Tooltips in Tree
Hi,
I was trying to get a rudimentary tree widget up quickly by using an XML derived from a HHTP service as the data provider. Then I pointed the labelField attribute of the mx:tree to an xml element attribute using XPath (say, @name). This worked well as it alid out the XML tree as a Flex tree with the label of each node being the "name" attribute of the different XML elements. Each xml element which has a "name" attribute also has a corresponding "description" attribute. What I wanted to do was to make this "description" attribute appear as the tooltip for each node in mx:tree. But I could not find any property in mx:tree which would allow this.
Is this possible at all? Any help is greatly appreaciated.
Thanks,
Balaji
Hi Sailaja,
its not the header i want the tooltip for. I mean the items of the list tree itself.
my list looks like this:
- delivery | delivery date | ...
delivery position | materialnr | ...
what i want is to have a tooltip when i'm e.g. with the mouse over the filed "materialnr" the tooltip apperas.
I this possible?

How to hide default tooltip for tree nodes?
I have an af:tree.
When a node contains a long string, the tree automatically creates a horizontal scroll bar to accomodate it.
But when I hover my mouse on top of the node, a tooltip is coming showing the complete text of the node.
Because of this I cannot drag and drop this node.
Is there anyway to hide this?Still can't get rid of the tooltip the layout is:
<af:panelStretchLayout>
<f:facet name="center">
<af:panelSplitter>
<f:facet name="first">
<af:panelAccordion>
<af:showDetailItem stretchChildren="first">
<af:tree>
</af:tree>
</af:showDetailItem>
</af:panelAccordion>
</f:facet>
</af:panelSplitter>
</f:facet>
</af:panelStretchlayout>Which should be pretty fine in terms of geometry management.
If I move the splitter too much to the left the whole label can not be displayed => a tooptip pops, which prevents the node from being clicked.
Maybe the lables have to wrap in some way instead of stay 'under' the splitter.
Same behaviour with or without af:panelCollection wrapping the af:tree. -
I am using DefaultMutableTreeNode object as tree node
But for this object there is no method for setting tToolTipText
So anybody know that how to set tool tip for tree nodeYou're going to want to look at the cell renderer. That secretly returns a jlabel.
The JLabel can have a tooltip set for it. -
How to set "global" font?
Where must I change font type and / or style to take effect in whole applet? I do not want to do that for every item separately. If I set font for applet it does not effect in panels and other elements.

How can I display the tooltip in a tree node?
I implement a TreeCellRenderer and has already set the tooltiptext through the following code:
public Component getTreeCellRendererComponent(JTree tree, Object value,
boolean selected, boolean expanded,
boolean leaf, int row,
boolean hasFocus) {
Object userObject = ((DefaultMutableTreeNode)value).getUserObject();
if(Leaf.class.isInstance(userObject)) {
Leaf leaf = (Leaf)userObject;
setToolTipText(leaf.getString());
}Why can't the tree display the tooltip when a move the mouse on the leaf of the tree?
Thank you!import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import javax.swing.tree.*;
public class Test3 extends JFrame {
public Test3() {
setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
Container content = getContentPane();
JTree jt = new JTree() {
public String getToolTipText(MouseEvent evt) {
if (getRowForLocation(evt.getX(), evt.getY()) == -1)
return null;
TreePath curPath = getPathForLocation(evt.getX(),
evt.getY());
return curPath.getLastPathComponent().toString();
content.add(new JScrollPane(jt), BorderLayout.CENTER);
jt.setToolTipText("");
setSize(400, 400);
setVisible(true);
public static void main(String[] args) { new Test3();
}It sounds a solution. I use the following code and also can display the tooltip,but there's also a problem:
mytree.setCellRenderer(new MyTreeCellRenderer());
ToolTipManager.sharedInstance().registerComponent(mytree);the above code only effective when the function getTreeCellRendererComponent in MyTreeCellRenderer like the following:
public Component getTreeCellRendererComponent(JTree tree, Object value,
boolean selected, boolean expanded,
boolean leaf, int row,
boolean hasFocus) {
String stringValue = tree.convertValueToText(value, selected,
expanded, leaf, row, hasFocus);
setText(stringValue);
setToolTipText(stringValue); //Tooltips used by the tree
/* Set the icon of the node */
Object userObject = ((DefaultMutableTreeNode)value).getUserObject();
if(Device.class.isInstance(userObject)) {
setIcon(deviceIcon);
} else {
setIcon(nullIcon);
Business b = (Business)userObject;
setFont(defaultFont);
/* Update the selected flag for the next paint. */
this.selected = selected;
this.hasFocus = hasFocus;
if(selected) // && hasFocus)
setForeground(Color.white);
else
setForeground(Color.black);
return this;
}but when the code is bellow,it displays nothing(Only the leaf node need tooltip):
public Component getTreeCellRendererComponent(JTree tree, Object value,
boolean selected, boolean expanded,
boolean leaf, int row,
boolean hasFocus) {
String stringValue = tree.convertValueToText(value, selected,
expanded, leaf, row, hasFocus);
setText(stringValue);
//setToolTipText(stringValue); //Tooltips used by the tree
/* Set the icon of the node */
Object userObject = ((DefaultMutableTreeNode)value).getUserObject();
if(Device.class.isInstance(userObject)) {
setIcon(deviceIcon);
} else {
setIcon(nullIcon);
Business b = (Business)userObject;
if(b.isShowOrder())
setToolTipText(b.getContaId()); // only some node need tooltip, not all node
setFont(defaultFont);
/* Update the selected flag for the next paint. */
this.selected = selected;
this.hasFocus = hasFocus;
if(selected) // && hasFocus)
setForeground(Color.white);
else
setForeground(Color.black);
return this;
}Anyone knows why? -
Flex SDK 3.4 Tree Item Renderer Root Folder displays Tooltip for Child
I have a Flex Tree that uses a custom item renderer. The item renderer extends Tree Item Renderer and I add my button in commit properties (since the data is dynamic) and I use update displaylist to move it to the right position. I set the button to be visible on rollover and make the icon invisible. On rollout I reverse that logic.
When I have my item renderer add the button, it causes only one problem and it seems to be under certain conditions:
- Single root folder for the tree
- Upon opening the tree, the root folder displays the tool tip for the last child in the tree
Any idea why the tooltip comes up?

