Torch 9860 frozen on software updates

Hi
im hoping someone can help. My Blackberry 9860 asked me to update the software so i selected "update now" and now it has been frozen for 2 days with the screen white and social feeds showing at 0% progress and overall backup progress at 5%. iv taken the battery out several times and iv tried connecting it to my desktop software but it cant seem to find the device.
The 9860 is a touch screen model so i cant try pressing alt caps and delete like iv noticed a few people mention.
Id really appreciate any advice as i use my phone for work and currently cant access the phone at all.
thanks x

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

There are two methods of recovery for you to try:
One:
Open Blackberry Desktop Software & Connect your device with PC using USB cable, without inserting battery.
You will get three option Retry, Update Or Cancel, then click on update.
Once it is to the stage of the update "initializing handheld", then insert battery.
If this does not work, and you remain stuck on the backing up the Social Feeds database, go to the second method below.
Secondly:
Start your BlackBerry in Safe mode.  Article ID: KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Modehttp://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB17877
Connect to the BlackBerry Desktop Software and allow your handheld to connect. If you are prompted to upgrade, cancel the upgrade for later.
IF you cannot connect or your Desktop Software does not recognize your device while in Safe Mode, please follow the directions here to force the detect:  Article ID: KB10144 How to force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
Go to Device > delete > SELECT DATA > select to delete both the Social Feeds and Smart Card databases, and follow the remaining prompts to complete it.
Now, you can return and click to upgrade the device through the Desktop Manager, or reboot the BlackBerry in normal mode and continue the over the air upgrade.
Good luck!

If BlackBerry Desktop Software is not recognizing your phone, you're really out of luck; it's imperative that BDS connects to your phone.
RIM has this to say about getting your phone to connect to BDS:

    I hope that helps you.

  • Torch 9860 Stuck trying to update software

    Hello
My Blackberry Torch 9860 is stuck on a software update. It gets to 10% of overall backup process and then just stops.
I cannot get into anything or use the phone. I have pulled the battery out and it goes back to the same thing.
    Please help!

Unplug your phone and start over again.  Shut down BlackBerry Desktop Software, unplug your phone, plug it back in to your PC, open BDS again and wait.  You'll probably be told that you have to reload your OS so go ahead and accept it.
    I hope that helps you.

  • Screen frozen on software update

just recieved iPad Air - settings section indicated new software update to iOS 8.1.2 but when I said that I wanted to download it, the screen has frozen at the Terms and Conditions page and I can't get rid of it.

Assuming you've unpowered it and when restarted it does the same you probably need to retire it via iTunes:

  • No audio/sound on Blackberry Torch 9810 since performing software update to 7.1.0 bundle 1149

    Hello,
Please can someone help me.  I recently performed a software update on my Blackberry Torch 9810 to version 7.1.0. (Bundle 1149).  The update was successful, however since performing the update all audio on my phone has stopped working, in that ringtones, alarms, message notifiers have ceased to work.  I can make calls and can hear people on the other end of the phone, my handset also still vibrates, it has just lost all audio output.
My phone's profile is set to 'normal' and I do not have the 'silent' or 'all alerts off' functions selected.  I also have not dropped or damaged my phone and it has not received any water damage.
I've tried restarting my handset on several occasions and have performed battery pulls/removing and replacing the battery and still no joy!
I have tried to downgrade my software to the previous version, however my handset does not allow a downgrade function.
Please, please can someone help, as I am at a total loss as to what to do?!?!?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Emma

Take a look at the following.....
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?noCount=true&externalId=KB19915&sliceId=2&cm...
After show other versions, you can downgrade if you see the earlier version.  Or, you may want to just reinstall the latest version.
It sounds like you did the update OTA on the BlackBerry handset.  That is generally a bad idea right now.  Certainly it will improve in the future, but nowadays many people have troubles.

iMac is stuck with "running package scripts" message, after downloading software updates it notified me of.   Now not making progress.  how do I shut it down?

