Toshiba 39L4353DB - picture settings

Hi all,
could anyone advise on the best picture settings for this model. Most reviews say set to Hollywood day or Hollywood pro settings but even with adjustments to contrast & brightness controls the picture seems too greyed out. The standard setting is about the best I can get but seems too vivid for my liking.
The auto view setting is too dark, dynamic too bright. Anyone out there with this model who give some guide what they have set their set to. I have had two previous Toshiba televisions & have given excellent service with no trouble but I feel the picture settings were far superior to the current 39L4353DB.

As Im not mistaken there are three (beside the Dynamic and standard mode) additional picture presents: Hollywood Night, Hollywood Day and Hollywood Pro
Hollywood Night and Hollywood Day mode should be used in different ambient light settings.
Hollywood Pro default values seem to be very similar to Hollywood Night but Pro supports additional auto-calibration function.
But its not easy to provide the best picture settings because this depends always on different factors for example; device which is connected to TV, environment, viewing habits, picture source and quality
I would recommend you to download some basic full hd test images and to calibrate the TV for your own proposes.

Custom Picture Settings for Insignia 42" NS-L42Q-10A

Does anyone wish to share their custom picture settings (contrast, brightness etc.) for the Insignia 42" NS-L42Q-10A? The vivid default is to bright, so I have been trying to come up with a custom setting and would like to hear what has worked for other owners.

Well, it turns out that I neglected to include a critical piece of info in my post. This behavior was occuring when using my Harmony 550 remote with the Insignia TV.
I tested the behavior with the remote that came with the TV and the settings were saved. So I went to change the settings on my Harmony remote when I discovered Logictech had a software update that included the Insignia TV. Installing that update fixed the issue.
And in case anyone else reads this, I am very pleased with this television set. I had to learn a few things about HDTV first though to get everything out of it that it offers.

IMovie Picture Settings Problem

Hello Apple Support Boards members,
The pop-up window of my picture settings when choosing a photo to import (you know, with the Ken Burns effects) is out of my screen's range.
I discovered that using Exposé, but it seems this pop-up window is literally unreachable, being a bit further from the edge of my screen. (right edge that is).
How can I reset its position/ have it back?

This problem can be caused by iMovie's failure to handle one of its own features.
The location of the Photo Settings Window is "stuck" to the location of the project window opening it. This can cause the Photo Settings window to disappear off screen.
Recipe for the problem:
1. Place the project window in the lower right corner of the screen.,
2. Open the Photo Settings window. Drag it to the upper left corner of the screen.
3. Move the project to the upper left corner of the screen.
4. Switch to editing something OTHER THAN photos, which causes the Photo Settings window to close.
5. Now try to open the Photo Settings window. It is inaccessible. It is off-screen, where you can't see it.
6. To rescue the Photo Settings window, drag the project window back to the lower right corner of the screen. Or Quit iMovie and re-open the project.
To avoid this problem, routinely place the Photo Settings window over the Preview area.
Another way to avoid the problem is for the iMovie programmers to check the location of the window before it opens, and always move it on screen. (Tsk, tsk.)

Picture Settings being overidden

My Picture settings for Mode, light effect, and energy savings are being overidden somehow every 20 minutes. Also if I set these settings on the TV then when I turn on the STB they immediately change. I did speak to a Verizon Tech on the Phone and he claimed it was not FIOS but something in the TV.

Hmm, I know my STBs usually reset their own video settings when they are turned on/off (i.e. SD override, resolution, etc.), but I haven't heard of them resetting the TV's.

As far as I know the Toshiba Picture Enhancement Utility was preinstalled on some Qosmio G series units which were delivered with the Windows XP Media Center Edition.
I didnt find the Picture Enhancement Utility for Qosmio G30 PQG31E on the Toshiba driver page therefore I think this tool was not installed on this notebook.
Ps: I found the Picture Enhancement Utility for Qosmio G20 PQG21. Its a 3.3.0.0 version.

Photo Booth: Have lost picture settings, i.e. color, black and white, etc.

