Toshiba C650D Help

Update:
A problem I use to have:
My laptop has been weird. The first thing was I was restoring it to out of box condition. About 15 minutes later I got an error. I Tried 5 times but still got errors. So I called my uncle and he said that it was the sectors and told me to select clean hard drive and fix sector. So I did and went to bed.
Next day I checked it and I got an error. I was mad. But decided to go out of box condition again. And it worked.
6 months later:
So then the problem came. It was working fine. And we had to go somewhere for 5 minutes so I close the lid. When I cane back I lifted the lid up and pressed the button it wouldn't go. I turned it on and of for 5 minutes and got it working. Then closed it again and same problem but for 15 minutes and then closed it again and nothing. Would not go.
About 3 month later I turned it on with charger left it for 6 hours. Turned off. Took plug out and turn it on. It worked. But I haft to keep doing that. After 6 times doing that then wouldn't work. Then same problem.
My USB s work cause I can plug a mouse in and it will light up. My cd rooms fine. I can hear the fan going but only if I put my ear up to it. Also when I start up the caps lock light flickers and the laptop vibrates for 1 second.
Please help
I've tried switching the ram around. I tried plugging in the moniter.
I've tried the hard reset how you take charger and battery out and hold for 1 minute. I've tried getting the reform screen going.
I've tried the boot disks.
But what's wired is that the fan takes like 1 minute to go on after I turn it on, and when I turn it on the caps lock flickers and 5 seconds you hear this noise for 1 second near the hard drive and computer vibrates.
I also got it going again for 6 t

It sounds like your system needs to be sent in for factory service.

  • Toshiba 39L4333DG: help setting WiFi password - cannot find the char ^

    My WiFi 61 chars password contains the char ^ and I can't find it in the onscreen keyboard!
    I tried substituting it with an "upperscore" I never saw elsewhere (thinking it was just a bad font rendering), but it didn't work and a message said I have to input 64 ascii char or I can use the Hex form.
    Does anybody know how to input the ^ char o use the hex format?
    Thanks!!

    Hello MasterG, thanks for your help, but that's not what I needed.
    The problem is my ASCII password is 61 characters long: if I try setting it in HEX form, I need 122 chars, but the onsceen keyboard stops me at char 64...
    So I need a way to input ^ in ASCII form or make the keyboard accept 122 HEC chars.

  • Im tring to authorize my toshiba PLEASE help!!!

    It's a toshiba with windows 8 and the support thing said to go to the store menu, but i dont seem to have it.

    There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
    The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
    If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
    Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
    Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

    What I want is someone advise me on the east or purchase I need help to complete the purchase.
    Personal toshiba to help me to complete this purchase. .

    I have some queries about the product.

    Hi
    First of all you should know that this is a user to user forum. So you will not find any people from Toshiba here.
    Secondly I have checked the page which you have posted in the posting and find this phone number. Call 800-316-0920 for shopping assistance.
    Otherwise I recommend searching for some online dealers who provide the notebook which you want to buy.
    Good luck

  • First Arch install - networking locks up the computer...help!

    Hi everyone,
    I've been wanting to try Arch for a while now and the latest versions of Ubuntu have severely annoyed me with their Windows like behaviour and wizards so I decided to give it a try.
    I've done my best to figure this out but am still stuck. I have Arch 3.0 x86_64 in a Toshiba C650D.
    So far I've found that linux doesn't like the ACPI in my laptop so I added the following to the end of my kernel line in grub:
    hpet=disable lapic nolapic_timer nopat
    as per this post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=92801 which did seem to make things more stable.
    I then read in the Beginners guide that there's a bug with pacman's default transfer method and uncomment and modified the line for wget passive ftp in the /etc/pacman.conf to match the Pacman Performance guide. I was able to install xorg and resolve dependencies with that. But I still can't switch to aria2 or install Gnome because they have unresolved dependencies because it still freezes at random points in the sync or update process.
    Sometimes it will freeze in FTP authentication (PWD usually) or mid download. The most common stop it freezes is requesting or figuring out the size (?) of the core.db file.
    I'm really not sure what to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I'd really like to try Arch out.
    Thanks.

