  • Torch 9800 & Torch 9810

    good day
    i am BB torch 9800 user ... OS 6
there is no update for the 9800 to OS 7
and i see that 9810 use OS 7
am i able to put OS 7 of 9810 for torch 9800 ?
maybe my question will be idiotic for u but nothing wrong for asking ...
                      thanx 4 advanced

    Hello,
No...each OS package is specific to each model number. You cannot use a package for a 9810 on a 9800.
    Good luck!

  • Changing user for Torch 9800

I did get a new phone to myself and will give my well served Torch 9800 too my wife to replace even older Nokia E71. But what is the best way to change user for phone? I am not worried about leaving any data to phone, but I want to change all e-mails addresses, phone set-ups etc.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Whenever you give your phone to someone else, do a security wipe. That way, it'll be like they're getting a new phone right out of the box with no data left over from you.
    I hope that helps you.

  • I can't send a photo by text - New user, Blackberry Torch 9800

I recently started using the Blackberry Torch 9800 and I'm still getting the hang of things.
This means I'm at the stage where i'm still accidentally muting myself while i leave a phone message or putting people on hold with my ear.  If anyone has a master solution for this, that's welcomed, but it's not my main question.
I want to know how to send a photo by text.  I've tried, and it comes up with an x next to it, as it hasn't sent.
i looked around the internet and found the suggestion that I resize my images using some app.  The app they suggested doesn't exist anymore so I downloaded "Fast Photo Editor Free" and resized my image.  It still didn't send.  I made it smaller than you'd ever want an image to be, and it still wouldn't send.
To be clear, I can put the photo in the text, but once I push send, the text shows up with a red x next to it.
I'm not really sure what to do.

  • TORCH 9800 " How to stop the DATA Wiping due to Problems with Password Input "

    PHONE  TYPE:
    Torch 9800 (1256)
    PROBLEM:
On Friday, April 5th ... after several attempts of inputting my screen password I was constantly told by the 9800  that the wrong password was being attempted; which I know I did input the right PW . [ I believe that one key pertaining to the PW string is faulty and therefore not accepting the right character ] . When I had suffered prior password issues after several attempts the 9800 indicated on the screen that I would be locked out for 15 minutes until I could attempt again. This time after attempting what I believe was 9 times I suffered a  "OMG"  (Oh My God) situation where-in I believe the screen indicated to me that information would be erased; at that point I saw a progressive bar appear on the screen with the word "WIPING"  and I immediately opened the back of the phone and removed the battery to stop the wipe at 40%.
One hour+ later I inserted the battery back into the 9800 and once again the data wipe bar appeared on the screen and I pulled the battery to halt the wipe at 20%.
I went to the Blackberry Official web site and sought out any solutions to stopping the data wipe in the Torch 9800 manuals and other service areas and there was no mention of the data wipe. I sought out other web sites for solutions and there was none... I also referenced   a number of Black Berry forums and found that there where mentions of the same issue I was experiencing BUT no solutions.
I then pulled my sim card and inserted it into another Torch 9800  I maintain as a backup and when I went to my Mac Book Pro to connect the alternate 9800  and transfer data to it from the Blackbery desktop manager I was told their was a system failure. I attempted several times to in the dialogue box to copy data and settings from another device and again a system failure appeared. I again went to BB Torch Forums and found out that there have been a number of issues with Apple Macs and back up and transfers of data to Torch 9800 .
On Saturday I contacted Telstra Mobile Technical support and was connected to a Black Berry technical solution specialist who after referring to their BB manual and speaking to colleagues informed me that they saw NO work around solution.
I am therefore appealing to Blackberry wisemen & women to inform me if there is a solution to either obtain my backup data from my Mac and or to halt the Torch 9800 from wiping out my data if I have been able to pull the battery from the device. I have been user of Blackberry devices from the pagers of 1999 and have owned and operated over 14 BBs since along with my wife who is now on her first.
I am looking forward to your reply.

    Hi canadagoose
    Welcome to BlackBerry Support Forums
Sorry to hear that you're experincing such issues !

