Top half much darker !!

Just opened my new I-Mac, 24", and to my surprise the display has two kind of colours, like is fading away from middle screen to the top. Reading those forums, it seems that the 20" had problems. Am I the only one ? Is that supposed to be normal or is that a defect ? Not nice at all !
Thanks
Nicolas

Hello,
I am affraid that I was very disapointed by Apple France Answer. They did not consider as severe enough to take it from my house for repear, and suggested that either I use my 14 days for Apple store to send it back (without a word of excuse or suprise), or I go myself to an authorised dealer to have it repeared.
Considering the time already wasted and that I have no time for more, considering the arrogance of the service (they obvioulsy now at the stage of success that they dont care about users as much as in the past), I told them I want to send it back and ask for refund. TNT will take it back and I will stay with my current Mac, buying a PC as 2nd computer. Perhaps they have lost a 20 years faithful user..
The shame thing is that stock is up to the roof, and that they couldn't seem to care less for my disapointment. I got a "take it or leave it, we dont need you" kind of attitude on the phone. They now making enough money so they wont care so much about client satisfaction. Sadest thing is that technical cenre admited they know the problem... That must say it all about profitability, thus margins at the depend of quality....
Cheers and take care,
Nicolas

  • DLP TV is much darker lately, please help with problem

Hello everyone, I found this forum after some searching around, I figure it's the best place since it is Toshiba itself, rather than a forum with all TV's.  I'm very sorry for the long message, but I wanted to share everything so that you have all the info.  I know it's hard to read through all that but I hope someone with know-how does and helps me.
My TV:  Toshiba 62" DLP (62HM84) connected through HD cables of high quality (RGB), not HDMI (I found the former is better on this TV for some reason, maybe due to the latter being new at that time)
I bought this TV within months of its release, so I've had it for a very long time, and have experience with its functions as well as how it's supposed to look like, and of course how much life to expect from the lamp/ballast.
The first lamp lasted almost 2 years, and I replaced it.  Since then I replaced the lamp on average about every year and a half (acceptable, perfectly, as the TV is on all the time).
So, after about 4 lamp replacements, it exploded again.  This time the new lamp would not work, and I found out it was the ballast.  $300 later, it was on again and working fine.
Since this last replacement, which was well over 2 years ago now, closer to 3 years, by far the longest of any before, it's still going, minus the darkness problem, described below.
In the last few months I have noticed the TV is noticeably darker, at all times.  It was never very bright in daylight, but now it's almost impossible to watch in the day, and at night, when usually everyone who came over told us that our TV is by far the most beautiful as far as picture goes of all they have seen (even compared to new 1080p LEDs and plasmas, I guess they just don't know how to set them up properly), at night it is just nice now, no longer bright and beautiful, but just nice.  Still looks great in HD, but for some reason it's just dark.
Contrast, brightness, HUE, Color, everything is set perfectly, I tried film/movie/video modes, LOW/HIGH (it's always on high now), and nothing.  It's still very nice, but dark, much darker then ever before, even if still very sharp and colorful.  When connected through HDMI and my laptop, it's almost unwatchable, the dark scenes are so dark you can't see anything, but I don't think that is related because on HD channels the problem is not that bad, it's dark, but watchable, and dark scenes are still normal, just not like they should be.
I am just wondering basically if this problem is an old lamp problem, which is what I'm hoping.  I can't see it being the color wheel, the colors are great and my searches brought up no such hits.  But I can't wrap my head around a bulb losing brightness over time, I always figured it's either working or not, over its lifetime, it's the reason why I chose DLP over Plasma/LCD (at the time, my next will be a LED for sure, maybe Toshiba, have to do research)
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
PS.  How important is it to buy an OEM lamp rather than one that is made by a third party?  I don't even know which I have now, or if Toshiba even still makes these, or if they ever did (the color wheel is Samsung, I don't think Toshiba makes any parts at all, only puts them together, but I don't know for sure, and I've always had Toshiba tv's in the past, so I'm sticking to what I know, but that may change).  When I buy the lamp, I just go by the code on the lamp, I forget it now (TB25-LMP , I think)
I just did a search for lamps, and it seems there are big differences in prices, from $72 on newegg, to $150 from some Japanese named company which claims the lamp is extremely high quality.
If it is the lamp, I mean my problem, I want to get the best possible, if it makes a difference, the make of the lamp I mean.  Please, any help.
I'm very sorry for the long message.

did changing the lamp resolve your problem with the picture being dim?

