I have just completed a whole semester on SAP which includes various case studies (GBI) on SD, MM, PS, & PP . Later I have focused on making a project on Vendor selection process. Now I would like to write my master thesis in the area of SAP, where the career opportunities are greater in demand. At the same time I would also like to mention that since I am a student of MIS (with no technical knowledge) and I have avery limited knowledge on SAP, I am bit confuse as where to go for my master thesis. I really need help and advise as I am very confuse at the moment. My interest is in the area of Project management & Supply Chain Planning but I am not only restricted to that. Your suggestions are very valuable to me and appreciated a lot. Thanks.

Idoc for Material Master Specific to SAP AFS

You have to learn SAP BW 3.5 along with ABAP and BI 7.0. Because BW 3.5 is the earlier version of BI 7.0.
BO is widely used for Reporting which can work on any database.
It's better to join in SAP Authorized Institutes like the following. It may be expensive.

2. Yash

I am Sarav, Master student doing International Food Business and Consumer Studies from University of Kassel, Germany. In addition I finished my certification in C_TERP10_65: "SAP Certified Associate Business Foundation & Integration with SAP ERP 6.0 EHP5".

Hi! Here's a few thoughts...
1) Take a good look at the SAP SCM site area on SAP.com - http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/scm/index.epx (look at the customer cases - http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/scm/customers/index.epx)
2) Look at HANA - http://www.sap.com/hana/index.epx (think about the amount of data / speed)
3) Look at the SCN Business Analytics Community - http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc
Note: You should think about Mobility Business Analytics - http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/large/business-intelligence/mobile/sap-businessobjects-mobile/index.epx
If I was doing my thesis I would ask... where will the most value...most jobs be both now....and in 3 - 5 years? I would pick at least 1 company to study so that the thesis would apply to a real company or industry...not just something that's in a lab or classroom... make it apply to the real world.
Find a problem that's worth fixing. Find something that helps the product or solution...yes...ultimately helps the customer.
Be focused. Don't try to address to many things. Your starting with a very big topics. Find a compelling issue with your key supporting points.
Write on something your passionate about. There are many, many approaches...I trust you'll find a good one!

Company has consultants and they have already some topics but they asked me to find myself also .Also consult my university.
For Internship ,there is no specific requirement .I would like to do Internship (6 months) and then later thesis.I was just thinking ,if both topic would be same that would be great otherwise its okay.I have some know-how of SAP BASIS.
What about i do Internship in some topic in SAP BASIS and later Master thesis in SAP HANA?Would this option would be good for my future?

You are going to have to be a little more specific. Flash 3D
is something that is only now starting to bloom and hit mainstream
more. To my knowledge, there is only one dominant library:
Papervision 3D. If I were you, I would focus on the hosted,
multi-user solutions in which the user participates in a persistent
world. Both that I know of are based on Papervision. Paperworld(?)
is from the same group that developed Papervision. The other one I
have seen is Alternativa3D from a European/Russian developer. You
could talk about using Collaborative Filtering to predict which
games a user will like better based on which ones he has played the
most, or possibly talk about implementing a predicate
logic/inference engine in Actionscript (yikes, I don't know how
computationally feasible that is). Implementing a Flash particle
system/generator for the clouds might also be an interesting
venture. Anyways, just some ideas.

Yes, there is EHP1 for Netweaver 7.0 but SAP is just requesting customers for the Ramp Up phase.
It means, it's too early to get a date for general availability.

Minor Thesis in SAP XI....Topic Suggestion??

Hi all,
I will be doing a minor thesis in SAP XI as a part of my Masters Program.
I have also spoken to guide about the topic. He said that I can consider any topic as SAP XI is relatively new. I don't have much hands on SAP XI so far.Just as what generally happens at academic level. I am pursuing my Masters in IS and ERP. This minor thesis will be equivalent to 3 subjects.
As far as my supervisor is concerned about the topic he wants some kind of demonstration solution for whatever topic I choose to do research in. At the end of the day it has to be some hands on practice research which I should be able to demonstrate. I tried to find on internet if any research of this kind has been done on SAP XI. I couldnt find a single paper.Also the time duration is around 4-5 months maximum considering extensions periods as well.
So what I want from you all experts there sitting and reading this is to suggest me a topic where minor thesis can be conducted or research can be done. I especially urge all those people who are experts in this area and have done minor thesis before. Please do let me know about the topic and I will get back to you if I have any doubts. I thought as there has not been enough research been done talking straight to SDN forum will be beneficial.
So please suggest me some topics and just give some background information 1st and then where the research has to be done.

keeping the target in mind you have to concentrate on the scenarios, that is scenarios that leads to BPM and Proxies.
for example: I hope you created Message Interfaces for Filt-to-File sceanrio right. concentrate on parameters what you give and try to figure out which parameter is related to BPM in case of message Interface.
see the Idea is to work on BPM not keep doing all R&D on XI server Right.
so practise scenarios which drive to BPM or Proxies.ok
for do some other simple scenarios first like IDOC-File or FIle-IDOC and take FTP as source in File adapter. ok
Next study BPM and Proxies theory.
and Try to relate where exactly you need to concentrate in existing sceanrios, to get working scenarios of BPM and Proxies.

SAP Archive Link (Error in opening file for writing)

I am trying to export a file to a folder in the server using a logical path.
The logical path I am using is MARKETING_FILES. I have changed its physical mapping to 'G:\Segmentation_Exports\<FILENAME>'
I am scheduling the program as a background job. But it gets canceled throwing the following error.
SAP ArchiveLink (file G:\Segmentation_Exports\100AC-$100OFF_201105300730 could not be opened for writing)
The problem occurs only in production. In development and Quality servers the program works fine.
In production, when the mapping is changed back to default i.e., <P=DIR_GLOBAL>/<FILENAME>. the program works fine.
Suggestions to solving the issue??

I would check the obvious things first ......
1) Does the directory "G:\Segmentation_Exports" exist on the Production server?
2) If so, does the SAP user have write access to the directory?
3) If so, was a directory inadvertently created with the same name as the output file?
You can also use transactions SM21 and ST22 for more information about the error.
