  • Time Capsule Keeps Dropping Connection

Hi, I've had trouble keeping connectivity with the Time Capsule.  This is relatively recent.  Everything was fine for over a year.  Now it will drop connection in the middle of an internet search and look for available connections.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Have you reset the TC to factory and redone the setup? This is a major fix for a lot of issues. Simple fact is the TC needs a boot in the pants every now and then.
I have unplug the power cord & plug it back in.
That is not a factory reset..
    This is a factory reset.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
How is the TC setup in the network?
not sure what you mean by this, followed the prompts when i set it up.
Open the airport utility when the TC is working.. click on the TC and take a screenshot of the summary info.
Then click edit and go to the network tab.. take a screenshot of that to and post it.
What is the link speed between the computer and the TC??
Please run the wireless diagnostics and then the utility which is part of the diagnostics and tell us or post that as well.

  • Os x lion keeps dropping connection to domain controller

What is the story with OS X Lion. It keeps losing connection to a Windows domain controller after a restart. Ive come back to my lab after the weekend and nealry 30 out of the 50 imacs that were on the domain are saying domain controller not responding resulting in network accounts unavailble. Meaning NO-ONE CAN LOG ON.......!!!!!!!!
    ITS A JOKE.....
I hold out no hope for an official reponse from someone from apple to address this issue. In the meantime Ill just keep unbinding them, deleting the computer object from AD, force replication on all DCs', repair permission on the HD of the iMAC, rename it and rebind it to the domain. Then I will do that for all the other 29 iMACs that have lost connection to the domain....BECAUSE I HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO WITH MY DAY.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hello fellow Mac users,
The root cause of this issue will be different for everyone as it’s usually some rogue app or process that isn’t working properly. In my case it was a Symantec utility called ‘SymUIAgent.app’.
Follow these steps to identify what specifically is causing the issue on your computer
Save the code on this file to your desktop using the filename id_issue.py: https://gist.github.com/iMerica/8928556/raw/73832a509de4dc5394cf1747b997ea1bd1b0 ff4e/identify_focus_issue.py
    Open Terminal.app (Located in /Applications/Utilities)
In Terminal, cd to your Desktop using cd ~/Desktop
Run python id_issue.py and just let your computer sit for a few minutes (assuming the issue is happening within a few minutes/seconds).
Basically this code gets the current active window every three seconds and prints it as standard output which you can view in Terminal. Once you find the offending app, search on Google for specific steps on removing it.
    I hope that helps!

  • Wi-fi keeps dropping connection

    Hi
I have an iMac, bought 2 weeks ago, and my wi-fi keeps dropping it's connection to the router - I have heard and read about a Lion issue with poor wi-fi quality, but all my software is up to date patch-wise.
I have changed my channels (I have tried 1,6 and 11) on my router in case of interference - and it makes a difference to the speed of the connection, but it is still happening.
Makes no difference as to whether I am online watching streaming video, or if the iMac is not touched for a while, it still happens, and appears to be completely random - for instance, yesterday, I watched a football game, and in the first half it didn't happen at all, and it happened 5 times in the 2nd half. The router is fine, it's just simply the iMac dropping it's connection to the wireless router itself.
It also makes no difference what app I am using - but when I try to reconnect, it either doesn't display my router name in there at all, or when it tries to connect, it states "a timeout has occured" - however, if i switch off the iMac at the back (quick standby), then switch if back on again, it sees it, connects and no problem - then stays connected for a random period of time until it disconnects again
I have another (spare) router upstairs, and my iMac is exactly the same with that!
And also my MacBook Pro, Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, PS3, wife's PC, daughters laptop all have no problem connecting to my main router and staying connected.
So now, I'm beginning to think it's hardware...
    Anyone offer any other suggestions?

It's  possible your router may need a firmware upgrade or if it's an older router upgrading to 802.11N would help. I know your other devices work OK but first check the router, check for firmware updates and update if needed. If you still have a problem borrow a newer router from a friend and test it, if everything works OK that points the finger at your old router.
Finally you do have 90 days of Free AppleCare, you should call Apple and ask for help. The number is in your manual. BTW AppleCare is open M-Saturday during business hours.

  • Airport extreme keeps dropping connection and its driving me crazy

Alright so I have an airport extreme, and I have been having these "dropping out" problems for a long time now. For about 20 seconds, the internet signal is at maximum strength, then for some reason just completely drops for a few seconds then comes back. So basically if I am doing anything like playing a game online or talking on aim it just drops out for a few seconds then comes back. It's driving me mental.
The airport is not far at all from my computer, and we do have 2.4ghz phones, but over at my other house, we have a linksis wireless setup, and my computer is much farther away and there are also 2.4ghz phones there, and it doesn't drop out at all.
I have tried hard resets, changing the airport channel it's on, downgrading to previous airport versions... I know it's not my computer because it does it with both our macs in the house.
If someone can help me fix this it would be very greatly appreciated.

