Tool tips are huge: they fill to edge of screen

Whenever I hover over an icon on a tool bar or a web page, the box the tip is displayed in extends all the way to the bottom of the monitor (or the top, if the icon is lower on the page). (A screen shot would explain it easily – is there any way to post one?)

When the problem was still there after a clean installation, I figured out what was generating the issue – an app that I find very useful and that hasn't been a problem before: Actual Window Manager 6.4 (it also does multiple monitors). I don't think AWM is really the problem now – I think it's just that FF4 labels something differently enough from v3 that I need to investigate and change some settings in AWM. For now it's FF settings are just turned off. Thanks for your time!

  • Bridge CS6 tool tips are blocking the buttons!

    When I try to change the layout view (grid, list, etc.) with the buttons on the bottom right, the tool tips appear and I'm not able to click through them. So, basically, when I hover over them, the tool tips are blocking me from doing it.
    I look in Prefs for a Tool Tips checkbox and it's not checked right now, but they're still appearing, and still protecting the buttons from being clicked.
    Anyone know how to turn them off?
    And I have to say this is the most ridiculous problem I ever had with a program. Kinda funny.

    I still don't think it's the right checkbox to deactivate interface tool tips as it's in the "Thumbnails" sections of prefs. (And when I switch that on I get tool tips for thumbnails, when I switch it off I do not get tool tips for thumbnails. But the interface tool tips are always consistent.)
    Well, I'm again afraid. But this time for my big mouth...
    You are very right, I did have a long delay on my machine before the tooltips showed and having the checkbox set to on it seemed directly appearing.
    As there are many inconsistencies in Bridge (in fact throughout the whole Suite) this one is very big. Don't have a good alternative short name for it but calling 'show metadata when hovering over' 'show tooltips' is really a very bad approach
    The version is CS6 and I'm on a 2009 Mac Pro using 10.6.8 if that matters any.
    Thanks, it always matters, especially since this has become a general forum with both Windows and Mac. Different OS and different versions (including detail version number) gives more insight in possible solutions or advice (update etc)
    Also, I noticed that if I make Bridge CS6 smaller than the monitor window, then the tool tips over the buttons do not appear over the buttons anymore, but under them instead. The tool tips seem to be set to appear below the mouse pointer.  When Bridge is maximized and the bottom of the Bridge window touches the bottom of the monitor there is no place else for the tool tips to go, so they get pushed up... and cover the buttons.
    I always have the Dock in sight hence pressing the green button to enlarge my Bridge window to full screen leaves a small free space and as you well discovered has not your problematic behavior with tooltips over buttons.
    I would think Bridge should be able to detect the end of the screen, obviously it does because it knows to move the tool tips up so they don't appear "off screen".
    They should use this detection to determine if the tool tips should appear above or below (or away from the screen edge) the mouse pointer.
    Agreed
    I'll stop calling it a bug and switch it to "oversight". Bottom line though is the tool tips still block the buttons and shield them from being clicked.
    Oversight is the correct word, but besides the above described improvement they really should get rid of the name tooltips in thumbnails and add an option to really hide or show all tooltips as you would expect in a proper application
    Thanks for staying tuned and clarify!
    While the Bridge team tries to read most of this forum it might be wise to make a feature request for this, are you willing to do so since this is your discovery?

  • Tool tip areas show up in Internet Explorer

    Hi all,
    When using the tooltip feature, i get the below issue. THIS IS ONLY FOR IE.
    Works fine when viewed in Safari, Chrome and Firefox.
    The hidden areas are always visible and the popup tooltip goes behind the trigger areas.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi Rayintheuk,
    What is the Internet Explorer version you are using ? I will give an explanation for your issue based on the latest version Internet Explorer 11 .
    “I'm just curious why the favicons don't show up in the favourites in Internet Explorer.”
    Have you checked this setting ?Right click the white part of the bar and you will get this choice.
    “I have my favourites on the toolbar in folders. When i use Google Chrome it's very easy to see which favourite i want because of the picture next to it. Most of the ones in Internet Explorer
    just have an E on them”
    Right click the favorites in the favorites folder and you will get this :
    Then it will be shown in the favorites bar. Right click favorites ,you can choose the title widths of the favorites.
    “They don't get erased in Chrome either when you delete the history. The ones that do work in chrome seem to disappear”
    How did you erase the history ? Erasing the browsing history won`t affect the favorites folder of the Internet Explorer.
    Best regards

