TopicAlias Markers in FM Imported as MapIDs in RH

TCS 3.5 (RH 9/FM 10).  This would apply to those using TCS for context-sensitive help.  With topicalias markers set in a FM book, the expected functionality 1) link to a project in RH, 2) generate the project, 3) update the project and 4) check your MapIDs editor (in project manager-->context-sensitive help) is anyone seeing the topicaliases converted to MapIDs?
I was able to get this functionaluty work in TCS 2 sometimes (unreliable) and its definitely not working in TCS 3.5.  I am unsure what else needs to be done in the FM docs or RH to get the markers imported into RH.  However, I have noted in another thread how index markers do not seem to be imported either.
If you use this functionality and have seen similar results or able to get it to work, please share your insights.
Thanks,

It works fine in my TCS3 install for both CSH & index markers; I do an import though, not a link.

  • Markers won't import

    Hi,
I've been editing a movie in Final Cut Pro and I've added markers into my movie.
I exported the movie for LiveType, but when i import the (background) movie,
    the markers didn't import.
I did this before and it worked at that time.
Currently, none of the markers appeared.
I know that the markers are in the exported movie, because i can see the markers option when I play it in QuickTime.
Please help, as this is extremely important because i'm making subtitles.
Or you may suggest a better way in making subtitles =)
    Thanks.

LiveType is perhaps the worst possible application to create subtitles.
Digital Heaven offers a free or nearly free subtitle text plugin. Try versiontracker.com for dozens of interesting shareware and commercial products. You must select the tool that will provide you the best workflow. Subtitling is similar to creating captions.

  • Premiere Markers export and import: Roundtrip via FCP XML not working

The objective of my project is to create a sports app that records markers and saves it in different formats of XML / CSV that I can then import in different NLE packages.
I have already succeeded with Vegas Pro but also want to support NLEs for MAC-OS.
In order to approach this analytically I have exported a very simple project with 1 sequence including 1 clip and 3 markers (with length zero and length > 0) and exported it
in FCP XML from Adobe Premiere CC and do a round-trip import it via FCP import into Adobe Premiere CC.
This round-trip does not work. Any insight why or any support what other mechanism will work?
    Thanks
    Thomas

let's go back to the purpose:
I have written a mobile app on which people can during a sports match capture the time of the important moments by pressing buttons.
I then convert the time information into an XML or CSV file that can be read by the different NLE. Given that Sony Vegas allows to import
markers independently from a sequence. Now I look at the same things for Premiere. This allows to edit the highlights very quickly vs watching
    the entire match coverage again.
I try to replicate that on Premiere through the FCP XML, but now that the roundtrip works, the issue is that FCP XML in its structure wants a sequence.
I could imagine to provide a dummy sequence that can be overlayed by the real content just to preserve the markers. Any ideas?

  • Why won't chapter markers in FCP5 import to idvd6?

I recently imported a video project that I created in FCP5 into iDVD6 for DVD authoring. I put chapter markers in the video project with the idea that IDVD6 would create the sub menus. For some reason they are not showing up. I've checked the appropriate boxes in preferances but no luck. Am I missing something? Or is this a bug that Apple needs to fix?
Has anyone else had a problem or a fix for this? Please let me know.

I have also been tearing hair out with similar problems. Found some info similar to those given above. Making sure that chapter markers are at least 2 seconds away from transistions and also away from clip ends( 1second I think is min here). finally after much resaving it all worked as it should.
Now doing seperate project and its here we go again. Have now got chapter markers to work fine but now the clips which are 16:9 are showing up as 4:3 but only when you "play movie" or preview scenes. The menu's look fine.
Something very weird is going on.
The real pain is its soooooo easy when it works..............

  • Markers Not Importing from Prelude CS6 to CC

Hello. I'm using Prelude CS6 and sending to files to someone using Prelude CC. The markers are not importing when he opens the files I've sent. We're only using Subclip markers. Neither of us are particularly familiar with Prelude and I hope it's a simple solution. What can we do to fix this? Thanks.

    Hi,
The marker exchange format has not changed since CS6. So as for compatibility there shouldn't be any issue.
Can you tell me which file format you are using? How did you transfer the files to your colleague? If you are working with a format that writes sidecar files to hold the marker information (these will be files ending in .XMP and will be located next to the essence media file), then you will want to ensure these XMP files travel with your media.

