Toshiba 42AV500 EDID problem?

Hi,
I have a Toshiba 42AV500 LCD television which is HD ready (1366x768 pixels).
I recently bought a computer (Intel NUC) that has only HDMI and DisplayPort output. I tried to connect the computer to the TV via HDMI (there is no DisplayPort input in the TV)  but then, where selecting resolution on the computer, it allows me to select either 720p or 1080p.
Both resolutions look horrible on the TV, and I understand that it is because the screen has to be scaled down (on 1080p), or streched (on 720p).
I understand that the problem is probably with the EDID the TV sends to the computer, which basically means that the TV is telling the computer that it supports either 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1080 (1080p) instead of 1366x768 which is the native resolution of the TV...
I'm at a loss - do I seriously need to replace my TV because of this?
Please help......
T.R.

A PXE error means that the computer is trying to boot from the LAN port. Go into the Bios and check the computer's boot order. Make sure that the hard drive, usually abbreviated HDD, is the first boot device. If the hard drive is the first boot device and you are still getting the PXE error, this is because the computer is unable to boot from the hard drive. If this is the case, your best option is to reinstall the operating system. The bad news is that if you reinstall the OSyou will lose all of your data and files.

  • Toshiba L7300 Exit problems

Let's face it, this TV has almost no apps but can some one please tell if why it is that when I exit out of an app like YouTube, it goes to a blank screen and will not change back to the home menu unless I then press the home key.  It seems like the exit button is on the remote just for the fun of it.
I thought the TV was just being slow, which it is real slow, but after letting the TV sit on a blank screen for 30 minutes, I figured it was time to press the home button.
You may laugh and ask why let the TV sit for so long...
When I say the TV is slow, I have a dead turtle that moves faster than this TV.
now the moderator is going to say call techincal support.  But moderator, how about some more apps and fix the software.  I cannot bekeved that the software was upgraded to this.  What a joke.

I agree, a peron's nationality has nothing to do with a crappy Toshiba product.
Tell Toshiba thanks for the new update on the cloud TV.
Once again, rather than fixing the problems, they changed their advertisers on the main screen.
i cannot tell you how happy I am that every other week I have to wait for the TV to update so I can get new ads from Toshiba.
    Still no flash support...
i almost fell this is a Apple product (Apple make crappy products)

  • Toshiba L675 Recovery Problem

I have a Toshiba L675-S7048 and have tried restoring the unit to "Out of Box" state.  When I received the laptop about 1 year ago, I immediately created recovery dvds.  I used those Dvds two times and the recovery process does not seem to complete itself.  It appears I do not receive the Windows 7 Setup screen where I enter my name, time zone, etc.  I do receive a syspro box that when I click on it, it comes as an error.  So I have recently tried holding down the 0 key and recovering the unit using the partition recovery system.  Same thing.  I contacted Toshiba and the  first person wanted to charge me $50.  I spoke with someone else who didn't seem to know what they were doing and told me to unplug the battery and do a recover again, so I am doing that.  Something tells me I am going to get the same thing.  I think it seems that the original recovery parition that was put on this laptop was defective, and of course, Toshiba wants to charge me $29.95 to have a new recovery dvd mailed to me.  It seems very unfair because the problem was put on this laptop from the factory and therefore you would think, Toshiba would send me a new recovery dvd because they realized they messed up.    Just wanted to see if anyone else was having the same problems and if so, did you find anything that fixed the issue. Thanks.

I have some help if you might need it. First of all,Tech Support does not exist. Any time you give them a call, you will get someone that has no clue about Computers. So, when it comes time to buy extended sevice, don't buy it.
If you have AOL as an ISP, they will fix your computer  free when you subscribe to thier $17.50 package. You only have to register your laptop with them and if you ever have a problem, contact them.
Also if you have Direct TV sattelite service, they also have a repair service for any electronics that you own.
As for recovery of your laptop, do a restart and when the screen goes black, hold the number 0 down, and be sure that all things pluged into you laptop are un-pluged. It will prompt you to full out of box recovery.
I hope that I have answered some of your questions that you have asked. I've been a comp tech for many years and I build full systems and do company programing. I'm on this forum often, when I see a problem, I will try to help.

