Tools flyout menus out of place

Why are the flyout menus for my Tools in the middle of the screen instead of next to the tools? I have tried to find a Preference that I might have inadvertently changed but cannot...
Any help would be appreciated; this is a very annoying behavior.

No more persisting toolbox flyout menus?

This is either a question or a feature request-take your pick: I recall that, in AI CS3, if I opened the toolbox flyouts so that I could see all the sub-tools besides just the rerpresentative toolbox icons, that state would persist as a preference, into the future, until I changed it-i.e., every time I started up AI CS3 I would have the flyout menus out and ready to hand. But not any more. In CS5, it seems, I have to open the flyouts every time I start. Is that the case, or am I missing something? There's a lot in CS5 I have to learn since CS3. Is there a setting for this?

Try this
PC
1. Quit Illustrator.
2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/(user)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings folder.
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
Mac
1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
It might be a software that adds functionality to the system as well.

Why Don't All of My Bookmarks Appear in the Bookmark Flyout Menus?

I cannot get all of my bookmarks in various bookmark folders to display when I use the bookmark flyout menus. For instance, I have a bookmark folder titled "Car Sites" which holds various web sites (maybe 15-20) catering to automobiles. These bookmarks are indeed valid and show up when I click Show All Bookmarks to go to the full bookmark "editing suite" tab.
However when using Firefox (V30.0) and using the cursor to use the Bookmarks drop-down flyout menus, some of those valid bookmarks do not appear in the folder flyout menus. Its like the flyout menus are being abridged. When I add a new bookmark to that folder, it appears in the Show All Bookmarks editing screen, but still doesnt appear in the bookmarks flyout menu.
There is plenty of room on my screen to expand the size of the flyout menu and show all of my bookmarks in a folder. Not like I have 500 bookmarks in a folder that span my screen top to bottom and need an arrow for browsing downward.

You can check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Out-of-place upgrade to 11.2.0.4 (from 11.2.0.3); how does it affect certain items?

I've never done a db patch set update, and from what I've read today, I will need to do a full installation of 11.2.0.4 to have this patch set applied.
This sounds scary and being a rookie Oracle DBA, what does this mean to my existing Oracle Database installation (Oracle 11GR2 on Windows Server 2008R2)?
If I do an out-of-place upgrade (Oracle recommended), and create a new home, what will happen to the existing schemas/etc?
My application is configured to connect to SERVERA, SID=123 so when I install a new home, etc, does this change anything? I've read I need to modify the tnsnames files in my new home to be similar to my current tnsnames file..
Basically, I want to upgrade to patchset 11.2.0.4 b/c it's supposed to address a bug I have, but I want to be able to keep the 'settings' the same for the end users/applications (SERVERA, SID=123).

You have to remember that the database software/binaries are separate from the database itself. Typically, you first install the software (like you did for 11.2.0.3) and then create a database. Best practice states that the location of the database files should be outside/different then the location of the binaries.
When you install your new 11.2.0.4 in a new location, that is all that you are doing - the install does not affect the existing database. Once the 11.2.0.4 software is installed, you can upgrade the database by following the steps in the upgrade guide (the database files stay where they are, but the database gets upgraded from 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4) and when the upgrade is completed successfully, the old (11.2.0.3) binaries can be de-installed at leisure.

In addition the tool Icons are so small I have to get close to the screen to see them, is there anyway the Icons can be made bigger without reducing the resolution of the screen.

Are you working on a background layer? If so, Ctrl + T will not work. Press Alt and double-click your background layer to convert to a normal layer (or right-click BG layer and select Layer from Background) and try again.
If you're working in Photoshop CC 2014 you can go to Preferences > Experimental Features and tick "Scale UI 200% for high-density displays" to make your buttons and icons larger.

Double-clicking does not bring up any of the Tools options menus

I'm on my first lesson in Illustrator (CS5), never having used any Adobe graphics programs before, and I have somehow lost the ability to double-click and bring up any Tools options menus.For instance, if I double-click the scale tool,nothing happens. This is after I have (I believe) already selected the shape with the selector-arrow-tool and clicked on the shape. Any help for this would be greatly appreciated as I am at a complete standstill.

I read your links and made sure everything like the edges and the bounding box were unhid, but that did not solve the problem. I get a plus sign when I select the scaling tool in CS5 and I am supposed to get a menu where I can select a "scale to 50%" option - according to the CS4 book.
I have not yet tried your suggestion #1 of closing down AI and command/option/shift during startup because I am unsure if you mean "startup" AI or "startup" the entire computer.
I'm not sure if you wanted me to reinstall the entire suite, which I don't really want to do. It is my very first day using a brand new CS5 install and my first day ever attempting to do anything on anything, plus I have a brand new computer with lots of capacity.
Is there some kind of difficulty with having other apps open while working in Adobe? If so, that might be it.
Any further advice will be greatly appreciated!

