Torch 9860 seemed to lose charge

Phone just died on me, will not allow me to open any function, screen black! Have removed battery and tried recharging with no effect. Blackberry logo on screen but log on line at base only 2/3rds across screen! I have recently bought a new charger, thinking that was the problem!

  • My Magic Mouse and Mobee charges seems to lose the connection every day. I've used it with no problem for about 6 months or so, no it keeps losing connection even after recharging overnight. Any ideas?

I seem to lose the connection of my Magic Mouse often, daily and sometimes several times during the day using the Mobee charger even after charging overnight.  Ideas?
The charger is plugged into my Cinema Display and has worked fine for 6 months or more.
    Thanks !

    Thanks Steve-
The problem seems to have just gone away.
I wrote to Mobee, and their answer is to take the batteries out, recharge and see if that does the trick.
Having been through this once before, and sending pictures along of the MM, which didn't help, it was just an oddball problem that has gone away.
I'll keep an eye on things.
I guess it's just one of those mysteries of Apple and the third party.

When I don't use the iPod for a few days and then try to start it up, it won't turn on at all. The only way I can get it to work is to connect it to the computer. • BlackBerry Presenter + Torch 9860 = World of Pain

    BlackBerry Presenter. Nice idea, eh?
Who wouldn't want to save the weight of lugging a PC around when a handheld would do the job? [Except that it doesn't.] Amazon details say Torch 9860 is supported. OS version needs to be above 4.6. Mine is v7.0; I duly shell out money. Box arrives a few days later.
    Honeymoon Period
Power up the Presenter, look at all the pretty lights. Download & install the desktop software. Connect the Presenter, update the firmware. What next? Oh yes, follow the email link to install the handheld software and we'll be away. But wait! What is this? An error message:
"Your device is not supported. Go away." *
    Honeymoon Over
Oh, OK, I'll find a spare weekend morning to do the v7.1 OS upgrade. Sparkly new features. (Well, 1 of them is useful and if there are some patches to the unresponsive screen issues then maybe this investement in free time will be worth it). Now I have v7.1 installed, let's follow the link....
"Your device is not supported. Why are you persisting with this?" *
Lot's of web searching. Idle hours spent on the utterly useless and inappropriately named "Knowledge Base". Presenter doesn't support the Torch. Presenter does support all devices above 4.6. Presenter should not be used in the bath. Skiing whilst using the Presenter is not advised. Problems with your love life caused by prolonged use of the web site are not the responsibility of RIM or its employees. *
Aha! A deep link into BlackBerry.com to the actual software for the 9860 (supported).
“Error 404a – This page no longer exists and now you’re trying to be clever. You again? Your DEVICE IS NOT SUPPORTED whatever it is! Give up! Go away!” *
OK. Back the retailer. The trusty Sale of Goods act will swing my retailer into action on my behalf. Amazon respond at the speed of light or thereabouts: here are contact numbers for RIM in the UK, links to specific support and an email address. It's a tech problem, they'll help. Sorry you’re having problems. All the best, etc *
Follow the links. Find myself back at the Knowledge Base, again in search of enlightenment. Hmmm. Try the (non-freephone) telephone number. "Press 1 if you are a distributor, press 2 if you have a support account, 3 if you have no life or 4 to be sent around interminable links of our automated system until you lose the will to live" * I select 4 and due to a fault in the system find myself speaking to a sleepy but well-meaning chap in America. He is determined to help me. After some time trying to establish what strange BlackBerry device this is I have bought ("Yes, Presenter. P-R-E-S-E-N-T-E-R. P for Papa, R Romeo, E Echo" - you get the drift) he (politely) explains in the way that only a twenty something graduate can that this device isn't actually made by RIM, it's from a 3rd Party ("That's kinda like another company that we use to like do stuff for us..." *) and therefore there is not much information in his KnowledgeBase about it. "Can you try this link, sir?". Oh whoopee. We're back in the user manual. Yes, I can try following a link to App World. No, I can't find the app there any more either. My helpful assistant eventually gives up when I decline paid support, and gives me an email address to which to send my problem and advises me to see my network provider. This email turns out to be for their “Idea Processing” department. The automated response asks me to sign a confidentiality agreement before sharing my ideas on how the product may be improved. I decline, life being too short to pursue this line of attack.
Network Provider (Vodafone) is ridiculously helpful in the circumstances. They can't get it to work on a 9860 or a Bold 9900 either. They photograph the same error I have on the chance it will help BlackBerry chase down the problem.
Back to Amazon. “Thanks for copying your email to BlackBerry, We’re really, really sorry this is not turning out to be fun. Here’s the contact details of the 3rd party who actually supplied this item to you. Lot’s of love, Amazon. *”
Aha! This will be a fully accredited RIM partner with exclusive access to their limitless training resources. I am only seconds away from “Oh – you need this new version of the handheld software!”
    But…no.
“Dear Sir, I'm sorry for this issue. I never used this presenter myselft [sic] so I can't really help you. I'm fine to refund this order for you.”
Me: “Can you contact BlackBerry and establish the root cause of the problem before I give up?”
Them: “I’m sorry I didn’t as it’s nightmare to get in touch with any manufacture.”[sic] It’s good to see that basic communication skills are still being tort at skool.
    Penultimate Episode:
Let’s try the 1 person in BlackBerry with whom I have previously corresponded (regarding integration of BES with Office 365 but you never know). “Thank you for contacting BlackBerry. We will respond shortly.” + 1 week: Me: “Any progress on this?” “Thank you for contacting BlackBerry. Your email has not been delivered. Please consult the Knowledge Base”.
    Final Episode:
Rant on the forum. Before I take the Presented and smash it with a club hammer, maybe someone who designed the Presenter will read this. Or even Sting’s lawyers:
I’ll send my SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my (x3)
    Message in a bottle
    Message in a bottle
I’m sending out an SOS, sending out an SOS. (repeat until fade)

