[Torch 9860] - Network indicates roaming "Rogers Wireless - Fido" with Fido SIM

Hello,
I recently purchased a BlackBerry Torch 9860.
I have a Fido SIM card
When I insert my SIM, and I turn on cellular, the network says "Rogers Wireless - Fido" with the roaming triangle next to it.
Why is this the case and will I be charged roaming whenever I make a call or send an SMS?
Thanks,
Tobias

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
You need to check if your BB is unlocked or not...see this:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/General-BlackBerry-Functions-and/Unlocking-your-BlackBerry-Gu...
If, for instance, your BB is locked to Rogers, then when you try to use a Fido SIM, it may be having to run via the Rogers network to get to Fido. Or, if Fido has no coverage where you are, it may have to roam on Rogers to get to Fido.
As for billing, you have to talk to Fido and/or Rogers about that.
Good luck!

  • I am trying to connect a Windows 7 / 64 bit to an Epson printer on my Mac.  The printer is hooked into the Mac via USB; the Mac is networked to a Linksys wireless router with an ethernet cable, as is the Windows box. Any tips on how to do this?

I am trying to connect a Windows 7 / 64 bit to an Epson printer on my Mac.  The printer is hooked into the Mac via USB; the Mac is networked to a Linksys wireless router with an ethernet cable, as is the Windows box. I installed the current Bonjour printer services software on the Windows machine, and separately installed the driver software for the Epson printer on the WIndows machine.  Running the bonjour wizard, I get an alert saying 'I don't have sufficient access to my computer to connect to the selected printer'.
The printer has 'sharing' turned on from the Mac end; this works with a Powerbook via the wireless connection.  Sharing is also turned on in the Windows printer control panel for this printer (under properties).  The Mac is a G5 running 10.5.8.  When I try to print a page from the Windows machine it gets hung in the print queue.
Any advice how to proceed would be appreciated!

  • Network topology for extending wireless range with WAP321

    Hi all,
I have an WAP321 accespoint connected to my router/firewall. There are 2 SSID active each assigned to a different VLAN. Now I want to extend the range of my wireless network and looking into options.
Adding another WAP321 is the first thing on my mind. When I read the documentation the cluster option looks perfect for me.
The only thing I don't find in the documentation is if the second WAP321 should be hard wired with the LAN for the data connection. I don't have the possibility to get a network cable to the second WAP321 location. So I am looking for a repeater with respect to multiple SSID's.
    Does clustering solve my problem?
    Regards,
    Martin.

Hi, My name is Eric Moyers. I am a Network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center. Thank you for using the Cisco Community Post Forums.
The option that you need to use is WDS Bridge. To use this you need to have two WAP321's as bridging to like WAPs is only supported. (121 to 121, 321 to 321)
Is only for ease of management and not for extending.
This is easy to setup and there is good detail in the admin guide and in help in the GUI.
    Here is an abbreviated version:
    To configure a WDS bridge:
Click Wireless > WDS Bridge in the navigation window.
Select Enable for Spanning Tree Mode
When enabled, STP helps prevent  switching loops. STP is recommended if you configure WDS links.
    Select Enable for WDS Interface
    Configure the remaining parameters:
Repeat these steps for up to three additional WDS interfaces.
Click Save. The changes are saved to the Running Configuration and to the Startup  Configuration.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Please refer to this:

As you will read, your model does not include the necessary hardware (an FM radio tuner) for this feature.

  • Torch 9860 - Problem with wifi network

    Hi,
I have a BB Torch 9860 and the internet access doesn´t work properly when connected to a wifi connection.
With my carrier data plan, everything works. Every time i connecto to a wifi connection, the internet access stops working. I tried to clean all registered networks, added new networks, everything i can remember of, but nothing works. The only way to get internet access on my phone, is with the carrier´s data plan.
Is this some kind of bug or software block?
I serched through the forum, and tried some of the solutions and sugestions, but nothing works.
The only satisfied part with this purchase so far is my carrier who seems to be very happy with the access through their data plan!
Can anyone give me a hand on this subject?
    Thanks,
    Rui

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Not knowing what you already found and attempted, we risk redundancy...nevertheless, with that risk...
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support. In very rare cases, I have heard of carriers blocking the use of BIS via WiFi...but only they (your carrier) can answer as to if that is what they are doing.
    Oh...wait...another though...a bit of a wild one...please check this:
Article ID: KB30076 How to check for an IT Policy on a BlackBerry smartphone
If you have an IT Policy and are on BES, then talk to your BES admins about if they may perhaps be blocking this. If you have an IT Policy but are not on BES, then you have much bigger problems to deal with...you will need to backup your device, conduct a ResetToFactory, and then restore your device (but ONLY partial...do not do a full restore or it will put the IT Policy back on and you'll be right back where you started).

  • My BB Torch 9860 freezes while it reboots and refuses to turn on

My BB torch 9860 froze 4 days back while a normal hard reboot. it refuses to turn on freezes and a particular spot on the bar while rebooting. i cant update the software or do nothing as it requires the fone to turn and it refuses to do so. Please help.

