Topic revisited: 1.42 processor

Hello,
I have a Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25 with 2MB L3 cache per processor(4 MB total). I had to repost this again because for some reason Mac-pro.com lied to me and told me that a 1.42 processor card won't work in the dual 1.25 machine. Although, I now know that the copper heatsink will fit over the 1.25 dual processor card, I also would like to know if the dual 1.42 processor can be used instead of the dual 1.25 in the FW400 logic board? My machine is a 2003(very last before G5) MDD 2003 dual 1.25 w/2MB L3 + dual boots into OS 9.2.2(not that I need it).
I would like a straight, simple answer if I can swap out the dual 1.25 processor and insert the dual 1.42 processor. Oh, and I might as well ask about the copper heatsink again, as mac-pro.com questioned me and told me that neither the heatsink nor processor will work in a dual 1.25 FW400 logic board.
What is known is of course the bus speed is the same: 167MHZ bus, so to anyone out there: WILL ALL OF THIS WORK in a 2003 MDD dual 1.25 FW400?
Because when mac-pro.com once tried it, they told me sob stories that it would not work and what I would get would be a blank screen or if it did work it would not register correctly on system profiler.
Can someone please tell me once and for all that a dual 1.42 + its copper heatsink will work to replace my dual 1.25 processor in a FW400 2003 MDD logic board?
Thank you and Happy holidays!

I see no reason not to swap out a dual 1.25 for a 1.42. Wish I could find one myself to upgrade another MDD I have. I personally didn't have any issues when I installed a dual card, that was taken from a FW800 machine, on to a FW400 motherboard, and the FireWire speed shouldn't be an issue for the CPU in this case. As far as the copper heatsink is concerned, it will fit and is different only in that it is more efficient.
I have heard of several folk who have gotten hold of a copper HS just to run their machine cooler. Just test to make sure the HS is making good even contact with the CPU and use a good quality thermal compound to ensure heat transfer.

  • Running the Batch Processor from a Java application (on schedule)

    Hello,
I would like to run the Batch Processor (on schedule) from a Java application -- not from the Command Prompt.
To achieve that, I suppose I would need to call a certain function contained in engine/determinations-batch.jar, using perhaps the path to the config xml as an argument.
The trouble is that the OPA developer's guide doesn't mention it (or at least I didn't find it).
    Could you help me out?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Frank, but is there a way to identify this method and its syntax? I didn't find anything so far on the internet or on the dev's guide.
This is the Java main method for the determination-batch.jar file - so the main method has the syntax:
    public static void main(String[] args)
args is an array of strings matching the command line arguments described in the OPA Developer's Guide topic "Configure the Batch Processor".

Adobe Reader does not create PDF files so that is not what is being used by your print layout.
First thing to try is deselecting PDF and using the Word option. That will tell you whether the problem is the content or creating PDFs generally. If it latter, verify that by trying to generate from one of the sample projects.

    Experts,
If my license procurred match with the core factor*cpu_core_count_current of V$license, does it mean I am compliant?
    For example -
Processor type is Intel for which core factor is 0.5
    select cpu_core_count_current FROM V$LICENSE;
    this shows 8
Does this mean I should have 4 CPU license (0.5*8)?

  • K9N2 SLI Platinum - S3 Resume From Suspend - Cache Hierarchy Error

With my system I am running into a strange error when returning from S3 suspend. The underlying error seems to be "Cache Hierarchy Error". It occurs (only sometimes) within a minute or so after resuming from S3 suspend.
I goggled around and did not find out much. I also posted on the AMD user forum. No response. So I RMA'ed it. In the 2 weeks it took to receive a replacement I used my old AMD 5400+ processor. I had no problems with that processor in the entire 2 weeks.
I received a brand new (boxed and sealed) 9850. Ran for a day OK. Now I am receiving the "Cache Hierarchy Error" again.
From the forgoing facts I am positive this is NOT a AMD processor problem.
I am guessing that this error is showing up because the MB is not supplying enough power to the processor during S3 suspend??
Anyone have any thoughts on this please?
Note - this is NOT and end of the world problem (it does not occur during S1 suspend for instance so I can always do that).
    Thanks:

  • Revisited topic: WILL 1.42 COPPER HEATSINK FIT over DUAL 1.25?

