know if this was something other people had? I would appreciate any suggestions on this very much. Thank you for your reply.

    Walter,
You will have much better luck with the post you have in iPhoto 5 -- where the color management and color profile issues are being discussed near your topic.
If you edited those older pictures you can try one thing. pick one and see if you can revert to original. See how the original looks.

  • Too much red in photos

    Hello all,
I sometimes use iPhoto 08 and import my photos (which I have processed in Adobe Photoshop CS 3), and then send them to iDVD so that I can have a slideshow. I then add some music and then burn the disc to be played in a set-top dvd player on my TV.
The problem that I am having is that although my photos look great when I'm done processing them...it seems like iPhoto is adding red to a lot of them. My faces on people seem really red.
Is there something that is causing this?
    Thanks,
    Norm

Are you having trouble only with the photos you've edited with PS? If so how do you have PSCS3 setup to manage color? Here's how I've set it up:
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • DVD burn Result - to much red in all pictures

I am using iPhoto to adjust pics; using iMovie to make a movie incorporating transitions, music, effects and zoom and pan; very satifisfied with result also did chapter markers; Went to iDvd; created my theme; dragged my movie into iDvd; previewed movie... everything looked great and music was as expected. Burned the movie to a DVD using iDVD and the results of the pictures are all in a redish color... How can I correct this? The movie looked so good on my eMac. Using iLife 5 and have all updates from Apple. Also have run permissions from eMac disk and restarted computer... did this several times... all DVD disks have the redish color cast to them..... Any help would be greatly appreciated... Colleen

    Hi, Colleen,
Welcome to the discussions! Sounds as if you are doing everything correctly.
You cannot always guarantee that if preview is fine the burned disk will be ok.
First, try making a disk image. Follow these directions: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
If that looks good, then perhaps the problem is the media. What are you using?
Verbatim DVD-R is the best...many problems with others.
Try those and see if the color is better.
You also might want to look at this thread, and be sure to do anything Len Goff suggests as he is a real DVD expert: Len Goff, "G4 won't recognize DVD-R" #2, 12:53am Oct 14, 2005 CDT

  • Why is there too much exposure when taking pictures?

My pictures come out over exposed when I take a picture with the flash any ideas why?

As with any point and shoot camera, the flash is of limited utility. If you get to close to someone while using it, they will appear over exposed. Try moving away from the person. Or, better yet, if you can, turn the flash off and turn on more lights.
You may also want to try removing any case you have. Some of them interfer with exposure controls.

  • Hi, im trying to download pictures from my camera but when I connect the lightning to usb camera adapter i get the message that there is too much energy required to support the device, can anyone help me?

Hi, I´m trying to use the lightning to usb camera adaper, but I get a message that ¨there is too much energy needed to support the device¨, so I can´t download my pictures, can anyone help me?

    This discussion may help.
It mostly depends on the camera. Some cameras have a Transfer Mode, which does not attempt to charge while transferring pictures. does yours have such a setting?
Alternatively you can try to plug a powered USB hub between the camera and the USB connector so the power is provided by the HUB rather than the iPad.
Other than that, yes the Memory card reader may be a better option assuming your Camera uses Secure Digital (SD) type memory cards.

Has anyone found a way to download pictures fro Samsung Galaxy 3 phone to the Ipad air? I bought the lightning adapter but I keep getting the message device uses too much power.  Any ideas?

You can't directly from a Galaxy phone.  But you can certainly upload the pictures from your Galaxy phone to your computer and then sync them to your iPad via iTunes.

  • All pictures in Photos on Mac syncing with Photos on iPhone and taking up too much space

Since I downloaded Photos on my MacBook Pro, all the pictures that I had in iPhotos are not showing up on Photos on my laptop AND my iPhone. I used to be able to choose which iPhoto albums to sync with my iPhone and would prefer to do that again. It is taking up way too much space to have them all synced to my phone. Any idea how to choose which pictures I want available on my phone???

Before the migration to Photos on laptop, I would go to iTunes, Photos, Sync Photos, Selected Albums, and then choose the albums from iPhoto to sync to phone.
Since I had the problem with all of the photos syncing to iPhone, I un-checked Sync, but they were all still showing up on iPhone.
I just looked at iTunes and saw this message:
When I looked last week, the "copy from _______" was not an option. Now I am able to choose the iPhoto albums that I want to sync just as I was before.
I still don't know why they were syncing when I didn't have that option selected, but it appears Apple has fixed the issue I was having.
I guess I will continue to use iPhoto rather than Photos on my laptop to avoid this issue again.
    Thank you for your help!!!!

I got an iPad 2 and I cannot get my pictures to upload from a micro sd card as the iPad is saying device not accepted using too much power. Can anyone help? My iPad 2 is a 16 gb and my micro sd card is 4 gb

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit. First download the pics to your computer.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

  • C100 has too much green in the video, doesnt disappear when adding magenta

So last night I was just doing some testing with the c100 and I noticed that in the viewfinder after auto white balancing, there ws a bit too much green in spots where there relly shouldnt be. I took some video and wanted to see if this was just something in the LCD screen or the actual video, and the green cast was indeed in the video. I went into the color profiles and tried adding magenta but it actually did nothing to reduce the green in the areas I was seeing it in and only made everything else more magenta.
I'm just wondering if this is a known issue or if anyone has experienced this and if there;s any real fixes.

    Hi JerTob,
We are sorry to hear that you are still having issues with the color casts.  I suspect that this has a lot to do with the color temperature of the lighting that you are shooting in.  What you have shown us is indoors, it's hard to make a distinct determination on the lighting because you could have any number of temperature bulbs in the mix.  This type of mixture of lighting can have distinct effects on the color casts you see in the final image.  This is especially true if shooting with household bulbs in an overhead or something to that effect.
What I would suggest would be to shoot outdoors, with the camera calibrated for such, and see if the same effect occurs.  Lighting indoors can be very tricky and most videographers shooting in a professional environment use specialized lighting to correct for such casts and  work with a colorist in post production to correct for exacting color.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.

  • Why is there way too much extra info attached to my photo cd, when I simply burnt only 6 pictures on it? This has been happening for months now.

Why is there too much extra info attached to my photo cd, when I simply burnt only 6 pictures on it?
This has been happening for several months now.
    It used to work correctly.
    For example:
I burnt a photo file of 25 pictures from my iphoto collection.
When I went to the store to print them, the computer indicated there were 155 photos on it.
All were cropped versions of my 25 pictures.
    Weird.
Then when I only burnt 6 pictures today onto a cd, I took the disc to a Print Shop.
Sure enough, the disc had other data and files associated with photos on it.
Yes, my 6 were on it, but the Print Shop had to spend extra time searching for them.
    What's uP?

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa
