  • A205 Startup/Shutdown Problems

I have a Toshiba A205 that is a few years old (out of warranty) that I'm having big problems with. It takes me several attempts to start it up. Sometimes it freezes on the Windows loading screen and sometimes it appears to start all the way to the desktop but is actually frozen and requires a hard shutdown. Often times, when I actually DO get it functioning, it'll freeze in the middle of what I'm doing and require a hard shutdown. If I ever put the computer to sleep, it'll guaranteed be frozen when I open the lid again to try to wake it up. It came with Vista but I did a complete hard drive format and installed Windows 7 Ultimate and that didn't fix anything. I did a memtest86 and all came back normal. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I just had an a205-s4567 that would boot in safe mode and operate all day long, but would freeze at random times when booting into normal mode on Vista.  After many hours of trying different drivers, etc. etc. etc. I noticed the processor speed switch in the bios, used to allow speed stepping or disable speed stepping.  That setting can also be accessed from the Toshiba Hardware Utility.  When set to "LOW" rather than speed stepping, the computer boots fine, and runs fine.  I found this about 30 hours ago, and have been using the laptop and backing up the user's files via Carbonite since then without any repeat of the vexing problem.
This appears to be a driver problem in interfacing with the Intel processor, but could find no further information regarding this.  I saw one post about an a205, where the user went from Vista to Win7 (no relief) to Win XP (worked, but finding drivers is a problem).  My guess is that XP does not interface with stepping processors the same way, and that was what produced the cure.
You may want to see if safe mode operates normally, or just change the bios setting to non-stepping, and see if that works for you.

  • Toshiba a205 sp4027 compatible motherboard

Hello I know my laptop is old but I love it thats why I need your support because I need to change the motherboard of my Toshiba a205 sp4027 because board lever repairs are not working anymore but I dont know what is the compatible motherboard for it.  I try to search on ebay and I found the same look of my laptop it is the toshiba a205 s4777 and I am wondering if the motherboard of this unit is compatible with my own unit. My toshiba a205 s4027 have a intel centrino dua processor with 1gb 555 pc5300 (512 each), 250 gb hdd along with biometric scanner and this is the motherboard code I get from it V000108120.  Follow up question: is all toshiba a205 motherboards are fit with my unit? if not what is the proper motherboard for it? Thanks a lot

There are 2 different body styles for the A205, so you have to do some searching for the other model, and make sure that it looks exactly the same as your current A205.  If it does, then the board will physically fit.  If it doesn't look like your model, then steer clear.  You should also make sure that the board you are looking at comes from a model with the same or more options that yours has (ie fingerprint reader, web cam, etc), to make sure everything is still going to work.

  • Problem with Toshiba A205-S4617

    Problem Description
The computer freezes up randomly, not allowing any kind of action, just shutting down with the on/off button.
This happens in safe mode too.
It has the particularity that one can not turn on/shut down/Log off, if the computer is connected to the power source (i.e. to turn on or shut down the computer I must unplug the "charger" or else it will hang up as I explain earlier)
    - During Turn on
It goes from the green loading bar in black screen that says Microsoft Corporation to a black screen and stays there, sometimes even gets to the welcome screen where one inserts the password, but that's how far it goes, does notgoes further than that.
    - During Shut down
Closes all running programs and icons on desk desappear, closes the windows explorer getting ready to shut down and hangs up right there.
All this problems are present too removing battery and working without it, connected to power source obviously.
    Attempted Solutions
    - Upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium (O.S. by defect) to Windows 7 thinking that the problem could be in the O.S. and changing to a new one could solve the problem.
    (Problem not solved)
    - Downgraded to the Windows Vista Home Premium again with the recovery factory disk, bringing the computer to the original configuration (out of the box state)
    (Problem not solved)
    - Used several repairing software, registry repair, debug, antispyware, drivers upgrade, defrag, HDD check, etc. such as "Advanced SystemCare Profrom Iobit, "Power Suite" from Uniblue)
    (Problem not solved)
    - Thinking it could be a communication problem between hardware and that maybe a bios software upgrade could hold the solution, I upgraded it.
    (Problem not solved)
At this point I don't know what else to do.
Can someone give me a hand so I can at least know what the problem is?
The computer model is A205-s4617 I have not changed or added anything on hardware

  • Toshiba Satellite battery/AC problems?

After days of agony, I broke down and order a new AC adapter and battery for the Toshiba Satellite from Amazon (which cost about $20 for both, new, including free shipping; Toshiba wants over a $100 for the battery and nearly the same for the AC adapter). Anyway, I also ordered new systems recover disks (which cost more than both the above two items). After going through hell--since the instructions on the disks didn't work--I finally got the new system installed--no thanks to the instructions. But the problem is this: when I boot up with just the battery, everything works fine. When I tried booting with the AC adapter plugged in, it doesn't boot up. Both the battery and AC adapter are new. What's going on?

yes, unfortunately Peter. But it's not worth it. New ones are about $329 at Office Depot and it still works in Safe Mode with Networking with the AC plugged in--which makes me think it's a driver problem. Ah well, It's a better option than having it serviced.

