How do I close tooltip windows on my iPad that I tap to open but lack a close widget?

Many game-related websites I browse will show images that, were I on a desktop or laptop, I can hover my mouse over to get a tooltip window to appear. That window will disappear when I move the mouse off of the image, so the window doesn't have a close widget.
However, in my mobile devices, the only way I can open these tooltip windows (since I lack a mouse/cursor with which to hover) is by tapping the image. That opens the tooltip window just fine but I then have no way to close that tooltip without refreshing or reloading the entire web page. Am I missing something obvious? I hoped tapping the same image again would close the window, but no dice.

Look for a tiny x to close the window. If that doesn't work tap the screen outside the window. If it still doesn't work try double tapping the home botton and swipe the app preview up to close.

via e-mail? If my reading is correct, then my question is why
must it be done

My suggestion would be to maintain the survey on the server,
distribute an
e-mail with a hyperlink to the survey for the recipents to
complete, which
also allows for more control over the survey process. Further
I would do the
survey in three parts (pages) as such.

This page is obvious and would contain the survey questions.
-- survey_processing.cfm
This page is where all the processing would take place, like
inserting responses into the appropriate database(s), as well
as
sending automated e-mail notifications when a survey is
received.
The last line of code on this page would be a
<cflocation> tag
redirecting the individual to the next page. By using a
processing
page, you reduce if not eliminate the double record creation
that
can occur when individuals click the submit button more then
once.

This page would let the submitter know the submission was
completed,
as well as let you provide any additional information you may

bring to their attention. Could also use this page to provide

Usage Survey

Is anyone aware of any surveys on how many people use which IDE?
Clearly if we asked here most people would say they use JDeveloper. I'm working on generating a comparison and report on the major IDEs and from my exposure they are: Eclipse, IDEA, JDeveloper and NetBeans. I'd like to see some idea of what is the percentage breakdown using the various IDEs.
Perhaps JavaWorld or some other site has run a survey?

Mac vs. Windows Usage

So, in all the previous incarnations of the iPod that I've owned, I have never been able to use the device on a Mac AND a PC without one of them screaming and yelling about the format being incorrect. However, I can plug in the 16gb iPod Touch to my Mac, load what I want, then go to work and plug it in to my Thinkpad and also load things. And it never says anything about the formatting being wrong for the OS I'm trying to use. Is this normal? I've had a 1st gen, 2nd gen, Shuffle, Mini and Nano and all of them have always kept me from doing that due to the OS being different. Has this changed and I missed the memo?

Yes.
I've had a 1st gen, 2nd gen, Shuffle, Mini and Nano and all of them have always kept me from doing that due to the OS being different. Has this changed and I missed the memo?
No.
Macs can read Windows formatted iPod and Mac formatted iPods.
Windows can only read a Windows formatted iPod.
The shuffle has always (and can only) be formatted FAT32 (Windows), even if you Restore it on a Mac.
Perhaps you are confusing formatting with the message that tells you that the iPod can only be sync'd with one library?
If you have *Manually manage music* enabled, you can use it on other computers, no problem (keeping in mind the formatting mentioned above).

Usage survey question

I was told before I bought my UMBP that it was more power than what I needed it for! I'm just using right now for internet and Yahoo however I like the 15 inch screen better than the smaller UMB. As I'm new to computing and still somewhat of a neo Luddite, please suggest what else I can do with my notebook. What is the consensus on websites, programs, applications etc.?

There is no consensus; every user has different needs and interests and, in many cases, work requirements. Assuming from your prior posts that your computer is chiefly for leisure-time use, I suspect you may find iPhoto and/or iMovie fun and interesting to explore, and you may already have a large collection of still pictures or videos that you'll eventually want to organize and manipulate with those applications. Google Earth (a free downloadable application) is endlessly fascinating to me and many other people, and makes good use of your MBP's power if you have a good broadband internet connection. (If you don't, forget it.) You can, of course, buy and sell things online if you're inclined, do your banking online, and research places to go and things to do and see. You can keep track of your investments and your budget, make an insurance inventory of your home and its contents, write your will, design greeting cards and scrapbooks, keep a diary, create artwork, write a book, play games, fly a virtual airplane, learn bridge, typing or Swahili, visit the online virtual collections of museums around the world, design your home landscape or a new house, take online college courses, or carry on audio and video conversations with friends and relatives anywhere on earth for free, using Skype. Windows 8 on mac mini

I'm a mac newbie but I want to install windows 8 on my mac mini. How well does windows run on a mac? Before I purchase a copy of windows 8, I just want to know if it's worth doing or am I better off buying a seperate PC just for windows usage?

Windows on a Mac works as on any other PC. Apart, the main advantage of Boot Camp is that it uses all the hardware of your Mac mini, getting the maximum performance. Then, after installing, just install the Boot Camp drivers (that you can download from Boot Camp Assistant or from the Apple website) to get all the hardware of the Mac mini detected.
Before doing anything, first check that your Mac mini is compatible with Windows 8 > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634 Also, update to OS X 10.8.3 first in order to get the Windows 8 Boot Camp drivers. Finally, you have in this file all the steps you need to install Windows on the computer > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

Windows 7 and Arch (GRUB problem)

Hello I'm a new user in Arch and almost new in linux (well i need to work at university with linux so i'm not such a newb). I was using Windows 7 for a while and i installed Arch linux for programming. Everything installed very well and i really like Arch linux. But there is one problem, when GRUB boots i can choose between Arch and Windows and while i boot Arch everything is Ok, but the problem is when i boot Windows and it disables my GRUB (GRUB is installed in boot partition 200mb) well not disables, but just takes of Boot option (flag?) from boot partition and GRUB doesn't loads. so all the time after Windows usage i must run cfdisk and make boot partition bootable and remove root from windows.
Maybe anyone knos how to solve this problem or they have encountered such problem and fixed it.
If u need any code from GRUB say i will post it later, now i need to finish program in Windows.
P.S. i have surfed/serached forum for few days about such problem and found nothing... (maybe i'm blind?)

Firstly, normal people (atleast those i have communicated) don't critisize for grammar mistakes because everyone makes such mistakes. Second i prefer my mother langue more than other and i don't even bothered to learn english like i learned lithuanian langue.
Secondly, yeah if you would read news about computing and etc. you should know that there isn't full windows 7 there is windows 7 BETA, well i personally just forgot that work(mistake maybe? or i prefer not to say beta words with programm because i work mostly with beta programms).
And yeah Windows 7 was first installed (doh, if you would think more that fact would be clear because i wrote "I WAS using Windos 7 for a while..."

Tooltip on JButton doesn't show the correct mnemonic

I've had FCP lock up on me several times. The cause seems to always be 1. That I've got a ton of unrendered stills in the timeline, 2. The project is rather large, with a lot of old sequences. FCP can only access so much ram. Stills are only virtual media clips until you render them, but FCP had to create them and hold them in a cache until you do render them. FCP remembers, IN ACTIVE RAM, every cut, transition, every sequence whether active or not, every filter used, audio levels, all the clip info itself-- and a bunch of stuff you or I will never know.
When you start reaching the limits of what FCP can handle, wonky stuff starts happening.

The tooltip is always shown right from the mouse- pointer. If the mainwindow is maximized and I click near the right screen edge, the tooltip is show outside the desktop window.
Normally the tooltip should be moved left the mousepointer :

Executing window.opener.FunName from Web IC pop-up = Permission Denied

Hello,
I have modified a copy of the BuPaCreate view and controller. When the user hits save, I open a child window to perform some validation using an external system. I want to write the corrected values back to the form on the BuPaCreate view and then submit the form. I created a JavaScript function within BuPaCreate to do this. I'm running into problems when I try to execute this function from the pop-up window.   It is giving a permission denied error. I made certain my domain and server names are the same.
Has anyone else been able to execute a function within a Web IC view in this manner before? Is there an alternate method for returning the corrected values.

Windows equivalent of "save as" auto-suggest?

Switched jobs after 4.5 years of heavy windows usage and am encountering small differences here and there with the new mac. One of the items I've encountered is that the "save as" function does not autosuggest the current filename like windows does. So if I'm working on an excel file called "excel file 1" and I want to save a new version, I go to "save as "which autosuggests a filename of "untitled" meaning I have to retype "excel file 1" and then add "_v1". In windows, instead of suggesting "untitled" it would suggest "excel file 1" so I could just click and add _v1 to the end.
Having to re-type the name of the document only to add "_v1" is a small inconvenience for most files but can be a little more frustrating for files with long names so I thought I'd check in to see if there's a way to fix this.

I presume you mean you're using Office 2011 for Mac?
I tested this with Excel 2011 and it did just what I expected it to. The current name of the file appeared at the top, and I could append anything I wanted to the name, or change it entirely.

SRQM_NOTES - how to disable the tooltip for the textfield

It is not usable that there is a tooltip window in the way while a user tries to read the text behind the tooltip.

Heavy Tooltip Displaying Repeatedly when using Custom TooltipLocation

Check this one out:
If you display a tooltip so that it is both heavy weight and it is directly under the cursor location the tooltip will display over and over. It will display initially and then hide after a delay, then will display again after a delay. It will do this over and over unendingly.

The whole point of my translate was to put the heavyweight tooltip directly under my cursor. My real world example is that I have a table and I would like a tooltip to display the cell value text if the user mouses over it. But instead of displaying the tooltip below the curser (x axis) I'd like the tooltip to display right over the top of the cell: which is directly under my curser (z-axis)
This seems to work fine for me provided the ToolTipManager uses a lightweight tooltip window. It's only a problem is if my cell value is so long that the ToolTipManager is forced to use a heavyweight component.
I'm using jdk1.5 and if I set the tooltip to:
    panel.setToolTipText("A Short Tooltip");my example works correctly because the ToolTipManager uses a lightweight component. The ToolTipManager can use a lightweight tooltip window because the entire tooltip window can be displayed within the bounds of the JFrame.
So, one might ask, "why is your cell value so dang large". Well, my UI is ultimately displaying values from a database that I have no control over and in this case the field I'm displaying is a CLOB that has a very long peice of text in it.
