Toolbar - rgb percentages to rgb level readouts?

The reading in the toolbar ... as one passes the cursor over the image ... shows the corresponding pixel values in RGB percentages.
This is meaningless to me, and worse, useless.
What I need are the rgb level readings, as in ACR or any other program.
How do I change to those? I can find no info on this yet in my searches.
Neil

Thanks, Don...
I found that thread just after posting this one.
I am rather surprised they decided NOT to do something they and every other raw converter designer has done ... let the user choose an output space and give the levels for that output space. Otherwise, as they have chosen to do, their "output" file is useless as a final product. You have to check it in something else, and adjust further, before sending to a lab.
With that as their final deal, this is a clunker of a program for my useage. We do all our adjusting of color/contrast/density and send to our lab with the express instructions they NOT apply anything to the files. Just print precisely as received, no color or density changes. I was expecting to be able to do this to all files, whether the raw's from my D200 or my wife's S3 jpegs. Yea, one program would handle all our "developing" needs.
Oh contraire ... do 'em here then open them in Photoshop also. How studid is that?
I hadn't even checked for this before buying the program because I had never seen ANYONE ... including Adobe ... say something so technic-geek stupid.
OF COURSE the levels would not mean anything unless you had a chosen output space. WHICH IS WHY THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE WORKFLOW. Choosing your output space is ALWAYS one of the setup options.
Sorry, I don't often do all caps but this has me really steamed.

  • Proper Level Readout

    Hi,
    I am wondering what the level meter (light) should look like when a proper signal level has been set. I thought it should go about 3/4 of the way up just below were it turns yellow. However I was watching one of Apples GB video tutorials and noticed that their levels meter was green and only going a little over 1/4 of the way up the meter. Is this enough of a signal to record at?
    I just got a presonus firebox and with the output signal almost as strong as I can get it (guitar direct in, mic direct in, & drum machine line in), lights up green a little less than half way up the meter. Is this a good enough signal or should it be giving me more?
    Thanks for any info,
    Paul

    In general, I'd suggest not using the Firebox Control app for level control - just use it for routing if necessary, for instance to an external headphone amp. Otherwise, leave its level controls at 0db.
    I've used a Firebox, and I use a Focusrite Saffire daily. In this regard they're very similar - I never touch the levels in the Saffire Control. I usually don't even start it.
    Regarding what the track meters in GB say:
    - on a 'record enabled' track, they show the input level. Use these to set the gain level on external inputs.
    - during playback, they show the actual playback level. If the fader is set to 0db, this level will be the same as it was during recording. During playback, you can ignore the track meters, and, leaving the master output fader at 0db, mix your tracks so the master meter peaks at just below the red.
    I adjust the volume I hear in my speakers and headphones using the knobs on the audio interface.

  • What are the ranges for correct skin tones using RGB%?

    What are the ranges for correct skin tones using RGB%?  Used to using a scale from 0 to 255.  But with LR it's RGB  , I know 100% RGB is white.  What do you use for %?

    While I whole heartedly agree that we should not be constrained to hard and fast numbers for accurate skin tones ... LR does offer an RGB color readout ... I am assuming they made those percentages available for the user to monitor the breakdown of specific color values for a reason ... so we could have an indication of how a specific color in an image will be reproduced ...
    I liken this to using a speedometer ... while many experienced drivers in well tuned vehicles can travel on the highway at the prescribed legal speed limit without really monitoring the readout on the dashboard ... however, there are times when they would like to verify the speed at which they are traveling ... the RGB color percentage readout in LR is no different ... just a source of information to verify you are achieving what you desire ...
    Again, going by specific numbers in this instance, I believe, could lead to problems ... there may be times when you may desire or actually need to adjust skin tones ... even though a pleasing WB has been achieved ... the relationship of R, G and B can be used to get you there.
    From what I have researched and put into practice with LR the following seems to be a good starting point and the data was borrowed from "the pixelation" blog:
    R: highest %
    G: middle %
    B: lowest %
    To get a little more specific. In general,
    R: Y + (15-20)
    G: average of R and B
    B: R – (15-20)
    For example, the following values represent common Caucasian skin tones using the rules above:
    * R: 80%; G: 70%; B: 60%. R is 20 points higher than B, and G is midway between R and B. That’s perfect.
    *  R: 86%, G: 78%; B: 70% also reflects a nicely balanced skin tone.  Again, G is midway between R and B, and R is 16 points higher than B. This, too, illustrates a great relationship among the colors.

