  • Nokia 5800 apps and updating firmware

    Hi all
Quick question regarding installed apps and updating the firmware... I install all my apps onto the phone itself rather than the memory stick. Firstly i've been told that this isn't a good idea (i'm not not sure why) Can anyone think of any reasons? I do it as I've found some apps do not work when they are on the memory card for some reason.
Anyway, since they are all on my c: of the phone will updating the firmware delete them all? I'm not sure if a firmware update resets it back to factory settings or just updates it but leaves everything how it is?
Can anyone help? I would test it but my phone is already up to date!
    Thanks

The 5800 has UDP (User data preservation) so in theory your data and applications should be safe when you update. However it always better to be safe than sorry so do backup your phone.
If the phone memory was big enough, I would probably install all applications on it as it runs faster. However the reality is the phone memory is very small and you will run low on phone memory after just a few applications. So a balance is required where some applications which are perhaps used more often and those which will only work from the phone memory are intalled on it., The remainder will unfortunately have to go on the memory card.

  • Isync transfers data to Ical from Nokia 5800, but not the other way round

When I sync my Nokia 5800 using Isync, diary entries from my phone are moved onto my Mac, but entries made on my Mac are not transferred to my phone. This leaves my phone calendar without any entries. Am I doing something wrong here, or is this a bug? Does anyone know how to transfer this data back into my phone? My contacts swap both ways no problem. I have installed the Nokia 5800 app. Many thanks.

I'm not sure what else to suggest. As the Nokia 5800 is not natively supported by iSync you must be using an iSync Plugin, so I'd advise contacting the author of the plugin - it may be buggy and need fixing.

  • Nokia 5800 -like compass navigation view (or app) ...

Can I get anywhere same like navigation compass app to my new Nokia 701 (or any other Symbian ¨3 version) as Nokia 5800 had? When hunting, I like to add navigation points (for example where I left my car). Of course I can get walking navigation via maps (and choose straight line), but I miss Nokia 5800 style compass view, where I can use saved favorites as navigation points.
    Nokia lumia 920 in use

    Hi,
I am attaching the screen snap of the navigation key i am talking about.

  • Apps that's are in top free but are not free

There are  apps in the top free section of the AppStore but it still says you must pay $4.99 same with iMovie and pages so can I download them for free or is this gonna end up chargin me even tho the apps were In the top free section

These were for the promotion that Apple had. It was with the purchase of any Apple device (with iOS 7 or 6) you will receive iLife (GarageBand, iMovie, iPhoto, etc.), iWork (Numbers, Keynotes, Pages, etc.), and any other Apple-made apps.

hi, why the kyenote app is in the top free apps though it sais 19.99 $

my mac is mid 2012 and i havent purshaced iwork, soo i wont be able to download it for free right !! even if i updated to the lates mac os version
or is there any thing els to do

  • I was wondering if the i work apps are free it says the name on top free but says 19.99

the i work app are in the top free charts but says it's 19.99 pls help

Why are you showing an iOS operating system with a Mac. Macs run on OS X. iPhones, iPads and iPods Touch run on iOS.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.
If you don't qualify for the free app, then you pay the regular price. If you qualify, the Buy button says Free.

  • How come there are paid apps in the top free category? (iwork apps)

i was looking in the appstore and saw that the iwork apps are in the top free category why is that?

They are paid apps that are free under two sets of circumstances; they are free is you have bought a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013, and they are free if you owned the previous version of these apps, iWork '09 and have upgraded to OS X Mavericks 10.9.

