I second this book! I took my CS5 test last year and this book was a great help. I also had CS5 'Classroom in a Book' but didn't find it as effective. I am more of a visual learner and found that giving myself projects helped a lot. It also helped that I was working full-time in the software at the time so was able to try various techniques and 'push buttons' to see what happened.
Practice exams can be helpful as well: http://www.acequestions.com/ , but keep in mind, these are practice and the questions asked are very different, although centered around the same topic.
Good luck.

Having not received a call back yesterday as promised - again! - I phoned BT - again - today. Apparently we're getting a call from them on Wednesday. The seventh promise of that kind now. I told the BT chap I was sorry, but given our previous experiences, I couldn't trust what he said. He promised there would be a call. Just to make sure, I confirmed our contact details with him and, yes, you guessed it - they were incorrect! So we wouldn't have received the promised phone call. In the face of breathtaking incompetence, my partner and I are keeping our spirits up by betting on the next thing BT will screw up.

  • How do I delete when opening home page "Meet Mozilla Foxfire" and 8 easy steps to become a Foxfire Expert

When I log into Foxfire the main page shows "Meet Mozilla Foxfire" and then below that it says Become a Firefox Expert in 8 easy steps. I'd like for the home page to show something like news, etc. in lieu of the above.

    Hi hijeannie,
You should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. These should give you all the information you need!
    If that doesn't work:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Top Five Reasons on how to not get your iPod Stolen In N.Y.C.

Ok Im doing this because you constantly hear about ppl getting robbed for their iPods, well here's how not to.
    5. Keep Your iPod Out Of Sight!
Listen to your Inner Voice if you feel Like someone's watching you Leave The iPod hidden.
    4. Keep the Volume at a normal Level!
Listening To Loud Music is a sure fire way of getting stripped of your iPod, **** If you hear some one blasting Music in their ears it's a sign that they have a kind of portable Mp3 player, Cd players and cassette players volume doesn't go as loud as an iPod Does.
    3. Don't carry your iPod in Plain Sight!
    2. Save the Video's for other places!
Watching the latest Video or Movie on your iPod on The Ferry ,A train, Bus or in a Train or Ferry Terminal is a sure way to end up with out your iPod.
And the Number One reason on how to not get your iPod stolen In N.Y.C.
    1. Change the dayum Headphones you idiot!
The Typical iPod Headphones are a dead give away that you have an iPod so What if you feel like you have "Status" Now that you have an iPod keep wearing the iPod headphones and your gonna lose that "Status" Symbol, I Use a Cheap brand of Headphones that sound better the the apple headphones and I travel to the City a Lot my iPod stays out of Sight and I don't have no problems with ppl trying to steal it.
    So now Who's Smarter?

    wooHoo! yes! common sense people.
you know that anyone who's had their ipod stolen has done these things.
as added protection I have long hair so I use a headset without a band. and you can't tell I'm using headphones.
and aren't apple earbuds just awful.

  • When importing midi files from Reason they become "Pop Flute"

Hi I am new here in the discussion board so i don't really know how everything works. I own an iMac and Garageband 3 and I also use Reason 4.0. I export midi files from Reason to use in Garageband and I have no trouble finding the files, but when I drag them into GB it makes all the tracks into "Pop Flute" tracks. Can anyone help me out here?? Also does anyone know how to or if you can register Garageband for Tech Support?

What you are suggesting, I'm sorry to say, is not helpful at all.
    Just curious: Why not?
To be more precise: GB doesn't support the General Midi standard, so program data in midi files really don't mean a lot to it. There are instruments in the General Midi standard that GB just doesn't have. So you can convert your file as much as you want.

  • Installed Photoshop Elements 13. Opened program.  FYI, I work w/3 screens.  Appears in center screen, too wide and cannot minimize it.  Line across top reads eLive, Quick, Guided, Expert.  Only eLive works.  Gray screen on rest.

I have installed Elements 13.  The screen stretches too wide on the screen and I can't see the edges at all to minimize or exit.  Across the top I read eLive, Quick, Guided and Expert.  Only eLive comes up with anything at all.  If I click on the others, I just get a gray screen.  I am running Windows 8.1 x64.  Thanks.

