Top sites arrangement or websites not saved

Hello,
One of three users of my Macbook is unable to save any websites in his Top sites feature. The problem was already there with Safari 4.
I would have understood that bug if my two non-admin users were having the same issue, but it's not the case :/
That account is not blocked by a parental control.
Does anybody please have any kind of explanation, or better, any solution ?
Thanks all.

HI,
First, from the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache. Do that in all accounts. Then relaunch Safari.
Now go here for help with TopSites.

  • Help. My site published but is not saved in iWeb

I am completely flummoxed. I put together a one-page site yesterday and published it to Mobile Me fine. But when I went into iWeb today to make some changes the finished, published version of the site is not there. All I have is the original template from before I started work on it.
How come it hasn't saved into iWeb on publication?
And how do I get the finished version of the site back into iWeb so I can edit it?
    Thanks
    Sarah

First, download  Find Any File  and use it to search for "domain.sites" to see if there are more than one domain file.
If there is try the other to see if it contains your site.  If there is no other domain file but the one in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder, try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home()/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Website not saving passwords

Something recently changed:  website requires password for administrative work.  I enter, go to an area, then I have to re-enter password.  Go to the next step, reenter again.  In the past, login, then can do work.  No one else in my group is having this problem.  Any ideas?

Your profle:   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
If that is the case, update your system software.
Click the Apple  menu (top left in your screen) then click:  Software Update ...

  • Safari Top Sites thumbnail images not updating automatically?

is it happening just with me, or the automatic update of the Top Sites thumbnail images is not working anymore?

It is intentional. When on the Top Sites view, hit Command+R to refresh the images. Supposedly this was done because the previews don't do a good enough job of detecting weird login pages and wifi password pages.
Personally, I'd like it to have an option to go back to updating the images on its own again.

  • Top Sites: Some Site Previews Not Showing

When I add some sites to the top sites page there is not preview of that site displayed. How do I fix this issue? Thanx

Try quitting Safari, then go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete everything in that folder.
Then restart Safari, wait about 5 minutes to be sure it's reloaded the previews for your Top Sites and check to see if they're all there. Post back with results.

  • TOP SITES Does Not Seem to Reflect Actual Usage

I'm really trying to like the Top Sites feature in Safari but there are some things getting in the way.
The biggest one is it doesn't seem to correspond to my actual web usage. I completely cleared my history a few days ago and the Top Sites page repopulated itself with a lot of sites I've never visited. As I've used Safari, some of the sites that I visit frequently have begun to appear in Top Sites and some have not. There are still plenty of sites there that I don't ever recall visiting.
Why does it do this and is there anything I can do to fix it?

Thanks for the suggestion and guidance.
I selected all the options in the Reset Safari tool and emptied the cache. My Top Sites still list all the same pages I don't recall visiting in the recent past (ESPN, LA Times, NY Times, Orbitz, Expedia, CNN, Monster.com for example). The difference is now the Safari compass place-holder image is displayed instead of an icon of the web site. These icons are being repopulated as I type this though.

  • My top sites are blank

I used to have a list of top sites on my Safari Yosemite. A friend, somehow, deleted this top sites and they are not appearing anymore. It's ok for me to reload one by one, but the problem is that they are not being saved anymore... my top sites page is completely blank.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Safari/TopSites.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
☞ Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
☞ In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
☞ What is the Modified date?
If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

  • Regarding Safari; (screen goes crazy when I press the Top Sites bottom)

Regarding Safari; When I open safari everything works fine, but when I press the top sites bottom, the screen goes crazy for a second and then goes to the top sites. It is not fading or dimming from one screen to the other like it use to do. any sugestions. Thanks

Nope, it isn't normal, but I don't know the cause. You might have better luck posting in the Safari forum:

  • 10.6.1. top sites

Looks like they still haven't fixed this ..... after I'd sorted out my iTunes crashing problem, this seemed to be the only glitch, and still only on my iMac.

Yep - I just started having this exact same problem - going form top sites to some but not all (MacRumors, MacWorld, TUAW have problem; BBC ok) sites results in grey screen with coloured vertical lines. Seems as though once on the site no more problems, and navigating site to site direct does not cause problem. I only get lines when going from topsite.
    Started right after 10.6.1 update.
Been through the few suggestions I found (permissions, install, plists) but nothing seems to cure this yet.

  • Safari 4.0.3 - Snow Leopard 10.6.1 - Top Sites visualization issue

Well guys, that's my first post here.
I made a clean installation of Snow Leopard onto my iMac.
The problem is the following :
When in Top Sites and I choose a site with many images, the "fading effect" result in a complete corruption of the image until the page isn't completely loaded. This happens only into Safari, the Desktop is ok.
The VGA is an NVIDIA 130.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards

  • Safari removing pinned top site???

There is one website that I recently added to my top sites. I pinned it, as I do to all of my top sites. The website will stay in my top sites for a few days, and then it will suddenly disappear. I'll re-add it, and it'll disappear again. I've repeated this whole process several times. What is wrong with my Safari top sites?
Safari 7.0.6 on a Macbook Air.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If thata doesn't help, back to the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the desktop.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test again. If that helped, move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash.
And make sure your Mac's OS X softtware is up to date. Click the Apple  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.

  • Safari Top Sites doesn't work (on my system at least)

Open a blank tab or window in Safari ... You get a browser window blank except for a grey history search box in the bottom right corner ... Try clicking the 'Top Sites' icon in the toolbar, and nothing happens (still the blank window with the search box)
    Anyone else seeing this?

I'm seeing the same problem. Even though I've visited a few sites now, Top Sites is still, upon launch, an empty page with a search box at the bottom. As a matter of fact, clicking randomly in the blank, white area will launch a page, which implies that the top sites are "there" only not rendering. When I have a web page open (such as this one) and click on History > Show Top Sites, the page I'm currently viewing remains on the screen but its features, such as links, become unclickable. The "Search" box appears at the bottom of the page, rendered on top of the page I was viewing.
This is definitely more than an issue of a flushed cache.

  • Https websites image not saved in top sites

    OS 10.5.8 with all updates
    Safari 4.0.5
Stopped working a few weeks, I do not know exactly when
Already tried to start again with a fully fresh reinstalled safari
    Example: https://www.creditmutuel.fr/cmidf/fr/
Bug? Something wrong in my own configuration?
    Thanks

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
Safari 4 how-to: Top Sites Browser in a nutshell
If nothing above helps, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari.

  • Before every time I use to open a new tab it comes as top site. Now not anymore and instead is an automatically website calle Only Search. I went to Safari preference I change everything and when I quit Safari all the changes are gone.

Every time I used to open a new tab it comes as top site. Now not anymore , instead it open in a website called Only Search, I went to safari preferences and made all changes but after I quit Safari and open again all changes are gone. I can not change anything and new tab comes by it self with other website.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Downlite" or "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the support article, you may also need to remove this item in the same way:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This malware is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.