Audio out of place when transferring iMovie to iDVD

I've made a movie in iMovie 09 that runs just how I want it to in iMovie. However when I transfer it (via sharing with the media browser) to iDVD and preview it (or watch the film on a burnt DVD) towards the end of the movie the audio from the final 6 or 7 clips is played about 45 seconds before the clips themselves occur. The audio also then plays (correctly) with the clip. I have tried detaching the audio from these clips, as some forums seem to suggest but it still turns up in the incorrect place (before the clips themselves). I have tried deleting and reintroducing the offending clips but am wondering if I could have somehow copied and placed the audio to these clips at the wrong place on the project timeline - and for some reason can't see it?
It's a 23 minute movie that is now ruined by out of place audio right at the end so any help much appreciated.
I'm using: iMovie '09 version 8.0.6 and iDVD 7.1.2 on a Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core i5, OSX version 10.9.4

Are you able to exert the movie to the Desktop and play it with Quicktime Player with all audio OK? What format are the audio clips. Some report best results with AIFF.
iDVD has a bug that if any of the video media is edited after having been added to the project the resulting DVD is compromised. Therefore try creating a new project entirely.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

I just installed Acrobat 9 Pro and am trying to use the pdf portfolio feature. All of my comments tools are greyed out. I have checked te security settings and they are set to allow comments. What am I doing wrong?

You are correct.
i was confusing select an object with select tool for text and graphics. they look identical.
i always thought it would be a good idea to have some type of explanation that appeared in front of a grayed out option, so the user could understand why it is grayed out

Document for Out of Place Upgrade of ebs database

Hi,
Can someone point out to me a document which gives steps for out of place upgrade of ebs 12.1.3 database from 11.1.0 to 11.2.0.3 ? I tried it myself and it went well but I am still not sure whether something is still missing because there are still 346 invalid objects in the db. Here are the steps I have followed:
On the source:
   Run adpreclone
2.       Run utlu112i.sql (copy it from the 11.2.0 home)
          Act on the recommendations of utlu112i.sql.
          Backup the source db and the apps folder
          Copy the backup to the target server.
6.       Copy pfile.
7.
On the target:
     install the 11.2.0.3 software
     apply required patches
             Restore and recover the database.
             run catupgrd.sql
             run catuppst.sql;
             run utlrp.sql;
             run dbupgdiag.sql
             run adconfig.sh contextfile=<contextfile> at db tier.
             Shut down listener and database and restart to load the new env.
             restored apps folder (backup of source)
             run adcfgclone.pl appsTier
             run autoconfig.

BTW, with respect to your invalid objects did you try recompiling the objects using:

Currently we have OBIEE 11.1.1.6 instance on Linux machine and want to upgrade this to OBIEE 11.1.1.7. We have installed 11.1.1.7 on different Linux machine, we want to upgrade OBIEE 11.1.1.6 to OBIEE 11.1.1.7 using out-of-place only i.e. RPD and Catalog. Tried to upgrade with 11.1.1.7 ua.sh(upgrade assistant) but it saying rpd and catalog already upgraded, could you guys help us with step by step process Out-of-place upgrade.

If your using windows xp and applied the 12.02 update, then this is a known bug in
the update effecting xp users and adobe is working on a fix.

11.1.1.5 out-of-place upgrade how to continue the compositeIds from old env

We are planning to upgrade SOA 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.1.5. Don't want to do an inplace upgrade but want to do out-of-place upgrade i.e. want to install 11.1.1.5 from fresh and move over the composites to new environment so atleast will have a back environment. Have question how can we make sure in 11.1.1.5 we start the composite_ids and instance_ids from where it left off in 11.1.1.3 as we are using those compositeIds and instanceIds in our backend system. So need to make sure when we move over to 11.1.1.5 none of our compositeIds and Instance Ids are repeated. Any idea how to have this done.

To upgrade existing 11.2.0.1 Oracle Grid Infrastructure installations to Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2, you must first do at least one of the following:
* Patch the release 11.2.0.1 Oracle Grid Infrastructure home with the 9413827 and 9706490 patches.
* Install Oracle Grid Infrastructure Patch Set 1 (GI PSU1) or Oracle Grid Infrastructure Patch Set 2 (GI PSU2).