    Hi,
I'm from germany so no 'best buy' but I think I will lock around sleeve/bag for a different product with same measures. Any tip?
The clear plastic case is not what I want. I would like to use the player without such protections. I just want a sleeve to protect the player while its in my jacket/pants.
Btw, i have bought this version: Creative Zen (maybe european version?). I also doesn't seem to have your mentioned sleeve. I also couldn't find it on the website.
    Anyway, thank you,
    Chris

  • Palm Desk Top 4.2.1 on Mac to be Compatible with Windows XP

At work I am using a Mac with Palm Desk Top 4.2.1 for creating a data base for customers. At home I have a PC with Windows XP. I want to be able to work from home to enter information but I am not sure what download version I should use that will be compatible with my computer. I am just new to Mac computers at work, so everything is new to me.  Would appreciate any suggestions.

    To WyreNut,
Thank you for your information on loading software for my Palm Desktop 4.2.1 to my PC using Windows XP. I was able to get it loaded but I am not able to create an address book to work with our names data base. I can get Contacts but that is it. I read the manual you had sent the link to as well, but it did not give me the information I needed. I did print up instructions from our Mac but what I downloaded is not the same. If you have any other suggestions I would love to hear them.
    Thank you,
Are you using a Palm device, or just the software?
If using the device, when you do a Hotsync to the PC, all data should transfer to Palm Desktop.
"Contacts" is the newer name for the "Address Book", so I'm not quite sure what you mean by not being able to create one...?

Sorry to give that impression. I had them all at different times. I got the Zire mostly to keep track of contacts and get rid of all the post its on my desk, and kept upgrading from there. The exandable memory slot was awesome because I used it mainly as a ereader. The 72 was for the camera and the TX for the wi-fi. So I have had a Palm for about 15 years. Looks like bad timing on my part as I got the 64 bit OS PC about the same time as the transition of Palm to HP so I did not keep up with the news. Dealing with Palm was frustrating because I had spent hundreds of dollars for software from them that they no longer had any record of. AppGear, which apparently handled the transition couldn't help because it had been over a year and they no longer maintained the record.
I Googled Palm a few days ago and found Brighthand, which in turn got me here. I now have an aceeca driver fpr the Palm Desktop and according to the hotsync manager, it successfully synced. So is the next step to establish an account with HP? I should already have one as I have had a couple HP laptops. Where do people buy Palm software these days since there really is no Palm store?

  • Photos are not syncing for some reason.

Photos taken on my Treo 755p are not transferring to my computer. They used to transfer to the 'Palm' folder under 'My Pictures' on Windows XP. The transfer used to occur with no problem...but I'm currently not having any luck. I went so far as to backup my Palm files, delete the Palm Desktop software, re-install it and then HotSync the new software with my phone. Does anyone have any tips???
    Your help is much appreciated!
    Thanks!

The downloadable versions of Palm Desktop don't include a Media conduit (though I think the 6.2.2 version does, but it's for Vista users).
You should be using the version that came with your installation disk to get the Media conduit.
You can use version 6.2.2 on an XP box, but I feel it's a "less-capable" version than 4.2

  • Expert day...

I have worked for HP/Marketsource for seven years and could really use some help today.  The Touchpad is my father's who is home for two weeks after successful Prostate Cancer surgery.  I would love to be able to help him fix it.  I have an HP touchpad that won't turn on and will only show up as QHSUSB_DLOAD when i connect it to my computer.   I tried the HP WebOS support page through this site and it did not help.  Any of the experts on today have any ideas to help?   I've already tried twisting power chord counter clockwise and then clockwise until it clicked; and holding power button with menu button and volume button for over 90 seconds with no luck.  The touchpad charger does charge my phone so it probably is not the charger.  I also tried plugging in touchpad with cellphone charger that fits and it still will not turn on.
    Thanks so much.
    -Mark {personal info removed}

Have you tried a normal restart combination - center button and power button held together for around 20 seconds?
Try this with the charger connected.
Other than a broken USB port on the device, I'm not aware of any definitive cure for this issue.
It would be nice if someone from HP/Palm's repair center could chime in here with an analysis of the problem since we have multiple posts on the subject.
Regular, daily charging seems to prevent the condition (at least for me).  I have two touchpads and both still work fine, along with numerous webOS and PalmOS devices.  This method has kept them alive throughout the years.

