(Too) Variable Audio Output through mini jack

Tried looking through prior posts to see if anyone had remotely similar problems. Just lately my 5G iPod will radically change in volume level mid-song; so much so that it distorts and is in danger of blowing my speakers in my car. Don't have Sound Check on but doesn't seem to be an issue here as it's midsong. I mostly listen to it through speakers plugged in to the mini jack, or headphones and not the dock. Any ideas what this might be caused by?

You can output audio thru HDMI, with appropriate adapter.
You can use additional cheap external usb audio for monitoring.

  • Audio output through speakers but not headphone jack

I have an HP Envy 15-J178ca. I am unable to play audio from my headphone jack, but audio plays on my speakers. When I plug in my headphones, the speakers stop outputting audio but no audio plays through the headphone output. I have tried multiple headphones which all work on different devices and was unsuccessful at outputting audio. I have updated my audio driver to the latest version using the HP drivers site. The following is a screenshot of the sound devices on my computer.

  • No variable audio output for Cisco CHS 435HDC set top box.

Background:  Until the other day I had my stb connectected to a TV, using TV sound, with an HDMI cable.  The P265v2 remote volume control changed the TV volume.  No problems.
My new TV & home theater system was recently installed.  We don't use the TV speakers.  While my first preference was to program the Verizon remote to change the volume on my Onkyo receiver, this did not appear to be an option on the remote's programming instruction page on the Verizon website.  Instead, I am directed to change a setting on the remote that makes the Verizon remote change the stb output volume vs the tv volume.  I changed the setting on the remote and ensured the stb box was set up for "variabe" audio output.
Problem:  Using the stb variable audio settings, volume settings 1 through 30 produce the same volume.  (Volume setting 0 produces no volume, as one would hope.)  It appears the "variable" setting isn't producing a variable output as it should be on this unit.
Thinking that maybe the receiver was complicating the sitation, I tried connecting the stb to the old TV and the new TV directly and had the same results.
Now, while I am watching TV, I need to have the receiver remote at hand in addition to the Verizon remote.  It would be nice to have the volume be adjustable as it should be while using the Verizon remote.  I don't like the idea of using a seperate universal remote because then I would lose some of the functionality that the Verizon remote provides when watching TV, using the DVR, watching on demand, etc.
I would like to know if this is a problem just with my unit, or if it exists with all of these units, which would hopefully be fixed with a Cisco/Verizon firmware update soon, hopefully.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
In order to control the volume on your home theater system, you'll need a FiOS TV Universal Remote that has the 4-buttons on the top for 'DVD', 'Aux'iliary, 'TV' and 'STB'.  The audio receiver would have to be programmed into the FIOS TV Remote, and controlled using the 'Aux'iliary button.
Verizon's 4-Button Universal Remote Controls are available for purchase:
    a) online via www.verizon.com/fiosaccessories
    OR
    b) at a local FiOS TV store (call first to check if they have them in stock).  For a list of stores:  http://www22.verizon.com/support/residential/tv/fiostv/general+support/account+issues/questionsone/8...
Presently, the default remotes for new set top boxes are the 2-button P-265 (newer version) remotes.
Regarding a problem with HDMI/optical on Cisco 435 STBs, check out the following:
    Go to this webpage:  http://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/TV/FiOSTV/Receivers/Equipment+Issues/QuestionsOne/12839...
Click on the link for 'Cisco CHS 435 HD DVR User Guide'.
Open the PDF and go to page 22 for 'Connecting to a Home Theater System...'.
    Hope this helps!

  • No audio out through Mini Displayport?

Last night I hooked up my first-gen MBA to my plasma TV using a connector that converted the Mini Displayport to HDMI. The movie I streamed from Netflix looked great. One problem -- no audio. I guess there's no audio out through the Mini Displayport? I was forced to hook up computer speakers to my MBA. Is there a way I can get audio to go through the Mini Displayport rather than the audio-out/headphone jack?

There are a couple of adapters out that will convert DVI plus optical audio to HDMI (with audio). They are all made by the same company (though they are branded and priced differently). I think they are currently running around $100. The problem you might run into is HDCP. Apple doesn't do HDCP with their DVI... so you'll end up not having a compliant HDCP chain... if that is important to you.
If you do this setup, make sure you have your TV set to a setting that is pixel to pixel... that is, doesn't adjust for overscan. Lest you loose some of your computer desktop.

  • No audio output from headphone jack?

I have no audio coming out of headphone jack on my 60 GB 'pod. Its songs will play normally through itunes but output from stereo jack is kaput. What gives?

Now this is an area that I am not familiar with.  I do not know what your audio source is (microphone, DVD player?) and exactly what you are trying to achieve.  You may have to use the Audio MIDI application so look at that to see what it entails.
I suggest that you start a new discussion listing your specific objectives.  There are fellow users well versed in this area, I am not.
    Ciao.

