Tool panel position bug in CS4

Is any one able to move the tool panel, and then upon reopening PPro, have it where you put it last? I usually like mine on the left side of the timeline, but it's always right under the audio meter when I open PPro, no matter where I put it last. I even created a custom workspace, but it does the same thing.
I know it's a small thing, but to me it's just a bit annoying. Everything else about CS4 is looking good!

Moving the panel does not mark your project as modified, however if you deliberately save your project after moving the panel then it will be where you put it when you re-open your project.
Cheers

  • FW CS4 Mac: Top left of window lost under Tools Panel and Application Bar

    Hello!
    Somehow Fireworks started opening all my windows pushed to the top left, and tucked under the tools panel and the new Applications Bar - the only way to move windows, is to un-snap the bars and pull them off of the top of the screen -- really annoying.  I tried throwing out FW CS4's prefs files - no help.  Changing the view mode - no help...
    Help?

    These are the steps that should be followed:
    Restore default preferences
    Quit Fireworks.
    Locate the Fireworks      Preferences file on your hard disk and delete it.
    The exact location of this file varies from system to system.
    In Windows, preferences are      in your user-specific Fireworks configuration folder.
        Windows [Drive]:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\Adobe\Fireworks CS#\English\
    In Mac OS, preferences are in      the Library/Preferences folder in your user folder. For information about      locating your Mac OS user folder, see Apple Help.
    Mac              [User]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Fireworks CS#/en/Fireworks Preferences
    Note: On Mac OS, most      Fireworks user-specific configuration files are stored in your      user-specific Application Support folder.
              The Fireworks CS4 Preferences file is an exception.
    3.  Restart Fireworks.
    The next time Fireworks is launched, a new preferences      file will be created that restores Fireworks to its original      configuration.

  • XY graph cursor position bug

    I have reproduced the bug mentioned here:
    http://forums.lavag.org/Graph-Cursor-XY-Position-Bug-t1366.html&gopid=40859#entry40859
    I've reproduced this bug (?) in Labview 8.5, with an XY graph doing
    much the same as Jack. The attached zip file contains a stripped down
    version of my program (originally written by my coworker, Andrew
    MacDonald). Run "RENA3 Data Viewer.vi" and follow the instructions.
    As Jack said, changing Cursor.PosX to Cursor.Index solves the problem.
    I did not find this bug mentioned anywhere other than the above link.

    Hi Karla,
    Sorry if that wasn't as obvious as I thought! :-)  Hopefully the attached image makes it clear.  On the front panel, 'Cursor Channel' is inputted.  This is directly wired to Histogram.Cursor.PosX.  Immediately following, Histogram.Cursor.PosX is read and wired to the front panel indicator 'Cursor.Cursor Position:Cursor X'.  There is always a difference of 15 or 16 between the two values.  If there was no bug, these two values should be identical!  I can only conclude that Labview is doing something funny...
    As I mentioned before, changing Cursor.PosX to Cursor.Index fixes the problem.
    A bit of background:  my FWHM function outputs the peak channel, and the cursor is supposed to go through the peak so you can have a visual check that it is analyzing the right peak.  I noticed that the line would never go through the peak; the line would always have an offset.  After wasting a couple of hours, it became clear that I was wiring the correct value into 'Cursor.PosX', but something was going wrong beyond that.
    Cheers,
    Fraser

  • Windows (tool) panels are not showing.

    Windows (tool) panels are not showing, or letting me use most of the tool features. e.g. when I klick windows>align but no align window shows up, even though it is ticked in the 'Windows' drop down menu. This is the second time this has happened since subscribing. Help!

    Sam,
    It may be time for the list.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

    Try resetting the workspace. If that doesn't work, try Replace Your Preferences

  • Custom Metadata Panels from CS3 to CS4.

    I have install CS4 on my Vista Ultimate PC. It runs like a dream. However there is now a new format for the custom metadata panels. I have two panels that I created in CS3 that I need to convert to the new format. Is there an easy way to do this?
    The CS3 files are txt files that all I had to do was copy to the proper directory and they appeared. Thanks.
    Fred