SOMEONE FROM APPLE PLEASE HELP US!
Well I've got the same issues with an n (WDS Main), two extremes (1 WDS Relay and 1 WDS Remote) and 1 express (WDS Remote). The n keeps logging this (the MAC is of the WDS Relay extreme):
    Nov 02 20:27:14 Severity:5 Deauthenticating with station 00:11:24:9d:74:91 (reserved 2).
and the WDS Relay keeps logging this (the MAC is of the WDS Main n):
Nov 02 21:01:06 Severity:5 Deauthenticated with station 00:11:24:23:15:d4 (authentication invalidated).
This seems to have begun with a firmware update of the n (7.2.1) and now the n constantly goes from a green status icon in AirPort Utility to an orange one and reports a WDS Error about not finding any other WDS units. Then it switches back to green. At the same time all the base stations disappear from the AirPort Utility and then come back after turning the AirPort on and off on my powerbook menu bar. Cycling the AirPort from the munu bar also restores lost internet connectivity. The actual network connectivity via the WDS network seems to stay up because I have a VOIP box attached to the WDS Remote extreme and don't loose phone service. While I'd like to get the issues reported by the n and the extremes solved at this point I'd settle for finding a way to not loose network connectivity (not the actual AirPort connection) from my PowerBook every 4 or 5 minutes. The syslog on the PowerBook shows:

  • Why does my TC keep dropping connection?

    I got a TC today.
    I have the following setup:
Billion 7404VGP wireless modem/router - new TC + a couple of Macbooks, Iphones, and an ipad.
Anyway, I want to keep the Billion as the main signal thrower in the house. It is reliable.
I opted to add the TC to the network, it failed a few times, but eventually worked. I managed to copy about 1Gig of data across intermittently (as the TC kept dropping in and out of connection). In the meantime, my wireless internet connection is perfect.
Its kind of like the TC falls asleep and jumps off the network constantly.
Have reset TC, and now it seems even worse... Cant figure out how to format it or alter any settings as its just not being seen by my MB.
    Weird
    Help?

Add TC by wireless?? ie you used join wireless network?
Or you plugged in the TC by ethernet and set it to bridge mode.
Let me encourage you to do the later.. wireless joining especially to non-apple G network device will be slow.. and unlikely to give stability.
There are lots of options but I would consider using wireless from the TC.. since it is dual band simultaneous N wireless.. it might work a lot better than the billion does.. you can easily just turn off wireless in the billion to test it.
Tell us some more and we can help.. I am in Australia and used the billion 7404 with TC.

  • WRT54G2 keeps dropping connection, wired and wireless

I have a Scientific Atlanta modem with WRT54G2 wireless router. Both are around 2 years old. In the past few months, I keep getting periodic connection drop, couple times a day, day on day off. I have 2 wired connections and 3 wireless connections to the router. I check with my internet provider, Cox, they say my connection is fine. So I guess it's the router or modem problem.
The funny thing is when connection drop, I cannot access any web sites via wired and wireless. However, my downloads in iTune are still running fine at full speed. I have to unplug and replug both router and modem for it to work again.
Is there a way to fix this? or do i need to buy a new router or modem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's possible that Cox only recognizes the router's MAC address, probably the reason why you can't connect directly.
Anyway, try to lower the MTU settings on the router.

  • Help! - VOIP router keeps dropping connection

First let me say that I really have tried all the obvious - cables, power cords, outlets, etc.  I've replaced the VOIP router and the cable modem also.  But I lose the connection several times per day and have to power cycle to get it back.  Started happening within weeks of first switching to VOIP service and installing the (first) VOIP router.  To rule out our alarm system, interference, cables, etc. I've even disconnected EVERYTHING downstream so that it's just cable modem --> VOIP router --> nothing.  The third light on the router STILL goes out several times a day.  It just can't seem to maintain its connection.   If I do have either phone or internet connected to the box I lose both of them when that third light goes out.  But if I bypass the VOIP router I never lose connection.  My internet speeds are 4-5Mbps download, ~1Mbps upload, signal strengths and SNR are very good.  I even tried a signal amplifier just to check, and lost the connection within 2 hours of installing that.   All the tests on www.myvoipspeed.com turn out fine except for speed CONSISTENCY, but while that might affect voice quality, I can't see how that would affect the maintenance of a connection.
The cable modem is in a garage area.  Never below 40F.  Have had the VOIP router nearby (3ft cat5 cable from the modem) and also indoors (after a 75ft cat5 cable run), with no difference.
I've tried looking at all the configuration parameters for both modem and router but see nothing obvious that might help or any setting for "timeout" or "keep alive".  Have thought about MAC cloning but the problem exists even with no computer downstream.
As you might expect, my cable company says their signal parameters check out fine, my phone company (who sold me the Cisco SPA 2012 router) says either that it's the cable company or "my wiring" (after having told them about a half dozen times that I lose the connection with nothing downstream).  Neither seems to have much expertise in the way of diagnostics or troubleshooting.  At this point I tend to think I just had bad luck and got a two 'bad' routers in a row, but I'm not about to throw more money after this just to find that wasn't the case.
What else can I try to figure this out and/or fix it???  Someone here must be smarter than the people from the cable and phone companies I've been talking to!