Is there anything else I can try.
    Hi there,
Sounds like a hardware issue ! Still if you want to try then use BBSAK or JL_Cmder to wipe your device then load a fresh OS pack .Or first be sure that your battery is good enough then try those steps again :
    ( Credit JSanders )
    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed. BlackBerry desktop software
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.  BlackBerry Software Download Site
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • Any Rogers Wireless customers in the house? Teathering and Bridge Browser

are you with Rogers and able to get your Bridge Browser working?
when I try to connect to isp.apn I get a message that I can not connect.  Is this something I need to call Rogers about?  I just assumed that teathering over bridge would be transparent to the carrier.  I guess not.
    8100, 8900, 9800, and Playbook owner

I use rogers wireless and believe what you are trying to do is setup internet tethering which is different then using the bridge browser.  from how I understand it the bridge browser will use the internet via your BES server which creates a secure connection and allows access to corporate web sites if allowed by your BES admin.
Internet tethering allows the apps on the playbook to access the internet using your blackberry data plan.  I have a BES data plan with rogers and this is how I use my playbook with my Torch.
However to get internet tethering to work you need to config a custom profile under
    options - internet tethering
you need to set the APN to internet.com
    username: wapuser
    password: wapuser1
You will now be able to tether your playbook and access the internet on the rogers wireless network.  make sure you have a decent data plan so you dont end up with a large data charge.

  • BB Torch 9860 Hangs during booting

I bought a BB Torch 9860 a week back.  Yesterday night the handset got switched off  as the battery had exhausted. In the morning when I was trying to switch it on it was not coming on. I put on charging, there was no indication of charging for some time then it started booting. The booting indicator (the line which indicates that the handset is being booted) went half way and stopped. The system did not respond to switch off button. The battery was removed and put back to restart. Every time it boots to half line and hangs. Would request someone to extend help please.

    Hey thomas_k_s,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
I would suggest to do a clean reload of the BlackBerry® device software as shown here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320, please test before restoring any data to the device.
If this resolves the issue do a selective restore of essential data (Address Book, Calendar, Task, Memos, BBM contacts etc.)

  • Memory leak issue on Blackberry Torch 9860

I own a Blackberry Torch 9860 Os 7.0 Bundle 1465 for the last 5 months
Previously I had Blackberry Curve 9300 which I had upgraded to OS 6.0. It had memory leak issues wherein my application memory would gradually dropdown to merely KBs within a few days and I had to reboot it to restore the same.
When I purchased Torch 9860, I migrated my device settings from Curve to Torch using the Desktop Manager. I face the same memory leak issues in this new device as well. I have 3 email accounts configured on my device and some social networking applications which include facebook, twitter, and some messengers. I usually delete my emails and keep only a few useful mails for reference. Still I am facing this issue wherein I have to reboot my device to restore the application memory. It starts from 152 Mb and usually dropsdown to merely Kilobytes of memory. The phone freezes for around 1-2 minutes sometimes when I am on call, or accessing my contacts.
Also to let you know that I have a 8GB memory card on my phone which has around 1.6 GB free space. I have disabled Compression on my memory card as well.
Please advise as I am having a hard time using this time this way.