  • Video levels question

    Hello,
    As a new Premiere CS6 user I'm a bit confused about the way it handles video levels when compared to Sony Vegas.
    In Sony Vegas I'm used to 16 RGB being video black (0 IRE) and 235 RGB being video white (100 IRE).  This is what I understand as studio levels which is the range most professional video cameras like my EX1 record in when properly exposed. During editing if I design a graphic either in Photoshop or Sony Vegas I input 16 RGB for pure black and 235 RGB for pure white.  This graphic will display between 0-100IRE on the waveform monitor.  I keep my entire color correction workflow within this range (16-235 RGB / 0-100 IRE) and the resulting videos look proper on youtube (since the youtube player stretches the video out to full RGB levels during playback) and DVDs since the player seems to also expect studio levels (16-235 RGB).
    In Premiere however certain things appear to work differently.  Video seems to be handled in the same way as in Sony Vegas.  I came to this conclusion by comparing the same EX1 clip in both programs and it displayed identical on the waveform monitors. However when I create a graphic in Photoshop or using the Premiere titler or solid color I find that I must use 0 RGB to get 0 IRE and 255 RGB to get 100 IRE on the Premiere waveform monitor.
    So my question is should I create a white graphic as 235,235,235 or 255,255,255?  Is Premiere actually converting my graphics to legal video levels automatically or is it just showing up falsely in the waveform monitor?  Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware during exporting to stay in the legal video range of 16-235 RGB?
    Also will there be video level differences on output when using native YUV effects vs. RGB effects like Colorista and Looks?
    Many thanks,  Marc

    Ok, I think I figured it out.  When I bring a full range (0-255) RGB photo or graphic into Premiere it maps the image to studio levels (16-235) automatically.  In Sony Vegas it does not so you end up with superwhites and superblacks and have to do it manually.  In Sony Vegas even the default video background (if you fade to black) is superblack so you have to put a solid color and set it to 16,16,16 RGB in order to stay within the studio Levels legal range.  You have to be really careful about levels or they will be illegal and cause problems downstream.
    When I make a graphic in Premiere I no longer need to worry about the graphic being 16-235 (studio levels) as I do in Sony Vegas.  Premiere considers black as 0 RGB and white as 255 RGB.  On output everything will be studio levels.  I tested an upload of a H264 file exported from Premiere which had a white background of 235,235,235 and it was not full white on youtube.  If I do the same from Sony Vegas it would be fully white.
    Hopefully this will help someone in the future who migrates over to Premiere from Vegas or vice versa.    I prefer the way Premiere handles things.

  • Levels setup window bug?

    Is it just me or is there a bug in the Levels effect? When I select red, green or blue from the dropdown list ( in setup window .. ) I'm still stuck on RGB levels. I can only change the colors in effect control panel.

    You might provide details... Windows version, PPro version, hardware and driver list (such as ATI/nVidia model and driver version)

  • When trying to click between red, blue and green in levels, the menu does not stay dropped down so that i can click on them

    I go to  New Levels > Levels> RGB> (red, blue, green).. the mouse won't click on red, blue, green, and levels keeps reverting back to just the RGB levels. I have the full version, I just installed on a new computer, and input the serial number without problems at install. Very dissapointed as I can't edit anything without doing simple levels editing. • SBO - Approval Procedures at row level

    Does anyone know how to create an approval procedure that is triggered by a row field. For example if I want an approval procedure that verifies discount percentage in row level.
    There must be a workaround, cause I know this is not a functionality in SBO.
    Thanks,
    Hernán Baudrit

    The way you could solve this is to create a UDF at Header level and link a formatted search which loops through the number of rows in the transaction and returns TRUE if for example the Discount % is greater than allowed.
    The coding should be something as follows:
    Declare @Counter as integer
    Set @Couter = 0
    Declare @TempTable TABLE (STAT varchar(50)) -- Temporary table holding results of loop
    Declare @LoopFor as integer
    Set @LoopFor = (select (*) from (select T1.DocEntry
                                                              from INV1 T0 join OINV T1 on T0.DocEntry = T1.DocEntry
                                                                      where T0.DocNum = $[OINV.DocNum])
    While @Counter < @LoopFor
    BEGIN
          Declare @Disc as integer
           Set @Disc = ( select T1.DiscPrcnt
                                            from INV1 T0 join OINV T1 on T0.DocEntry = T1.DocEntry
                                                       where T0.DocNum = $[OINV.DocNum]) and T1.LineNum = @Counter
         IF @Disc > 20
         BEGIN
                  INSERT @TempTable VALUES ('TRUE')
         END ELSE INSERT @TempTable VALUES ('FALSE')
    @Counter = @Counter + 1
    END
    SELECT Distinct 'TRUE' from @TempTable where STAT = 'TRUE'
    Please note that the coding is not 100% accurate but should give you an idea of how to work around the problem.
    Next you should write a simple validation query on the value of the UDF to check whether it is set to 'True'.
    I hope this helps.

