Tools to see "what happens" in oracle 9.2.0.1

need a basic tool to se what the database is doing, we have IFS Applications system,and it loads the database severly,using 70 % of cpu time all the time,and they have no godd tyool to see what is happening, i can olny see through the enterprise manager console the active sessions, but not what they really doing.
I hope someone understand my bad explanation.

We have a similar problem with another business software system. To gather some stats and to "chart down" the many programs that puts load on the database, we created a logoff trigger that captures v$ stats. This enables us to collect program names and LIO, cpu and other resource consumption: a great way to spot the biggest culprits (e.g. badly coded batch programs) and know what to circle in on next...

What happened to Oracle by Example?

What happened to the Oracle By Example Section of OTN? This was a great tutorial which showed how to set up the Oracle database, Application Server etc. It also had case studies showing how to use different features of the database. I was using it as recently as two months ago, but now I can't find it anywhere.
Was it removed?

What happened to Oracle Workshop for Weblogic?

I just installed a more recent version the Oracle OSB (wls1033_oepe111150_win32.exe) but i can't seem to find the Oracle Workshop for Weblogic anymore in this install. I do find the Oracle Enteprise Pack for Eclipe but when i open it there is no Oracle Service Bus perspective nor can i create a new Oracle Service Bus project. Do i have to install something more?

How can I watch for an alarm, then wait to see what happens before the save?

I have resurrected an old project, thus using outdated software (LV6.0.2)... any help is awesome.
I am attempting to gather strain gage information on a piece of equipment. Ideally, when the strain gage level reaches a certain point, I would like to cause an alarm that alerts the user, gathers data for an additional xx seconds, then dumps all this information into a file. Thus saving the information leading up to the event, and the system response following.
Though I haven't figured out how to preset the file name, (working on that), my current hurdle is figuring out how to get LV to continue saving data after the initial alarm. I can dump the information directly to a file, but its the continuation that stumps me.
Any help is good help.

Due to my extensive self-taught knowledge of LV, simplified versions are all I can currently create. At the moment, I am trying to gather concepts for later final assembly, as I am an electrical engineering student working at an internship where I am the only EE on staff. Final Assembly date is early Sept.
How am I doing it?? Good question.. Still figuring that part out. Currently I acquire a sample of 83 points w/ rate at 5000. This was chosen as 1 complete cycle of 60Hz to remove unwanted noise. These 83 samples are put trough the 'mean' function, and scaled appropriately to allow accurate results from the 'Strain Conv' function, then processed to achieve accuracy in psi and sent to a chart for real time observations, and to a tunnel for indexing.
I would like to add an alarm to indicate when the output hits xxxx (roughly 15000), acquire an additional 10 seconds of information, then save this to a file.
Thus far I was planning on trying Sequence loops...
Frame 1: use a 'sequence local' to get the initial data to later frames, where the alarm would stop the first while loop.
Frame 2: continue sampling the data for xx seconds, send to another sequence local
Frame 3: gather both locals together, build new array, save this to a file... Hopefully with a time/date like stamp as a file name to allow it to run un-monitored for an extended period of time.
As this is a new venture, I have thus far not attempted frames 2 & 3 yet, working on that. I am guessing that the tick count you are referring to in your suggestion is from the iteration counter ('i' in a blue box), inside the while loop. I will work on that.
I also recently contacted CC for assistance creating a time/date stamp for the file name... do you think this could work? (didn't ask this specifically) and I still haven't figured out how to create a file path from this. (granted the whole file path thing is a mystery in general)
Plus.... when events happen, all data from the beginning of the aquisition run is saved, the longer the run, the longer the file. Is there a way to limit this to say.... the last 3000 samples? I think it would have something to do with creating an array xx long to start, then filling it, when the array is full the next point in the top will kick the last one out the bottom. (i think)

In a class I have this method:

Oracle buys Toplink .... what happens to BC4J?

I was surprised to read that Oracle will support Struts in the next release of JDeveloper while they've developed their own Oracle MVC.
Now I'm equally surprised to read that Oracle buys Toplink ( http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/53/25579.html ) and I wonder whether I should indeed develop on top of BC4J.

It seems that you are providing loads of options on the "infrastructure" level here. Thanks, choice is good!
However, when under pressure to deliver a web application fast (eg as fast as generating pages with the >Web Server generator in Designer), it would be nice to be relieved of the choice (and the necessary >learning & testing) and have an Oracle recommended path and full commitment + tool support for it. Yeah, with Oracle you see alot of how to migrate from our old stuff to our new stuff lately. I am not even sure what their full commitment means for the non-core (database, PL/SQL,...) technologies. Although, if Oracle is buying TopLink, I would like to hear their strategy as soon as possible. This would give Oracle a path to support JDO as well. TopLink is great. It's an actually solution to real world problems. Unlike half of J2EE, which is more of a solution for vendors to sell something. BC4J is nice for similar reasons. Although, if it weren't for the cost I'd be using TopLink for O-R and until today I was pretty committed to using BC4J on my upcoming project. Now, I want to see what happens with TopLink. If that were included with JDeveloper or our current Oracle licensing agreement, then that'd change things for me.
Nobody wants to be in the position of using an abandoned framework. Since UIX-XML and BC4J are not an official standard like EJB or JDO or unofficial standard like Struts, or even just open source that you know you can always enhance fix, it makes me a bit uncomfortable. However, UIX/BC4J is where the IDE is currently focussed. So if you want the RAD that's what you get.
So best case, Oracle buys TopLink uses for O-R portion of BC4J and a JDO implementation that's included with the appserver and/or JDeveloper, where we could still continue to work with BC4J on one level or use TopLink/JDO alone. Worst case, we end up having to migrate all our apps from UIX/BC4J to Struts/JDO-TopLink.
So will IBM try to by Cocobase or something?
And why did BEA let TopLink slip through their fingers? BEA could end the only big heavy without a JDO implementation in their J2EE server.
Of course, none of this might happen.

