Hello can somebody please help me? I had this laptop just sitting around so My niece needed one and I thought I would clean it out with the disc to out of box condition. Didn't want any of my stuff left on there. Little did I know I would spend 3 full days trying to get it to work. Long story short. I got it to work with IE 8 hooked her up with yahoo account and facebook account. It still needed minor adjusting so I shipped it from Fl. to NJ and when I took it out of the box and plugged it in...............yep .....no goodski.........Please help....what in the world could it be? I took the battery out and just plugged it in. No Good. It turns on blue light for about 2 or 3 seconds and then shuts right down.
Please, any suggestions will help...I wanted to suprise her for Christmas with it. I will try anything...Please...
Thanking you in advance ....

I'm sorry, Lynner, but it looks like I'm too late for Christmas. If you still need help getting it working, you may want to look at this article.

  • Macbook Pro wont turn on after suddenly shutting down. PLEASE HELP

I was working when both the charger light and computer went off suddenly. I did the same click sound it does when holding the power button to force it to shut off. Since then its dead to the point that when I connect the charger the little orange/green light doesnt turn on nor does the computer nor does the battery meter on the side of the computer. Battery was perfectly good holding charge and it was full.

I did an appointment which I will attend to. But that's for Monday as they were pretty booked. I called the store and asked whether I could just walk in and wait for someone to miss their appointment, the lady said over the phone they would take care of walk ins too, so I took the chance. This is my working tool, without it I was off completely so I needed a solution asap, not for next week. But I soon as I walked in they come up saying they were not taking walk ins. That's what got me upset, their saying yea come over and once there Oh sorry we r not taking walk ins.
Hope I made that clear this time.
So the sim is still there, I wouldn't want to try and get it out, so for that I'll wait till Monday. Meanwhile I need to figure out what caused that to see what I do with the computer or how to avoid that from happening again.

  • I tried many times to turn it on, it turns and the same white screen appears and the update starts again and shuts down. Please Help me!

    Hello!
I have a MacBook Air. I have got a software update notification couple of days ago. I've clicked on it today, and it started installing updates.
But, I have got a notification telling that not all updates were installed successfully, then I have clicked on "Restart" from the notification box. Then my Mac restarted and the white screen with Apple logo and the update progress appeared (like what always happens during updates).
The problem that while the update progress reached around half the way, my Mac shutdown. I tried many times to turn it on, it turns and the same white screen appears and the update starts again and shuts down.
    Please Help me!
    MacBook Air (11-inch Mid 2009)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You did not state whether you installed the update while on battery (not mains) power. You are warned not to apply certain updates without being connected to a charger & mains power.
    Also remove any attached peripherals.
Reboot in Repair mode (command-R at start)  and use Disk Tools-Disk Utility-Disk First AId to repair your disk, and as long as you're there repair permissions. Next quit Disk Tools and reinstall the OS. After completing that successfully reboot, log in and do a combo update.
You must have more than enough (not just enough) empty (free) disk space for the update.

  • Toshiba Qosmio x775 Randomly Turns off and on itself.. PLEASE HELP!

Whenever I turn on my Laptop Toshiba Qosmio x775..it randomly turns off then turns on itself..sometimes for just 20-30mins or sometimes less than or sometimes in can run the for many hours..the problem is not with the Adapter because i try to put the battery and unplug the adapter and still it happens randomly..dunno whats the problem with this..
Mostly i researched..they said it's overheating..they said to check if the fan is full of dust something like that..but none of it works..I downloaded a program CoreTemp to check the Temperature for overheating issues..and it's only on 45-50 degrees..and that program has overheating protection to shutdown if it reaches 90 degrees..but in my case in does not reach that degree and still shuts down..hayy..need help badly..

SO FAR SO GOOD FIX GUIDE-
If you own a Toshiba Qosmio laptop and you are having problems with it powering down for no reason, try this.
    1) Unplug all the wires and remove battery
    2) Hold down power button for 30 seconds
    3) Plug everything back in and start it up
    4) Hold F2 to enter boot menu
    5) Go to the Advance Tab
    6) Set Execute Disable Bit to Not Available
    7) F10 to save and exit
     SO FAR SO GOOD!

  • Second Core shutting down often please help

I love my Macbook Air. It is fast enough for me to use as my primary machine and I use network shares 99% of the time so space is a non-issue. It's a lot more stable since the last OS X patch. Again, let me state, its fast enough for me. Not crying. I have this issue however. When I run VMware using my Ubuntu VM, it runs a cronjob daily that might consume 40% of both cores for 25 minutes or so. During this time, if I use the machine for much else, again, its fast enough, one of the cores in activity monitor shuts down. The machine becomes dog slow and I need to kill the VM, or put the Air to sleep until it cools off.
Same exact thing with World of Warcraft. The performance is fine for what I expect from this machine. 15-20 fps then a core shuts down after 3-4 minutes. Ive limited the FPS in WOW and now the heat doesn't rise and it works. It just seems odd I can't use my CPU cores for anything but the occasional burst.
I'm using SMCfancontrol to max out the fans. Helps a bit.
So, I've seen that this is a common problem with the Air.
    Here is my question.
    1. Will this be fixed with a patch, if so, I'll wait and handle it.
    2. Is my Macbook Air defective? If so, I'll swap it.
    3. Is this just the design limit of the Air. If so, I better hurry up and return it.
    Thanks for any help.

