Toolbars in Reader 8

I have developed a Reader-enabled plug-in that includes a custom toolbar. The toolbar appears and works fine in Reader 7 (and earlier), as well as Acrobat 8, but does not show up under Reader 8. The plug-in is loading and functional, as the menu items I also add are present and functional. The toolbar shows up in the list of "More Tools..." under Reader 8, but when I check it, the toolbar does not appear and Reader does not retain the checked state - the next time I open the "More Tools..." dialog, my toolbar's entry is not checked. I checked obvious things, like positioning relative to a non-existant toolbar (this was a potential problem in my original code, but changing to "File" did not correct the problem). I cannot find anything in the SDK documentation or Reader preferences that would explain the problem. What's different in Reader 8 and how can I get my toolbar to be selectable and appear? What am I missing?
Thanks in advance,
Mark Cleveland

Thanks, Leonard. I will submit the issue through formal developer support channels. (Could I possibly have found an actual bug? No, that's just couldn't be...) :-)
Acrobat/Reader 9 are already on the list to test...just waiting on the final release of Reader 9. (Any idea when that will be available, if you can say?) I was somewhat surprised to find that it was not yet available.

Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.
Hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. <br />
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.

  • Stamps to top toolbar in Reader X?

Can anyone tell me how to pin 'stamps' to the top toolbar in Reader X, please? I don't want it on the right of the page taking up lots of document space!
    Thanks in advance.

In Adobe Reader X, you can't.
Reader only displays the stamps tool when the Extended Pane is active, and you can't add any of those items to the system toolbar. Reader X doesn't have a Quick Tools area like Acrobat does.

I would bet a corrupted preference file could be at the root of the
problem. Log on as a different user. If it works then its a preference

  • Need to set Custom Toolbar in Reader 9 when viewed in IE7

I'm deploying Reader 9.4 to XP SP3 workstations.  Using the Customization Wizard I was able to drag down registry keys that turned on the Select Tool and the Hand tool however these do not show up when viewing PDF's in IE7.  So on my test machine I open a PDF in IE7, right-click the PDF bar at the top of the PDF (not the IE toolbar) and can select the tools I want to add.  The Select tool and the Hand tool.  Fine.  Now that workstation has those tools forever.  Now for the rest of my 5000 deployments, I need to know where I can customize my deployment to do that?  I can't seem to find a registry entry that the Wizard lets me drag down.  I even dragged the entire HKey_Current_User\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0 registry structure.  Still no joy.
Anyone know how I can turn on these two tools as a deployment customization for viewing PDF's in IE7?
    thanks,
    Marc

This is not a scripting question. The solution needs to be in the custom
application you're using to create the PDF files.
The "Keywords" field is just a part of the document metadata, which any PDF
library should be able to edit.

  • Problems with enabling commenting toolbar on Reader 7

I have extended the commenting rights for a pdf with extensions server. I am running the evaluation version of extensions server. When I open the reader extended pdf inside the browser, it doesn't show up the commenting toolbar only in Reader 7. But if I open the same pdf in the local reader application, the commenting toolbar shows up. I am having hard time figuring out the issue. Does have any insight. Now this all works fine online, offline in Adobe 6. Reader 7 browser plugin has the problem.
One more thing. I installed Acrobat professional to just see if the commenting toolbar is enabled and I get this message after I click on the status at left bottom:
"This document restricts some acrobat features to allow for extendedfeatures in Adobe Reader. To create a copy of file document that is not restricted (and has not extended features in Adone Reader), choose File > Save a Copy."
    Any idea????

    Hi Sachin,
Just run into a solution. You should upgrage to Reader Extensions v7.0.2 for this to work. Read the section
"Enabling commenting in a PDF document rendered in a web browser"
in the ReadMe.htm file that accompanies Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions Version 7.0.2
The procedure described lets you enable Adobe Reader 7.0 and later to allow commenting when the PDF document is rendered in a web browser, similar to Adobe Reader 6.0.

  • How do I add buttons to the toolbar in Reader?

En Adobe Reader, ¿Como puedo agregar botones a la barra de herramientas? Ya que pierdo mucho tiempo utilizando el botón derecho del mause y buscar los botones en las ventanas emergentes.
    Muchas gracias

    Hi richarddaniel1111,
To add buttons to the toolbar, do this:
    Choose View > Show/Hide > Toolbar items.
Choose an option from the submenu (File, Edit, Comment, and so on).
Choose the tool that you want to add to the toolbar.
    Hope that helps!

  • Hiding the floating toolbar acrobat reader x

    Hello
We have developed software that displays pdf documents on the screen for validation by the user before printing. We need to be able to manage the "print" action within our software and with the new floating toolbar this has become impossible. I can find no trace anywhere on the net of how to display documents without the floating toolbar other thn by configuring each of our client installations which is not an option.
    Can anyone help ?
    Many thanks

    Hi Dave
Thank you very much for such a prompt and courteous reply.
My enquiry was prompted by our having to revisit a range of products we
developed using Adobe Director and the INM Impressario Xtra. We are very
excited by the potential of AIR, Acrobat X Portfolios and Flash Builder but
rather shame-faced for having come to them rather late. No matter, better
    late than never.
Your explanation is very helpful as it will help us offer explanations to
our clients. I am sure they can be persuaded given the larger benefits.
    Yours
    Ian

  • Hiding Toolbar from Reader

Does anyone know how to remove/hide the tool bar from user when they open a PDF document ?
I want to prevent the user from Printing to a file, or to save the file ...
    Thx

    Hi Michael,
Thx for the feedback. Actually i want to block the user from doing anything except read the PDF. No printing, saving, etc... I can block all the right click, and key short cut thru GPO.
This article is showing how to remove the tool bar.

Does this really work - by just placing some JS inside the Reader folder ?  Am i missing something ?

I find that I use the Home button quite a bit but it is an undistinguished mid-gray color and it would be much easier to pick out quickly if it were, say, red. How could I do that?

  • Why can't I print a document from a website using Adobe reader?

Adobe has been bugging me to update to latest version, so I finally did (got so sick of it popping up all the time on my screen).  Now that I have, I can't print out anything off a website.  It keeps saying, "Document cannot be printed" or something like that - and then it tells me that no document is selected, yet it clearly is selected.  Anyone know what's going on?

What is your operating system & version?
    What is your web browser?
What is your Adobe Reader version?
How do you print - from the browser's print function, or from the Reader toolbar?
