Tor and Privoxy - what script should I start these with on boot-up?

I've got Tor and Privoxy running, but wonder where I should put the commands to start them? .xinitrc doesn't work, because I'm starting at run level 5, ie. logging straight into XFCE4.
I can't put them into the DAEMONS array in rc.conf, can I? *shrug*
Any offers?
Cheers.

Why not? They both provide startupscripts in /etc/rc.d/ which you can add to DAEMONS.
Sweet, cheers man

  • Tor and privoxy

Hi I can't get Privoxy working with Tor.
I followed the Proxy routing with Tor and Privoxy but I can't seem to get it to work.
I want curl to POST stuff into privoxy which in turn gives it to tor. But Privoxy gives this error:
Privoxy was unable to socks4a-forward your request www.test.com through localhost: connect_to failed: see logfile for details
Just try again to see if this is a temporary problem, or check your forwarding settings and make sure that all forwarding servers are working correctly and listening where they are supposed to be listening.
    Privoxy log file:
    Jun 15 20:06:16.001 b75786c0 Fatal error: can't load actions file '/etc/privoxy/default.action': first needed line (409) is invalid: +limit-connect{-}
It says this line is invalid in my default.action:
    #    +limit-connect{-}                     # All ports are OK
Which is an commented line ?
If I uncomment it, I can't even start privoxy because it will give THE SAME ERROR ?!
    My privoxy config: http://pastebin.com/NmtBMw2Z

The weird thing is that, having used tor previously and knowing the speed it has, i noticed, if i enable tor, and browse any page, its like if i were bypassing the proxy and connecting directly to the internet, ignoring polipo and, therefore, tor......
Checking the logs, i can tell that tor is working, but i have my doubts about polipo or my settings with switchy proxy.....
I already tried many times unsuccessfully...
BTW... the default tor config that gets installed with the package is the one that should be used, isn't it? I mean.. you dont have to touch tor's config: Only download the config file from the tor page and place it in /etc/polipo, am i right?

  • The "Logical AND" functoid has place holders. Replace these with appropriate links or constants.

    Hi,
I am getting the below error in the BizTalk Mapper when trying to compile the application.
The "Logical AND" functoid has place holders. Replace these with appropriate links or constants.
Kindly advice the cause of the error.
    Thanks
    Regards, Vivin.

    Hi Morten,
I found the issue!! There were two AND functoids with a invalid input parameter and I removed those and the error disappeared.
Thanks for the helping in finding the cause.
    Regards, Vivin.

  • I have two Apple ID's and one is used for my iPhone, but I want to start using a different one. Will my library still retain the apps I bought or should I start over with a whole new iTunes library?

^^ that's the question... Want to delete the current and start over with the one I've already created, but want to keep all my songs and apps. Is it possible?

You can have apps and music from multiple IDs on your computer or your phone, but you will need the password for each one to install updates or to reload the content. You cannot merge the content from one ID into another, however.

  • What hazards should I watch for with X.3.9?

Just got my powerbook back with a new hard disk. Apple returned it with X.3.9 pre-installed. I'm hesitant to leave it with x.3.9. Before definitely deciding to zero-format and start over with X.3.8 I was thinking about test driving X.3.9 for a few days.
What X.3.9 specific bugs/problems should I look for?
    They also updated my
    iTunes to 6.0.2
    Quicktime to 7.0.4
Safari to 1.3.2 (and keyboard shortcuts already seem to be broken)
    Mail to 1.3.11
I know there were reports that made me decide to stick at X.3.8 but Google search and a search of this forum don't jog my memory as to why. I'm not planning to update to Tiger.

Kappy, I know one must consider the universe of potential complainaints and not just who does the complaining. Nonetheless, I've always been one to let others work out the bugs. If I have no reason to update I sit tight. I discovered like 3 or 4 years after OS 9 was released that Apple was finally saying it was compatible with 604e chips (originally they said it wasn't). OS 8.6 worked well so I still use it in my PM7300.
Also, when I walked in the door of the Apple store yesterday the tech I know was shocked another disk failed. I mistyped when I wrote it's the 3rd disk in the powerbook, I meant to say it was the 3rd one that failed in the powerbook. I'm now on disk 4 since last May when the original one failed. That's why Apple rushed the repair for me. I know these hard disk issues are bizzare.
In contrast, my PowerMac's original disk lasted 6.5 years.
I'm fanatical about maintenance. That's why I lost no data with this disk failure (or when my PM7300's died). The last OS X update horror story I personally experienced was when Software Updater installed old security patches over the X.3.8 combo; Apple Care confirmed that the installed patches shouldn't have been recommended by Software Updater. I did a clean (i.e. zero format install of the X.3.8 combo and ilife updates) and the OS was solid. It would still be in use if certain OEM drives weren't... less than reliable?
Before that I was one of those people who's modem was toasted by X.3.4-X.3.6. Before that I had a powerbook that always tested fine for hardware and couldn't go 5 mins without crashing. One of the hard disks that died in my current powerbook lasted less than 24 hours. It upped and died when I zero formatted it. "Stressing it" with the erasure saved me the tons of trouble of restoring my data before it would have died anyway.
Personally, I think you are over-reacting
Once bit twice shy. Ever since the Apple Genius suggested it, I find doing the zero erase makes it far easier to determine a problem is hardware related and not just an OS gone bad.
I would give what you have a chance before you remove it.
I am trying out the X.3.9 that's installed. I might even keep itunes 6 if I go back to X.3.8: I've been using itunes 4.7. Safari OTOH is really annoying with it's broken/"improved" shortcuts. I'm just trying to get a handle on what sort of problems to be on the look for.
I appreciate your insights on how it's working for you. Tiger's out of my budget so I'll be sticking with Panther.