I'm the original poster. Let me clarify. I'm new to Macs. Oh my God, what great tech support they have. Thank you thank you Apple for charging for support so you can still offer good support. I'm used to paying for Smartnet and hate bad free support.
Anyway, I spoke with the first tier support. Had me do some magic NVRAM sorta reset thing. ctrl Option apple whatever stuff. It appears to have helped. I can still get the core to shut down, but it isn't immediate. I need to test to see if it's acceptable. I had to turn World of Warcraft options way up with Ubuntu doing RANCID config diffs in a VM to get it to repeat. They gave me a second tier support guy and I'm going to test more tonight. I'm at work, so I couldn't mess with WOW much. If I'm not confident it is fixed, they are sending me a new one and actually want mine to see the error. Not just a swap at the store. Almost like the company wants to do some sort of root cause analysis.
Besides, loving the form factor, loving OS X so far (I'm an old Solaris fella) and almost crying to the good Lord when I got someone with a brain to help me, I'm going to own a Mac. I just hope it is the Air and this gets resolved.
I don't know if Apple reads this stuff, but thank you. No tech equipment is perfect. But a tech company can try. Boy are they trying.

  • Proxies for Mac OS X have been shut down. Please help!

all my proxies have been shut down in mac osx. im trying to find automatic proxy config and i need a .pac file. where would i get one? i am a newb when it comes to proxies so i need all the help i can get. i want to enable HTTP and HTTPS proxies and any others that i may need. please help.

HelsBels1986, first power the computer down, now wait a few minutes until the machine is complete settled. Now press the startup button and restart while holding down the Option key. This should Open Startup Manager and give you a choice of startup disks, choose the Tiger Disk as your startup drive. Once the disk mount choose English, then go up to the Main Menu to Utilities and scroll down to Disk Utility. Once DU opens choose your start up drive in the upper hand column of the window an run Disk Repair from First Aid in the upper Tabs. Now check the SMART Status of your hard drive at the bottom of the window, it should say Verified. Next select your startup volume in the left column and run Repair Permissions.
If all checks out go back up to the Main Menu/Utilities/Startup Drive and choose your hard drive and choose Restart.

  • I restarted my macbookpro but it doesn't start again. It starts to run and a grey screen appears bus after a few seconds it shuts down. Please help. I can't find anything online

Help me please just a grey screen with the apple logo appears and it looks like its going to start up but doesnt

See if you can boot into safe mode by holding down the shift key immediately after pressing the start button. Keep holding the shift key till a loading progress bar appears on the lower part of the screen. It will take a lot longer than normal to start this way. If you have Lion 10.7 installed you can try holding command-R  keys to get intto recovery mode and run disk utility.

  • [Solved] Pressing AltGr for a few seconds shuts down the computer

    Hi
A couple of months ago I had some water damage on my Thinkpad x220. Cleaned it dried it and everything expect one keyboard key works fine.
The problem is when im pressing the AltGr key for longer than a second it shuts down the computer. It basically acts the same way as my power button. It's even possible to turn on my computer with the AltGr key. I know its caused from the water damage and it would be easier to buy a new keyboard but a couple of days ago I booted up a Ubuntu on a usb stick and the AltGr key worked as expected. So instead of buying a new keyboard I thought maybe its possible to re-map my key somehow so it would work as its supposed to.
I tried to identify the keycode. When I push the key for a short time it gives me:
    [root@arch:erykroom master▲]# showkey --keycodes
    kb mode was ?UNKNOWN?
[ if you are trying this under X, it might not work
since the X server is also reading /dev/console ]
press any key (program terminates 10s after last keypress).
    keycode 100 press
    keycode 100 release
When I try to get the keycode for the longer press it just shuts down.
    Any help would be appriciated
    EDIT:
    Managed to solve the issue.
I had to edit my /etc/systemd/logind.conf and change the power key to ignore
    HandlePowerKey=ignore

  • HP DV6000 series laptop - Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger

    Hi,
I am using a hp dv6000 series laptop for last 2 years....  Accidentally, water fell on my laptop and then my laptop itself fell down from the table.
One the first day when I tried restarting it  there was no response ( No power LED no display nothing, no cpu fan etc ...)
I disassembled the laptop, cleaned the RAM hard disk, front bezel, keyboard. I used a hair dryer to dry out any of the moisture. My laptop then started showing some response ... now after 4 days .... it is working all fine except the display...
    The problem is :
    1. The Laptop backlight is not working... (but I can see the display with a external flashlight pointed to screen)
    2. The laptop works fine on battery... but as soon as I connect the power charger... it immediatly shuts down.
Currently because of display problem... I am using the (RDP) windows remote desktop connection from an another laptop to access the desktop.... I logged on from another laptop and checked that all the internal harware parts are working fine.
Also, sometimes suddenly randomly the display backlight starts working fine and goes off randomly.
Please suggest. I seached all the online help but I have found no help on "Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger"...
    thanks.

It sounds like the LCD power inverter has been damaged and would need to be replaced.  As far as the AC adapter/battery issue, I'm not sure.  It sounds like you need to retire this notebook early.

I know of no way to remove encryption on iTunes backups if you've forgotton the password.  If you've used the 4 digit PIN code to lock your iPhone in the past that can sometimes default as your "password" for this encryption in iTunes.  Try that PIN or any PIN you've used in the past.  If you don't use a lock maybe you played around with that feature once when you first got your phone....try "1,2,3,4" or anything you could have possibly tried.
As far as accessing older unencrypted backups you can try this software.  I do not have any experience using it but it seems like it's what you need and is probably the easiest route for both voicemail and texts:
    http://deciphertools.com/products.html
If you want to try to find voicemails using Terminal, I found this link as well:
    http://mikereys.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/iphone-backup-restoring-visual-voice-ma il/
I know with AT&T, voicemails are only stored on their servers for 30 days so any voicemail older than that you would not have been able to access again.
    Best of luck.
