Torrent Clients - Possible solution to slow speed
You can always check with Glasnost to see of you are being throtled:
http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest.php
But before that try this:
Set your torrent has client (usualy in prefernces) to 'limited' for upload and download rates
and specifying a value of 999999 in their respective boxes.
I previously had the scheduler on 'full speed' and it was very,very slow..
In fact the same file has just gone from 2.5kb/s ro 64kb/s.
Let me know if it works!
All the best
Steve
Did it make any differnce to your speeds?
I have had this same issue on 2 systems for a year or so. Both have the same realtek nic built in on the mobo - Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. Both systems have the same issue with speeds. have a 75/75 connection they both show a consistent download of around 83 and upload varies between 5 and 15. I've tried changing drivers and got the same results. Made the changes you noted and no difference. I figure it's a mobo problem. I added intel nics and that made a little diffrence - got the upload speed up to about 30. As I have other systems that work fine - consistently about 83/85 - I just finally ignored the issue and never bother doing uploads on the defective systems.
Would be nice to know the answer though.

Possible solution to slow internet speed
I'm not promising anything here but this worked for me. I recomfigured my AEBS from scratch and didn't fool with anything else. now the weird part that made my base station work finally was placing the base station on its face (part with light facing down) my connection is great once again. I also placed the Airport farther away from the modem . I think the New AEBS can't handle & causes interference with other electronic devices(in my case the cable modem is next to it with my macbook.)
overall, I think the EM field around the base station might be a cause of all the problemsI had the same problem. I had WPA enabled and my internet was slow and would not go over 4000 kb on speed tests. With no security i got 16000 kb.
There are quite a few bugs in the Airport Extreme. I have slow wireless with WPA and i cannot open any ports using NAT-PMP or port mapping.
Very disappointing.
Apple better release a update soon or i am goin to return it and buy the dlink dir-855 when it comes out. I want a dual-band wireless router. -
Possible solution to slow upload speed
After my old home built rig died I built another. Speedtest.net consistantly showed at least 75/75 with old rig and new one was 85mb down and only 35mb-40mb upload. Having seen this in the past I explored. Old rig used onboard Atheros network interface card (aka 'NIC'), new rig has onboard Realtek NIC.
Problem: Slow upload speeds but only after computer has been unused for a period of time. We all do this.
Note: Every single Windows install by default has "'Power Management" turn off the NIC when not in use. To disable NIC power down go to driver properties "Power Management" tab and uncheck all boxes.
After ruling out the obvious - Your PC, Router and Verizon tests, and have flushed your browser cache and DNS, here is the most likely problem causing intermittent slow upload speeds:
TEST 1: Upon complete computer reboot (not sleep or hibernate) up and download
speeds are ok.
SYMPTOM: Computer first powers down (after whatever minutes power settings are set
at) and is then woken up.
1) Newer Realtek NIC drivers have three settings of interest under the 'Advanced' tab.
1a) "Energy Efficient Ethernet" Default is 'Enabled'. Set to 'Disabled'.
1b) "Green Ethernet" Default is 'Enabled'. Set to 'Disabled'.
1c) "WOL & Shutdown Link Speed" Default is "10 mbps First" Set to "Not Speed
Down".
2) Problem occurs when computer sits unused then NIC powers up again to the "10
Mbps First".
3) Though the NIC will eventually uprate to higher speed, it will start at lower rate thus
causing the problem.
4) My old Atheros NIC driver did not have the driver settings to save power and the
Realtek one did.
5) Other NIC manufacturers may or may not have driver based power settings. At the
very least go in the "Power Management" settings and uncheck boxes so NIC never
powers down.
Common problem many do not think of in todays 'instant gratification' society. This happened way back in Win 3.11/95 days and continues to this day in all Windows OS's.
Hopefully others find this useful. And yes I shared this with Tech Support for their peer review process. Even if this works for some not all this is a common problem many tend to forget.