  • Group by hour and get percentage of value on a particular

    Hi All,
    Oracle 11g
    create table test_table_2 ( time_log TIMESTAMP(6), status number, names varchar2(500) );
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'7'hour ,1,'FN:Will,LN:Smith');
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'7'hour ,0,'FN:Will,LN:Paul');
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'7'hour ,0,'FN:Will,LN:Liza');
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'7'hour ,0,'FN:Will,LN:June');
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'6'hour ,0,'FN:Ann,LN:Smith');
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'5'hour ,0,'FN:John,LN:Blair');
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'4'hour ,1,'FN:Peter,LN:Lloyd');
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'3'hour ,1,'FN:Sam,LN:Smith');
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'2'hour ,0,'FN:Will,LN:Smith');
    insert into test_table_2 (time_log,status,names) values(systimestamp - INTERVAL'1'hour ,0,'FN:Will,LN:Smith');
    In the above record I want to see the percenatge of status coulmn being 1 for a given hour.
    In other words in the above table
    curtime - 7 should give 25%
    curtime - 6 should give 0%
    curtime - 5 should give 0%
    curtime - 4 should give 100%
    Currently I am doing two queries
    1. grouping by hour for status being 1 and
    2. grouping by hour for status being 0
    and then calculating the percentage on java level.
    I thought it will be lot simpler if it can be done in one shot in sql itself.
    Appreciate your help with this.

  • Percentage calculation on query designer (7.0)

    Hi experts,
    I´m new on Query designer (7.0) and I´m trying to do a finnancial report, so for the lines I create and structure  using G/L accounts and in the columns I got the amount for each level in my structure for a month. Now I´m trying to create an Integration percentage, it specifies how high the percentage in a level is in relation to next higher level but so far I couldn't make it...
    My report must seem like this:
    Structure.............................Amount ...... Int %
    1. Assets................................1000  ....... 100%
    1.1 Current assets....................  600  .......  60%    -> (600/1000)*100
    - Cash.............................  300  ........  50%    -> (300/600)*100
    - Inventories.....................  300  ........  50%    -> (300/600)*100
    1.2 Long-term assets................ 400  .......  40%    -> (400/1000)*100
    - Property, plant and eq..... 150  .......  37.5%  -> (150/400)*100
    - Investment property......... 150  .......  37.5%  -> (150/400)*100
    - Intangible assets..............100  .......  25%    -> (100/400)*100
    I try to use each Percentage calculation options (%, %A, %CT,%GT, %RT) but it didn't work. Can anyone help me in creating a formula to get this percentage?
    Thanks

  • What is precompute and why do i have to disable my levels

    Hi could u folks kindly tell me what precompute in aggregation section of a cube exactly does ?? why does my cube only work when i deselct my level from there???

    For 11g cubes in OWB I think there is a bug which sets both the precompute percentage AND the levels - that's why you see that when you uncheck the levels it works.
    Level based precompute was the old way of doing the precompute. Cost based is the new way specified with the cost based percentage configuration option on the cube.
    Precompute is calculating summaries in the cube so that adhoc query time will be fast.

  • Percentage Variance calculation problem

    Hi experts,
    I have report with following scenarios:
    <h3>Account Name---ActualBudget---Variance --Variance Percentage </h3>
    Account Level 1______3400_______5200____-1800______________X
    -Account Level 2______2200_______4200_____-2000______________XX
    --Account Level 3______1000_______2000_____-1000_______________-50
    --Account Level 3______1200_______2200_____-1000_______________-45.45454545
    -Account Level 2______1200_______1000_____200________________XX
    This is how the report is now displayed. I have done a Hierarchical Grouping of database field (Field Account). Here the Actual and Budget columsn are the summary fields with "sum" and the Summarize across hierarchy checked.. The formula for Variance Percentage is
    if Budget =0 then 0
    else  ((Variance/Budget)*100)
    Now, all the output is displayed in Group Header. The problem here is the calculation of Variance Percentage of Levels above Level3 i.e. Level 2 and Level 1. Level 2 percentage should be the calculation of (Variance / Budget ) *100 of that Level only i.e. Level2 and same should be the case for Level 1. When I apply the summary field on this column, the percentage calculation is all wrong as the Level 2 will be sum of Level 2 variance percentages which is not correct output.
    I need a solution to this quickly.. if some more clarification is required please reply to this post..
    Thanks

    Don't use a summarized field. Instead create a formula field
    Right Click on the formula field which will be there in your Field Explorer --> Select New --> Provide the name for your formula field in the text box shown
    and put the condition there like
    if {test.Budget} =0 then 0
    else  (({test.Variance}/{test.Budget})*100)
    Once formula field is created place in the desired location where you need to show the Variance Percentage.
    Hope this helps!