  • Toshiba Canvio Restore Problem

    Hello,
I am having trouble with the restore option on my Toshiba Canvio external hard drive. I have pictures and other media backed up on the drive which I can no longer access. The files are on the drive, but somehow I am unable to access or recover them. The only files I am able to retrieve are the last two backups I made.
    Here are some attached screenshots.
In the first image you see my opening an older backup.
In the second image you can see the restore box. Here is where the problem exists; I cannot see or access any files. If I click on "restore" it comes with a message saying "please select a valid job!".
In contrast, in the third image we see a more recent backup where you can see all the files.
Please help!! How can I fix this problem and restore my old files!

    Hi,
I'm assuming that NTI Backup Now EZ is what comes with the Toshiba drive (I have a Canvio, but didn't install the Toshiba software)?  And that's what you used to do the backups?
I think that NTI Backup compresses all of the files that you backup into ".NBF" files, the files  as shown in your problem2.jpg image.  I did some quick googling, and didn't find any thing to extract files directly from the .NBF files, so you're probably going to have to use the same software that you used to do the backup, to restore.
Have you tried just clicking on one of the .NBF files?  What happens?  Sometimes apps  associate with extensions like .NBF, so that might just startup NTI  Backup in restore mode.
Another thing,  in your problem3.png, did you check some of the  checkboxes in the left pane  (to select which directories you  want to restore) before you tried clicking the Restore button?

  • Toshiba a305-s6916 problem with touchpad burning my hands

This is a great laptop but the touchpad overheats alot. my hands feel burned and red after about 2 hours of use. Is there anyway to deal with this issue? all thru the product reviews for this model you see this being mentioned. so i think theres a defect with this model Kinda a health hazard i think.
Has anyone from bestbuy contacted toshiba about this matter?

    Go to Solution.

There's a few things that could be. One of the largest possibilities is a faulty heat sink since the problem seems to arise after prolonged use.
If you've had the computer for under a year or have a service plan from Best Buy, you can take it up to the Geek Squad Precinct and they can check it in for Diagnostics to replicate the problem.
If there is a problem, they can have the computer sent to either the manufacturer or their service centers to remedy.

  • Toshiba SP4320 drivers problem

    Hello everyone!
I am Michael from Athens. I hope I put the thread in the correct section, as I thought that "SP" propably means "Satellite Pro". My girlfriend owns a Toshiba SP4320 laptop. In some way, she broke it, making it unable to boot to Windows XP no matter what! I tried Safe Mode, I tried Windows Repair, nothing! So, I concluded that the only way to bring it back to life it's by formatting it and reinstall Windows.
In the bottom side if the laptop it says: "PIII600/64/12/14T/DVM". I can assume that PIII600 means Pentium 3 @ 600 mhz . "64" could be referring to 64mb of ram. The rest of the data though are unknown for me.
My problem is that, I have spent hours looking for drivers for this laptop, finding nothing. I wonder, no SP4320 broke down ever?? Noone ever needed drivers?? If you could help me finding drivers for this laptop, I would be grateful!! Really!
Sorry if my writing tired you but i'm not used to writing such stuff in English!
    Thank you!
    Michael

First of all, thanks for your answers!!
@Jerry: Thanks for the link! In the download site, there is only a bios update for the specific laptop, and this appears by selecting the "OS independent" choice. Trying with "Windows 2000", I found pretty much stuff like Display and Audio Driver, I even found out about drivers for capabilities I wasn't aware of   If I want to use XP instead of 2000, can I use the same drivers with 2000 by using the Compatibility Mode in XP? I've tried that thing with other kind of programs but I reckon that drivers are a little more complex for a system than a Playstation emulator!!..
@Defender: When I said "broke" I meant that that she caused only software damage. It's just I couldn't find the correct word  My bad. It's hardware works properly without any damages at all. Thank you too for the link! If I mess up with the compatibility mode, the Recovery Disc would be my next (and final I hope) solution!
    Thanks for your time!

  • 2 toshiba satellite laptop problems

    These are my problems
    1. My HDD indicator is blinking even when I do nothing ( blinks every half second or so)
    2. When I go somewhere my display turns off and when I move my mouse display turns on but nothing is happening. Everything is standing still (sometimes 20 seconds, sometimes 2 or 3 minutes ) and than he is ready to work.
    Upgraded BIOS to version 2.20
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
    Laptop: Toshiba Satellite A300-PSAG8E
    anyone know the solutions?
    Need help please! Thank you

    Sounds like windows search.
Windows search provides content indexing, property caching, and search results for files, e-mail, and other content.
I used the administrative option to stop and disable it. It's reversable and can be restarted and set back to automatic.
    http://windows7.iyogi.net/tips/windows-7-indexing-service
At first I thought it was the virtual memory settings causing all the hd activity (thrashing) but I noticed it was happening when the system was idle and the machine has 4gb of ram and very little of it actually used.