Possible solution to slow backup... Delete NY Times App
Hopefully this will help others that are experiencing slow sync of their iPhone.
I was having to wait 15-20 minutes to have the phone backup every time I sync'ed the phone. I have about 35 apps on the phone but once I removed the NY Times app the speed of the backup is now in the secondsI had the same issue. At times I would wait up to 5 hours for the full back-up. Last Sunday I took some pictures with the phone and when I pressed the menu button the phone froze. I could see calls coming in but I couldn't pick them up. I tried to shut it off but when I sled the red slide to the right to shut it off it froze in that position and the phone wouldn't shut off. I mean, this was the crash of crashes!!! I went home and it allowed me to do a full back-up which took about 3 hours. After the back up the phone was in the same condition so I decided to restore it to factory settings. After restore I tried to sync with iTunes which informed me that an iPhone was previously sync and I could restore the phone so I did. It took about 3 hours and now the phone was back to normal but when I connected it again with iTunes it acted as it was the first time so it asked me to restore it again. I did and left it overnight. In the morning it was still half-way done so I decided to unplug. After I unplugged I checked and the phone was all good, just as before the crash. All the apps were there, all the info, absolutely everything. Even the levels in the games I have. I tried to sync one more time and this time it went through the back-up and sync so fast I got scared. I tried it again with the same results. Since then it only takes me a few minutes to sync and back-up and I have upwards of 30 apps on it and about 6Gb of music plus another 2Gb of pictures, podcasts, etc. Restoring it worked for me so it might work for you too.

Possibly solution to slow deleting if using Kapersky Internet Security
In case anyone has a similr problem i discovered today that the File AV within Kersky Internet Security 2010 is killing the process when deelting files making it take forever. The solutions I have found so far are:
a) Turn off the File AV completely under settings
b)There is an option under File AV / settings/additional go to "pause on application startup" click select and at the exe.
Hope that helps someone
MikeFWIW, I have a similar problem with Webroot's Spy Sweeper - it seems to kill MOVE and DELETE performance.
When I've had to copy 100's or 1000's of large files, it will crawl and Windows will report "4 hours remaining"... I turn off the A/V and all of a sudden it's "2 minutes remaining". -
I am learning Italian using a CD in iTunes. Is it possible to play a track at a slower speed to hear better what is being said?
Right, I understand those fundamentals. We outsource a lot of out view creation and do not have permission to create views for Business reasons; these are beyond my control. However, I can see the source code to many Views. We have also
been told that we should not use tables in our queries. Therefore, I need to use existing Views. Specifically, I would like to add an additional value to an IN() constraint. This would change the constraint as showed below:
IN('A', 'B', 'C') ---> IN('A',
'B', 'C', 'L')
I am wondering if this change can be made when the view runs and only for this one report, with the change being made from the report. This would be very easy if the constraint was removing a value. Obviously I could change the constraint from
IN('A', 'B', 'C') to IN('A','B') very easily with out modifying the View. This would be done by writing a query against the view and in the WHERE clause adding the new IN('A', 'B') statement. However, I want to do the opposite and add a value... -
2.4GHZ clients very slow speeds with AP3600
5508 WLC (7.5.102)
AP36021
We currently have a test WiFi SSID setup that uses basic mac filtering on our WLC's
WLAN is configured with WPA and WPA2 L2 Security with WPA Policy and WPA2 Encryption.
For some reason we seem to be getting very slow speeds on clients with 2.4GHZ
for example speedtest.net I get 70mg upload and 65mg download on 5GHZ devices and about 1-3mg download and 1mg upload for 2.4GZ devices!
AP36021 are dual band with 4 channels (2 x 2.4Ghz and 2 x 5Ghz)
fyi - There are no dropped packets on the client stats via Prime mgmt that use 2.4GHZ
Any ideas here?Foreign Primary WLC (let me know if you need the Anchor controller ouput as well)