I have somehow lost the ability to choose what type of picture I want. The selections have always seemed as if they were chosen by a not very bright child, but there were at least three settings that were practical and useful. Now I only have black and white. My guess is that the problem is similar to when you sometimes lose the menu bar. The question is, how do I get my different settings back?

(1) Does the problem go away if you quit and relaunch
Photo Booth?
(2) Does the problem go away if you restart your
Mac?
(3) Does the problem go away after you perform the
routine maintenance operations?

Editing picture settings

So I have a picture that has already been loaded onto the timeline, rendered, and is thus no longer in the 'clips' area since it has already been placed on the timeline. I want to change the motion settings, so I click 'media' then 'photos' then select the photo by clicking it on the timeline, then select 'show photo settings' under the 'media' pane. The problem is that once I click to show the settings the place where the picture should be, where it's viewed to see the resulting motion, there is no longer a photo. The viewing area turns completely black, on every photo that I hit show photo settings, so it makes it useless and I can't edit them at all. What to do?

Yup, it's a major problem for anyone who makes slideshows. It was introduced in iMovie 6.0.3, if I recall. Apparently some programmer decided he's make the iMovie Trash smaller by discarded images the project no longer needed, forgetting that users might want to Update a clip later.

N85 picture settings question

I tried asking this in the "N Series" section but got ver very little help. I figured those posting in this section are more interested in the picture side of mobile phones. So therefore are more knowledgable and be better at helping.
So here it goes:
I have a Nokia N85 and i'm having trouble sending and receiving pictures full size. If i do receive pictures or send them to other phones they are signifcantly reduced in size and appear as a small square on screen. I have attached a pic of my phone screen with a picture displayed that was sent to me after from my girlfriends N85.
I have been through the settings to the best of my knowledge and set the image size to large but this seems to have no effect.
To do this i went to MESSAGING>OPTIONS>SETTINGS>MULTIMEDIA MESSAGE>IMAGE SIZE (set this to large)

I may be wrong here, but I think the size of the picture is network dependant, so you may need to check with your operator.
The best option would be to email the pictures instead of using MMS.

I see what you are saying about IPhoto saving a different image (a jpeg in the Previews folder I presume) but I believe IPhoto does save the edits - as they always show in the Edit section for the modified photos (ie if I up the exposure by half a stop, IPhoto does somehow retain that info).
From an IPhoto point of view only, it is possible to look at any edited photo and:
1) make a note of all edits on the modified picture
2) revert to original (to get back to the raw file)
3) re-apply the exact same edit settings to generate the same adjustments on the raw pic.
My point is that both raw and adjustments information are available in IPhoto and I was really expecting the importing process from IPhoto to Aperture to be more clever in a similar fashion:
1) make a note of all edits on the modified picture (from IPhoto)
2) Import the RAW version into IPhoto
3) re-apply the exact same edit settings (mapped from IPhoto edits to Aperture adjustments) to generate the same adjustments, on the raw pic, in Aperture - thus creating a single version containing the IPhoto adjustments but based on a Raw master.
To be honest, the way Apple "sells" how easy it is to move from IPhoto to Aperture and retain all the editing effort is a bit misleading to my taste based on the above... And with all the hangs/crashes I have been experiencing with Aperture (my machine is very stable otherwise - even IPhoto with a 100GB+ library never crashes), I feel quite let down with Aperture.
Do you know if a script would allow to apply the steps that I described above?

MMS Picture settings etc Lumia 800

Hi All,
Lumia 800, I have got the internet working on it fine through APN but I cannot find anywhere the MMS settings to receive picture messages or send them.
Everytime I send a picture message I get a message saying cannot send or if someone sends me a picture message, I get a little message saying view content - I click it and nothing happens.
I hate this phone so much, Why have a phone if you cannot even use it for what's suppose to do?!
Never buying a Nokia again hate them so much!