  • Rollover Tool Tips are NOT intuitive for error messages

    Just a note for the Adobe guys here:
    I've run into 2-3 occasions so far this morning that I was stymied by seemingly unresponsive DPS apps/services, only to discover the error message was hidden in a tooltip for the field.
    This happened both on the Folio Producer: Organizer (the very underdocumented Export command), and a couple times in viewer builder when I would bang "next" to no avail, only to finally notice a thin red line around a field.
    Not sure what the logic is for this, but that is not the proper usage of tooltips and is a pretty unfriendly experience for the user. Please, flash a big error popup in my face when there's an issue. I'd appreciate it.

    In the process of making a single folio viewer, you need to use the "export" function in Organizer. I went to do so, but the button was grayed out, and the "Export" command is not documented in either the "iPad publishing companion" or the "Uning Adobe DPS" document. Export is mentioned in the online help, but it never mentions that you have to publish the folio before you can export. It was only during a call to tech support that I happened to hover over the button long enough to see the "You must publish the app" warning in the tooltip.
    I now get it that "publishing" the folio is apparently a needed part of your process, but for a single issue viewer app, it never occurred to me that I needed to "publish" it, since Adobe would not be delivering the content.

  • Dynamic Tool Tip Options

    Hi All,
    Could any body tell , different types of dynamic tool tips are possible in OAF.
    Regards,
    Raghava

    Hi Raghava,
    You can use this code :
    vorow.setAttribute("ToolTip","Your Message");
    OATableBean tableBean=(OATableBean)webBean.findChildRecursive("VO Name");
    OAImageBean c1 = (OAImageBean)tableBean.findChildRecursive("Value for which this tooltip should display");
    OADataBoundValueViewObject tip = new OADataBoundValueViewObject(c1,"ToolTip");
    c1.setAttributeValue(oracle.cabo.ui.UIConstants.SHORT_DESC_ATTR, tip);
    Hope this may help.

  • General preference box unchecked but tool tips still showing up in PPro CC

    I've tried checking and unchecking the tool tips box in general preferences but the tool tips are still appearing - and getting in my way.  ;-)   Any ideas?  thanks.

    Are all the tooltips still popping up, or are do most of them go away while others remain? I believe it's by design that the following tooltip-esque popups remain: clip info in Timeline, marker info in the Timeline and the Source & Program monitors, Start/End/Duration when mouse pointer is over the beginning of the timebar in the Source or Program monitor.
    Let us know if either you're still seeing other tooltips or if you think the preference should hide all tooltips.