Tooltip not visible on hierarchical tree in Oracle Forms 11g
*Hi.. i have tried to set the "TOOLTIP" option for an hierarchical item during design time(property palatte) and also at run time( set_item_property).
But still its not working!!!
However it works for Oracle 10g forms.
Is this some kind of restriction only in Oracle 11g forms for the hierarchical items? Please help!You can't change this aspect of the Tree Control in Oracle Forms using built-in functionality. You might be able to extend the Tree Control using Java, but you have to do this yourself. : (

Tooltip with DHTML Tree...
Is it possible to get some sort of tool tip working with a DHTML tree in APEX? I am looking to offer a sentence or so about a set of reports in a list, so that people will have an idea of what they are running..
Thanks in advance!
Tony Miller
UTMB/EHNHello,
You can create a tooltip on anything that supports an
onmouseover="" just reuse the code that we discussed
with help text the only difference is your not
pulling from the built in APEX ITEM help view but
your own table. But other than that it is exactly the
same.

Carl,
Understood, except I do not know where to load the onmouseover= code.. The dhtml list object does not have the same HTML Form Element Attributes property that other APEX style controls have.. I will attempt to use the User Defined attributes and see if that works..
Thanks!

ToolTip for each node of the Tree in JTreeTable?
Hello! I have the problem that a ToolTip i have set in the TreeCellRenderer would not been displayed! Only one ToolTip will pop up over the JTreeTable with the ToolTipText that was set in the first CellRenderer. Does everybody have an idea?
OK! Its done! The solution does not help exact, but it gives my the way! With the coordinates of the MouseEvent I can get the Value of the current table row and set the ToolTip text new. Teh ToolTipManager automatically repaints the ToolTip whit the new text and position.

Hello Friends,
I am using ALV Tree to display a report.
In this report for a particular input.2 nodes are cerated.
On clicking on the 2nd node the details for the same are shown .
However on clicking the 1st node , the system automatically logs off closing all the SAP sessions and even the SAP Logon pad.
Suppose i am on executing the program on development server,even the sessions of test server are closed.
Can anyone please help me in this.....
its a bit urgent.

Double click in ALV tree output????
Hi all,
I am able to display output in tree format. But I want to add the double click functionality to some of the fields in output. Means if I double click on some value in output tree, it should call some transaction. Please help me with this issue of double clicking.
Please tell how to handle events in this report tree display.
For the following code its displaying output in tree format and in right way. But i need to add double click functionality to this.
So provide me some sample program for this one....
* create hierarchy
CALL METHOD tree1->set_table_for_first_display
EXPORTING
it_list_commentary = lt_list_commentary
i_background_id = 'ALV_BACKGROUND'
i_save = 'A'
is_variant = ls_variant
CHANGING
it_sort = gt_sort[]
it_outtab = itab_outtab
it_fieldcatalog = t_fieldcat. "gt_fieldcatalog.
* expand first level
CALL METHOD tree1->expand_tree
EXPORTING
i_level = 1.
* optimize column-width
CALL METHOD tree1->column_optimize
EXPORTING
i_start_column = tree1->c_hierarchy_column_name
i_end_column = tree1->c_hierarchy_column_name.
In grid ALV we can have double cilck functionality using code:
CALL FUNCTION 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'
EXPORTING
i_callback_program = w_repid
i_callback_pf_status_set = 'PF_STATUS'
i_callback_user_command = 'USER_COMMAND'
is_layout = ls_layout
it_fieldcat = gt_fc[]
Here we can write subroutine for USER_COMMAND and handle the double click evenet. But tell me how to provide this in tree ALV.