Slow speed/high SNR margin after upgrade to ADSL2+...
I have an issue with slow speed that I am suspecting is caused by a high SNR margin (about 12dB) which has come about (I believe) due to the fact that my router was repeatedly reset during the first few days of the upgraded service. The exchange was upgraded to ADSL2+ on 3rd January.
I have a US Robotics 9108 which has worked fine for nearly six years. I was getting around 8Mbps before the upgrade which isn't far off the theoretical maximum.
There was a problem with my router and I only found it to be my router at fault over the last few days. Upgrading its firmware has cured the problem which was that requests weren't being fulfilled once connection had been established, (seemingly particularly when this was ADSL2+ or ADSL2 mode). Consequently, I reset my router in these instances and I believe that this will have been interpretted by the exchange as being due to line noise. In general, I disabled ADSL2 and 2+ modes on my router to force it back to G.DMT and it usually worked fine (albeit slow sync rate relative to that I had before 3rd January).
During fault conditions, the connection synced OK. I recently borrowed a router and tried it and it immediately connected faster than mine had done previously and I could access the web without issue. This confirmed that my US Robotics was at fault, and after downloading its latest firmware, it fixed the problem.
There is no bell wire as there are no hard wired extensions from the master socket. I use a single filter which plugs directly into the master socket (i.e. no extension lead to the filter).
I was using a BT filter (MF50) I got in 2004 when I first got broadband. This came with a Voyager 100 modem and is a rebranded YCL one. I have since replaced this with a Z350-UK which I have borrowed. The US Robotics didn't come with any filters.
With the BT filter, caller display does not work at all when the router is connected in ADSL2 mode. In G.DMT mode the problem with caller display was intermittent. The Z350-UK has rectified the problem with caller display not working when in ADSL2 mode. I have ordered a Pressac Interstitial VDSL Faceplate as a perminant solution.
Do I need to contact the support helpline to get this fixed? Or will the SNR margin drop over time? As I say, I got around 8Mbps before the upgrade.
I am presently connected in 2+ mode and stats are:
SNR margin (dB):
12.8

OS X 10.9 freeze when WiFi is turned off (POSSIBLE SOLUTION)
Hi, I just found a possible solution for this problem: my MacBook Pro freeze completely (without the spinning beach ball) after I turn off WiFi.
I have a MacBook Pro 17 inch late 2007 (MacBookPro3,1 - A1229), with a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB card, running OS X 10.9.
What happened:
- I updated the OS from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5
- My Mac started freezing everytime after login, I don't remember if WiFi was on or off
- Reverted back 10.8.4, thank you Time Machine!
- Updated to OS X 10.9
- Everything was OK, but then I did some work in my home and I had to turn off the modem
- Modem was off, so I decided to turn off also the AirPort card on my MacBook Pro
- After a couple of seconds my computer completely stopped responding, trackpad and keyboard were useless, the UI froze
- After pressing the power button I managed to shutdown the Mac and then start it up again
- Now after the startup process I was stuck in loop: WiFi was still off and I had few seconds to login, wait for my account to load and turn on WiFi from the menubar icon; I failed countless times!
- In an attempt to slow down the Mac and earn some more seconds I did a PRAM reset and logged in with the Shift key pressed (after typing my password)
- I managed to turn WiFi on and looked immediatly for clues on Console logs:

This is what happen to my Mac when I turn off the AirPort card; I don't know if "Google Drive" or "libdispatch client" are the problem, but quitting Google Drive solved this madness.
Hope this helps.