  • Why is there a difference between LR4 image and PS-CS5 version which is much darker

if i get an image to look great in LR4 (v. 2012) after upgrading the cat from LR3,(version 2010) -  and it looks great in the new develop mode, then I open  up the image in the latest PS CS5, version 12.0.4 x64,  the image then looks much darker in PS and in no way matches the image in LR 4.
    NOT ACCEPTABLE! WHY, Adobe??
I'm on a 64 bit Mac, OS 10.6.8  -- my catalogue settings in LR are for the largest monitor, highest preview, don't discard... and it writes changes immediately to xmp
is it because the RAW processor in PS doesn't yet match the one in lightroom? and it won't be the same till CS6 is out, and I upgrade to that?  Adobe says all my software is up to date. How do I get things to match? never had this problem with LR3 or any earlier version. What's up?  I'm not on the beta - i just downloaded the real thing from Adobe - read all about it online and I've been very comfortable wiuith LR for years, but I should be able to hit command E on my mac and open it up in PS, looking exactly the same in PS as the image in Lightroom. the new develop mode in LR4 is awesome - so much better than LR3 which was so much better than 2. Why is this happening? How do i get the images to match? what am i doing wrong, if anything? any clues anyone? thanks in advance.          ( would love to include a sample, but I don't see how i can attach a scressn shot of the two.)
    anyone?
    owen

thanks for replying, Jeff. You may be a user ( that sounds funny )  but you are certainly one well connected user.  thanks for getting back,
I just click command E  using the shortcut for "edit in CS5." I never go to the menu, if i know the shortcut.  My basic color settings for PS has for years been what i have set up as a ProPhoto /rel. colorimetric color space on both PS... and in LR, my edit in PS-CS5 set up is for a PSD in 16 bit ProPhoto as well - should look the same, right?  You'll probably scold me for saving as a layered PSD instead of a layered tiff - I can't remember why - but I do have my PS preference set for ALWAYS maximize PSD and PSB compatability. Could you give me your advice and reason for tiff vs PSD. I hear that PSD can be "less efficient" than tiff with respect to metadata updates. Not sure exactly what less eficient means or what problems may arise with PSDs.
Years ago I got into RAW files with the D65 workshops with Seth Resnick and Jamie, before there ever was a lightroom - in fact i first downloaded the first ACR plug in from adobe before it became a part of PS -    ( early 2003? ) - and perhaps you pixel geniuses don't always see eye to eye on certain things but i respect both of your opinions and your work and I'm thankful that you are both out there helping us... and Thomas and all the hard working people at Adobe too.
So...  after posting, in the deveop mode in LR4 - I switched process versions from 2010- (there was a slight change)- then i switched it back to 2012 - then reopened the file ( exported it to CS5 ) in PS - and lo and behold - it all looked good. the lightroom and PS versions looked like a match - perhaps I should chalk this up to user error. not sure.
that said,  when i take a canon CR2 file and just drop it into PS on my dock and it opens in CS5's ACR - I still see the ACR equivalent of LR3- which is to say - the exposure, recovery, fill light system- not the new development modality of exposure/contrast - highlights, shadows, whites and blacks -- do you know if we have to wait for CS6 to see the new ACR that matches Lightroom4 - or is an update soon forthcoming? what do you say, Big Guy?
and many thanks for your attention, your knowledge , and your sense of humor.

  • After screen replacement, top half of screen starts by looking normal but then fades to black while bottom half stays bright but with images blury. What might went wrong?

A friend recently gave me their old Macbook pro 15 because they broke the screen and the Apple store quoted them $500-600 to fix it. I looked online and bought a screen of ebay for $170 in hopes of fixing it myself. After getting the screen I hooked it up using the steps I found online. Sadly when I turned it on, the top half of the screen was working apparently normally, but then it faded to black. The bottom half stayed bright with color the whole time but the images were always blurred. When I close the screen with it on, then open it after turning the computer on, the top half lights up with my desktop images as if it is working fine but then fades to black. The bottom is still blurred the whole time. What all could be wrong? Display cable, Inverter cable, not registering the screen or something, the screen is bad? I don't now a ton about all this and I have learned most of what I know from online research. I am not sure if I should send the screen back or if there is another issue. I just want to fix this thing.

Unfortunately, you don't even know the lower half of the computer is working properly, because you didn't have it until after it had been abused. So forget the attached screen for the moment. Connect an external monitor to it, fire it up, and see whether you can get a usable image on the external screen. If you can, send the defective "new" screen back for a refund, or replace the LVDS video cable first to make sure that's not where the problem lies, and if it isn't, then resort to sending the screen back. If you can't get a good image on the external, give the junk machine back to your friend and walk away.