Apex 4.0 tree does not work with more than 2 levels.
When I have more than 2 levels in my tree, I only see the root node. The query works fine and returns 132 rows when I run it in SQL. It is just the tree that does not work.
The same tree when built in 3.2 works fine.
This is my tree query:
select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0
when level = 1 then 1
else -1
end as status,
level,
"NAME" as title,
null as icon,
"ID" as value,
null as tooltip,
null as link
from (
SELECT '__TOP_NODE__' id
, NULL pid
, 'BI Applications' name
, '' link_id
, null a1
, null a2
FROM dual
1 b) BIA Modules
UNION ALL
SELECT '__MD_'||module_key id
, '__TOP_NODE__' pid
, module_name name
, module_key link_id
, '__MD__' a1
, null a2
FROM c_bia_module
Level = 2
Parent = Module
Node = Functional Areas
ID = '__FA_' prefixing functional area code
UNION ALL
SELECT '__FA_'||funcarea_key id
, '__MD_'||module_key pid
, funcarea_name name
, funcarea_key link_id
, '__FA__' a1
, null a2
FROM c_functional_area
Level = 3
Parent = Functional Area
Node = Fact Group
ID = '__FG_' prefixing fact group key
UNION ALL
SELECT '__FG_'||factgroup_key id
, '__FA_'||funcarea_key pid
, factgroup_name name
, factgroup_key link_id
, '__FG__' a1
, null a2
FROM c_fact_group
start with "PID" is null
connect by prior "ID" = "PID"
order siblings by "NAME"
If I reduce the query to just use two levels like:
SELECT '__TOP_NODE__' id
, NULL pid
, 'BI Applications' name
, '' link_id
, null a1
, null a2
FROM dual
1 b) BIA Modules
UNION ALL
SELECT '__MD_'||module_key id
, '__TOP_NODE__' pid
, module_name name
, module_key link_id
, '__MD__' a1
, null a2
FROM c_bia_module
It works fine. Can somebody let me know what I am doing wrong? Is there a way to set the number of levels supported in 4.0?Hi Vidya,
Thanks for posting your example. You may want to remove your workspace details from the previous posting, or at least update the password on the workspace. I've taken a look at your example and initially couldn't see anything wrong with your tree query. However, when I ran your query in SQL Workshop, it only returned one row, which would explain why you were only seeing one node in your tree! I've updated your query to use a WITH clause, and the tree is now working correctly. I believe you've hit an underlying database bug where the CONNECT BY query is only returning 1 row, when in fact it should return > 1 row. By re-writing the query to use a WITH clause, you can get around the problem.

How to create a report based on the selection of a node of a tree
Hello,
I am new to Oracle Apex and I was trying to build a tree and also an interactive report based on the empno column of the emp table.
I have created a tree based on emp table. Now I want to display records of the employee selected in the tree.
Here is the tree query:
select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0
when level = 1 then 1
else -1
end as status,
level,
"ENAME" as title,
null as icon,
"EMPNO" as value,
null as tooltip,
null as link
from "#OWNER#"."EMP"
start with "MGR" is null
connect by prior "EMPNO" = "MGR"
order siblings by "ENAME"
Can anyone tell me step by step how to go from here?
I tried to follow the thread Re: tree question but could not understand much from it.The approach for reloading the page and displaying the report is quite simple.
<li>You start by creating a new page item which would be used to store the selected node ID , eg. P100_SELECTED_NODE (you can make it atext item and change it hidden once everything works as expected)
<li>Modify the tree query and change the link column in the tree definition SQL query to a link to the same
for example if your page is 100 , you would make the tree node link to the same page but set the P100SELECTED_NODE with selected node's id_
This done here
{message:id=4410987}
In this case it would be
'f?p=&APP_ID.:100:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P100_SELECTED_NODE:'||EMPNO as link Now when you click on a tree node link , it would come back to the same page, but set the P100_SELECTED_NODE with the empno of the clicked node.
<li> All that is left to do, is changing your Report so that it refers to the new item inorder to filter the records for this employee i.e empno
SELECT ...
WHERE empno= :P100_SELECTED_NODE -
Multiple tree objects in ApEx 4.0
Hi all,
I'm working on a project where i need to put 2 tree objects in one region.
First tree object is correct but when i add my second tree below the first one no data is shown or the wrong data is shown.
Strange thing is when i put the second tree above the first tree it all works well.
Is there an explanation for this or is it a bug in ApEx?
my apex version is 4.0.0.00.46
Edited by: Mario DS on 15-nov-2011 14:20Hi,
Pre-Apex4 you could make use of the A1 and A2 columns in the tree SQL along with the tree template to conditional set the color of the node text. Does anyone know how to achieve this in Apex4? I've tried using the tree SQL shown below but this displays the HTML (SPAN tags) as text.
select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0
when level = 1 then 1
else -1
end as status,
level,
'<span style="color:red;">'||"ENAME"||'</span>' as title,
null as icon,
"EMPNO" as value,
null as tooltip,
null as link
from "#OWNER#"."EMP"
start with "MGR" is null
connect by prior "EMPNO" = "MGR"
order siblings by "ENAME"Any assistance would be appreciated.
Cheers.