  • Interactive Report Filter Operator Tool Tip

    version 4.0.2.00.07
    Hello,
    I had question raised to add a Tool Tip to the Operators in the Filter on the Interactive Reports.
    When the Operator select list is displayed the Managers don't know what all the operators mean. I noticed that if the mouse is hovered over an operator there is a Tool Tip displayed that says "Operator".
    Where and how could that Tool Tip be modified to display a defination of what that operator is for, if it can be done at all?
    Please let me know if you need more information.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Erik-jan,
    I was hoping I could ask for you assistance again, if possible.
    I've made progress on this task, but I'm also having some issues.
    I've obtained the code as you've suggested and found that there are a few Operator lists.
    There are:
    apexir_STRING_OPT
    apexir_CLOB_OPT
    apexir_NUMBER_OPT
    apexir_DATE_OPT
    apexir_PSEUDO_OPT
    What I've done:
    Created Dynamic Actions for:
    apexir_STRING_OPT
    apexir_CLOB_OPT
    apexir_NUMBER_OPT
    apexir_DATE_OPT
    For each Operator list the Dynamic Actions are created like (changing the names and Operator selections as needed):
    name: Add tooltip to Date filter operators
    - event: Get Focus
    - selection type: jQuery Selector
    - jQuery Selector: select#apexir_DATE_OPT
    Create a true action with the following settings:
    - action: Execute Javascript Code
    - code:
    $(this.triggeringElement).find('option').each(function()
       if(this.value == ">")
          $(this).attr("title", "greater than - Value in Column is greater than the value in Expression");
       else if(this.value == ">=")
          $(this).attr("title", "greater than or equal to - Value in Column is greater than or equal to the value in Expression");
       else if(this.value == "<")
          $(this).attr("title", "less than - Value in Column is less than the value in Expression");
       else if(this.value == "<=")
          $(this).attr("title", "less than or equal to - Value in Column is less than or equal to the value in Expression");
       else if(this.value == "is null")
          $(this).attr("title", "is null - Value in Column is empty");
       else if(this.value == "is not null")
          $(this).attr("title", "is not null - Value in Column is not empty");
       else if(this.value == "is in the last")
          $(this).attr("title", "is in the last - Value in Column is in the last x timeframe");
       else if(this.value == "is not in the last")
          $(this).attr("title", "is not in the last - Value in Column is not in the last x timeframe");
       else if(this.value == "is in the next")
          $(this).attr("title", "is in the next - Value in Column is in the last x timeframe");
       else if(this.value == "is not in the next")
          $(this).attr("title", "is not in the next - Value in Column is not in the last x timeframe");
       else if(this.value == "between")
          $(this).attr("title", "between - Provides a means to test whether an Expression falls within a range of Values");
    })The problem is that the Tool Tips are only showing for the STRING Operator list. If a numeric column or a date column are selected the Tool Tip shows as 'Operator'. I thought that maybe it was a conflict with all these Dynamic Actions so I moved the STRING Dynamic Action to the last one in the sequence and put the DATE Dynamic Action as the first in the sequence. Still only the Tool Tips for the STRING columns are displayed and not the NUMERIC or DATE.
    I've tried to see if there was possibly a different name being used for the two lists that don't display, but I haven't found any other place where these lists are being created. I haven't found a way to set a breakpoint to confirm that's indeed the list being created with those names.
    Would you have any ideas here?
    Thanks,
    Joe

  • Tool Tip for VO attribute using Groovy

    Hi All,
    I was wondering how to use groovy for Tool Tip of a view object attribute.
    What I am basically looking for is return the String from a RowImpl class method and set it as a Tool Tip text.
    my method:
    public String applyToolTip(){
    return "This is my Tool Tip";
    Groovy used for Tool Tip Attribute
    adf.object.applyToolTip()
    also tried with,
    adf.object.viewObject.applyToolTip()
    None of them work. Also I tried writing the same method in VOImpl class. No luck.. Please help with explanation.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Groovy is not used throughout ADF BC. It can be used in validation and to define default values to an attribute but not for UI hints. For tool tips you would use message bundles (assuming your question is towards internationalization). Tool tips are defined on the AttributeDef of a View Object attribute and thus not defined per VO instance.

    all tool icons are gone from safari and apple mail tool bars. Tool tips works when you hover over the box with the missing icons. Macbook pro  OS X 10.8.4
    The boxes that the icons were in are still there, but no icons

    Hello jo90733,
    I would recommend reinstalling Mountain Lion to replace the missing/damaged components of these applications. While the process shouldn't affect any data (images, music, etc) you have on the system, it's always a good idea to have a backup in place prior to reinstalling.
    OS X Mountain Lion: Back up your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11371
    OS X Mountain Lion: Reinstall OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10763
    Important: You need to be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.
    Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
    If you’re not connected to the Internet, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu (in the top-right corner of the screen).
    Select Reinstall OS X, and then click Continue.
    Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk (in most cases, it is the only one available).
    To start the installation, click Install.
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • Once clear Triggers in Tool Tips, now showing white in IE, after newest update?