    Hi,
So, I have a power mac G4 MDD 2003 w/1.25 dual processors + 2MB cache/processor. Question: before I order for 56 dollars a copper heatsink, will it fit without any problems on the DP 1.25? I was told that the copper heatsink would provide better cooling to the processors compared to what I have now. Although, my two fans and slot fan are producing EXCELLENT results and no problems(even before all this, it never overheated), I wanted to cool my machine down even further.
Will the copper heatsink from the dual 1.42 fit on top of the dual 1.25 processor card? I looked at both the processors and heatsinks and they all look identical.
56 dollars from mac-pro.com for the copper heatsink is a BARGAIN! As well as for $245 a 1.42 processor, but I don't need an extra 10-13 percent increase. I am only after the processor.
Also, I am in the market for a nice not too expensive LCD monitor. I am running a Sony 19inch CRT and is very very nice, but HEAVY!! I want something comparible to the 19inch monitor that I have.
What LCD screens or cinema displays would someone recommend for me? I have DVI and ADC. Without knowing really the difference in performance between the ADC and DVI, should I go DVI?
I am not looking for a 30 inch or any fancy-shmancy either. Just a nice comparible/replacement to get rid of this 19 inch WEIGHT off my desk!
    Thanks, and happy holidays!
    Nadav Ben-Ami

Well, I placed the dual 1,42 copper heatsink into my dual 1,25 mdd 1mb L3 per CPU. I don't think 2mb L3 per CPU would make any difference. I really don't know about the terminal pipe of the heatsink, not sure about any coolant inside it, what I can say the CPU temp dropped significantly when I swapped the original aluminium heatsink with the copper one. I also own a dual 1,42 and the temp is about 5 degrees (C°) higher than the dual 1,25 "coppered". BTW I added more fans (now my Mac's got 9 inside)
and modded the AppleFan.kext, in order to startup the lower big fan at a lower temp. The Machine with full CPU usage doesn't reach 54 (C°) during winter and 59 during hot summer.

  • Problem using Image Processor from Bridge

I have been using the Image Processor to process photos from Bridge for quite some time. However, I recently received an error message when I try to initiate Image Processor from Bridge and I have not been able to find any help topics that address my problem: I select images in Bridge to process, then click "Tools>Photoshop>Image Processor". Photoshop opens and the familiar Image Processor dialog box opens. Item 1 in the dialog box says "Process files from Bridge only" and has the number of files I have selected in parenteses. I select the file type and other settings in #3, and preferences in #4. When I click "Run", I get an error message window that says: "Script Alert. There were no source files that could be opened by Photoshop". The Image Processor works if I open the files in Photoshop first, then run it by selecting "File>Scripts>Image Processor" and tell it to process all open files.
Would someone be able to help me with this problem?
    Thanks, Larry

Usually when it worked before and not now, and you have added no new software or hardware I recommend resetting the preferences.  Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the Bridge icon to start.  You should get a reset window with 3 options.

  • Can I upgrade my processor from i3 350m to anything better?

Perhaps an i5? & What is the socket#? Because I've read that i3 and i5 have the same socket. Is this true?
The lady on the phone from HP customer support said I cannot, but because of how she assisted me and answered other question I asked, it left me to assume she did not know very much about computers other than the basics which I know. I mean I know when I had a P4 desktop I was able to upgrade it to an even better P4 and make it last a bit longer. Now I'm concerned about how fast this computer CPU will be outdated, so I've got to be able to upgrade it becuase I've twice as much for this laptop than I would have for a twice as better desktop, so this has got to last.
Surely there must be something I can do to keep this in date right?

    You can upgrade!! but..
i can smell that your computer is under warranty... then please forget about it, doing so will void the warranty as the processor is not a customer accesseable part..
However if your computer is under warranty... please tell me the product number (p/n) written on a white sticker at the bottom of the notebook and the current processor model.. (if possible)

