Tools Palette Dropdown Issue

None of the dropdowns on Tools Palette work ex: Type Tool, Pen Tool, Pencil Tool, etc. I cannot get the dropdowns for any of these to appear. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the entire suite - reinstalling each separately - no luck. I'm sure it's something to do with Preferences but I don't want to pay tech support $40 to give me a one line fix. Please help - very frustrating.

There are no "dropdowns" on the tools palette. However, if you click a button and hold for a few seconds, the ones with the little triangles should show the hidden tools in a flyout. Is that not working?
To replace your preferences hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift keys as soon as you launch the program (we're talking milliseconds here) and say yes to the dialog when it asks if you want to replace the prefs. If you don't get asked, you weren't fast enough, and nothing has been changed.

  • Tools Palette issue after updating Photoshop CS5 to version 12.0.2

After updating Photoshop CS5 to version 12.0.2 the Tool Palette is having an issue. Normally when leaving or hovering the mouse cursor on the Tool Palette in Photoshop a small window appears to indicate the name of the Tool and keyboard shortcut. Now this small window shows but the space is blank.
I have uninstalled and re-installed Photoshop CS5 and again updated but this problem still persists. Now I wish that I should not have updated from Photoshop CS5 version 12.0.1. Do any Photoshop CS5 users have seen this bug with their product? Is it possible to downgrade Photoshop CS5 to version 12.0.1?
p.s The Tool-Stack window, when clicking the mouse and holding for a second on the Tool Palette, opens and shows all the corresponding Tools that can be selected and to be used.
I use Windows XP Professional 32 bits as operating software.

This is a known problem with the update, and Adobe is working on it.

  • Tools palette not visible or accessible

I have been using the particular installation of Labiew (V 6.0, under Windows XP) for a long time without the following problem.  All of a sudden, one day, the Tools Palette was not visible, and I was not able to get it back.  Tried, of course, clicking "Window >> Show Tools Palette" but this does nothing.  I can still cycle through some of the tools using the keyboard (Tab and space bar).   Tried cold rebooting -- nothing.  Hopefully, I don't have to reinstall.

Here's something to try...perhaps the Tools palette location got stored in the LabVIEW INI file with some funky location, such that it is showing up, but not within the visible bounds of the screen.  I'm not sure what the INI entry would be, but it's probably something human readable, like "ToolsPalleteLocation="2000,2000".  If you see an entry like that, delete it and restart LabVIEW.  But if you don't see anything immediately obvious, you could close LabVIEW, delete (or rename) your LabVIEW INI file, relaunch LabVIEW, and see if your Tools palette shows up again.  If so, then it's definitely something fishy in your INI file.
Also, I seem to recall from my days long long ago in the AE department that there might be a KnowledgeBase entry, or a previous Dev Exchange post, on this issue.  So if my suggestion is no good, try checking those resources.

  • How to move back the 'Tool Palette' to the upper corner?

Hello, I accidentally performed several mouse-clickings on the 'Tool Palette' in the Layout Editor and then the mentioned palette was placed at the left-handed bottom of my screen, which is very very inconvenient. Would anyone let me know how to restore it to the original position?
P.S. I am using the Oracle Reports 2.5 bundled with Designer/2000.
    Thanks for your replies!

  • How do I remove colors from the Tools Palette

    Hi,
I recently defined two custom colors (blue and green) that were required for our brand representation (I am using Unstructured FM 8). I used the RGB values that Marketing provided to obtain these colors. For some reason, I now have the entire RGB blue and green libraries displayed in my Set Color option of the Tools Palette.
Is there a way to remove these standard RGB libraries while keeping my custom color definitions?
    Thank you,
    Miruna