  • BlackBerry Presenter + Torch 9860 = World of Pain

    BlackBerry Presenter. Nice idea, eh?
Who wouldn't want to save the weight of lugging a PC around when a handheld would do the job? [Except that it doesn't.] Amazon details say Torch 9860 is supported. OS version needs to be above 4.6. Mine is v7.0; I duly shell out money. Box arrives a few days later.
    Honeymoon Period
Power up the Presenter, look at all the pretty lights. Download & install the desktop software. Connect the Presenter, update the firmware. What next? Oh yes, follow the email link to install the handheld software and we'll be away. But wait! What is this? An error message:
"Your device is not supported. Go away." *
    Honeymoon Over
Oh, OK, I'll find a spare weekend morning to do the v7.1 OS upgrade. Sparkly new features. (Well, 1 of them is useful and if there are some patches to the unresponsive screen issues then maybe this investement in free time will be worth it). Now I have v7.1 installed, let's follow the link....
"Your device is not supported. Why are you persisting with this?" *
Lot's of web searching. Idle hours spent on the utterly useless and inappropriately named "Knowledge Base". Presenter doesn't support the Torch. Presenter does support all devices above 4.6. Presenter should not be used in the bath. Skiing whilst using the Presenter is not advised. Problems with your love life caused by prolonged use of the web site are not the responsibility of RIM or its employees. *
Aha! A deep link into BlackBerry.com to the actual software for the 9860 (supported).
“Error 404a – This page no longer exists and now you’re trying to be clever. You again? Your DEVICE IS NOT SUPPORTED whatever it is! Give up! Go away!” *
OK. Back the retailer. The trusty Sale of Goods act will swing my retailer into action on my behalf. Amazon respond at the speed of light or thereabouts: here are contact numbers for RIM in the UK, links to specific support and an email address. It's a tech problem, they'll help. Sorry you’re having problems. All the best, etc *
Follow the links. Find myself back at the Knowledge Base, again in search of enlightenment. Hmmm. Try the (non-freephone) telephone number. "Press 1 if you are a distributor, press 2 if you have a support account, 3 if you have no life or 4 to be sent around interminable links of our automated system until you lose the will to live" * I select 4 and due to a fault in the system find myself speaking to a sleepy but well-meaning chap in America. He is determined to help me. After some time trying to establish what strange BlackBerry device this is I have bought ("Yes, Presenter. P-R-E-S-E-N-T-E-R. P for Papa, R Romeo, E Echo" - you get the drift) he (politely) explains in the way that only a twenty something graduate can that this device isn't actually made by RIM, it's from a 3rd Party ("That's kinda like another company that we use to like do stuff for us..." *) and therefore there is not much information in his KnowledgeBase about it. "Can you try this link, sir?". Oh whoopee. We're back in the user manual. Yes, I can try following a link to App World. No, I can't find the app there any more either. My helpful assistant eventually gives up when I decline paid support, and gives me an email address to which to send my problem and advises me to see my network provider. This email turns out to be for their “Idea Processing” department. The automated response asks me to sign a confidentiality agreement before sharing my ideas on how the product may be improved. I decline, life being too short to pursue this line of attack.
Network Provider (Vodafone) is ridiculously helpful in the circumstances. They can't get it to work on a 9860 or a Bold 9900 either. They photograph the same error I have on the chance it will help BlackBerry chase down the problem.
Back to Amazon. “Thanks for copying your email to BlackBerry, We’re really, really sorry this is not turning out to be fun. Here’s the contact details of the 3rd party who actually supplied this item to you. Lot’s of love, Amazon. *”
Aha! This will be a fully accredited RIM partner with exclusive access to their limitless training resources. I am only seconds away from “Oh – you need this new version of the handheld software!”
    But…no.
“Dear Sir, I'm sorry for this issue. I never used this presenter myselft [sic] so I can't really help you. I'm fine to refund this order for you.”
Me: “Can you contact BlackBerry and establish the root cause of the problem before I give up?”
Them: “I’m sorry I didn’t as it’s nightmare to get in touch with any manufacture.”[sic] It’s good to see that basic communication skills are still being tort at skool.
    Penultimate Episode:
Let’s try the 1 person in BlackBerry with whom I have previously corresponded (regarding integration of BES with Office 365 but you never know). “Thank you for contacting BlackBerry. We will respond shortly.” + 1 week: Me: “Any progress on this?” “Thank you for contacting BlackBerry. Your email has not been delivered. Please consult the Knowledge Base”.
    Final Episode:
Rant on the forum. Before I take the Presented and smash it with a club hammer, maybe someone who designed the Presenter will read this. Or even Sting’s lawyers:
I’ll send my SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my (x3)
    Message in a bottle
    Message in a bottle
I’m sending out an SOS, sending out an SOS. (repeat until fade)

  • Need help on how to re-install/wipe OS on my BB Torch 9860

Can anyone in the house please give me a breakdown on how I can wipe completely my blackberry torch 9860 device and re-install a new OS without any fuss, thank you.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
To WIPE, it all depends on exactly what level of cleansing you wish to do...refer:
Article ID: KB16307 Actions performed by the BlackBerry smartphone during the removal of stored user and application data
As for OS reloading, the simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

when I connect it via USB the red LED blinks 1 time 3 times fast and slow
when I try to start it nothing happens

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Lots of trouble with BB Torch 9860.

Hello. Right, I have the Torch 9860, had for several months & getting a lot of grief. Here goes...
1 - Battery life is inconsistent - Can last all day most days, but other days can go down 90% within 10 minutes of use.
2 - Software - When I first got the phone, within a week of using, the phone wouldn't load on the BlackBerry loading screen, it got to 3/4's of the way and then stopped. Solution I found was to hold the back key down to load in a 'safe mode.'
3 - Seperate issue, I was on Youtube one night and I pressed to open a video & my phone turned off. When loading again, issue 2 happened, but rather than staying on this, it went to 'Error 102, Reload software.' which I did via BB Desktop Software.
4 - Constant black timer loading, can be doing anything on any screen with nothing open & it will just load for about 20 seconds.
5 - Similar to number 4, pressing the standby button, black screen. I know the phone is on, because it flashes. I will hold the standby button again, nothing. I press the power off (End call) button, nothing, it then comes on with 'Handheld turning off, press any key to cancel.'
6 - The speed of opening anything. Isn't this device meant to have a super fast processor? Doesn't for me. Everything I open takes time. Texts, BBM, Camera.
7 - My calls don't work. I'll ring anyone and it says 'Connected' with the time displayed. no sound. I put it on loudspeaker, nothing. Headphones in, again nothing. I end up doing a battery pull and it works for a while then cuts off during a call.
With all this, I have done a software update, I've done a back up. I've done a lot of different things. I just felt I needed to come on here to fix this.
    BB Torch 9860 - 7.1 Bundle 1149 (V7.1.0.342, Platform 5.1.0.276)
    Carrier - O2 UK.
    Thanks.

Hello...and apologies for the delayed reply!
Hopefully you already have this resolved, but just in case...I suggest you do a clean and controlled OS reload, using the process outlined later down in this post...
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try this procedure to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