MMS settings for Nokia Lumia
Here is what I did:
Download the Network Setup tool for the Lumia 800 (I suspect it is also available for the 610/710/900).
Ran the tool, selected Virgin as the Operator
Pressed the "+" at the bottom to select "add apn"
Entered the following details
Connection name: Virgin2
Under Internet APN, Access point name: goto.virginmobile.uk
Proxy address: 193.30.166.4
Proxy port: 8080
Username: user
Password: (I left this blank)
Under MMS APN, MMS access point name: goto.virginmobile.uk
Proxy address: 193.30.166.2
Proxy port: 8080
Username: user
Password: (I left this blank)
MMSC address: http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002
Save
Select Virgin2 as settings option
I still found it was not working and upon ringing Virgin they told me my SIM was not yet MMS enabled. To do this, they told me to send a picture to myself. You will only need to do this if your SIM is brand new and you have never sent a picture message before from this number.

Picture Settings Help Please.

I am new to this forum and did do a basic search to see if this topic has been covered and did not see one. Can anyone please tell me how to change the settings on my computer so that every picture I ever view online or in my mail is not saved to iphoto? Most of the time, when I google info for my mac, I need to call a translator, so basic language would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I have so much memory dedicated to stupid logos, banners and ads that I can't update my ipad!

Please call your apple store or apple care about this. I know that my Apple stores offer free or a minimal charge class that shows you what you need to know about your mac. Some people find this more beneficial then just learning as they go. I have found that some things that I am trying to do are so simple that I over look it completely. Asking in this community is a great way to figure things out. You have done this, which is superb!
Images should not be downloading themselves from safari to iPhoto without your explicit concent or action to do so. This is not a default setting. You can tell safari to save your images, if you are the one who is saving them, to a different folder if you wish, by going to safari, click File in the upper left of the screen next to the  logo. Then click preferences. you should see a screen like this
Eight rows down you can see a setting that says, save downloaded files to: (I have Downloads). You may want to make sure Safari did not set this to iPhoto.

Toshiba 39L4353DB manufactured by Toshiba or Vestel?

While reading other forums some people say that some Toshiba T.V. models are made by Vestel.
Anyone have any ideas on this subject? The model I have is the 39L4353DB anyone know if it is a true Toshiba.
I must admit over the last 10 years or so I have had 3 different Toshiba
T.V.s and have all been reliable, the first one a 26 inch model still going strong as a second T.V.
The second one was given to a family member when I upgraded to the current smart T.V.

Vestel seems to be one of the OEM manufacturer available worldwide but unfortunately, I didnt find any further details.
But I dont know why this is so important for you.
I mean many electronic companies work together with 3rd party OEM manufactures.
For example: the IPhone isnt manufactured by Apple but by Foxconn, Quanta and others....

Please Help...Spent 4 days trying to return my toshiba to factory settings

Hi, I know nothing about computers or partitions or anything. I'm just trying to restore my Toshiba Satellite L755-S5110 to factory out the box conditions. I've done this with other Toshibas and it was very easy. I have read endless forum posts that say to press F8 or 0 or F2. I've probably tried combinations of all these things well over 100 times and cannot get any kind of screen to come up saying warning or related to factory reset. I have no disks (not even sure what this means). Basically when I press 0 i get a beep sound but then it just goes to the regular log in screen. I have tried f8 and it goes to a kind of basic page, i scroll down to the options mentioned in the forum but it just send me on my way to the login page.
Please someone help me, I'm about to just throw this computer in the trash

Thanks for your help but I have tried that on numerous occasions. Following the directions of page 64, I shut down the laptop and then reboot with F12
It takes me to a "Boot Menu." I move the cursor down to "HDD Recovery" as advised.
The next things I see is, "The hard drive recovery process has been selected. Please choose Yes (Y) if you are sure that you want to continue." I select Yes, but instead of going to a screen that would allow me to begin the restore process, it simply starts up and goes to my login screen.
Any idea why it is doing this?

Toshiba 56HM195 picture and sound shut off; blue light still on

The sound and picture will randomly shut off together but the blue light on the front under the screen stays on. The tv will not respond to the remote or the buttons on the side. I have to unplug then plug it back in and it will work fine for several hours before doing it again. I have tried replacing the lamp but that did not change anything.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Try leaving the TV unplugged from power over night. If the problem persists, it may require servicing.

Picture settings are really about user preference. There is no right or wrong settings.