But this situation happens when you enter wrong password for your BlackBerry ID , but not with device password that a user set in his device :
    KB24157 : BlackBerry ID lockout behaviour .
As you're an old user as you mentioned in your post , I think you will agree that BlackBerry are the most secure devices available , if we enter wrong password to many times ( By default 10 times ) then it will initiate a wipe process , which you cannot stop my any mean.
Sorry to say but there is no way or any workaround available to stop a device wipe after it is initiated .
Reading your backup issue , have you ever done a full backup or a custom backup which atleast include your address book ! If you have it then after a wipe you can restore it from those backup files.

  • Torch 9800 - ringtones and wallpapers all disappeared (default, pre-installed ones only)

Have had a BB Torch 9800 for about 15 months. Realised earlier this week (after a reboot, which may or may not be relevant) that the default wallpapers had all disappeared. Shortly after that, I realised all the default ringtones and sounds had gone too.
Tried to follow steps on another forum to reinstall sound files. One step was to "Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\(current device latest OS folder)\Java" - problem being that when I navigate as far as C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared there is no LOADER FILES folder on my PC. I haven't consciously deleted this, so what the hell is going on?!
If I don't have the COD files on my PC, is there any way to restore the default sounds and wallpapers? If so, can someone give me details please?
Very confused, very frustrated - please help! Thanks

    Hi.
    1) Verify that this is the correct device OS version that you need.
    2) Download the software from the link provided
    3) Install the device OS and make sure you delete the vendor.xml file on your PC using the directions listed below:
Let us know how it goes.

  • TORCH 9800 - Calendar and Contacts no longer syncing with Google

Hi. I got my Torch 9800 (software version 6.0) in April and up until a couple of weeks ago, no problem syncing two-ways with Google calendar and contacts. For some reason, sometime over the past two weeks they have stopped syncing. I still receive Gmail on my Torch, no problem. Strangely, if I am sent an invitation for an event on my Google calendar, it still shows up on my device AND my Torch, However it does not sync if I create it myself, in either direction (if I create on the device, it does not show on Google calendar, and vice versa). It is set to sync wirelessly. PLEASE HELP!!!! The calendar is the main reason I even have a BlackBerry!! TIA.

I have almost the same problem since I upgraded to 6.0 B2647. If the invitation is sent to me from someone else and I get it as an email, I can accept the meeting request and it is added to my BB but it is still not added to my gmail calendar. I have 8 accounts synched with my BB, 4 of them gmail accounts, 2 of them have gmail calendars.
I just got off the phone with Rogers BlackBerry support where I was told that I should backout the upgrade and the tech support guy (Peter) was unable to tell me what version I should go back to. BB DTM knows though but I'm reluctant to go back.
It was a Rogers specific upgrade! The upgrade itself went badly. I couldn't upgrade wirelessly and when I did the upgrade using DTM the software upgraded but the restore failed. I was able to restore some of my information (password keeper - thank goodness!) but I lost a number of updated address book entries and have had to reenter them manually as people contact me (or I call them if I know their number).
I worked for RIM for 10+ years and this is one of the worst upgrades I've had and I used to run early pre-release versions all the time.
    I've tried:
-- turning off wireless calendar sync and then turning it back on.
-- deleting the account from my bb and readding it
-- changing the default account to my gmail account for calendar and contacts and email
Nothing has worked so far, especially talking to the Rogers rep!

  • BlackBerry Torch 9800 V.S. iPhone 4G: which is better for playing DVD/Video

Though BlackBerry continue to be extremely popular, it's no secret that RIM needed to step up its game and really work on improving and advancing its operating system. And over the past few months, the company has given us previews of a refreshed OS. The RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800 is the first device to ship running BlackBerry OS 6 and will be available starting August 12 for US$199.99 with a two-year contract. The slider phone--a first for RIM--brings together a touchscreen and physical keyboard into a solid, compact design. The new OS brings some much-needed and welcome additions, including a better browser, an enhanced multimedia experience, and improved user interface. Sure, in the grand scheme of things, none of this is new but at least it puts RIM back on track. So we thought it might be a good idea to compare BlackBerry Torch 9800 with the iPhone 4G to find out, which one is a better smartphone. In this article, we have compared some of the key features available on the new BlackBerry smartphone with Apple's iPhone 4G.