  • Torch 9860 - Problem with wifi network

    Hi,
I have a BB Torch 9860 and the internet access doesn´t work properly when connected to a wifi connection.
With my carrier data plan, everything works. Every time i connecto to a wifi connection, the internet access stops working. I tried to clean all registered networks, added new networks, everything i can remember of, but nothing works. The only way to get internet access on my phone, is with the carrier´s data plan.
Is this some kind of bug or software block?
I serched through the forum, and tried some of the solutions and sugestions, but nothing works.
The only satisfied part with this purchase so far is my carrier who seems to be very happy with the access through their data plan!
Can anyone give me a hand on this subject?
    Thanks,
    Rui

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Not knowing what you already found and attempted, we risk redundancy...nevertheless, with that risk...
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support. In very rare cases, I have heard of carriers blocking the use of BIS via WiFi...but only they (your carrier) can answer as to if that is what they are doing.
    Oh...wait...another though...a bit of a wild one...please check this:
Article ID: KB30076 How to check for an IT Policy on a BlackBerry smartphone
If you have an IT Policy and are on BES, then talk to your BES admins about if they may perhaps be blocking this. If you have an IT Policy but are not on BES, then you have much bigger problems to deal with...you will need to backup your device, conduct a ResetToFactory, and then restore your device (but ONLY partial...do not do a full restore or it will put the IT Policy back on and you'll be right back where you started).

  • Torch 9860 headphones not working

the headphones on my torch 9860 do not mute the phone and play, so cannot listen to music. They did work but have stopped, headphones are fine on other devices, and i can not find a setting on the phone that might have changed

There's not a setting for that.
Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
    Now, try the headphones again.

  • Torch 9860 does not starts

    help!
my blackberry Torch 9860 does not starts, and the red led blinking a slow time and 3 times faster
I removed the battery and waited, when i put the battery back, nothing happens
I installed the blackberry desktop, but it does not recognize the phone, not from any sign that is connected
I tested with another blackberry and connected everything right, the problem is not the cable or pc
when I connect it via USB the red LED blinks 1 time 3 times fast and slow
when I try to start it nothing happens

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Good luck and let us know!

  • BB Torch 9860 Hangs during booting

I bought a BB Torch 9860 a week back.  Yesterday night the handset got switched off  as the battery had exhausted. In the morning when I was trying to switch it on it was not coming on. I put on charging, there was no indication of charging for some time then it started booting. The booting indicator (the line which indicates that the handset is being booted) went half way and stopped. The system did not respond to switch off button. The battery was removed and put back to restart. Every time it boots to half line and hangs. Would request someone to extend help please.

    Hey thomas_k_s,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
I would suggest to do a clean reload of the BlackBerry® device software as shown here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320, please test before restoring any data to the device.
If this resolves the issue do a selective restore of essential data (Address Book, Calendar, Task, Memos, BBM contacts etc.)

  • [Torch 9860] - Network indicates roaming "Rogers Wireless - Fido" with Fido SIM

    Hello,
    I recently purchased a BlackBerry Torch 9860.
I have a Fido SIM card
When I insert my SIM, and I turn on cellular, the network says "Rogers Wireless - Fido" with the roaming triangle next to it.
Why is this the case and will I be charged roaming whenever I make a call or send an SMS?
    Thanks,
    Tobias
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
You need to check if your BB is unlocked or not...see this:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/General-BlackBerry-Functions-and/Unlocking-your-BlackBerry-Gu...
If, for instance, your BB is locked to Rogers, then when you try to use a Fido SIM, it may be having to run via the Rogers network to get to Fido. Or, if Fido has no coverage where you are, it may have to roam on Rogers to get to Fido.
As for billing, you have to talk to Fido and/or Rogers about that.