  • Table contained in a topic causes slow response when working with source

I am using RoboHelp V8.0.2 (I have applied the two fixes available from the Adobe product site).
    Here is my issue:
I am documenting a product that has over 1,500 metrics.
I am trying to make a list of 1,077 metrics in one topic (all the metrics are of the same "type" so they are grouped together).
The table presenting these metrics has two columns, a Field Name column and a Description column.
There is not a lot of text within the table - most of the explanations and calculations are defined outside the table.
When I have more than about 400 table rows, the response time working with the topic in source is just horrible.
It took 3 minutes to open the topic in source, another 3 minutes to move the table over .425in from margin.
When I try to close the project, it gets hung up.
Has anyone else run into a problem working with tables within a topic?
I had a similar response time issue with V8.0.0 in general when I first installed it.
Once I installed the two fixes, that problem was (for the most part) eliminated.
I think the second fix specifically addressed response time issues when working in source.
I am going to try this on one of my other writer's machine to see if it is the age of my computer.
    My computer setup is:
Dell Precision work station with an Intel Xeon 2.40GHZ processor and 2MB of RAM.
I am using Windows XP Professional 5.1.26 Service Pack 3.0.
I have a 110 GB hard drive with 18 GB available.
As always - thanks for any insight or information.
    Michael F Weart

    Hi Michael.
Interestingly the maximum number of rows you can use when you create a table via the Table > Insert > Table menu item is 100. That said, I've just created a 500 row table and whilst it is slower than a smaller table it is OK. I am also using RH 8.0.2 but on a higher spec PC.

Maintenance and service guide for G62 laptops:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02542102.pdf
Q2: I think so. The service guide says that it's possible for model 1.1 only. Product specs for G62-361tx say that the hard drive is a 320GB 5400rpm and this hard drive is available for model 1.1 only. I think that you may use a 4GB module anyway, the laptop might be upgraded up to 8GB of RAM..
    Q1: Upgrade definitely possible to:

  • Why in the world is the most current version of firefox AND flash having TONS of problems playing hulu videos? either chewing the crap out of my processor but playing ok, or chewing the crap out of my processor and not even playing video at all?

used to be firefox and hulu got along just fine, never had my computer get retarded slow or any of the other things its currently doing while there's a tab open with hulu... but here lately its been eating the snot outta my processor (between firefox.exe and plugin container the two are consistently using 100% of my processor... most of it being firefox.exe itself)
and tonight i cant watch hulu at all. the video shows a frame then its another 10-15 seconds before another single frame is showed.
my firefox is the most current version.
my adobe flash player plugin is the most current version.
there's no reason this should be happening but it is happening and its friggin annoying
    ============================
this happens anytime i'm in the part of hulu that has the player for showing whatever episode i'm attempting to watch. when i attempt to watch hulu i have no other tabs open and no other excess programs running on my computer, and firefox+plugincontainer run my CPU to 100% just between those two processes. i can browse around the internet just fine (like checking my email, or even getting to my queue list on hulu, which i have my homepage set as.. the queue list loads fine but the player part of hulu is when things go to crap)
and i just tried the exact same episode of lie to me that i couldnt watch on firefox.... tried watching it on internet explorer and its playing perfextly fine EVEN WHILE FIREFOX IS OPEN.
firefox is my preferred browser and i hope this junk can be fixed somehow.

  • I want to upgrade my processor to a dual 1ghz or higher. What is compatible

I want to upgrade my Power Mac G4 533MHz processor to a better one. I see plenty of them for sale on e-bay but I am not sure which are compatible. I have seen (Apple Power Mac G4 MDD 1.25GHz DP processor) and (Apple Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 733MHz CPU Processor) and (Apple Power Mac G4 1.42ghz Processor Module CPU 1.42ghz). I dont know if the MDD is compatible or the quicksilver. I have googled this topic many times but have seen conflicting answers.
    Thank you for your help.

In the link japamac posted, scroll down to the heading, "12 Volt Power Connector for 4th Mount Point". If you click on any of the small pictures, they will be shown much larger. This picture shows how the author used a nut and short bolt to fix a "loop" or "spade" connector on a wire to supply the required 12 Volts to the fourth lug on these faster processors. No soldering needed, and can be undone in a jiffy.
There is one more issue you may face if your old processor has the cooling fan powered off two pins on the processor module. The new processor will not have those pins, and you will need a 12 Volt fan adaptor (also off a Hard Drive power connector, or even the same power connector) to run the cooling fan.
Some of these adapters have Red, Black, and Yellow wires (instead of the expected Red and Black only). The yellow wire is an RPM output from the fan, and can be safely ignored.