I created a 11.1 database with dbca, and the created database has many user schemas. I can recognize some of them like SYS, OUTLN and SH etc. Others I do not recognize, and list below. Hope that somebody can tell me what are they and can they be safely dropped.CTXSYS

Apparently your definition of "safely" includes invalidating objects owned by SYS. I suggest you do that on a test database of your own and see what happens.
Expect to spend a very long time picking up the pieces.

SB some times your advice is right on the mark. Sometimes it is positively dangerous. Please consider the implications of what you write before you post it.
Someone seeing this advice on an Oracle website might just follow it and I doubt you will be there with them to help explain the disaster to their employer.

What happens to FPGA code when a module it expects is missing?

Hi Folks,
I want to know what happens if you have FPGA code that expects a module to be present running on a system where the module is missing.
We have a RT control system that runs on a cRIO 9014 with a 9111 backplane. There are only two modules in the slots and one of these is the Prosoft Profibus module. The biggest chunk of the FPGA code is taken up with configuring and sending and receiving using this module. Specifically the communications with the module are done by the Read (Memory) and Write (Memory) structures.
We are developing code to use the Ethernet/IP libraries instead of Profibus in some cases. This means the communications moves from the FPGA to the RT. We are considering have the ability to switch be an option.
My concern is that if the FPGA has code in that references the Profibus module, then it might behave badly if the module is not present.
And so my question is if FPGA code tries to reference a module that is not present, what happens? Is it just an error? Will there be no error? What?

I am not familiar with profibus, but why not just remove the module and run it and see what happens? I'm guessing you will get an error, althougth which error I am not sure.

What happens to the rendered animated buttons on sub-menus

I am on a 3GB of memory MacBook Pro using Encore (CS3). Here is a description of how I have produced a working DVD...so far 3 out of 5 DVDs I have tried to render have worked.
ANYWAY...seems that Encore implodes when I try to render the same project more than one at a time. Encore chokes and I am back in the MAC OS.
HERE is my main question...every time it blows it seems to blow away the RENDERED ANIMATED BUTTONS on the secondary menu. SO each time I try this again I have to re-render the buttons taking about 1.5 hours. Why do I have to re-render...why aren't the rendered 2nd level menus SAVED.
To make it clear...after I rendered the menus...previewed...saw the buttons are animated...SAVED...try to write a DVD Disc from the Current Project...succeed...try to burn another DVD...it aborts (why...I have no idea)...I empty trash...bring up Encore again...try to preview the secondary menu...NO ANIMATION there so have to rerender and start all over.
I have been reading about compatibility of DVD disc, computer players and DVD players...what a PILE...without all the techies our there we can't make a dependable environment to create, burn and play DVDs...these companies should be ashamed...all they are doing is producing a whole bunch of frustrated producers (or lack of producing producers).
Can anyone shed a light on my problem!?!?

A couple of questions, mainly to make sure that I understand what is happening.
1.) There are two files (an audio and a MOV), that show in the Orphanage, when you Check Project. Do they appear there BEFORE you Check Project, or only AFTER?
2.) Do they appear BEFORE in your Project Panel, or only AFTER you Check Project?
3.) Since they are Orphans, I assume that you do not intend to use them in this Project - right? Were they ever in the Project (Imported as Assets, or Timelines)?
4.) Was this Project started fresh, or did you modify an existing Project, to create it, say using a Save_As, etc.?
5.) If they were not Imported into this Project, were they Imported into another Project, that is/was being worked on coincidental to this one?
6.) Can you find these files on your system? Where are they located?
If 1.) is After and 2.) is After, then your Project might be corrupt. The Assets/Timelines/etc. are linked to the Project by XML. This can become corrupt for many reasons, most are often unknown - power dip, or hardware issue on Save, etc..
Two ways to check this theory, is to start the Project from scratch, and see what happens. Another is to use a freeware program, XML Wrench, and run the Project file through it. Aside from pointing out broken links, and other problems, it should also allow you to search for these files names in the body. Save a copy of the Project file, so you will have it untouched, and then remove any lines, that reference these files. Save_As (new Project name) and open that in Encore. Being on MAC, doesnt every data file have a finder file, associated with it? Could this finder file be cross-linked, in some way, to your real Assets?
It could be that there is a hardware issue, and this causes the links to the Rendered files to become broken, and also to link to files, that should not be included. Any other strange things with your system lately? I do not know the MAC folder/file structure, but can you do the equivalent of Windows Check Disk? If so, set it to find lost clusters, or whatever MAC calls them.
Also, being on PC, I do not know what utilities might be available for your OS, or what other programs might be causing a problem. On PCs, other DVD burning software, especially if their packet-writing applet is installed, can cause havoc with Encore and are discouraged. Anything else installed, and/or running, that you can think of?
Sorry to play twenty questions, but Id like to be as clear, as I can, on exactly what is happening, before I make too many more guesses.

What happens when multiple users access the same servlet?

Do the users share all the same resources? Or is a new process generated for each user? I have a servlet that builds a string to return to the user and I only have myself to test, so I can't really see what happens when many users access the servlet. Is there a possibility that the string will get screwed up, like when dealing with multiple threads, or do all the users get their own resources and I don't have to worry about that?

huh? if you can point a test servlet at it, you can point a browser at it (even if the servlet does not serve html it will run)
try pasting the servlet URL into a web browser
refreshing multiple browsers repeatedly could provide a manual test