the »Indexed color efficiencies« came from way back when the Net was a number of very thin electronic pipes connected to each other.
You're replying to someone who recalls full page 300 dpi TIFFs taking 30 minutes just to display for text overlay in Frame 3.1.
It is a long time I heard someone complaining about image files larger than 32k. but of course, FrameMaker should handle them OK!
Frame handles large images with ease. I've generated PostScript files of 1GB. The issue is what size PDF they distill to.
We render to PDF at the same resolutions for both publishing and web (200 dpi contone, 600 bitmap). Multiple dozen large images can easily make a final document PDF that is too large for practical web use. Our general rule is that if a single image adds more than 250 KB to the final PDF,  we take steps.
I often have to deal with dense vector objects that are well over 5MB as raw  EPS. I routinely save a convenience browsing PDF of each image, and if it's over 250K, the image gets attention.
For B&W line art, flattening to 600 dpi dithered bitmap in Photoshop usually suffices, but rasterizing to contone does not, because our workflow passes 600 dpi "bitmap", but subsamples "color" and "gray" to 200 dpi.
I had this one vector-overload externally sourced image where I needed just a touch of one color. I was hoping that indexed color (e.g. GIF) might be the solution, but Distiller downsampled it anyway. Some of the indexed color tests, as I recall, but cannot now re-create, also polluted the color pallete.
The work-around, in case anyone else has the same requirement (hi-res bitmap with color), was:
Open the .ai file in PhotoShop, 600 dpi gray.
Convert to bitmap, 600 dpi, diffusion dither.
    Save as .tif.
Open the original .ai in Illustrator.
Isolate the color elements to the top layer.
Open the .tif bitmap in Illustrator.
Copy the bitmap into a new bottom layer.
Align the bitmap with the vector B&W layers of the same content.
Turn off the vector B&W layers.
    Save the .ai.
    Flatten and save as .eps.
This survives distiller, and provides a bitmap with color.
Don't forget to redact the metadata. It can add MBs all by itself.

  • Toolbars and Tools Palette show color AND grey Icons

    Running FMv12 on Win7.
Both sets of icons are trying to show. However, Toolbars are cut off so only left several icons show, and remaining toolbar is blank all the way to right side of program window. Toolbar separators are shown all the way across, but segments are empty.
At same time, Tools Palette, docked to left side of screen, shows dual set of icons also, but they are jumbled. That is, they are not neatly arranged in two columns, and color or grey set is trying to display on top of the other, slightly offset. As if trying to display two sets of two columns, but overlapped.
    * All above display correctly when FM first starts. Then, when User hovers something to use it, before he clicks, the screen changes as if tooltip timing, going to fail mode described above.  Recovery requires restarting FM.
Also, document zoom, and other controls at bottom, are invisible until mouse hover. User has to hunt to find, and then with hover, controls appear as if tooltip; and then click works normal. Different from 3 above, these controls do not show at FM start/document open.
    What we've tried:
Screen/Display Resolution. Tested high and low settings.
Undocking toolbars, palette, and document window. No effect.
Different combinations of Color/Grey and Large/Normal icon settings in preferences. Settings take affect correctly, but above symptoms still present.
    Any help, please?
    Dave

    [bump/update]
    *Still no fix.
*Answering your last question, no other Apps are acting up. We did shut down SnagIt by TechSmith that was running in SysTray Program Icons. But other Screen Grab Apps, such as Windows Snip Tool, are not running, that we can tell looking at Task Mngr Apps & Processes. But you know how long that processes list can be. And I have no clue about what most of them are. But nothing stands out, even looking at the Description Column.
*So here is what we've tried. I would not know if all this writing may be overkill here in the forums. Someone feel free to say if it is. . . .
User's IT ran windows updates and company/desktop updates to give Drivers a chance to be the problem.
Then they uninstalled and reinstalled FMv12.
In User's AppData maker.ini, I deleted MakerWin and ConsoleWin window position lines, forcing FM to rewrite them.
I replaced his fmtoolbar.xml and fmtoolbar_review.xml files with mine.
*Here is what we will try next.
They will uninstall FMv10, and then reinstall v12 again. I do not expect there are issues between these two versions of FM. Originally, I understood other users there have v10 installed -- but now I find out, only on a second pc!
So they are also planning to put v12 on a separate pc for this user to see if it runs there.
[Interestingly, speaking of interaction between versions: At my own workstation, I had v7 and v9 working. After installing v12, I could not get v9 to start. It began crashing during load. It was intended only for testing a while back, so I simply removed it and all is well; with v7 and v12 installed on this pc.]
I am considering using my menus_xxx.cfg files next. His have significantly different dates that maybe FM is looking at, but cant hurt to try, even though the issue is with Toolbars and not Menus. Unless there is .cfg files for Toolbars.
Anyway, there is an update. While I realize all these details are a ton of reading, I knew you would at least be curious as to status or outcome.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • How can I display the length of the yet unfinished line that a user is drawing in the image using the line tool of the IMAQ tool palette.