  • How to be a Forms & PL/SQL Expert?

Hi Experts, I am very new to Oracle Forms and PL/SQL. I have been doing development in Forms (mostly in 10g but I also in 6i) and PL/SQL for little over 2 years.
My problem is, I don't know much about how to progress up the ladder to be an Oracle Forms & PL/SQL expert.
My other big problem is trying to find out how to keep pace with the latest development in Forms and PL/SQL.
For example, my manager asked me how to print a file in a client printer. I could not give him a solution at once. Only after couple of hours of searching did I find the solution using WebUtil.
Another instance a manger asked me how to encrypt data in Oracle forms. Again I had to do an extensive search on the web.
Can an "expert" give a solution at once, without going to the web?
Another time I was asked to do a performance tuning and could not do it since I have not done before. I tried to follow the method found in this site using a personal DB in my machine but could not simulate a situation.
How do you keep track of latest developments?
Are their any sites to go to?
Is there a routine you can follow?
Do you have to do R&D regularly? How often?
How many hours of reading web-sites (on Forms, PL/SQL stuff) should you do for a week?
How do YOU experts do it?
You advice would be greatly appreciated.

First of all I don't consider myself an expert, so my advice here might be flawed as they are based on my experiences ;)
Can an "expert" give a solution at once, without going to the web?Frankly I hardly know how to write a file using text_io or utl_file, or use some other somewhat regular-use supplied packages without looking them up in the documentation. Well I somehow know, but the code will most certainly throw compile errors. This is due to the fact that the entire oracle documentation is huge, and there are version dependend manuals, and I never liked memorizing things I could easily look up. It just doesn't make sense to memorize entire documentations when you can look them up. So even for basics I go to the web...
For example, my manager asked me how to print a file in a client printer. I could not give him a solution at once. Only after couple of hours of searching did I find the solution using WebUtil. So in the end you found a solution yourself didn't you?
Another instance a manger asked me how to encrypt data in Oracle forms. Again I had to do an extensive search on the web.I am around forms a few years, and I don't know an ad-hoc answer to that. I might have a clue, but for a advice I'd have to try and most certainly consult google.
Another time I was asked to do a performance tuning and could not do it since I have not done before. I tried to follow the method found in this site using a personal DB in my machine but could not simulate a situation. And you know at least where to start now even if you didn't solve the problem, don't you?
When I started programming C/C++ in school we had a teacher who I consider a C-Guru. Sometimes the answer to how would I implement X? was I don't know exactly yet, but let me do some research and I'll show you. Needless to say that we certainly got our answers. The same guy taught Java with the opening phrase I don't know much about Java, but it is Object-Oriented, the Syntax is C like, and the documentation is quite extensive. He explained things better to us then others who asserted knowing Java.
IMHO curiosity and being keen to experiment are much more valuable then the ability to memorize manuals and APIs. You might solve your problems with your actual knowledge today, but tomorrow there are new challenges which require new knowledge to be accumulated.
If you face a problem don't hesitate to get your hands dirty. If a program doesn't do what it's supposed to do fire up the debugger, look at diagnostic infos and see why it fails instead crying about that you don't know why. If you need to learn a new language install the compiler, and write code until it compiles and does what you want it to do. If you need to work with the new asdf server enterprise edition install it, turn it upside down, blow it's config into pieces until it stops working and maybe get it running after that.
Everything else boils down to showing an active interest in the things you do. There is no formula saying "spend X hours a week on asktom and eventually become a database expert". I regularly (can't say how often) visit asktom because I like reading the questions there. I don't do it because I must or want to become an expert someday, it is simple curiosity.
As for places to look this is answered easily: the key source for informations on new products is the vendors homepage. It's OTN for oracle, MSDN for microsoft, ubuntu.com for ubuntu, and what ever else. Technical articles etc. about the products are at least listed there.
Of course in software development there is (at least) one rule which always applies:
always write code as if the person who will maintain your code is a maniac serial killer that knows where you live
    cheers