  • Toshiba "Flash Card" problem

1 out of 3 times I boot up my computer, after vista fires up I get an error that Toshiba Flash cards has a problem.  Then windows flies off to go seach for a solution and always comes back with none.
Meanwhile, while this 2 minute dance is going on, no other app can be launched.  Or, if you do launch a browser or email application, it will freeze up.
Thus far, no upgrades to Vista have solved the problem nor have any Toshiba updates.
Anyone have an idea how to fix this?
    Thanks!
    Tom

    hi tom!
if you already did updates, uninstalled & reinstalled toshiba utilities but still have the problem, try restarting to safemode w/ networking. download toshiba utilities again & install it on the computer. but in case you still have issue, you can disable startup & services options on system configuration utility. in Run box type msconfig. go to the services tab, click the box at the bottom that says hide microsoft services & at then click on disable all. go to startup tab & then click on disable all. close the window & it will ask you to restart the computer. this is just a workaround to isolate your computer from locking up. to undo changes, just enable services & start tab on system configuration utility following same steps above. the exact resolution for this is backing up your data & performing recovery using original recovery cd for this laptop. have a nice day! • Notebook Toshiba Satellite P10 problem!!!!

    Hi!
I have a TOSHIBA notebook Satellite P10, Windows XP.
It is a new computer, not second hand!
The problem is that it shuts down itself when I connect it to the AC adapter.
The only way I can work is charging it while it is off and then using it while on battery.
The problem appeared after 20 days I bought it.
I sent it to the TOSHIBA service, they updated the BIOS, it worked perfectly for 5 hours (connected to the AC adapter) and then the same problem appeared.
    Do you have any suggestions?
I am looking forward to your replies!
    Christina

    Dear Christina
In my opinion you should not try anything. The unit is a new one and there is valid warranty. I dont know in which country you live but inside of 14 days you can exchange your unit with a new one. Please contact your local dealer. Maybe is it possible to exchange the unit. If not, stay in contact with the service partner. Every hardware malfunction can be repaired and they should check it properly. You have paid a new product and it must work properly.
    Good luck!

  • Solaris 8 on Toshiba 8200 install problem

Has anyone tried to install Solaris 8 on a Toshiba 8200? I have set the CDRom drive as a bootable device but the install does not start, just a flashing cursor on the screen. I have tested the CD in another computer and all is ok. I do not have a USB floppy disk drive so cannot try the floppy disk boot option.
Is there a URL available for a WEB based install?

I would send a request to Technical for Toshiba on their help page at
    <a href="http://www.toshiba.com>Toshiba</a>
They should be more knowledgeable about specific platform issues.  Also go to the HCL documentation to look up EQ

  • Toshiba 51HC85 Convergence problem, won't let me redo convergence

I recently aquired one of these TVs second hand, I can tell the picture quality is top notch, but the convergence is off. No problem, download the manual, start the steps, I scroll through the menu and picture settings to "convergence" and it will not let me go farther, I can not select the converge menu, redo it nothing, I hit enter on the remote and the TV, and nothing works, it will not let me reset the convergence. Any ideas?

This is what it looks like when I try to do what the Apple Genius told me to do.

  • Toshiba laptop contrast problem?

I have a Toshiba i5 laptop and the contrast keeps going completely bonkers for seemingly no reason. I don't do anything extreme on my computer, I don't game or even use a music player, I just have firefox open all the time... and all of a sudden the contrast freaks out and everything is super bright and halo-ee and obnoxious.
I tried doing the color calibration thing and it got to the contrast calibrator and said to use the contrast adjustment buttons on my screen to make the picture look a certain way. Well that'd be helpful if such contrast buttons existed.
i try open XTREME NITRO this site but could not do [Removed] system restart
Any help/advice would be superb. It's really getting irritating...

Post your full model and operating system so we are not guessing. But i would start with uninstalling and reinstalling the video driver.