  • Problems with context-sensitive HTML made from importing FM 10 to RH9

This worked in October and it doesn’t work now.
Start with a clean, well-formatted Frame 10 book with multiple chapters.  Chapters, Heading 1, 2 and 3 headings have various FM Markers TopicAlias with ID for calling the help.
    Example of FM marker: ID_HELP_SYSTEM_DEFAULT
Import FM book to RH 9 –pointed to an AllStyles.fm doc as a template, pagination on the above 4 headings, cross-refs mapped, on the Other Settings page the Context Sensitive Help Marker is set to TopicAlias.
Import looks spiffy;  great TOC, Index, formatting, links, everything is exactly like I expected. Create chm file help. It looks great too. This part works well IMO.
My.h file is formatted with Hex number to match the application’s call.
    Example:
    #define ID_HELP_SYSTEM_DEFAULT 0x3F131
    #define ID_HELP_EDITDATASET_TOOLBAR 0x3F132
Rename my mapping h file to BSSCDefault.h and put in root directory replacing the one RH makes.  [When RoboHelp makes an h file, the numbers it assigns do not match what my application calls for. Changing these is not an option. I have hundreds of mapped IDs.]
Reopen RH  and view the BSSCDefault. h file from RH. It has magically changed the Hex numbers to 6 digit numbers.
    Example:
ID_HELP_SYSTEM_DEFAULT              258353      Saving Project Defaults as System Defaults
ID_HELP_EDITDATASET_TOOLBAR  258354      Editing Datasets Using the Mouse
The Mapped IDs are blue and are not locked.  My FM TopicAlias Markers are all listed as Map IDs, I have Map#s for them and they point to the correct topic.  The center panel  shows Assign as grayed out. The project that worked in October looked just like this too, I checked.
Recomplie. Place new chm file in application. It will open from the menu item for Help, it will open from F1 but it will not open from any of the mapped Help buttons.
I uninstalled/reinstalled RH 9 and tried reimporting/compileing with an unpatched version. No change, still borked.
There has not been a change in the application; there are no new IDs in this version. I tried the new compiled help in an older version of my application and it will not work. Same behavior.
Any suggestions? Anyone else have this problem? What am i missing?

I dont use the settings file, I use a FrameMaker doc as a template. It has all my styles and I set the others before the import. There arent very many.
But, since you import from Frame, would you look at this and verify?
Looking at Map File in the Edit Map IDs dialog On the left the panel the Map ID is listed, then the Map # and finally the topic title.
Do your Topics show a notation at the end?
    Example: Averaging Datasets #CSH_71
Then on the Topic panel if you find that same topic you see
Topic symbol -Averaging Datasets   [and the Topic properties show “no map ids for this topic]
Bookmark symbol -Averaging Dataset#CSH_71 [topic properties show the map id when you select it]
    Bookmark symbol -Averaging Datasets#IX_averaging_datasets
    Bookmark symbol-Averaging Datasets#XREF_25075_Averaging Datasets
I understand the Index and cross ref markers, but the isolated book mark is odd. You would think the notation would be on the topic
The chm file from October works in my latest build, and the developers swearz they changed NOTHING in the way it is called. I still have to talk to QM who do the builds just in case.

  • Imported a .h map file, no Map IDs show

Background: RoboHelp 10 project, linked to a FrameMaker 11 book, HTML Help output. No errors or missing resources on update of Fm book.
After linking the project to a Fm book with TopicAlias markers selected for CSH, I imported a .h map file used by the developers and did a Force Update All. The imported map file shows up under the Map Files node in the Project Set-up pod. But when I double-click it, nothing displays in the Map IDs panel on the left side of the Edit Map IDs dialog box.
I thought 1) specifying TopicAlias markers for CSH during link setup, and 2) importing the developers' .h file would map the IDs to the topics.
Am I doing something wrong in the linking or .h import steps? I really don't want to have to manually edit the topic IDs in BSSCDefault.h--there are hundreds of them.

Umm, if you’re using the markers from your FM files to set the mapping, why are you getting something from the developers? In your workflow I would expect you to be sending them your .h file, not the other way round ;>)

  • IDVD how to set chapters markers according to the day

iDVD wont let me set chapters markers according to the day of the trip. No good by minutes! I did have markers in the imported iMovie which have been ignored.

    Hi
iDVD can only set Chapters in time interval e.g. every 5:th minute
iMovie'13 (Version 10.0.x) - CAN NOT set Chapters at all
Rest - You must use the Chapter Mark - Not the Note Mark (it will be ignored)
If You've done this and they do not show up in iDVD - iDVD pref file most probably got corrupted. Trash it and re-try with a NEW iDVD project.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Why did Apple iMovie get rid of chapter markers?

Why would Apple ever get rid of chapter markers in iMovie? That is a really ignorant decision because that's one of the reasons that made iMovie great before. I know there are ways around it, but why would I want to export to another Apple app or a third-party app to add chapters when I can do it in iMovie (pre-'08 version).
It's such a hassle now. If you're making any kind of a movie that isn't going to be played in QT or a computer where you can easily click on the play head - one would want chapter markers to skip ahead or move to a different section of your demo reel or whatever.
    Unbelievable...