I would try a factory restore. Something is not working and this sounds like its in need of a restore.
There are a few ways to get this going
1 Hopefully when you unplug your phone the option will come up and you can just pick factory restore.
Let me know if that works

  • I updated my Torch to the latest software update and it now locks up, resets and is totally unstable...help

I updated my torch a few days ago and ever since I did it has become so unstable.
I tried redoing the update numerous times and it is not getting better?
Phone was working fine prior to update and it now resets and locks up constantly.
    Help .
    I can't use it

    Hello!
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try this procedure to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • MacBook Pro frozen during software update

I moved from Snow Leopard to Lion on my MacBook Pro (2010, I think) a couple of weeks ago.  Today, I was prompted to update the software, including an OSX update -- my first update of Lion.  I'm guessing it's 10.7.1 or 10.7.2.  Alas, I didn't write down the 5 updates specified.  The update proceeded normally through "moving items into place," and has remained there ever since (3 hours so far).  I'll let it go overnight just in case...  but if it's still twiddling its thumbs, is a hard reboot a safe option?  Or do I leave it running and drive the 70 miles to the Apple Store?  Or pray to the Mac Gods?

Well...I went through the "Express Lane" to set up a case #, then chatted with a Support Guy in Tucson.  I'm now back in business, though it took about 2 hours on the phone and an overnight re-install.
    1. Hard reboot.  Mac wouldn't restart normally; reached apple logo + spinning gear.
    2. Restart + command +R to get to Utilities; chose disk utility
    3. Disk utility, Verify disk --> corrupted
    4. Disk utility, Repair disk --> repaired (but still no successful restart)
    5. Disk utility, Repair permissions --> repaired (but still no successful restart)
    6. Utilities, Reinstall OSX --> I went to sleep while it did this.  It was back in working order by morning, no lost files.
    Thank you Apple Support, Tucson!

  • Torch 9860 sometimes goes silent

    Hi,
My wife has a BB torch 9860, and I have updated the os to 7.1.0.523( 7.1 release 1646) from the earlier 7.0 version. Since this update , some times it gets silent, means when we receive a call , the phone does not ring. All the volume and sound alerts setting are ok, but the phone wont ring.
How can I solve this ?.
    Thanks in Advance

  • Torch frozen on restore after software update

I updated my software wirelessly last night through software updates on the device. It went through the download process fine, but as soon as it went to "restoring your data" it froze at 37% overall progress(if im remembering correctly) it said at the time Brio Calorie Tracker 0%. So after several hours of it not changing from that % i did a hard reset as recomended in these forums. when going through the restore process again it froze at 2% overall progress and again 0% progress on Brio Calorie Tracker. Repeated hard resets have given me the same result. Last night I let it sit overnight for 8 hours and it did not budge or change in any capacity, still 0% Brio calorie tracker and 2% overall restore progress. I'm at the end of my rope here and have no idea what to do now. I've also tried connecting to blackberry desktop software, including while doing hard resets and it won't let me. It will just say on the device screen that I cant access anything on the device while a restore is in progress.
    HELP please!

Well, that's a little more than I wanted you to do, but it's still a good thing.    I was going to have you simply remove the application file for that calorie counter app, but now we'll have to do an OS reload.
Just go through with the following instructions to reload the device software:
    Disconnect your device.
Download the most current OS for your device, which you'll find in the link below.  It's a German website, but the download link is readily apparent.
    http://www.vodafone.de/business/blackberry-support/blackberry-torch-9800_158961.html
On your PC, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader. Delete the file at the bottom called vendor.xml.
    Connect your device.
In that same folder as above, there's an executable file called Loader (has a little phone next to it). Double click on that and it will start loading your OS.
Oh, I'd recommend you NOT reload that application again.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Given your short description, I cannot tell exactly the method you are attempting to use...there are several. OTA on the device? Direct with Desktop Software? USB connected using the RIM update website? Loader.exe? BBSAK? Some other method?
Nevertheless, I recommend this method. At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for each model. Please use those as reference as you proceed.

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