    I had published on catalyst, and tool tips were clear... after newest Muse udpate the tool tips triggers are now showing as solid white in Explorer. They still look and work fine on my Mac in
    both Firefox and Safari.
    I cannot go in and access the triggers anymore because they are clear - and there is no frame or way to edit!
    1. what is going on with the white boxes now showing.
    2. how would I make a change/move/add to a trigger in tool tips once they are 'filled clear'?

    1. If you can post a link it would make it easier for team/forum to help out.
    2. Yes that does suck and we've all done it. The standard workaround when going for a clear/no fill look is to set the opacity to 1% with a color that matches what's beneath it.  Doing so ensures that it is editable after the fact using the standard click method. The good news is you can get it back, but it often takes a neurosurgeons touch and patience.
      The program is nano sensitive in this state, in my experience. So find the area with your 'missing/non responsive' trigger and very carefully hover the mouse around in micro increments until the trigger is dicovered. Then very carefully click on the dark orange bounding box until you get the blue bounding box. (Note-The cursor must be in the  arrowhead state to get this to work. Not the arrow with the tiny black box and not the arrow with the stem. Just the arrowhead). Once you've rediscovered your trigger (blue  bounding box) do not click again or else you'll have to start this all over. You will now notice at the top left in your menu that the trigger is selected and you can change the  fill from there using the 1% workaround. One other trick to help fascilitate the process-zoom in.
    Keep this in mind for all elements in Muse when going for the invisible look.
    Hope that helps at least one of your glitches.

  • How can I turn off the yellow pop-up tool tips?

    Howdy,
    I have searched high and low in the preferences and found nothing that does the trick. How can I turn off the yellow pop-up tool tips?
    See attached screen shot. They are incredibly annoying. It's probably obvious, but I cannot find it anywhere on internets or this forum.
    Thanks!

    Thanks Nancy. Unfortunately that doesn't do it. I turned those off awhile back. Nor can I find anything under VIEW that seems to make a difference.  Just FYI: I'm on a Mac OS w/Dreamweaver CS6 - but this has happened on previous versions of DW. Thanks again.

  • I would like to see the actual email address in a Tool Tip when I mouse over the From address

    I use Thunderbird to access my IMAP email account with a non-enormous ISP. Thunderbird is a great email client.
    One thing I really miss when using Thunderbird vs. going to my email using a browser: in the browser, when I mouse over the From email address, a tool tip pops up showing me the actual email address, not the alias (or whatever it's called). Please see the attached image for an example of the mouse over tool tip. Is there a way to do this in Thunderbird?

    more misinformation and urban myths here than facts.
    1. Thunderbird blocks remote images by default.
    2. Thunderbird does not allow scripts in mail. If they are there they do not run.
    3. The only link SPAMMERS or anybody in marketing gets to you is when you download their remote images, run scripts in the mail or click on links to go to their web sites.
    4. When I or a spammer send a mail to say [email protected] Most mail servers will refuse delivery unless the address exists on their server.
    5. True spammers do not care if a large percentage of the mail they send is to dead email addresses and they make little or no effort to validate active addresses. Corporations like Walmart, Woolworths here in Australia, Ebay and Paypal are very interested.
    With that knowledge, you are now aware that opening the mail tells a spammer nothing even in the remote chance they are interested.
    Oh and the source of the urban myth is Microsoft whose mail clients allow scripting, remote images and uses the file extension of the file not it's mime type to determine how to open it.
    That is the difference between a mail client where the developers think security first and one where the developers give the user what they want and try to tack on security after the fact.
