Tools menu in Portfolio - Acrobat X?

I'm really new to Acrobat Pro X.
When I open a portfolio, the Tools menu is not available.  The only way I can get to it is to open one of the documents.  What I'm actually trying to do is run a javascript against the portfolio itself (to list out the files), and I can't figure out how to do that.  So, I guess I have 2 questions:
1.  Can I get to the tools side menu in a portfolio?
2.  How do I run a javascript against a portfolio?

Hi,
I am sorry to hear that you're having trouble in locating 'Multimedia' tools in Acrobat.
Acrobat X Standard does not include most of the interactive object tools. You need to use Acrobat X Pro for those features. Kindly check the comparison matrix at:

  • Tool/Menu bar icons not active - Acrobat in BROWSER

I have installed the SP1 update of windows 7.  I have the latest version of Acrobat 10. I also have the latest version EXPLORER (9) & FIRE FOX (4).  The PDF file comes into the BROWSER & the Acrobat icons (print, save) show up on the tool/menu bar but are not active.  The commands are active with the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON.
Also, links to other web sites (URL's) within the PDF document are not active.  ie. Does not LINK.
If I force ACROBAT to open as an independent program everything works OK.

Have you solved this yet?  Perhaps trashing the preference file for the menubar would solve this?  Go to the preferences folder-- /Library/Preferences --and trash this file:
    com.apple.systemuiserver.plist

  • Missing Javascript menu items on Acrobat 9 Standard

I've been trying to get into some more advanced JS coding within Acrobat for forms, and I'm running into a bit of a roadblock in accessing the javascript tools.  Specifically, I keep seeing references to Javascript menu items under the Advanced menu, but my Acrobat doesn't seem to have these at all.  I also can't open the JS Debugger/console with Ctrl-J, but it will open if i put in a syntactically incorrect javascript statement and try to execute it (from a form field, etc).
Anyone have any ideas how to correct this?  I found references online to this being an issue if Acrobat Reader is also installed on the same machine (it was), so i removed that, but the problem persists.  I can enter javascript into an individual field, but i can't add a document-level script at all.
    thanks

Sweet! I got it working.   My function reads in the contents of a range (30+) of combo boxes and text boxes, does a little editing and then sorts, and then puts them back in the same range of boxes but with the blanks filtered out and in alpha order.  I  used a nested array and it worked pretty well.
The only thing i'm still stymied on is that it works perfectly for everything except if the textbox field is a number with a '+' in front of it (like +1 or +2200).  It strips the + sign out, I'm assuming that's because of javascript special characters, but the escape/unescape function did not fix it.  Doesn't matter if there are plus signs in the rest of the field, only at the beginning (and minus signs don't cause the same issue).  I'm going to try manually escaping with quotes before reading into the array I think, but if you have seen this sort of thing before please let me know.

  • How can I extract pages from a PDF? The Tools menu is missing.

I used to be able to extract pages from my PDF file. I don't see the tools icon anymore. How can I access the tools icon?

    Hi lenm,
To extract pages, you need to use Acrobat (not Adobe Reader). As I can attest (because I do have both Reader and Acrobat installed on the same computer), it is quite easy to open files in Reader when you mean to open then in Acrobat. So, please make sure you have the right app open. (I pull this one all the time!)
Now, if the Tools menu is missing from Acrobat, choose View > Show/Hide > Toolbar Items > Show Toolbars to make them reappear.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • "options" is not listed on tools menu

"Options" is not listed on my pull down Tools menu. I am trying to prevent .pdf files from opening in excel and apparently need to access options to do so.

  • TOOLS menu option missing from Adobe X Standard docs when opened in IE10

    Hi,
A few of our users are having issues where any Adobe X document they open in Internet Explorer is missing the Tools menu bar on the top right of the document.
If they open the document in Adobe directly, the Tools menu appears.
It's only when opening in IE that the problem occurs.
Enable third-party applications is checked in Internet Options > Advanced.
I don't have this on my machine - IE displays the Tools menu correctly - so I can only assume it's a plug-in or a setting I'm missing on the users' machines.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers!

Slightly confused - why wouldn't it be available? Is it a limitation of the browser being unable to activate the plug-ins which are part of Adobe Acrobat X Standard? It's just functionality for altering the layouts of PDFs, page numbering, etc. Should be fairly standard?

