Tool panel has frozen

My tool panel has frozen, I can't access hidden tols or dropdown menus I am using a macbook with trackpad

When the GUI begins acting up on a PC, the first thing that I suggest is to download and install the latest video driver, from the mfgr's. Web site, BUT the video drivers for the Mac are updated with the OS. Have you updated your OS recently? If not, I would do that first, to eliminate a video driver issue.
If there is not update, or it does not help, I would reset my Preferences. This is accomplished by holding down Shift+Ctrl+Alt IMMEDIATELY after launching PS, and holding them down, until the "Reset Preferences" dialog screen appears, and one would choose OK to do that. I am guessing that it's Shift+Cmd+Option on the Mac, but seem to recall that it has to be specific Shift+Cmd+Option keys, like the left side. Maybe a Mac-user will clarify the resetting of Preferences on a Mac.

You probably pressed the O key which cycles through the crop overlays when the crop tool is enabled.
Click Tools / Crop Guide Overlay in Develop to see the various choices.

Missing Tools Panel

I have just downloaded InDesign CS6. When I open a new document, I do not have the Tools Panel. I cannot find a solution. I have tried pressing ESC but this has no effect. Can anyone help me please? Thank you. Kevin

Windows (tool) panels are not showing, or letting me use most of the tool features. e.g. when I klick windows>align but no align window shows up, even though it is ticked in the 'Windows' drop down menu. This is the second time this has happened since subscribing. Help!

It may be time for the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

FW CS5 Tool Panels Not Showing

Hi,
When I load Adobe Fireworks CS5 it starts error-free and I can load and work on documents no problem. When I tab across to the "Align" panel or the "Color Palette" or try to use the "Auto Vector Mask" function, it comes up with a blank panel.
If I right click on the panel it says "Movie not loaded..."
Does Fireworks use Flash movie based tool panels? It seems like the software has lost the locations of these panels or perhaps they've been deleted somehow...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I've uninstalled the debugger, and Fireworks individually, and I've uninstalled the full Adobe CS5 Suite - then re-installed it all and I till have the same problem...
Surely i'm not the only one experiencing this issue...
On another note, a friend (with the same spec work pc) installed the flash debugger and his Fireworks install is fine.
I'm using Windows XP in case you were wondering.

LOST TOOLS PANEL in Illustrator CS3 for Mac !

I recently installed Adobe CS3 for Mac on an iMac G5 OS X 10.4.11. Photoshop works great with no problems. However in Illustrator I cannot get my Tools Panel to appear. My "WINDOW" pull down menu in Illustrator only has the following options: "New Window", "Minimize Window", "Bring All to Front", "Attributes", "Info" and "Type". The "VIEW" pull down menu has many options but none seem to open up the Tools panel. None of my Drawing Tools, Shape Tools, Cutting Tools, Moving Tools etc are visible!
I have uninstalled and then re-installed CS3 to no avail. I have tried to reset the Adobe software preferences by simultaneously holding down "Command+Option+Shift+Control" during Illustrator launch, a tip I found online but it also failed to work.

This is what i think is wrong.
i think though you have installed AI three times you have also made an alias of the applications icon, or what you thin is an alias.
But what you probably have done is to make a copy of the application outside of the application folder.
If in fact you do think that you are launching fro an alias trash the alias and not and make a new one by holding down the command and option key as you drag the icon. What you probably did was only hold the option key down which made a copy of the application outside the application folder which could prevent these features from loading.
Now I have also heard there is a software conflict that can cause this but I admit I do not recall what that is.

Customizable tool panel

Currently Illustrator holds about 48 tools in its tool panel. Some of them are rarely used in my workflow (say Scallop or Flares...) At the same time other tools, more useful for my purposes, are not so easily accessible.
I'd like to be able to customize a panel with my frequently used tools and save it in my workspace
-i use a laptop so screen real state is precious-
Maybe there's a way to do it, but I'm unaware of it.
(note for an hypothetical Adobe developer reader of this forums: the pen tool not joining unselected paths or the ability to join multiple paths without selecting endpoints requests have a much higher priority in my personal wishlist)

I couldn't agree more.
If I remember correctly, there used to be a plug-in for older versions of
Illustrator that allowed the building of custom toolbars. I think it was by
Extensis and I think it was called Vector Tools. And if I may point out,
without wishing to rile the Luddites here, Freehand has this capability
in-built.
A small amount of customisation is possible by removing items from the Tools
folder. I have no use for the Eraser tool and Adobe chose to hide the
Scissors tool, which I do use frequently, behind it in the Toolbar. By
removing EraserTool.aip from Plug-ins>Tools, the Scissors tool is once again
foremost.
I'm hoping that Configurator for Photoshop will eventually be available for
Illustrator so that I can construct a new Toolbar, fashioned exactly as I
want it. For example, I would prefer the Rectangle, Ellipse and Polygon tools
to be always visible rather than nested. I would like to have my most-used
Pathfinder and Action buttons on the main Toolbar. And so on.