  • TS4113 Mac mini looses audio output through HDMI after being in 'sleep mode'

Since a month or so, my Mac mini is unable to send audio through HDMI output after being in 'sleep mode'.
Recently this was no problem, but now I cannot hear anything after unsleeping (unless I reboot fully).
    Please help.

This is not just a Mac Mini problem.  I've found comments from people with all kinds of Mac, with any kind of external sound device, who all have this same issue.
The common factor is Mountain Lion.
Apparently there is a new build (12F42) which is supposed to fix this.

Apple released it to their employees on the 25th Sept.

  • Audio in through headphone jack, out through USB?

Hi community, hoping you all can help me solve an audio puzzle.  I currently play iTunes through a USB digital audio convertor connected to powered speakers.  The system works great (especially with the "remote" app to control it).  However, I would like to play my TV's audio through the same USB device.  I have an oldish macbook pro.  I've confirmed that the headphone jack can be used as input and made this selection in system preferences, where I have also selected the DAC as the output.  The TV out is plugged in to the macbook headphone jack and I can see the audio registering on the little meter in the audio input preferences but I cannot get it to pass through to my speakers.  I've reset the PRAM and SMC and I've fiddled with audio MIDI setup to no avail.  Perhaps this just isn't possible but I'd thougth I'd ask for help here before I gave up.
Oh, and before someone suggests it, the DAC only has USB input, no other options.
    Thanks.

Have you tried using another HeadPhones ?

  • HDMI Audio Output via Mini Display Port to Sharp Aquos TV cuts out every 10 seconds

I haven't had an issue til I recently did a software update to my Mac Pro.
I have two mini-display ports on the back of my machine but always have been able to listen to audio from the HDMI connection without an issue. Anyone else having this issue?  I checked and reset all the setting on my Television and get prompted that a icompatible PCMI audio signal is being recieved.
    PLEASE HELP!
    Thanks!

I have seen one report that this is an acknowledged bug in OS10.6.8, the only cure for now is reverting OS:

  • Final cut pro audio output through firewire

    Hi,
At present I'm using my macbook pro for video playback in an in house broadcasting studio.  I'm sending my video and sound through firewire into a Canapus ADVC110 box and then I split the audio into my sound board, and my video into a video mixer.  Unfortunately, I'm only getting one track of sound from FCP.  Do you know how I could get both tracks going through the firewire?  I'm hoping it's a simple solution.
    Thanks

The problem is that I'm not sending it through speakers.  I'm sending it into a mixer, that broadcasts to both televisions and simulcasts out of the headphones into a PA system.  I broadcast out of a school.  The problem is that the mixer only sees one side (audio track 1)   It doesn't see the other side.  However, if I hook a dvd player up to the same plugs on the mixer, it sees 2 sides.
Everything is cool for most presentations; however, when students do voice overs and they only go to one track, it may not be heard through the mixer.
Remember, my hookup is as follows:  macbook pro - firewire - canopus advc110 video converter - then the video goes into a anologue video mixer (panasonic AG-MX70) but the sound gets split and goes into a audio mixer.  The problem is that the sound out of the canopus box gives me only one side.  I've tried replacing every cord, firewire, plug, etc, and the result is the same.
To survive the next few days of presentations, how do I send out a mono audio signal from my macbook, instead of a stereo audio signal????

  • Can I play audio output through both my iMac speakers and Apple TV simultaneously?

I have Bose speakers conected to the headphone jack on my iMac.  When I select Airplay Mirroring on the iMac, the Bose speakers become disabled as audio is then streamed to Apple TV which resides in another room?  Is there any workaround which will give me audio to both the headphone jack and Apple TV simultaneously? Thanks.

  • Why is my macbook playing the audio output through the microphone?

I have an older Macbook Pro. When I call someone on Skype, Google Hangouts, etc., they are able to hear all the audio that my computer is playing through the headphones. E.g. if I watch a video while Skyping someone, they can hear all the audio from that video through their own headphones. This applies to any sounds my computer makes (including the volume change sound, other systems sounds, etc.).
I originally thought it might be some sort of line interference from poor quality headphones, but tests with different headphones rule that out. Please, any thoughts on what might be causing this?

What Mac do you use? What version of OS X is it running? What versions of iMovie and iDVD do you use?

  • Sending logic audio/output through optical output on g5?

hello, im having trouble trying to rount the audio from a logic file to the optical output on my g5...i want to run the optical cable into my dat machine?
just cant seem to make it happen?
    any suggestions?
    thanks!

make sure you are sending audio out of the digital out on your computer by checking you sound settings in your system preferences.
Make sure the sample rate matches for your DAT machine and the optical out on your mac. DATs tend to default to 48k, whereas most other consumer devices (such as your computer) run at 44.1k. All DATs are different though. Some change sample rate automatically when they detect an external clock source, while others allow you to manually set the sample rate.
You can set your computer's digital I/O sample rate usign the Audio/MIDI setup found in your utilities folder.
