Top right menu bar keeps having Pinwheel

I have a 2011 late year edition with Mountain Lion. every thing use to work fine now after I've been running it the top right menu wont work keep giving me the pinwheel. tho only thing that works is the notification center (all the way to the right) and the time is stuck. after restart it all works fine! Please help!!!!

Hello, here's the cure on older OSes, not sure on  10.7/10.8, but...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions...
You've probably got a couple of corrupt preference files.
Move these files to the Desktop for now...
/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences>com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost>com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist
where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
This will reset your Menu Bar to the default, you'll need to go through System Preferences to reset the ones you need. (If they are already checked, uncheck them first and then recheck them).
Reboot.

  • Top right menu bar freezes

The top right menu bar freezes, the time reamins frozen and when the mouse is put over it the spinning ball comes on and nothing responds on the menu bar. Shutting down or restart stops at the clear screen and I need to use my power button to shut down and restart?
Any one able to help me?

Try opening Activity Monitor from your Utilities folder, make sure all processes are being displayed, and then look for the SystemUIServer server and see if there is a note in red that it is not responding. If so click on it to select, then click the red Quit button at the top of the window and click Force Quit when the dialog box comes up.
If this is the problem you are having problem interactions between SystemUIServer, Spotlight and some other menu bar extra. Remove all menu bar extras (you can hold down the command key, then click and drag off the menu bar). Add back items one at a time until you find the one that is a problem. If you are using StuffIt Deluxe with a menulet, that is ALWAYS a problem. There are others as well (the Classic menulet does mine in).

  • I have a new MacBook(2012). Being a new Mac user, I do not know what to do when Safari doesn't open at all. The icon just bounces up and down and when the cursor is on the top main menu bar it is the spinning rainbow wheel.  Any ideas for help?

When I try to open safari the icon stats bouncing and then nothing happens other than the cursor turning to a spinning rainbow wheel when it hoovers on the top main menu bar. I have shut down and restart several times. My safari worked yesterday and then today this, but with. I indication of a problem. I can't even get the browser window to open so that I can clear caches or reset anything. When I opened my computer this time I don't even get a bouncing icon. No recognition of selecting the program at all. If I go to spotlight and try to open safari from here I still get no response. Can you help?

    Hi ...
If you have moved the Safari application from the Applications folder, move it back.
As far as the cache goes, there's a work around for that when you can't empty the Safari cache from the menu bar.
Go to    ~/Library/Caches/com.aple.Safari.Cache.db.  Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Try Safari.

Recently when I search for things in the top right search bar in iTunes, the results show up but I cannot click on them. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Go to this address: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?country=AU
Item 24 lists 3 installable major search engines for Australia.
You can also restrict your search in Google by including ''country:au'' or ''location:au'' or ''city:perth'' (for example) in your search terms. Example: ''city:sydney plumbers'' in the Google search box will list plumbers in cities named sydney.

  • My imac menu bar keeps flashing

my mac os x menu bar keeps flashing. i cant even click on them cos it keeps appearing and dissapering. any help please

First you must figure if this is a system issue or user issue. IF you can, create a Test User. If the test user is affected Reset the NVRamm (Hold Command,Option, P, and R upon restart until you hear a second start up chime).
Repair disk in disk utility boot to The Mac osx install disk (hold C with the disk in upon restart. On the toolbar go to utilies and run disk repair on macHD). and repair permissions too
If that fails an Archive and install is an inconvient option
If its a  user specific it can be more complicated an Archive and Install may not. I would try pulling out the Com.apple.Example.plist files (They are found in (homeuser)/library/prefrences
i would try finder plist first then maybe even all of them if it comes down to it.

  • Airport icon in menu bar keeps disappearing

The Airport status icon in the menu bar keeps disappearing.
Even when I go into System Preferences/Network/Airport and activate the showing of the icon there and then click the little padlock to prevent changes, at the next startup the icon (almost every time= 99% of the cases) is no longer visible in the menu bar.
    Can this be solved?

  • Why does my menu bar keep blinking in the left corner of my screen?

y menu bar keep blinking in the left corner of my screen?

There used to be a disk activity or network activity indicator you could download that would make the uppermost left cluster of pixels flash when the disk or Network was accessed.
I expect you have added some third-party utility that has installed this feature for you.

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

  • Spinning ball pops up every time and the top menu bar keeps flashing

The problem started today, for no apparent reason. I was working with some programs open (not many) when my screen froze. Nothing worked, so I closed the laptop to see if it would return to the home page (where you type the password) soon after I heard the 'apple sound'. The computer was restarted, when opened, there was a gray folder with an white question mark flashing in the center of the screen. I restarted the computer again.
From this time he began to have symptoms that persist until now:
    • Every time I do some action on any application the spinning beach ball appears and for a few seconds the program is locked.
    • The top menu bar - where the icons are located ( bluetooth, dropbox, battery, spotlight, etc.) flashes every 40 seconds.
I use this computer for work and thus can hardly surf the internet.
I hope someone can help me finding a solution to this.

  • SL Upgrade - Standard Account Beach Ball Spinning on Right Menu Bar?

Just upgraded to SL from Leopard 10.5.8. Install went smoothly, went through typical verification of software, etc. Most things look good; I know the forums are flooded with folks having a terrible time, but the only buggy thing so far I've noticed is in one of my two standard accounts. My iMac is a family computer and I have 5 user accounts (1 admin, 2 standard (my wife and I), and 2 limited (one for each of my children). For my standard account only I've noticed that when I try and hover over the Time Machine, Bluetooth, Sound Level, or Time information icons on the right hand side of the top menu bar, I get the spinning beach ball no matter how long I hover. This anomaly happens ONLY in my account, not my wife's standard or the limited or admin accounts.
Here are the things I've done so far in hopes of repairing:
    1) Repaired Permissions
    2) Gone into System Preferences and looked at sound, bluetooth, etc. preferences to see whether the option is for checked for appearing in the menu bar. Strange thing is, even though I can see them in the menu bar, the System Preferences option is unchecked. I've checked and unchecked in various combinations and restarted each time - no luck.
    3) Created a new account - no problems.
Does anyone have any advice on sovling this? Is there a preference file I can delete to fix this. Should I simply create a new account and use it? If so, how would I get all my documents and files from the old account associated with the new account? Not to much worried about my standard docs, but really concernced about getting my Aperture 2 library moved over to my new accounts. Is it as simple as dragging the folders from one user account to the other? The above problem I've described is an annoyance, not a show stopper. I don't want to create more problems trying to fix it.
    Thank you.

Okay, that's fine I'll just use the account I just created. However, how do I associate this account with my other files under the corrupt "USER" directory? Can I just copy over the folders from there? If I do that, won't I be bringing the problem(s) from the old account over?
Again, I'm not really worried about my document files, I can always create new folders and bring them over one at a time. The Aperture 2 library is what I'm concerned about. I can ask over on the Aperture forum though.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Top nav / menu bar extremely slow -- have to use bottom nav. How can I fix this?

Top menu bar is extremely slow -- need to use the bottom nav first. I thought once it was live with own domain name (BC is host, built with Muse) it would speed things up. No luck. The site < http://www.onlyrealgamemovie.com >  is relatively small and has always had this issue. I need to correct this problem ASAP because the film is in "Festival Mode" and starting premiers. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks in advance, Jill

Thank you so very much -- that makes complete sense! The animation is
    only on that opening page.
I need to keep the animation -- I am guessing I should recreate the
Flash so it does not cover the menu?
Or would a faster short-cut work by hyper-linking the menu tabs just on
    that page?
I cannot tell you how helpful this is and how much I appreciate your
    response!