Is this really not possible using standard Labview/Vision YI`s?

    Herbert,
I can't find a way to extract the information you want within the program. However, this information is displayed as part of the IMAQ tool palette while the user is drawing the line. The pallette shows the anchor point, the X and Y offsets, and the line length and angle.

  • Can I add a second tools palette in a secondary display for convenience?

Is it possible to add a second tools palette to my workspace for use in a secondary monitor to avoid having to go from one monitor to the ther to change tools. I know about the shortcuts but would still like a second tools palette.

  • Tools palette in tool bar

Hi, I'm a comparative new-comer to LabVIEW so this might have been discussed long ago.  Question: why not have the tools palette along the top, in the tool bar where there is lots of empty space? Even the functions palette for the LabVIEW block diagram and controls palette for the front panel might fit on the tool bar. I find it very annoying having to move these palettes when working on a flowsheet.

LabVIEW isn't a "logging package", but a programming environment. As such it does need a lot of tools available, and I don't think they would fit nicely in the toolbar. If you want the palettes to be more convenient, go to the options menu and select the advanced palette view instead of the express one. You will see now that it's much easier to use the right-click-to-get-palette trick. Most people use high-res (1280x1024 and up), which can also help.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).
Try to take over the world!

  • Missing Tool Palette

Really feel silly asking but . . .
Just upgraded to CS 5.5 from CS3. Can't seem to find the tool palette (slection arrows, type tool, etc.)

    Hi Peter;
When I first installed CS5.5, I set up my Workspace and saved it. Now when I invole it, the tools are still missing.
I'll try your suggestion in my other post.
    Thanks;
    Chris

  • Lost tools palette

The tools palette seems to have gone missing. I've tried de-selecting it then re-slecting it and looking behind the open windows, but i can't seem to see it ...is there a way of setting preferences to how hey were originally?

I thank you..like magic, it returned!

  • My tools palette has disappeared

To say I am a novice at InDesign would be to insult most novices.  But I do put out a decent product knowing just what I need to know and bumbling my way through the rest.
So today I am working and suddenly my tools palette disappears.  I closed the program, waited a bit, and then restarted it.  It is still missing.  I rebooted my maching (Win7).  No tools palette.  I went back to another project hoping I did something on this project that made it disappear and it would show up elsewhere.  Nope.
I though that maybe it was just missing from my screen so I made the screen smaller (seeing lots of pages) hoping it had slid all the way to the left.  Nope.
Nothing I do seems to bring it back.  Of course I first went into Windows and there it was checked.  I unchecked it and shut down.  Started up again and it had remained unchecked.  I checked it and my page shifted a bit to the right but still no tolls palette.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Kathie

I might just have the solution or part of a solution. My work just upgraded to version CS4. When I opened InDesign, I had the same problem where I could not find the tools palette. I opened a file created in an older version which opened without a glitch. What I discovered is when the window for this file opened it "snapped" into a frame that covered over the palette. I kept checking and unchecking the "tools" under the Window menu to no avail until I resized my current document's window and ta-dah! There is was...
I'm curious, for those using CS4 for the first time, does opening a document hide your tools palette? After I got the palette back, I closed out of the document to check if it will hide the palette again but it didn't. I did re-size the window so it may have "remembered" what size it should be... Anyway, I hope it helps somebody....

  • Illustrator CS4 The hidden tools palette

For some reason when I hold down the right hand side on my mouse pad to access the hidden tools in the tools palette in illustrator, it shows the alternative tools but wont let me switch to them eg I hold down the right hand pad and can see the smooth tool underneath the pencil but I cant switch tools.
It certainly has worked in the past but appears to have stopped working any ideas?

Are you perhaps thinking about Photoshop instead of AI ?
In any case, just try doing the same using the left mouse button.

  • Folio Builder tool palette: Cannot sign in.

    Help Please???
In Indesign CS and CC:  When I select 'Sign In' in the Folio Builder tool palette, the App manager will launch then I sign in with my credentials.  Then app manager simply quits.  tried this many times with same result in CS and CC.  Have also tried this and it corrupted my InDesing (meaning InDesigned prompted a window that the InDesign application has been dammaged):  Deleted the following file... /Users/{username}/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE and then restart Indesign?