I was wondering if there is any top free app for cleaning up  the computer from malware, phinishing apps, adware, and othere malicious softwares and make it run faster while booting, on startup and while surfing web. I am using a Macbook pro  with IOS10.8.5, under chrome, safari, firefox net environment. thanks on your help

I was wondering if there is any top free app for cleaning up ...
There is no such thing, since the problems you are describing can have various causes. Seeking anything claiming to "clean" your Mac is asking for trouble, since all of those products are scams, whether they are "free" or not.
If you are having trouble with your Mac, describe what it is. Be as specific as possible. For general recommendations read below.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up", "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iCloud, iTunes, or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose:Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
The same precaution applies to Adobe Flash Player. Newly discovered Flash vulnerabilities appear almost weekly.
Beware spontaneous popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > check "Block popup windows".
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but unsolicited popups are commonly used to deceive people into installing unwanted software they would never intentionally install.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever receive a popup window indicating that your Mac is infected with some ick or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
The same goes for a spontaneously appearing dialog insisting that you upgrade your video player right this instant. Such popups are frequently associated with sites that promise to deliver "free" movies or other copyrighted content that is not normally "free".
The more insistent it is that you upgrade or install something, the more likely it is to be a scam. Close the window or tab and forget it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. Most of these attempts are pathetic and are easily recognized, but that hasn't stopped prominent public figures from recently succumbing to this age-old scam.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Charged for downloading an App from Top Free

I got charged for downloading an App which is among the Top Free section. How can I get a refund?

So the entire time that you saw a price on the button and Buy on the button, you didn't realize that you would be charged?
The iWork apps are normally paid apps unless you qualify for them for free. And when you qualify to get them free, the button says free.
You will receive an emailed receipt for the purchase. Use the Report a Problem link to make your request for a refund. It may or it may not happen. Apple considers all sales final.

  • Nokia 5800 XpressMusic- No Apps show up after upgr...

My Nokia 5800 XpressMusic shipped with a 4GB memory card. But that was too small for me, I used up almost all of it, only 500 MB is left.
So I bought a 8GB MicroSD HC memory card. I then took the 4GB out and inserted the new one. And then I transferred all of my data (pics, vdos, music, docs, apps etc) using a backup of my 4GB memory card which I created using Nokia Ovi Suite sometime before that.
But the backup was not successful, though all of my Images, videos, music, docs etc were restored, I dont see any of the apps I installed on that old memory card restored here in this new one.
But the main problem is that they are there, they were transferred. But they don't show up in the applications folder. I think they are hidden cuz when I tried to install one of the missing apps (Google Maps), my phone said that app already exists and asked me if I want to replace that etc. Also same with the Ovi Store app. If I try to again download the missing items, It doesn't work (the download button is greyed out).
This problem happened though I restored my backups twice.
Please give me a solution on how to fix this. I really need it. It took me a lot of time to download all of those apps. So I really need it now. How do I make them appear?
    Pls
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Since you already have the back up of all your content, do a soft reset and only restore contacts, messages photos, music etc but not any apps. Then see if ovi store let you downloade them again.
You do the soft reset by dialling *#7370# with default code 12345 (if you have not changed it your self)
This will wipe the phone memory - therfor the back up. You might also have to format the memory card if there's something there triggering ovi store to believe the apps are already installed.

  • "Nokia Sotware App" on 5800 never finds new update...

The "Software Update app” on my nokia 5800 never finds new updates! It always searches and then claims it can’t find anything. It used to be able to find updates but not it does not. It seems as if it’s corrupted so is there a way i can uncorrupt it? Is there a userfile i can delete on my phone to uncorrupt it?

Nokia have not made the upgrade for all 5800 phones only certain 5800 phones are upgradeable contact nokia and demand this to be fixed. I was on the phone for 1/2 an hour and got nowhere.

  • Mac app store top free full of paid Apple products?

Just curious, why is the Top Free Apps list on the Mac App store filled with Paid apps and just a few actual free apps. So iMove, iPhoto, Keynote, Pages,  Numbers, these are £10.49 and £13.99, not free?

Because if you qualify, they are free. If you don't qualify, they're paid.
    1. They are free with a new Mac bought starting 1 OCT 2013.
    2. They are free if you own iWork '09 and upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9.