  • Most of the top half of my Edit Menu in Safari is grayed out.  How can I get it functioning again?

Yesterday and today the top half of my Edit Menu in Safari 5.1.10 is grayed out and unusable.  I have tried everything I can think of including reinstalling Safari, repairing permissions, restarting.  I am at a loss.  Can someone tell me what to do to get the menu working again?

I'm replying to my own question - I have no idea what has changed in five hours, but I just logged on again to see if anyone had repllied to my question - and the problem is fixed!  A total mystery to me, but thank you anyway.  I think these discussions are of great help when you have a problem and no "guru" to go to.  Thanks.

  • We have an iPhone 4S and can only see the top half of the screen.

We have an iPhone 4s and can only see the top half of the screen.  The phone works fine as far as making calls and you can kind of text, if you can figure out where the keypad is.  Is there a fix for this or is it trash?  It is out of warranty and we don't have insurance on it.

  • Why would links or search bars on the top half of the page not work on any site when i use firefox but work fine in IE?

links and search bars on the top half of pages dont work and its not that i click them and they dont work but it wont let me click them its like it doesnt see them

Recently, the Yahoo Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to overlap invisibly over the top of the web page display. If you have either or both, uninstall or disable them/it, or see if an update is available that solves the problem.

  • Top Half Becomes Black Again, After Removing Update

Hi, I'm very unexperienced as I have just gotten into video editing so bear with me when I do not know what to do.
On a recent thread, the cause of the top half of the screen being black was do to a Microsoft update, which I had removed the other day and successfully fixed the problem.
However, after opening up the program (Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0) today I imported a new file into a new project which resulted in the top half being black again. Yes, my files are in WMV because I am just a YouTuber and the format suits my basic editing and filming just fine (I have seen many arguements about how 'dumb' it is to use this format) and that's what format my camera spits out. I have made sure that the update doesn't reoccur, but the issue is back. Help?

  • Objects and Images Printing Much Darker When Sent to Press

So, I'm sure this has been addressed multiple times in many other threads, but for the life of me, I can't find one that addresses my specific issues.  So here goes...
When producing ads or catalog layouts with drawn objects, be it solid or gradient filled, or when adding color photos to the design, it always happens that everything turns out much darker on their end.  It's frustrating and I don't know if it's something I'm not doing, or if it's something in the offset printing process...  Advice would be appreciated.
I am currently using ID CS5.5, and am an intermediate to advanced user, but when it comes to color management...I'm lost.
It's disheartening sending out great ads and layouts when they come out so crappy on their end.  (PS...forget about asking for proofs, cause I've asked for years on projects like mass catalog printings, and they just don't do it...so I need to work around that).  Thanks guys and gals!

its one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions.
as pete said, colour calibration with your monitor may be a factor, but there are many other items to consider, such as:
    * the quality of the light in the room in which the monitor is in;
    * whether the images being printed are beyond the max ink weight for the paper (an uncoated stock will have a lower max ink weight than a coated stock)
    * what RGB-CMYK conversion is being used. to demonstrate this, try this - take an RGB pic, make it CMYK using the SNAP newsprint profile and save it as 1.tiff. then, go back to the original RGB pic and make it CMYK using the COATED FOGRA 39 profile and save it as 2.tiff. now, place both pics into indesign and go to the seps preview and compare the picture qualities side by side.
there are also issues which may be present at the printer's end, but I won't speculate as to what they may or may not be doing. instead, it is worth having a chat to your providers. Providers interested in your work normally take the time to provide as much information as they can.
it seems to me that if images are constantly coming out darker, that the max ink weights for the stocks being printed on are being exceeded. when submitting ads/prints, are you using the ink limit preview in the seps preview panel and checking it against the max ink weight suggested by the publisher or printer?

  • External projection much darker than the source

I am using a mini displayport to vga adapter and the external image is much darker than the source running on my mbp. this is going into a mixer then out to a projector. I also have an old pre intel powerbook that is doing the same thing(into a mixer and out to a projector) with s-video , with no problems at all.
this is a recent problem with the mbp,6 months ago it worked fine.
could it be the new os? if so how do i get back to the one i need?

I am having the same problem with my brand new MacBook Pro connecting to a video projector with a Mini-display to VGA connector. Many of the pictures are darker
than they should be. In PowerPoint I had to go to those darker slides and lighten them up (brightness up and contrast down). Now they are tolerable, but they still look better on the Mac screen than the projected image. Have tried three different projectors and find the same result. Projected colors are quite a bit different also. Puzzeled in Pennsylvania

  • Images seem to print much darker than they appear on screen?