  • [Torch 9860] Unable to subscribe podcasts over Wi-Fi

    Hello,
    I have a Torch 9860 running 7.1
I am unable to subscribe to podcasts over Wi-Fi.
Is there anything I can do to make this functional?
    Thanks,
    medacomix15

i dunno.  If you are home, and the computer is home - why not just plug it in?  I tried the wifi syncing when it first came out, and there is so much data flying back and forth - a momentary loss or hiccup in the wifi signal scews up the sync.   To me, just not worth the effort.
System updates, on the other hand seem to work fine .  That is a one way data transmission with checks and resends as needed - more or less just a large download.

I purchased an unlocked Torch 9860. Took it to Verizon and was told it couldn't be used on my account. So...went to Straight Talk. Same answer. No one seems to have a compatible SIM card. What provider can I use this phone with? Would really like to keep my Verizon account. Any advice?

  • 4G iPod loses charge fast, turns on with Hold switch, when I touch it

Hello all. I've dropped my iPod more than twice. The battery performed great for years until a few months ago. It just suddenly seemed to lose all life. I replaced the battery, watched the video for the instructions, etc. This new battery is supposed to have more capacity but it loses it's charge fast. It might play a couple of hours and the battery icon shows maybe 3/4 remaining--good enough--but then the next day, it might be completely gone. I have done a restore and made sure that the alarm is not on. Another thing that happens is when I take the iPod off of hold when it's off, it turns on. And also, the backlight seems to turn on at times (though not consistently and not for the most part) when I merely touch it. Did I install the battery wrong? Has it had one too many falls?
It's performed great since I got it. Still syncs just fine, sounds great. I wonder if anyone can tell me anything I can try to restore it's battery function and fix what went wrong with the hold switch and the touch issue. Afterall, this is not an iPod touch

when I take the iPod off of hold when it's off, it turns on.
I think that is normal. My 4th gen turns on if I move the HOLD switch from ON to OFF when the iPod is off.
For the battery, when you install a new one, you should charge it full. Then you should let it run (not charge it) until it is completely discharged (iPod will not turn back on). Then charge it completely full. You may want to do that cycle one more time. If you have not let it go from full charge to zero charge by letting it play continuously, give that a try. After charging it full, use it normally.
If the battery charges and has good playtime, but it does not hold a charge overnight, it is possible that the battery (not the iPod) is defective.
the backlight seems to turn on at times (though not consistently and not for the most part) when I merely touch it.
Well, that's normal too, if you have it set so that the backlight comes on for a few seconds when you use the controls. Go to the iPod's Settings screen and check the +Backlight timer+ setting. Also, you can go to the iPod's Settings screen and select +Reset All Settings+ to initialize to the default settings.

  • Torch 9860 does not disconnect after ending call

    Hi,
I have been having this peculiar problem with my blackberry torch 9860 smartphone for the past 1 week. After finishing a voicecall, in many situations the phone does not disconnect even if I press the end call button repeatedly. It just seems to "hang" for 30-40 seconds and then disconnect. Sometimes it dosconnects only if the person at the other end hangs up.
Kindly help out in solving this issue

Try a Battery pull please, with the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery 15 seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot device. This will clear all cache like rebooting a PC. Then try again and see if your problem persists.

  • My Iphone 4 loses charge while charging.

I have been having a couple different problems with my Iphone 4 lately I thought when I went to the Apple store yesterday it would be better. In some ways my Iphone is working better but for some reason when I charge my phone it slowly loses charge. It usually doesn't go below 90% but still why would it do this? Yesterday when I brought it in they redid the firmware saying it might be corrupted but it doesn't seem that has anything to do with the charging. I actually bought an entirely different cord thinking maybe mine was broken or something. So it's definitely not the cord considering the help I just got didn't make the problem any less prominent. My other problem was that my battery was draining like crazy whenever I didn't use it very much. I'd be working and check my phone on my break and it would be down to 40% or 30%! I charge my phone all night so I have no idea how it would lose so much battery. Since they re-installed the firmware im not sure if it will keep doing this or not but I will definitely go back if I keep having problems. The biggest thing is the charging issue, does anyone have any ideas?

It is actually an Apple Ipad charger I'm using just bought a new one at the Apple store yesterday cause I thought my old Iphone 4 charger had someone wrong with it and was making it not charge correctly. They were both Apple ones I would never use a 3rd party one or a computer.
I can check on email being the cause I did hear that can be some peoples problems with charging. Other then that I just put all my apps back on (when they did the firmware install I lost everything and had to put it all back on) since I did that I haven't actually used any apps to see how my phone would work. No facebook and no game center should be running. Also no exchange accounts just regular yahoo ones. So its either App Store or Email. What do you do to make your email not drain so much battery while charging?