Now you said you swtich from IPHONE back to the Blackberry 9800. Do you have a Blackberry DATA plan now on tmobile? No just the regular data plan. As regular data plan does not work with Blackberry.

  • Upgrade software for torch 9800

I have BB Torch 9800. I m living india and carrier is Airtel. Can anybody help me to how to upgrade software.

    Hello,
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    5) Launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC. If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
    Don't forget to backup.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • How do I re-install the operating system on my BlackBerry Torch 9800 - I am sure it is hacked.

    Greetings,
Can someone point me to instructions on how to re-install the operating system on a BlackBerry Torch 9800 and then upgrade it to the latest release?
I have done this several times in the past, due to recurring hacking, but have lost the instructions.
Thank you very much for your help.
    Regards,
    Jean-Pierre
P.S. I would preffer a releas of the OS without any pre-install applicaitons such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn,
and above all, Whastapp. Thank you.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Torch 9800 Push Service

    Hi,
I recently bought a Torch 9800., but my provider is not supporting e-mail push service.
Currently I am downloading my emails with another device manually. Is that also possible with BB? Do I need additional Software?
At present I am not able to set up an e-mail account. My provider told me that this is not possible (no push support) and in a forum I read that this is related to some settings on my SIM.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
BBs do not have a full on-device email client. Rather, they depend on the BIS infrastructure, which is hosted at the carriers and BB. What it sounds like is that you had BIS with your prior carrier, but do not yet have it with the new one. If the new one is capable of delivering BIS service to you, you must first get the old carrier to shut it off...one BB can have only one BIS account anywhere in the world. Until your former carrier releases your BB PIN from their BIS, your new carrier will not be able to deliver BIS to you (assuming they even have it...based on your discussions, it may well be that they don't).
    Good luck!

  • How to remove the IT policy from my Torch 9800, or how to reset the device to original setting

I have a Torch 9800 formerly- used for business emails. According to our company policy there was an IT policy installed to the device hence would force the user to set password protecting the device.
Now this device has been retired and I like to use it only for regular phone calls thus do not like to have a password protection. My question is:

    Hello,
A question to the users Blacberry and in particular the torch 9800.
Could make this test to help me to understand.
When I connect in WIFI and in WIFI only (connection GSM 2G and 3G cut), it is impossible to me to visit the page of orange.fr as well as that of Blacberry.
On the other hand without changing anything I post(show) all other wanted pages with no problem at all with a display different from my PC for example to sfr.fr, to yahoo.fr infotrafic etc...
Is it also for you, which explanation??
Thanks to the advance for the answers to this small test.

    Bonjour,
    Cordialement
    Gilprem

As best as I can tell, there's an incompatibility issue with the 'N' wifi connectivity, either in the Torch 9800 or a whole lot of N wireless routers.
I disabled the 'N' functionality in my DIR-615 router, set it to mixed B and G, and now I have no problems at all with the wifi connection dropping.  Might be a little slower (assuming the Torch does take full advantage of N's extra speed when it works), but it's working well for me now....

    Thank you
Edit: Personal information removed (IMEI). At no time should you provide any personal information to any other community member. Check out the User Guidelines for details.

After the ten attempts have been used, you must get RIM to unlock the device.
There are two routes, and only two, to achieve this.
    * IF your device is in warranty, contact your service provider technical support. Tell them you have this issue which needs to be escalated to RIM level customer support. I'll warn you that most carrier technical support people will first assume and think you are referring to a device security unlock, and you will need to convince them otherwise and explain clearly what you need. THEY will not be able to help you because the carriers themselves cannot unlock a device which has had the MEP code attempts depleted, and should (and you will need to ask) to have the case escalated to RIM level tech support.
    * If your device is out of warranty, contact RIM direct. See the Contact Us information from the website: http://ca.blackberry.com/contact/ The options you want to select to speak to BlackBerry Customer Care are 3 (for inquiries, orders, billing, e-RMA etc) then 5 (e-RMA and Out of Warranty).