I disagree, it is not unfair to evaluate iMovie '08 as done here by previous posters:
iLife '08 is sold as an upgrade to '06, so as a customer, I believe to rightfully expect an upgrade and not a downgrade in many features.
I do agree though, that iMovie '08 does include a lot of easy to use features and is perfect for beginners or users who just want to put their files into a sharable environment, with little effort to make things look good.
BUT: If you did any serious videoediting with iMovie '06, then this program is defnitely a downgrade in terms of options and control. As said, many of the sharing options are easier in '08 but even though a little more complex, managable in '06. Possibly I may also be untypical for not using YouTube as a preferred platform for sharing. Websharing on my personal site and DVDs both have the same priority. And I find better options for my purposes in '06.
I've used '06 for documentation projects up to 4 hours in length. These are too cumbersome in '08, chapter markers being one important factor to me, besides integration with iDVD.
I find the concept of '08 ok for smaller or less demanding projects, so I gave it a try. I was not happy with the result. Though this was before the last major update and I have not again used the program since.
My personal consequence: I will keep an eye on how Apple decides to go on with their consumer movie software. Started switching to Final Cut Express, for now mainly using iMovie '06 and Norrkross Movie. The latter two being my preferred combination on my PB G4.
In my personal opinion: Apple hast taken away a lot of the flexibility the old version offered. I think it would be a better step for many, to step up to Final Cut Express or other.

  • HOW TO ADD CHAPTER MARKERS FOR IDVD

how do you add chapter markers for iDVD import?

FCP does not have that capability. You can add chapter markers in Compressor, but that would be another recompression step, and you can dd them in GarageBand. Perhaps it might be best to add them in iDVD. Can you add them in iDVD?
It would be an excellent feature request to have them in FCP, though I'm not sure how they would implement it.

  • Render Markers to Files OR Create Sequences From Markers

This may have been asked before, but here goes (and yes, I did a search...extensively here and google):
Is there a way to set markers within a long sequence containing begin and end times. Either automatically create multiple sequences or video files with the same name as the marker.
I need to do this because I shoot long form Church services (1.25 hours) and need to output the Worship team performances separate from the sermon prior to upload. Currently, I have to duplicate the long video 6-7 times and set the in/out times to correspond to the markers. Then rename the sequences as the markers and then import them all to Media Encoder.
Vegasaur (a plugin for Sony Vegas) has this functionality. Much quicker and easier.
    Thanks.
    Wally

No, I'm afraid you can't do that trick from the iPad's Safari. What I do is take a snapshot of the screen when I want to keep a record. Press the Home and Lock buttons simultaneously real quick. You should hear a click and see the screen flash blank for a second. A snapshot of the screen will then be saved to your Saved Photos album. It's almost the same as having a PDF file of the page.
Oh, and welcome to Apple Discussions!

  • How does Apply CSH Marker work?

How does Apply CSH Marker (on the RoboHelp menu in FrameMaker) work? The help is kind of vague on the subject. I tried using the command but it didn't seem to create a marker and there was nothing added to BSSCDefault.h in RoboHelp.
    TopicAlias markers work as expected.
    Linked FM10 book, RoboHelp 9, TCS 3.5

It should be creating a marker of type TopicAlias with whatever you typed in the popup as the marker text. In the Conversion Settings in RH, you tell it to use TopicAlias markers for mapids. I found that a bit opaque so I created my own CSHMarker and use it (but not by using the Apply CSH Marker thing - manually).

  • Adding annotations throws off Table of Contents links

I asked this a month ago and got no responses...Help is critically needed. When annotations are added, the bookmarks seem OK on authoring machine, but once PDF is opened on another machine, everything thrown off!
I'm involved in a paperless pilot project and am having a difficult time circumventing an issue in Preview.
I'm re-formatting material for executive meetings from WordPerfect, Word, Excel and PowerPoint into bookmarked PDF format in Adobe Acrobat Pro X. When they are opened in Preview by senior management on MacBook Airs, the Table of Contents links everywhere correctly. However, the moment they add an annotation (in this case, notes), the table of contents is thrown one page off, regardless of their place in the document. Even after removing the note, the table of contents does not revert to the proper place. I'm assuming this occurs because the annotation throws off the markers from the imported bookmarks.
Using Acrobat Reader on the Airs isn't an option since annotations aren't possible. We are also really trying to keep production of the PDFs limited to Acrobat Pro to ensure cross-platform compatibility of the Table of Contents.
Has anyone else encountered these issues? Is there a potential workaround?

A lightweight alternative to Acrobat Pro for creating table of contents for any PDF is PDFOutliner (only $5 on Mac App Store.) The TOC links generated by PDFOutliner don't have the problem you've described above. You could open your PDF in PDFOutliner and re-save it (the TOC will be rebuilt) for a quick test.
Note: I'm the developer of PDFOutliner.

  • How do I update linked FM files without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?

    Hi,
I'm using RH 10 with linked FM 11 files to create a WebHelp project and this is what happens when I do an update or force update of a linked file in the RH project:
After the update, the topic that contains updated content gets deleted from project TOC in RH.
After the update, any Map IDs assigned to the topic that contains the updated content are deleted.
Can someone please advise how to update a linked file without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?
    Thanks a bunch!
    Gabe

    HI Gabe,
You will want to link the TOC from FM in your conversion settings, and set the map id's via TopicAlias markers in FM.