  • Open Adobe Reader without Tools menu or Fill & Sign menu

    Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 (x64)
    Adobe Reader XI 11.0.10
When I open a PDF file, I often get a menu down the right side of the Adobe Reader window.  Usually, it is the Tools menu; but if the PDF file is a fill-in form, I get the Fill & Sign Tools menu.  Rarely do I need these menus.  Is there an option to launch Adobe Reader without these menus?

We ended up finding a registry key which forces this menu to come up each time:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral]
    “bBrowserDisplayInReadMode”=dword:00000000

  • How to create a menu item under Tools menu using menu-hook in extension.xml

I am able to do it in FILE menu (FILE_MENU_ID) and View menu (VIEW_MENU_ID). But how to do it under "Tools" menu? specifying TOOLS_MENU_ID or MENU_TOOLS in extension.xml menu-hook does not work.
    Thanks
    Sanjiv

That's great. I'd love to jump into j-script and learn all about it, what it can do, what it's limitations are.... But I'm actually just looking to use the program as it functions (or should) out of the box.
This feature was accessible in Acro 8. I don't think that java should be necessary to perform this task. But maybe it is. Is anyone else able to use the "execute menu item" action? Because my build (acrobat 9.0 pro extended)only displays a blank selection dialog.
    Thanks for the reply Geo

  • Firefox hangs if I try to open Options in the Tools menu

When I select Options from the Tools menu this hangs Firefox and any tabs that may be open. I have to End the non responding program through Task Manager.
This happens any/everytime I try to access Options.
This only happens on my laptop, not my PC. It works fine on my PC. I am on Firefox 6.0.2

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    *https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Rather than go to the home page I have specified in the General tab of Options in the Tools menu, Firefox keeps going to a truncated version of this url.

I have used the following URL as my firefox home page for quite some time:
    https://www.google.com/search?num=100&safe=off&hl=en&complete=0&q=Rochester-NY+CDC.gov+|+NIH.gov&btnG=Search
Several months ago, malware of some sort replaced this url with one of their own. I got rid of the malware and put back my original home page, but I'm continuing have a problem: Every time firefox goes to my home page, rather than using the whole url that I've specified, firefox truncates this url to just the first 87 characters, and goes to this truncated url instead:
    https://www.google.com/search?num=100&safe=off&hl=en&complete=0&q=Rochester-NY+CDC.gov+
Not only is this not the url that I have specified in the General tab under Options in the Tools menu, I always get an error message in an additional tab whenever Firefox goes to this truncated version of my home page. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get firefox to use the entire url I have specified as my home page in the General Tab under Options?
I do not know if this is relevant or not, but I noticed that prefs.js includes two other user prefs related to the home page in addition to the one that identifies the url I chose:
    user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "https://www.google.com/search?num=100&safe=off&hl=en&complete=0&q=Rochester-NY+CDC.gov+|+NIH.gov&btnG=Search");
    user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.buildID", "20130617145905");
    user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone", "22.0");

You need to escape the pipe character as %7c if you want to include it in the URL

  • Are these suggestions speficic to the Windows version of Firefox? Because on my Mac version (31.0) there is no "options" in the Tool menu

Are these suggestions speficic to the Windows version of Firefox? Because on my Mac version (31.0) there is no "options" in the Tool menu.
I'm trying to figure out why Firefox has no spellcheck. I suspect it needs dictionaries installed, but it's a bit of a mystery. I had to reste FF as it kept crashing after I updated to V31.0

    Yes Options is for Windows.
On Mac you use "Firefox > Preferences" or the Preferences button in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list.
You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.
*Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
*Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.
You can enable or disable spell checking globally:
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"
You can look here for dictionaries:
Were you able to stop the crashes?

  • Ran Malware ANTI Malware on windows 7 64 bit PC now cannot get my tools menue on home page

I am getting a lot of survay's popping up on my PC so I downloaded the free version of Malware Bytes Anti Malware, it took out my tools menue from my home page and adobe air aswell as HP smart web print along with some other programs, I have most back now, redownloaded windows
photo gallery and movie maker and adobe air but I cannot get my tools menue back or HP smart web print, I do not think smart web print could be a virus as it was downloaded from HP web site.
Using IE 9, can anyone help please.

A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • I have Windows XP. In my tools menu, optons tab the box to make Firefox my default browser is missing. How do I get it back? Thank you.

I can't make Firefox my default browser. I have Windows XP and in the tools menu, options tab that selection is missing

Tools > Options >> '''Advanced''' -> General = at the bottom under System Defaults
BTW, the Firefox 3.5.x versions are supported any longer, you should upgrade to at least 3.6.20 or 6.0. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