Re: MacBook Pro (2007) 3,1 & 10.8.5 freezing
Message was edited by: Tom.myI'm experiencing a similar issue.
In my case, a conflicting kext (kernel extension) from a vitual machine (VirtualBox) was causing an immediate freeze after turning Wi-Fi off. After disabling the kext's scripts, I can now disable Wi-Fi safely but if I reboot then the system hangs at radom instances of boot sequence (for example while showing the apple logo, or at the login screen or a few seconds after entering the password).
I can only boot in single user mode (command-option-S) so after looking around a way to turn on WiFi from the command line, I ended up using a daemon (boot script) that turns on WiFi before anything else happens (at least as soon as the airport card is running).
In any case, I left the instructions here, just for reference.
The script should be created in /Library/LaunchDaemons
It can have any name with "plist" extension, I choosen "com.fixwifi.wifion.plist"
To create the file type: nano /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.fixwifi.wifion.plist
Enter the following text (it's a lot of text, I know, but it is better than nothing):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Label</key>
<string>com.fixwifi.wifion</string>
<key>RunAtLoad</key>
<true/>
<key>KeepAlive</key>
<dict>
<key>SuccesfulExit</key>
<false/>
</dict>
<key>ProgramArguments</key>
<array>
<string>networksetup</string>
<string>-setairportpower</string>
<string>en1</string>
<string>on</string>
</array>
<key>StartInterval</key>
<integer>2</integer>
</dict>
</plist>
When finished, type "ctrl-x", then "y" to save and enter. Reboot.
This script will:
- try to power on the en1 interface as soon as the script loads
- if it fails (because the interface is not running yet), will try to turn it on every two seconds
- once the interface is on (exit is succesful), then unload the script.
Note that this script assumes the airport interface is named "en1". It can also work with the word "airport" (at least in my tests).
Good luck! -
Very slow speeds and ridiculous email and bill for...
Hi
i have several issues. I have been a very satisfied customer for over 15 years until early summer of this year:
1. My broadband speeds remain painfully slow despite 3 complaints and investigations. In fact my line is still connected to the test line as I was advised to do and I have never had a call back as promised.
2. I have now received an email message to say I have used 90gb at a cost of £50. This is almost all uploads. i upload nothing and this figure is impossible. Until June my usage was quite small and I came nowhere near my limit on option 2. Nothing has changed with my usage since then. I do not download or stream films and do not upload large quantities. I probably would stream films, but the slow speed does not allow it.
3. I spent over an hour on the phone trying to sort this out today, but was not helped by a succession of people who barely understood the situation and had even less understanding of customer service. I have now emailed, but have had a message saying it might be 72 hours before a reply.
Any advice would be really helpful as I am at my wits end
Solved!
Go to Solution.Ok....since the original post the problem has continued. I have spent literally hours on the phone to people who say all the same things and never come up with a solution.
The test results are below. I do not experience speeds as reported. And if I use another tester it correctly comes out as about 1 4 - 1.9. or even lower. The upload usage is still showing as high....but it is just not possible. I have now reset the hub wireless key, but I have not shared this with anyone in range. Apple TV is now disconnected after it was going to take 20 hours to download a film!
I am at my wits end with this and really do not want the hassle of changing provider but even after 20 years BT broadband I am so very close to that.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Julie

Very slow speeds during evening.
Hi there, my bt infinity 2 is very slow during the evening. From 5pm to 1am every night. I have spoken to three others who are connected to the same cabinet as me. All with the same issues.
I contacted BT about 1 month who actually got an engineer to have a look at the cabinet or something, I couldnt really hear what he said on the phone. This fixed the problem for around 3 weeks then the problem came back around 4 days ago.
The issue I am having is that BT are no use on the phone like the first guy was, they all just say they will change my wireless channel on my homehub. Even tho I said I do not use wireless. And I don't even own a homehub so good luck with that. I am asking for a nod to help me out here, as the BT call centre guys are useless now.

As you can see my IP Profile is alot higher than my sync. As when the cabinet reset all lines 5 days ago. My sync was much higher then resycned a day later back to the old speed with peak time issues.
Thanks for the help
A possible solution to your IP Profile being wrong is to reboot your router.
Looks like you have noise on the line - possibly a line fault.
Can you confirm the speedtest was done using wired ethernet, not wireless and not power-line adapters?

Can we please have a FINAL solution to slow internet in Snow Leopard?
I've read so many discussions but none of the proposed solutions work for me.
I installed Snow Leopard a few days ago and ever since internet pages take forever to load.
Before SL my internet was running perfectly. I have the same strength connectivity, my router didn't budge and I didn't even move my laptop location. I'm convinced it is SL and I am not happy that I may have to uninstall it and have wasted $30.
I also couldn't believe that there is no way to contact Apple in a way they can respond. They're just leaving the solutions up to regular users and maybe offering an update if a few million people complain.
Anyways, does anyone have a solution to Slow Leopard?WEB100 Enabled Statistics:

Slow speeds, can I have some advice...
Firstly, I have the Westell 9100EM15 router from verizon and I live in the tampa area. Please let me know if getting a different one could make a difference. It's like 2+ years old.
Anyway, I'm getting slow speeds considering I have the 35/35 plan. Youtube videos buffer slowly, and I only get around 3mps for torrents. Can someone explain why Youtube videos won't basically load instantly? Why don't I at least get 20mps on torrents? Note, that I'm using a wireless adapter for my main computer, not wired, which obviously probably makes a difference, but when I used wired, I NEVER got past 3mps when I had 25/10. I cannot used wired anymore anyway since lightning killed my ethernet port. I will buy a pci port if have to, however.
I did buy and hook up a linksys e12000, but the speeds were slower than the stock router. I had to return it. Common, I just don't understand. It's wireless N. My 6+ year old linksys wireless G router that I used to bypass the verizon router was faster. At the moment, I'm using the verizon router, which for some reason just started to be faster than the linksys G.
I'm thinking of buying a Medialink Wireless N Router. It's the number 1 on amazon, but I'm not sure if it'll help. Maybe dual band? I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any advice?Like many others like you, I don't believe there is a fix at your end. At one time Verizon use to say your speed never changed because you have a dedicated line and not sharing a line like Comcast so when your neighbors got on your speed won't change but that isn't part of their ad anymore because we are all attached to a hub and the more people that are on it, the slower our speed will be. Also, there are millions who stream Netflix and Blockbuster over the Verizon lines and the hubs are unable to take that so we in return get slow speed. There is nnot a lot anyone can do about it. I was told it was at my end but with 5 computers(only one on at a time) I did a test and got another router and hooked it up to one of my other computers and tried the speed test thing but it was just as slow. So, when you are tols it is at your end, forget it, it is not. I am suppose to get 10Mbps but between 6pm and 1:00am I am lucky to get 1Mbps. Verizon just needs to add more hubs and the problem is solved. We can't get FIOS in our area but as I can see, it too slows down during certain hours. The only other explaination is at certain times we get capped so the hub does not burn out. I have learned to live around it but most people depend on that speed and should not have to go so slow when the speed is very much needed. There is no solution yet but I am sure Verizon gets enough complaints and will soon fix the problem. Hang in there, they will have to upgrade and I am sure they are doing that now before they lose their customer. But don't let some out source tell you it is at your end, because it isn't.

Slow speeds on new BT Service in comparison with o...
Hi all
I would love some help with this problem: I transferred by Sky package over to BT on 5 October and have seen a deterioration in speed since. I have called the Indian call centre several times and today, after I tried out a new BT Home Hub 2 they sent me, I'm at wits' end! The problem, needless to say, is consistently there.
For the record, I have made sure I've followed your forum's excellent help regarding improving slow speeds. I have ensured all my phone sockets are fitted with working ADSL filters. The Homehub has been moved around the room to several locations, all proving the interference I'm getting is not affected by location at home. My main socket for the hub is fitted with an Accelerator (which did make a slight improvement initially). However, the speeds I was enjoying prior to BT have diminished so far that it seems illogical that the problem exists at my end.
I have a BT Vision box too which works fine through the Comtrend ethernet / wireless sockets provided by BT. Turning these off has no effect on the speed. I bought a hub phone which works fine too.
Here are some stats from TBB's speed test. I performed a BT Speed test earlier and the results are consistently similar. I would have posted the BT results, but they reset before I could do so. Time pressures being what they are, I have to leave in a moment so I cannot wait another hour or so to repeat! 16/02/10 was Sky. Again, everything later than 05/10/10 is BT's.

IPod is not recognized by Windows Vista - possible solution
During the past couple of weeks that I faced this problem I found out that a lot of people had the same question as I did.
Here is a possible solution.
I have HP Pavilion laptop with Windows Vista. After I connected my new iPod – it didn’t show up in My Computer as a new device and in Device Manager it was listed in “Other devices” with a question mark next to it. I already had iTunes installed – it didn’t show up in iTunes. On the attempt to reinstall the driver I had a message that the driver was found but an error occurred while installing it.
Here is what I did:
1. Install iTunes (it has iPod driver for Vista in it).
2. Turn on iPod and connect it to computer.
3. Restart computer with iPod turned on and connected to computer.
4. On the start up the computer will begin automatically installing the driver and the message will appear in the corner that new device is being installed.
5. After it has been installed – check My Computer – you should see it listed there.
6. Run iTunes and configure iPod.
iTunes might run a little bit slow when configuring iPod for the first time.
Good luck.if only this fix worked for windows xp or even 2000 (at my job)
insane, but it IS a driver/usb problem i now know, at least i've gotten that far.