  • Film look and Pal,what difference should I see?

    Forum,
The Sony HC9E PAL has the option to use "film".
Sony tell me this would record at 24 fps.
What difference would I see between 24 fps and PAL?
Would the difference be apparent when viewing in the canvas?
    Thank you
    Michael Craven
    PS I have FCP6.3

I'm not sure of the standards for pal but I know NTSC DV records at 30i (more specifically 29.97 interlaced frames per second). 24p (p being progressive) means that it will shoot 24 non interlaced frames per second which is the 'look' of 35mm film that you see in the movies.
The difference between progressive and interlaced flows very deep, but the most noticeable is the quality. When shooting interlaced you have every frame divided in half, one half is the odd lines drawn across the frame and the other is the even lines - this is why you get that flicker sometimes, the lines dont transfer or werent interpolated correctly. In progressive mode the frame is recorded and stored as one complete frame and therefore exhibits much better quality. So 24p will give you a high quality film like look while PAL (assuming its similar to the standards of NTSC) will give you a lesser quality home movie look.
    Hope that helped.

  • At what temperature should I start worrying about my MBP overheating?  Anytime I do video or most java stuff, it cranks up to about 180

    15" 2007 MBP
I know these tend to run hot, but when it burns on the touch, I'm concerned something is overheating. Other than a dead battery (that I'm replacing), EVERYTHING else about the machine runs great.  Should I be concerned, or just pay extra attention to providing free flow of air around the underside of machine and the fan output?
    Thanks!
    -Shane

You're my personal genius bar! Yes, the CPU is running hot.  I have the iStat Nano widget and it lists CPU, GPU Diode, GPU Heatsink, Heatsink 1, and Heatskink 2 all listed separately but within about 10ºF of one another. Average temp hovers around 115ºF, but 180ºF is about as hot as it gets.  Seems outrageous to me, but I'll take your word if that is perfectly normal for some processes.
    Thanks for your help tonight!

  • What format should my usb drives be for boot camp

I am Installing Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 on my late 2012 Mac Mini. I have the S/W on my desktop as an .iso format, and my test to check if Boot Camp would find it worked. Now I will be getting an USB drive (my 4GB wasn't big enough so will use it for the drivers), so before going on this process trying to cover all bases. I'm assuming an 8GB thumb drive should be enough. I'm also assuming the 4GB drive formatted in FAT should be ok since Windows 7 has to read it, does the drive for the disk image have to be MAC Ext'd or FAT?
Any help on this is appreciated, I'm pretty new to all this stuff and hate running into problems during this process will be hairy! Any other pointers is greatly appreciated.

Got Win 7 64bit installed with a few problems.
From the start I'm unable to use my wireless magic mouse. It shows up under Bluetooth devices, but can't get it to sync up.
After getting the wireless keyboard synced & working had a number of updates to install. After that the keyboard is not functioning and can't be synced.
Any suggestions, not of the questions I put into this section came back with a solution, might be the question I ask? Can someone link a post in the discussion forum to solve this.

  • Issues with TOR and Firefox

    Hello,
I am attempting to use a combination of Vidalia and the Torbutton Firefox extension to access the Tor network. However, every time I do, Firefox refuses to load any pages, stating that it is connected to a proxy that is refusing connections. My operating system is Ubuntu 10.04. Any help with this problem would be appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Joe
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

I use Tor/Vidalia/Torbutton/Polipio regularly. When I get this message, it is because I am trying to browse normally with the Torbutton enabled (green, Tor is "on") -
Or, I am trying to browse using Tor, it's turned on but Vidalia is not running in the background. If you installed Vidalia so that it does not automatically start when you start Windows, you must manually launch it (I use Start>Program Files>Vidalia Bundle>Vidalia). Give it a few seconds to get connected and then Firefox should work with the TorButton enabled.
In case you do not know, Vidalia launches Tor, and will report if there are any problems with it.
The documentation, tips, FAQs, help, advice and general availability of any practical knowledge on how to use these features is extremely poor, for reasons I am currently being made aware of. Because of this, I am considering starting a Discussion Forum focused primarily on helping people make use of this anonymous browsing technology.
If anyone is interested in assisting with this effort, or has helpful advice, etc... feel free to e-mail me at quickdxtjohnatgmaildxtcom