    Hi hczerski,
    Welcome and thanks for posting!
Sorry for the problems you're having with your broadband.  Do you notice the light on the Hub change colour when you're having this problem?
From what you have posted it does look like a wireless issue more than anything else.  Have you tried changing the wireless channel on the Hub?  Here is the link to show you how - How do I change the wireless channel on my BT Home Hub?
Post back when you've had a chance to try this to let me know how you got on.
    All the best,
    Robbie

  • IPhone 5 keeps dropping connection to iTunes/Mac

I have had my iPhone 5 for almost a week and I have had recurring problems with my connection to my Retina Macbook Pro.
I plug my iPhone into my RMBP, via lightning/USB cable, and more often then not my computer does not recognize that any device has been plugged in.
In the off chance that it makes a solid connection then everything works fine (syncing is a bit slower than my iPhone 4) until something happens and my computer loses connection with the iPhone.
I'm not moving anything once a sync begins, however it still drops the iPhone.
    Everything is brand new.
Is this the cable, software, or the iPhone itself?

Okay, so I went to the genius bar today and spoke to two Apple geniuses, each of whom had a possible solution. Neither one worked for me, but both are good ideas and they may work for someone reading this thread so I'll include them here.   I also tried one other thing which worked for me.  I'll list that below.
Genius 1's Idea - Do a complete uninstall of iTunes before reinstalling. SInce there is no uninstaller for iTunes, she suggested a program called AppZapper, which would remove iTunes and all associated files.  I tried this and AppZapper works fast as advertised.  Unfortunately, it fixed nothing.
Genius 2's Idea - He was convinced it was a system problem so he suggested a clean install of the operating system, which would require a backup of all files and downloaded apps.  SInce I wasn't prepared to go to such extreme measures just yet, I tried one more thing which I should have tried much earlier...
My Idea - I launched Disk Utility and ran Verify Disk, followed by Repair Permissions.  It found and repaired many damaged resource files, most of them belonging to iTunes, Image Capture, and iPhoto, the exact programs that were unable to see my iPhone.  Anyway, this worked.  iTunes kicks in instantly upon plugging in the iPhone, and appears in the Devices list just as it should.  And it may be my imagination, but everything seems to run a little zippier now.
So Genius 2 was half right.  It was the system that was broken.  But doing a clean install turned out to be unnecessary.
    Hope this helps.

  • Airport Extreme keeps dropping connection

    Hello
I have an Airport Extreme (4 years old) - never had any issues with connection or signal.  I am on Comcast, and have ATV, 2 iphones, iMac all wireless.  Many times I can see the wireless system, but it won't give me webpages.  Also, on my iMAC, it trys to get to Yahoo or Apple site and just spins (does not say connection lost).  Airport extreme is always solid green
If I disonnect the Airport extreme, and plug back in, goes, yellow, flashes and then solid green.  From here, internet works.  Any idea why this happens?  Been happening on and off for the past 2 months, maybe 1/week.
    Thanks

  • Netgear router keeps dropping connection - Safari, iChat, XBOX Live

    Hello ALL
So I have a driving me crazy problem, which I have tried MS Support, Netgear Support and Demon Support, so now I am asking the masses.
I have an iMac and PowerBook, running OSX 10.4.3, and a Netgear DG814 Router, with built in modem and ethernet ports.
When surfing the web, either Safari or Firefox, the page often starts to load, then freezes on the progress bar, a quick refresh normally sorts it out.
MSN Messenger or iChat, fine at the start, then after sending a handful of messages, signs me out.
XBOX(360) live signs me in, the after 4 minutes signs me out.
iTunes 6, starts downloading a PodCast then freezes, after getting about 2Mb of the file.
    What I have tried:
New firmware on the Netgear Router.
    Installing BroadBand Tuner.
    Uninstalling Broadband Tuner.
New cables to my telephone socket.
    New cables to my ethernet.
    Rebooting all equipment.
Resetting the settings in my XBox 360.
Downloading podcasts as MP3's instead of subscribing.
Opening ports on Mac OSX Firewall for iChat and MSN.
Please help, this is driving me crazy.