I have been using iPhoto to create cards and then I later save them as .pdf files so I can take them to another mac connected to an Epson 1400 printer and print them. Prior to making the cards in iPhoto, I do basic levels and auto color adjustments in Photoshop. Some of the cards that I am printing seem to be so much darker than the way they appear on screen. I understand that there is a differene between what is presented on a display and the way something may print, but the difference is so drastic. Is this something to do with iPhoto?
    Thanks.

    rick.pearl
Because every maker of computer, software and printer have a different definition of the various colors Apple and others got together to agree definitions that would work together. So if you assign a color space to an image - sRGB, say - then any software or hardware that respect the color space will be using the same meaning for 'green' or 'blue'.
In iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, check the box for Embed Color Sync Profile, and this will embed a profile on every pic you add from now on.
As to the one's already in, Old Toad has kindly created an Automator action that will add an sRGB profile to pics already in iPhoto. You can downlaod it from here.

  • Top half of video is missing on imported WMV files. Running  CS3 & Win XP Professional

Top half of video is missing on imported .WMV  files. I'm running CS3 Adobe Premier Pro with Win XP Professional OS
    Hi all,
I just installed my Adobe Premier Pro CS3 for the very first time. I then IMPORTED a WMV file into the Project Frame and  then Dragged & Dropped it into the Time Line. All the windows (or Frames) Project Frame, Source Frame and the mini-Project Frame show this video with the top half missing. I’m running Win XP Professional with the latest Service Packs installed.
    Please Help.
    Thanks
    Derek

After Searching the net for a while here, I found a solution to the "Half Screen" problem!
The half screen video problems seen while trying to play WMV files in my CS3 Adobe Premiere Pro program seems to have been due to a recent Windows software Security update made to it’s Windows Media Player programming. As soon as I removed that update, my WMV files now show normally within Adobe Premier Pro.
If you wish to uninstall this Windows Patch / Security Update on Win XP Machines:
No#1 Prior to removing/un-installing the file, shut off "Windows Automatic Updates" and set update preferences to manual. Thus in the future you can select which Updates you want to instal (and which one not to instal)  *remember to ignore the KB2834904 update in the future! That is at least until Widows fixes this Security Update / Patch.
    A) Go to "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel
    B) In the Add/Remove Programs, check the "Show Updates" box located at the top of that window
    C) Scroll down to "Windows XP Software Updates" and within that section, scroll down to "Security Update for Windows Media Player" KB2834904 (mine was dated 7-10-2013)
    D) Click on the REMOVE button and re-start your system.
If using Win 7 Operating System: to remove this Patch / Security Update the file to remove is: KB2803821 - In Windows 7, go to "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel, click on the "View installed updates" link in the left sidebar, search for KB 2803821 and click REMOVE.
    Good luck everyone!

  • Opening PDF at nameddest works for top half of page

How do I get a PDF to open at the bottom half of a page using named destinations without the PDF opening at the next page?
    Steps I've taken:
    1.  Created bookmarks, which work correctly for each item on a page
    2.  Created named destinations for each bookmark (that is, I clicked on the bookmark to take me to the text, and then I created a nameddest)
    Results:
All bookmarks work correctly and go to the text I want.
Only the named destinations that go to the top half of the page work correctly.  If the named destination is set up to go to text in the bottom half of the page, it doesn't go to the text I want.  Instead if goes to the top of the following page.  Is there a way to fix this problem?

Called 800-APL-CARE. Determined failure was due to getting caught in the rain yesterday (shorts got pretty damp, but I didnt think damp enough to cause a failure like this). Apple tech reminded me that 1st gen iPhone was quite susceptible to moisture intrusion (speaker holes and headphone jack most notably, as we all know). Unfortunately, moisture damage is not covered under warranty, so I am screwed.
Was planning on upgrading to 3G iPhone anyway, but the lack of stocking at my local AT&T stores leaves me in a tough spot right now, with an important business trip planned this week. Perhaps I should get a disposable phone and pull the SIM from my iPhone and use it until I can get my hands on a 3G iPhone?

  • My keyboard only shows the top half of the letters

My keyboard only shows the top half when I go into the app app and I cannot put in my apple id or password because the keyboard is not showing

Is this happening when using the App Store or some other App?
Try to rotate the iPhone and get the keyboard to appear in landscape view or on the flipping the screen while keeping it in portrait mode.
If that doesn't do it, try following along with this Apple doc -> iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