    Thanks Gunar,
    I already had my custom XMP panel for my server product for InDesign. I tried to create a CS4 compatible panel on MacPro (Mac OS X 10.5.5 3GB RAM) using every possible method from the XMP FileInfo SDK pdf - it didn't work. The panel did show up in the dialog, but not the fields. Not only this, all fields also disappeared from some other panels. After I removed my custom panel, everything went back to normal.
    I tried:
    -Generic panel method - the fields didn't show up
    -The Flex SDK method: when I run
    ant built.xml
    I got the "Target "build.xml" does not exist in the project "TestPanel"." error (I checked many times - all the files were where they're supposed to be, and I run it from the correct directory).
    -I downloaded Flex Builder, followed all the steps - the fields didn't show up, and fields in other panels disappeared.
    The idea of building the panel interface interactively is great - I hope it will ever work.
    Any ideas of why it didn't work for me?
    While we're on this, I think that the new tabbed interface for the File Info dialog is a huge step back. You already had a great interface, with the list of panel names on the left side - which is easy to use and is standard through many Adobe dialogs.
    The multi-tab approach for many items proved to be inefficient long time ago. Right now you created a dialog that works like a dilaog in QuarkXPress 4 - what's the point?
    To support the new tabbed interface, you had to introduce TWO new "arrow" controls, none of which is user-friendly, and which make a simple task of choosing a panel extremely confusing.
    The new feature of changing panel position by dragging is great, but it could be also achieved through the side list approach.
    Bottom line: could you please restore the side list approach. I think it will help advance the XMP technology further and encourage people to actually use it , instead of doing exactly the opposite.

  • Empty tool panels

    I'm running CS4 on an OSX 10.6.4 equipped 17" Mac Book Pro (Circa 2007). Lately, while working in PS, InD, or Ai, my tool panels will occasionally show up empty. (See attached) It's most annoying when you're in the throws of a looming deadline... I've been able to work around the problem by searching out alternate tool controls in the drop-down menus, but it does slow me down. The content can just as suddenly reappear, making it difficult to recognize anything I'd just done that might make them show back up... Probably some key combination I don't know about, but from where I sit it feels like my copy of CS4 is corrupt! I mean it does seem strange that I've seen the behavior in all three of these CS4 apps... When I snapped the screen grabs attached here, all of the panels were empty. Paragraph styles, Swatches, etc. I've had an empty Mask panel in PS and no layers in the Ai layers panel. And then they're back again. Anyone else see this before?
    Thanks!
    D
    M.I.A... and then...
    ...back again.

    Hi dbrooks321,
    Unfortunately you cannot rescale or change the size of the tool panel within Photoshop, those are fixed settings. However, there are some tips and tricks to magnifying in your screen. If you are using a Mac, you can go to System Preferences --> Accessibility --> Zoom, then select "Use Keyboard Shortcuts".
    Once you have that enabled, you can physically zoom your entire screen by pressing "Option + Command + ="
    Similarly, you can zoom out and return to normal by selecting "Option + Command + -"
    This will ultimately allow you to magnify the UI (User Interface) outside of the program itself.
    Magnified will look something like this:
    Please note that the point of magnification is from the location of your mouse on the screen.
    Hope it helps!

  • Resize tool panels

    Help - I'm working in Photoshop CS4 on a Mac - and for some reason I cannot get my tool panels to resize. I can only see 2 of the many many layers in my documents and it's making me crazy! For some reason, there is no resizer at the bottom right corner. Can anyone help? Thanks!

    What you are seeing is not normal.
    Try trashing your preferences as per the FAQs of this forum (press Command+Option+Shift as you launch Photoshop and hold those keys down until you see a dialog box asking you if you really want to delete Preference, which you do.)

  • Convert CS3 XMP Panels to work with CS4

    I have a series of custom XMP panels which we wrote to work with CS3. Now that we are about to migrate the balance of our users to CS4 and shortly everyone to CS5, I see that these panels no longer work. What is the easiest way to migrate these panels.
    Thanks in advance,
    Morgan

    Hi,
    we have made an experimental java tool to convert CS3 to CS4/5 panels.
    Please find it attached and try it out if you like -- but I can offer no warranty :-)
    Note that the approach is limited when it comes to the layout of the panel.
    You need to adjust the generated MXML code.
    It works as follows:
    1. Find your CS3 panel (a txt file) and can call
    java -jar EvePanelConverterApp.jar {Eve Input File} {MXML Output File}
    The tool converts the panel based on an EVE (ZEVE) definition to an MXML file.
    2. Use the XMP FileInfo SDK, create a new panel project using the "Custom Panel Wizard" and stuff the generated MXML file into it.
    3. Adjust the design, compile and deploy.
    Please let me know, if it worked for you or if you have questions or problems.

    In Preview, I suddenly am unable to get the "Adjust Color" tool panel to edit images. I just get the rectangular image selection tool instead. How do I ge the "Adjust Color" tool panel back?

    Hmmm, I wonder if that window is hidden or off screen? Have you moved the pic window around to look under it?
    Might try this...
    Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.
    Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.bookmarks.plist
    Reboot & test.
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