  • What book should I read to learn J2ee!!

i find that j2ee turorial is a hell of mess!!there's not enough real sample code out there, definition is vague,is there any one who can tell me which book should i turn to or in what way should i familiarize myself with J2ee
    thanks!

thanks, english is my second language,my native is
chinese,so there may be errors!!No errors really. It's a little irritating to the eyes when there are no spaces after the comma or full stop. It's almost similar to writingasentencewithoutspacesinitthatmaynotbeintendedtoirritatesomeonebutitdoeseventually.
is there any book which concentrate on real project? It depends on what your real project is going to use. You can start by looking at the introductory J2EE text and decide which part of J2EE you want to start with. Servlets and JSP are usually the easiest to start with.

  • At what percentage should I charge iPad Air

  • Ibook wont start, turn it on and just get the fan to start up.

    Hi all,
    I have a ibook from early 2004 , 1.2 ghz.
Today i took it out of my bag and turned it on and nothing only the fan started up.
Ive done some reading through the forums here and read that someones ibook wouldnt start up with their airport card installed so i removed that and it started up but only for a couple of minutes, the screen then went black then red then green then blue then white.
I use this laptop to make music and have some new material on it which isnt backed up which is the most important thing for me.
would it be possible to take the harddrive out and put it in an external enclosure to get the data i want from it.
I was planning on buying a macbook soon so saving the actual ibook isnt a priority.
If anyone has any idea what could be wrong with it , i would be really grateful and if i save the music on it i might even send you a free copy of my cd.
Thanks for any help or advise in advance.

The iBook's GPU is a 9200 ATI Radeon Mobility. It is known to be problematic as it has failure rate higher that expected. This chip is not only used in iBooks it's also in IBMs, Compaqs and Sonys. This from Dale at Superior who has seen a lot of failures in these machines. I have a iBook 1.2 12" board with a bad 9200 and am looking for a replacement board/chip. Yes the chip can be replaced but it requires someone who has experience and the proper equipment.
So if someone wants to send me their board I'd be glad to accept it.
If your chip is putting out anything at all it might still be good. Try the shim fix. It's not as easy as the G3 because the 9200 is on the top and shares the heat spreader with 2 other chips. I think the best thing is to apply pressure from the bottom 2.25" to the right of the space between the monitor and headphone output. You'd have to take the bottom off:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/
There is nothing on the bottom to tell you there's a monster GPU chip above it. Try to boot as normal. If it boots properly and seems normal it might continue to work with the shim or you could send it for reball. My guy as Superior is sick so I'm waiting with anxiety hoping he gets better.
    Good luck.

  • Script to replace filename.tif with graphic of same name

Have never written nor used an InDesign script.
I'm using InDesign 3.0.1 and need a script which will replace filenames with inline graphics of the same name in a large catalog (each file has about 250 images).
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks

    Dave
I placed and linked Jpegs in a document with like named tif's placed in a folder. I ran the script, pointed to the folder and it said that no graphics were replaced. The linked graphics were the original Jpegs.

  • What should be started and enabled in SQL express 2008 R2? Shared memory, TCP/IP , named pipes, VIA

I copied my Visual Studio 2008 projects to a new computer and am having trouble getting the database to attach to my website to continue with it.
I uninstalled SQL 2005 express and installed SQL 2008 R2 Express.
When I looked in the SQL Server configuration manager, I wasn't sure what should be running and what should be stopped and what protocols should be enabled, etc so I started everything and enabled everything.
However, the SQL Server Agent will not start. Maybe I did something wrong by enabling everything. I have everything to start automatically, and all enabled:
SQL Native Client: I right clicked and opened and under client protocols, have enabled all: Shared memory, TCP/IP , named pipes, VIA
and under SQL Server Network Configuration, I opened that and under there is listed protocols for SQLEXPRESS AND I enabled same things: Shared memory, TCP/IP , named pipes, VIA
When I could not start the SQL Server Agent before from the SQL Server configuration mgr. I went into services and started it that way and it did start. But since I have rebooted, it will not start that way either and I now get this message: Windows could
not start the SQL Server Agent(SQLEXPRESS) Service on local computer. Error 1067
I'm just trying to get my visual studio project working again. Would appreciate any help. Maybe I should uninstall SQL and reinstall 2005??

Windows could not start the SQL Server Agent(SQLEXPRESS) Service on local computer.
As the others already wrote, with SQL Server Express in Version 2008 the "SQL Server Agent" will be installed, but it's not a Feature of the Express Edition and therefore you can't start & use it.
In SQL Server 2005 Express the Agent was completly missing (not installed), therefore you haven't this "issue" before.