CS5 Tool Panel Stops Working

I need some serious assistance getting CS5 working.
When I first load an image (file) in to Photoshop I can use "select" or "Crop" or "Healing Brush" normally. But, after cropping, or selecting or healing a defect Those tools no longer work.
I have reset the tools.
I have to save the modified image and shutdown Photoshop. Reopen the program load the saved image and again the "select" or "crop" or "healing" tools again until I use them again. Then they stop working.
This never happened with I used CS2. Can you please help me resolve.
Did note that this affects all tools in tool panel. Also, and this is first I noted it, if I minimize PhotoShop after the tools "freeze" and leave is minimized for several minutes, the tools return to normal function with I try use Photoshop again.

Something else occurred to me... Have you ever had a different brand card on your system? Seems unlikely, since it's a Win 8 setup, but if so sometimes remnants of older drivers get left behind and can mess things up for the newer card. I have heard of (though never personally used) a product called DriverSweeper. Also both ATI and nVidia I believe have removal tools available if you do a bit of web searching.
I hope you find a solution, but don't overlook the possibility of getting a newer video card to solve the issue. I moved up from a very nice ATI Radeon HD 5670 to a 7850 about a year and a half ago, and while I didn't think there'd be much difference, the newer card just does everything so much more smoothly that I'm glad I made the switch. Technology in GPUs really has been changing over the past few years, and they're not that expensive.

I believe the answer is no but it's worth asking.
I have a "good" and a "old-but serviceable" monitor, both 1920 x 1200 and driven by a AMD FirePro 4900 GPU. "Good" means a new color-managed, wider-gamut, Asus PA246. "Old..." means TN-tech Gateway-branded unit bought in 2008. If I make the ASUS the primary monitor under Win7 64-bit I get to see the results of color shifts and contrast decisions in Lightroom, DxO, whatever. I have been looking at these post-processing changes on the Asus wider-gamut display by turning on the "Secondary Monitor" choice. But it's like a tennis match: my head goes back and forth many times a second, because the tool is so far from the better rendered image. Yes, they are set side-by-side on my desk, both horizontal. (I did like the portrait orientation for the tools display(Gateway TN), as it is great for productivity outside of Lightroom.)
I also use a WACOM Intuos5, but I think that does not add anything here. That has its own neck-killing useability issues (...but I like the tool.)
So I believe we do NOT haven access to any kind of tear-away tool palettes. right?

I do see how you might want to move tool panels to a different screen, for the best view of your picture - but at the same time, I don't see how you can comfortably do so all the time, because this means bouncing your attention from one screen to the other - the critical editing involves both the image and the sliders together. That was why I suggested keeping Grid view available: it's rather a distinct mode of working in any case. Many things you do there can be done off keystrokes, using icon badges, right-click context menus and so on. I suspect every single LR user has a unique combination of things they like to do with keystrokes, vs things they like to do with the mouse. We work best when the tools are comfortable to us, IMO.
So Tab and Shift+Tab give you instant room to work on your primary (or single) screen, but - importantly - without breaking the chain of thought. My hesitation about jumping the interface back and forth between screens, is that we shouldn't be really thinking much about the interface, we should have our attention on the pictures.
Using loupe info overlay can remove some need to refer to metadata panels, also there's a handy little info summary under the histogram. Once you have some view filter presets saved, some export presets saved, recently accessed collections in the list, and so on... the need to constantly go out of and back to the Develop-window-plus-filmstrip does reduce. Thumbnail badges are great - clicking them takes you to the control involved, and you can manage stacking etc nicely that way.

Issue with InDesign & Illustrator -- Control Panel and Tool Panel don't show

I just downloaded CS5 Creative Suite onto my shiny new MacBook. I'm formally a PC user and have used the CS suites for a long time, but haven't upgraded since CS3.
I open a file on the MacBook in Illustrator or InDesign and it shows the document window and the pasteboard. But it doesn't show the Control Panel or the Tool Panel.
Any ideas on how to get these items to show up?

I ended up uninstalling the programs and reinstalling them, on the
recommendation of a friend. This has fixed the issue.