Your model does not have the recovery partition. If you no longer have the discs that accompanied the computer, order them from Toshiba.

  • Oracle 8i database data recover problem

    Hi hi,
I've recently encountered a problem on how to restoring data from old oracle folders to a new oracle 8i database.
Originally, my oracle 8i was installed in windows 2000 server on a harddisk (J:\oracle old) separated from that the OS (windows 2000 server) resided. Recently, the harddisk with the OS has been permanantly demaged and I've installed windows 2000 server on a new harddisk (C:\winnt), reinstalled the oracle database (J:\oracle).
However, is there any way to recover the data from an instance of the original database to the newly created database.
I will be grateful for any suggestion? Thanks a lot.

    CREATE CONTROLFILE
    Caution:
Oracle recommends that you perform a full backup of all files in the database before using this statement. For more information, see Oracle9i User-Managed Backup and Recovery Guide.
    Purpose
Use the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement to re-create a control file in one of the following cases:
All copies of your existing control files have been lost through media failure.
You want to change the name of the database.
You want to change the maximum number of redo log file groups, redo log file members, archived redo log files, datafiles, or instances that can concurrently have the database mounted and open.
    Note:
If it is necessary to use the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement, do not include in the DATAFILE clause any datafiles in temporary or read-only tablespaces. You can add these types of files to the database later.
An alternative to the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement is ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE, which generates a SQL script in the trace file to re-create the controlfile. If your database contains any read-only or temporary tablespaces, that SQL script will also contain all the necessary SQL statements to add those files back into the database.

  • TOSHIBA NB550D-111 Recovery problem due to swm error

I own a NB550D-111 (preinstalled W7 Starter SP1 32 bit, av Security Essentials), used mainly for browsing, chat and Skype. Following the july updates, the OS began greeting me with blue screen at every start. I choosed "Startup repair", and after some 20 minutes and one restart, the OS was up and running. The next restart, the same scenario. Every time I ran "Startup repair", sometimes 3 or 4 times to get the system working.
I did a System Restore, but no luck. Still the same blue screen at startup. I ran Check Disc at startup from Command Prompt with /F and /R switches, no errors found. After four days, Startup Repair was unable to solve the blue screen even if I spent almost 4 hours restarting and either choosing Startup Repair or do System Restore.
I went to Restore Factory Settings OS from the recovery partition. I wanted to keep My Documents folder, I changed the location to the second partition). Imagex gave an error at 70% applying the image (a .ttc file that cannot be copied), and after reboot BOOTMGR was missing. I used the usb recovery stick made shortly after I bought the netbook using Toshiba Recovery media creator, wich wiped clean the HDD (eventually lost my files, that's it), re-partitioned and copied the .swm files in the HDDRecovery folder. When applying the image to C: partition, Imagex also gave an error at 70%, the same ttc file.
I installed a clean copy of Starter, installed SP1 and updates and activated online using the serial number from the COA sticker. At first the newly installed OS was incredibly fast (I have only the drivers and Flash Cards installed, no other application from Toshiba), but after the SP1 update the boot time trippled. From my previous experiences with Windows XP, a slipstreamed SP installation of Windows behaves better than one updated with windows update. I'm thinking of a way to reinstall the Toshiba Windows, even full of bloatware as it is, then stop the programs I don't use trough msconfig and services.msc (just as I did in when I bought the netbook).

    Update:
I installed WAIK and the supplement for SP1 of Windows 7.
I got errors when saving the modified wim. I needed to change permissions and owner (Trusted Installer) in the Windows folder, and after copying the files restore old permissions. The modified wim was saved but at unmount left behind in exactly the folders I tangled with in Windows folder. The other modified folders were saved with no problems.
    So, I tried a modified metod 1:
Downloaded 7-zip portable, expanded and ran once in a folder on the second partition (D:) of the HDD.
Created an USB bootable stick with WinRE image found in the HDDRecovery tools.
Booted from USB, started 7-Zip from command prompt. Opened the SWM file and copied all the files in the second folder to the C: partition. Using 7-Zip as a file manager, I replaced the corrupted files with their good variants stored also on the second partition. This time no problems, all files copied ok, no need to change permissions.
Rebooted from HDD, BOOTMGR missing. Booted from USB, the instalation was found and repaired (in two stages). After another reboot from HDD, I was greeted with the "Preparing your computer for the first use". The factory installation took more than 2.5 hours (installation of drivers in the sysprep phase was very slow), instead of a half hour for a clean installation. At the end of sysprep (just before OOBE phase), after reboot BOOTMGR missing, resolved again as indicated earlier.
It took another 3 hours to uninstall bundled Nero, McAfee and Windows Live +applying updates and installing usual programs.
Hope this will help someone in the same situation.

    Bogdan

  • Toshiba 32c3030d Television freeview problems

    Hi,
My TV has decided to stop displaying freeview. (DTV input).
Terrestrial TV works okay, BBC - channel 4, as do all the other inputs, ie: HDMI1 and , PC etc.
I thought it could be just a signal issue ,however on i cant even select the menu option on DTV without it dropping off the screen after 2 seconds.
The display alternates every few seconds between black and darker black,(like the display has completely turned off)
Just so strange as all other inputs are fine!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Kieron

    Kieron,
Surprised more people not on here with this problem. Have contacted Toshiba - the problem is common. The set requires a factory software update. I telephoned them and despite the set being nearly 3 years old they have arranged collection - they'll supply the box, fix and return at no charge!! The service number is on the Tosh website.