Hi Ben de Freitas, just responded to your iMac question, now will take a try at this one.
There was a recent thread on here about a problem connecting to a Belkin router. Solution that finally worked after trying:
    1. Power cycle the iPad
    2. Reset WiFi settings
    3. Hard reset of iPad...hold both sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears
    4. Power cycle the router.
The last had to be done by a reset button on the back of the Belkin router. Make sure the router is shutdown completely before restarting it.
Enter all of the network settings by hand into the iPad. Make sure Settings > Safari AutoFill is turned OFF.
    See if that doesn't help.

  • IPad 3G keeps dropping connection to Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G Wifi Hotspot

In my House, I use Sprint overdrive 3G/4G. My computers connect to this hotspot using WiFi. This is the device I have - http://mobilebusiness.sprint.com/broadband/index.html?pid=4&id9=vanity:overdrive ?id9=SEMGoogle_P_Sprint_MobileBroadband
When I connect to my Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G over WiFi - iPad drops the connection and says subscribe to AF&T Cellular Plan.
Even though my i have 3G in my iPAD, I have kept that only when I travel to a different city. It is frustrating to see iPad connects to Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G - but after 2 minutes drops the connection. My other 2 laptops have no problems - it is only iPad 16G 3G that I have - cannot connect to it.
Pls let me know - how this can be resolved...
    Thanks
    Trip

I tried the Sprint Overdrive service. Failed. Despite trying all of the fixes mentioned here and other places, I had no luck at with the device, and I live near the heart of Dallas--which the Sprint map shows to be saturated in 4G. I drove around a few hours with it, nada. I barely broke 1 Meg during the 5 hours I owned the device.
5 hours later I returned it to the Sprint store, as they offered a no questions asked 30 day trial. Which they should, since this store had no Internet or wifi or 3G connectivity, handy that, considering how badly the device performed. I was then told that I could not have the $162.00 I pad for the device credited to my credit card, which is where they got it from earlier in the day...how handy, they get to use my money for 10-14 days. I was also told that since I had cancelled the same day, that there would be no monthly bill...well this past Friday I got a bill for $44.00. I took it to the store today to see what was up, they called a Sprint rep, and he told me not to worry about it. Yeah, sure, like I am going to listen to them. The next thing I know I would likely have a late payment on my credit. I figured the only safe way out was to insist that they accept my $44.00, and I will let them credit me for it, if I am so lucky. What I expect is yet another bill that I should be getting. Sheesh.

  • C4795 Wireless Printer keeps dropping connection...what am I doing wrong??

Hey everyone. I have an HP C4795 Wireless printer and am using a Cisco Linksys E1000 wireless router (very new). I continuously loose the connection to the printer, even though the router, printer, and my computer are in a 10 foot radius of each other. I can connect the printer to my computer via USB and it prints perfectly, but the whole reason I got it was for the wireless functionality. I am running Windows 7 on one laptop, and Windows XP on the other, same problem with both. When I restart the printer/router, it will find it for a little while, and then loose connection (again, same on both laptops). I know this issue has been discussed, but is there anyway to "jump start" the printer to "reconnect" to the network without having to manually restart the printer/router (or hook up via USB)?? I am so lost. I have tried everything. I just want the printer to not go off the network and I'm lost...ANY HELP??? THANK YOU!
    Merry X-Mas and Happy Holidays!

Nevermind, figured it out by reading this thread (if people are having the same issue). The only thing to add to these instructions is that you are going to have to add the printer again, after changing to manual IP address:

  • NSS 4000 keeps dropping connections

I have a nss 400 in place at a customers. The firmware is current. i t usually works fine, except that it drops connection and users can't get to the folders. They get a message that drive:x is not available and a semaphore timeout has occurred. the obnly way to get them back in is to reboot the nss 4000. The box is wired to a CE520 using etherchannel on two married ports.

Sorry if I came accross accusitory, is just that the logs are showing that the NSS is not able to write to /etc/conf. Also the users are not being bound to UIDs. Since the firmware has not been modified the only thing I would suggest is to default the unit and reload the firmware. If you decide to do this make sure that you install the firmware twice; back to back. This will ensure all of the old code is deleted.
Again the problem is with UIDs and SID binding. In otherwords the user names are not being found on the unit and the unit is not able to access the password data base.