  • Color palette problems using Toolbar and ImageList ActiveX Controls

    I'm using Toolbar and ImageList ActiveX controls to implement toolbar functionality in a top-level VI.
    I designed the icons used in the toolbar with a 256 color palette. When I initially added the icon images to the ImageList control and ran the VI, the icons were properly displayed in the toolbar, as expected. After saving VI, exiting LabVIEW, and reloading, it appears that a different palette has been applied to the images in the ImageList control. I'm attaching a screenshot of the problem as well.
    Has anyone encountered this type of problem before? Any suggestions you provide will be greatly appreciated.

  • Editing EPS files in Pages

    Apart from the programs that come with Mountain Lion, I have Pages and Paintbrush.  Is there any program (Pages, preferrably) I can use to edit an EPS.  I purchased an EPS image, am looking to delete the part of the image that says "Your Text Here" and would prefer to do it with one of my existing programs, if possible.
    Thanks for your help.

    To set a column colour to a specific numeric value, first click on one of the columns to select it. Then go to the Graphic Inspector palette, and select "Color Fill" from the Fill dropdown menu if it is not already selected. Then, click the colored square just below the menu to bring up the Colors palette. At the top of the palette is a horizontal row of icons (if not, click the small lozenge at the upper right to reveal these icons). Choose the icon with the two horizontal sliders (the tooltip will label this "Color Sliders". This palette is where you can enter numeric values for colours, and select different colour spaces (HSB, RGB, CMYK, Grayscale). You will have to convert from hex to either percentage or 256 levels, depending on the palette, but this is relatively straightforward.

  • Rich black and pure white opacity overlays...

    Hey guys,
    I'm trying to design a business card that uses a subtle radial gradient from rich black (100, 40, 100, 40) to dark grey. Something like this actually:
    http://s3.envato.com/files/156075.jpg
    Anyways, I'm doint the gradient in photoshop because I figure the gradient will be smoother than doing it natively in Illustrator or Indesign. Anyways, when create the gradient, the dark grey appears redish because of the multi ink in the black. When I create in in RGB using a 0, 0, 0 value for black, and 230, 230, 230 value for the grey, it obviously renders fine. When I convert that RGB to CMYK, it still looks great. I rounded up the CMYK values that had decimals, and it looks good.
    Is this really bad practice to achieve a CMYK gradient? I imagine it is, but it's only going to an online digital printer. Just curious what you're thoughts are on this workflow.

    I think you are over complicating your workflow and relying too much on how the gradient is rendered on-screen.  The final determinator is the output device and how it is "printed", which involves  the RIP, haltone screen frequency, press, and paper.  The techology is very sophisticated and really makes full use of your understanding and expectations, not as a consumer, but of a professional.  I see absolutely no reason for generating the gradient in Photoshop and bouncing to and from RGB.  The bitmap is actually going to limit your file's effectiveness.  And, I see no reason why a gradient will display with a mid or low end color cast if it is built properly.  That could be your display and/or the file's preview.  Your sample exhibits a very subtle "Gray-to-Gray" blend, so I wonder if you'd consider lower numbers of your gradient's start ( i.e., 60C, 24M, 60Y, 24K ) and end with 6C, 2.4M, 6Y, 2.4K.  Also, because you are using 100C, 40M, 100Y, and 40K, your so-called "Rich Black" is going to print on the warm side and is not balanced in order to print neutral.  So, it could be that, as you ramp down from your original 100C, 24M, 100Y, 40K, the mids and highlights could render as brown or reddish brown.  A good way to check these numbers and how they print is to get an actual print ( book ) of process color percentages in different levels.  Check sites like publishingperfection.com for reference process color books.  That way, you can have more confidence in your percentages and actually see how they print using different percentage scales.  Now, you did reach your final destination whereas you got what appears to be acceptable color.  So, please share what your final percentages are and how the deviate from your original.
