Top posting in Mail

Is there some way to inhibit top posting when composing a message in Mail (Leopard)? Top posting places your reply text above the quoted text, which means you have to scroll to the bottom and read up to follow a thread of the messages being quoted.
This option disappeared somewhere in Tiger (10.7?) but had hoped it would come back with 10.5

Right, there used to be an option so the cursor would automatically position itself at the bottom of the quoted text, so you didn't have to move it yourself. This was "normal" until some time ago in a version update of Tiger. Now it, and Leopard both seem to default to top-posting. I'm looking for a hint to revert to the old behavior without having to move the cursor manually, like you are doing.

I always see the attachments in the bottom of my email where it becomes difficult to scroll down to look to the attachment. Sometimes it gets wired if the mail is long.
I am also using Android where the attachment is viewed at top and same was the case of Blackberry. How could Apple miss it?

Adding a line to the top of the mailing label

Hi,
I am a high school band teacher trying to send out letters to all of my students. I have the kids mailing addresses in Address book, as it doesn't appear I can do labels from Numbers or Pages. I used to do this with appleworks, but the school district has removed it from our machines.
Anyway... I need to put the line "To the parent or Guardian of" as the top line of the label... is there a real way to do this, or do I have to put that as the child's name, and then put their actual name in the company field... thereby accomplishing my task, but also making my iphone full of people named "To the parent or guardian of"?
Seems like a simple thing you should be able to do, but I can't find any way to edit it.

Labels & Addresses will let you customize the address in anyway you like. Furthermore, if you need to print multiple addresses, which seems to be the case here, merge printing will allow you to print addresses for multiple contacts. The program integrates with Address Book, so you can easily use contacts stored there.

10g post install mail configs

What post install configurations need performed in order to send mail? I am able to send mail to the mail domain I configured in OCS. I cannot send mail to any other mail servers. The error i get is:
The server rejected the following recipient(s):
[email protected]
Please correct the error and try again.

I feel silly not being able to get this to work, but I've done the following and it still does not allow me to send mail from computers using clients other than the portal/webmail:
Went to EM on the apps tier at: apphost:1156/
Clicked on the "Administration" column icon for Mail Application
Clicked Policy, Incoming mail
Went to Trust and added:
subnet to Client IP addresses
domains to Client Domains
my domain to Sender Domains w/ MTA auth off
"*" to sender domains w/ MTA auth on
Made sure to save settings. Restarted the Mail Application.
All I am trying to accomplish is to allow any computer to relay mail through this SMTP server as long as the user is authorized/logged in.
Am I doing this in the wrong place? Could someone offer some details as to where/what I should be changing to get this to work?

Post-Upgrade Mail Problems

After upgrading on both a Mac Pro and MacBook Pro I encountered several problems with Mail.
On MacBook Pro:
Unable to receive email for certain accounts
Was able to delete the offending accounts and add them and this solved the problem.
On Mac Pro:
Unable to receive email for certain accounts
Am unable to add accounts. When going through either File: Add Account... or Preferences the result is the same: nothing happens when Add Account... is selected or the + in Preferences is selected.
I've been working with Apple Support and had them remote access the desktop and they seem to be scratching their heads. Thought I would try here and see if anyone else has not been able to get the File: Add Account... window to appear and how the problem was fixed. I had no problems whatsoever with Mail prior to the upgrade.

I updated a 10.6.4 server to 10.6.5.
The server is open directory master, and yes, there were huge problems with the following symptoms :
- LDAP server broken
- directory services process using more than 100% cpu
If I checked a directory services log, there was the following error :
Misconfiguration detected in hash 'Global SID'
Group 'com.apple.sharepoint.group.5' (/Local/Default) - ID 406
Group 'com.apple.accessremoteae' (/Local/Default) - ID 406
So there was a duplicate not in the LDAP configuration but in the local users directory : a duplicate of ID 406.
As I didn't have time to restore all server from backup, I was able to delete the duplicate ID, restore directory services from backup, and then it came back to normal.
Other services were not touche, but I don't use email services.
DNS was not broken.

We have developed a site for a greeting shop.. Here we have few sanple cards to be send on an occassion.
The problem here is, we need to send a mail on some other day(day selected by him - greater than today) automatically.
like in greetings.yahoo.com..

How about a class extended from java.lang.Thread or implementing java.lang.Runnable which stores "mails for future sending" and checks maybe every minute if a mail has to be sent...

Automate iWeb Blog Posts from Mail

Would it possible to use Automator to fetch text from an email with a keyword or from a certain sender that would then be put into a blog post in iWeb? I know that there is an "iWeb Action Pack" for Automator that gives it similar functionality when adding pictures or movies.
I ask because I'm looking to be able to post blog entries from a Windows computer at on the go or elsewhere. Does that seem feasible? If not, why not? If so, would you please suggest a reference I could use?

How do I stop Apple Mail from defaulting to Oldest Msg at Top?

AppleCare on my iMac just ended. There are many bugs in Apple Mail but the most frustrating one is that Sort By Date at the top of the mail screen ALWAYS defaults to Old Msg at the Top when I have always had the NEWEST Msg at the Top. "Organize By Conversation" also did the same thing but now seems to stay off, which is what I want. I have even restarted after my daily selection of Newest Msg at the Top from the pop-down and while I worked it changed back to Oldest Msg at the Top. There HAS to be a way to fix this, and AppleCare didn't seem to care about it anyway.

How do you jump to the top of the inbox in mail?

I have a large number of emails in my inbox and there does not seem to be away to jump directly to the top of the inbox. Tapping at the top of the screen jumps to the top of a mail, or web page but does not work for the inbox.

You have to tap above the list of emails at the place about 1/4" to the right of the wifi icon and at the intersection of the blank black area to the right of the wifi icon and the gray border of the email app.

HT2500 How to copy all addresses in mail and export CSV?

I've got 250+ addresses that I can access when sending email. I want to export those addresses into a .csv form to be able to import them to another mail program. If I go through Address Book I will only get 66 vcards and will not have the rest. Any ideas or workarounds?

Some of us like to advise against storing ''anything ''in the Inbox, let alone adding to it your Sent messages.
The setting you mention will start saving sent messages immediately. It's up to you to move historic messages from the proper Sent folder to wherever you want them. Be aware that if the account uses IMAP, it may take some time for the client (Thunderbird) and the server to get back into step.
I file my messages in different folders according to who I'm corresponding with (family), or the project the messages relate to (at work). So yes I too want replies filed alongside the messages they respond to. I go about this by using an add-on, "Copy Sent To Current" which modifies Thunderbird's storing strategy for sent messages, and can be set to prompt me to choose when sending.
Another approach you may prefer is Conversations, as in gmail, where the messages in a to-and-fro conversation are strung together. However in most business correspondence, it's customary to simply top-post at the top of the incoming message and send the whole thing back, so it becomes less necessary or useful to store all the messages anyway. Each message is in itself a summary of the conversation so far.
In either case, typing the appropriate words into the add-ons window's search box will find suitable add-ons for you.