  • Toshiba 46xv640u lcd audio problems

I have been trying to get the audio settings set up but am having problems. I have run an HDMI cable from my PS3 to my Toshiba LCD and am receiving sound but not all channels are coming across. Dialog is missing.
The movie is Dolby Digital audio 5.1 channel AC-3.
I been through and through the manual but cant seem to get the settings right. There are some settings in audio setup that are greyed out and not available to adjust.
In audio setup for example the following choices are available:
    PC audio: yes/no
HDMI audio (if yes for PC audio is selected then the default choice for HDMI audio is digital) ( if no is selected for PC audio then I can select either auto/digital/analog)
MTS is greyed out so I cant adjust
Dolby Digital dynamic range is greyed out
Man this has me pulling my hair out. Anybody ever run into this?
I'm wondering if it's my PS3 settings but this PS3 has worked with other equipment without problems, I just moved it to this TV and I cant get the right sound so I dont know what to do.
    It shouldnt be this difficult

You would think that maybe a Toshiba rep would visit here and answer questions. I cant imagine I'm the only person who has ever had this problem. Chirp chirp chirp

Your model belongs to part-number family PSLB8U, which corresponds to European-models' part-number family PSLB8E.
Go to the European download site and look up the Satellite L300 with Short Part No. PSLB8E.

  • Toshiba A660-1 General Problems

    Hello there,
My name is Diego and I have had some troubles with my computer lately. I recently did a backup of all my information and reinstalled Windows 7 on my Satellite A660-1 since it was running slow. However I have had some problems since then, I will list them here in case anyone can help me with them.
    1) First of all, my top splashboard is not working, I mean the touch sensitive buttons on top of the keyboard where you find the Wifi button, the increase/decrease volume, etc.
    2) Until one day ago, my Wifi was working well, I installed the drivers and it was running smothly, however, now my Wifi connection is not working. The computer tells me to "activate the inalambric connection functionality". Since the sensitive buttons do not work I cannot connect the wifi using them. I press "Fn" + F8 and it does not work as well. The strange thing is it was working until yesterday and I did not change anything, there were only Windows Updates that happened when I was turning it off. (Ethernet connection works very well)
    3) My touchpad moves the cursor but it does not "click".
    4) When I press Alt + Tab it does not change screens, however, when I use "Windows" + Tab it does.
    5) When I open the volum control icon on the bottom right the line that marks where the volume is starts moving up and down like crazy. This is just a detail since volume works well, it just called my attention.
Well, this is it (for now ) I am really interested in at least solving point (2) which is the wifi problem, the others are important but not so much. If anyone has any recommendation I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you in advance.
    Sincerely,
    Diego

Hello there, I fixed it myself, thanks anyways.
In case anyone has similar problems, I read in another thread something that worked for me.
    1) Disconnect Batery and AC Adapter
    2) Maintain Power Button 30 seconds without releasing
    3) Connect everything
    4) Turn on computer
    5) When Toshiba screen comes on, quickly press F2
    6) Then press F9 - Yes and then F10 - Yes
Hopefully it will work for you too.

  • Toshiba Bulletin Board - recover message?

From the Toshiba Bulletin Board I received two messages--one being notification of a BIOS update, 2.0.  I was able to install that update properly.  Knowing there were two messages regarding updates, I went back to retrieve the other one and it now shows I have zero messages.  Any way to recover the old message (which was for another download)?  Thank you.

    Hi Jim,
I see there is a 2.00 BIOS version for my L670-137 model (via my local support site). Do you know if this is the long anticipated permanent fix? Unfortunately, I can't find any release notes that state what was fixed.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Toshiba Gigastore 250 GB: Problems to delete files

    Dear all,
I can't delete files from my Toshiba Gigastore anymore. Every time I try, the following message appears: "Cannot delete. Access denied. Source is probably still open".
However, the files are not in use when I try to delete. I tried to delete after a reboot, and tried as admin. Nothing works.
The problem started to occur after the Gigastore got disconnected from the computer (hot plugout).
My OS is W2K SP4 (with the latest security updates). The GigaStore didn't run properly from the beginning, as it is not possible to disconnet the USB when the system is running (this problem is known and described in the user manual).
Howe can I overcome the problem without reformatting the drive? Maybe it is possible to boot linux and delete files on the GigaStore? Is that advisable, as linux doesn't seem to go along well with NTFS?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Led

    Hello,
many thanks for your advice. The issue is solved now.
Going through your replies, I investigated why the files could not be deleted. I found that something happened with my user rights since the hot plugout: The system just 'took' the 'write' rights from existing files. However, I was able to read and execute existing files, and write _new_ files.
A subsequent login as Admin with re-assignment of 'write' rights worked fine. (However, I am sure that I have tried this earlier, but it did not work at the time).
Again, many thanks for your help. Best regards,