    Hi masteryod (nice name!)
    Agreed which is what I did. Full story is I downloaded the disk Monday, installed Wednesday. The text installer was amazing in my opinion, I wish other distro's have me that control. Anyways I went through and answered the install questions, set my partitions, selected packages i wanted, unchecked ones i didn't and left packages I didn't know alone. Only configuration change was to rc.conf where i set the hostname and set device eth0 so DHCP would work.
    I rebooted and got a CLI prompt in super fast time, it was great! I logged in, created my user, and set grub to only wait 1 second before selecting default. I then opened the beginners guide and skimmed through to the section "Update, Sync, and Upgrade the system with pacman".
    I haven't got ssh or nfs working on Arch yet and dont have usb so I'm only typing the none commented lines, it's stock though.
    I followed the instructions and uncommented mirrors in my /etc/pacman.d/mirrorslist. I originally had all canadian mirrors, http and ftp, uncommented but it locked up instantly on the pacman -Syy command which lead to me researching my laptop and finding the ACPI issue on Debian forums and the patch seems to have helped here as well. I could then run pacman -Syy but it would lockup retrieving files. so I following the beginners guide note about the issue and setup wget since that's the only one i could/can use yet. Which has again helped, I've managed to ctrl+c past the core.db file and download the others and install xorg as noted above.
    The mirrorlist currently looks like this:
    Server = ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
    Server = ftp://less.cogeco.net/pub/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
    Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/$repo/os/$arch
    pacman.conf like this:
    [options]
    HoldPkg = pacman glibc
    SyncFirst = pacman
    XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget -c --passive-ftp -c %u
    Architecture = auto
    [core]
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    [extra]
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    [community]
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    [multitab]
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    After trying a few more times the spot it freezes is here:
    #pacman -Syy
    ::Synchronizing package database...
    --2011-11-27 09:38:54-- ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/core/os/x86_64/core.db

    ==> TYPE I ... done. ==> CWD (1) /archlinux/core/os/x86_64 ... done.
    ==> SIZE core.db ... _
    It will also freeze on "SYST" or "PWD". And it's not the mirror since it happens with the Cogeco, kernel.org and archlinux.org mirrors as well.
    Thanks for any help you can give.

  • LAN upload speed is very slow on Satellite C650D-108

    Hey guys,
    I have a problem with my Toshiba C650D-108 Notebook.
    First, my english is a little bad... sorry for this.
    My Upload-Speed via Ethernet is very very slowly (20 kb/s) , but via WLAN i have 14MB per Second! The driver and windows are new and reinstalled. The Ethernet-Cable etc. are fine. The Download-Speed via Ethernet AND WLAN is perfect (16 MB per Second)
    But why? Please help me!
    Thanks in advance!
    Greets

    Hello
    How do you check the upload speed where do you upload something? Have you tested different browsers and different webspaces where you can upload files?
    Usually the upload speed is depending on your Internet connection and not type of connection (WLAN/LAN).
    Anyway, maybe updating the LAN driver would help. Just check the Toshiba website and reinstall LAN driver.

  • Qosmio X775-q7387 shutting down by itself! I need a permanent fix, please help!

    After hours of searching through the internet, this is the conclusion I came to as to why my x775 occasionally shuts down. It ran PERFECTLY up until this and i've had it about 2 years.
    According to others, there is a power membrane defect with this laptop that refuses to be acknowledged by Toshiba which is heart breaking because I saved up a long time to afford this 1200 dollar machine. Loved everything about it until this....
    The power button is so sensitive according to other users, that any presense, like even air will cause the button to think it's being pushed down so it shuts down as a response.
    I did try this step. Take battery out and wires. Hold power button for 30 seconds. Then put battery back and wires and start up as normal. This hasn't given me a problem yet, but granted I only did this late last night.
    I would hate to have Toshiba viewed in a bad light over this problem or to get rid of this machine.
    But i highly doubt the above "fix" is permanent.
    Is it a permanent fix? What does draining the battery even have to do with the power button issue?
    Replacing the power membrane would seem to be useless if it's a defect with all models of this laptop.
    I just can't believe it ran so perfectly until this. I bragged to everyone about this computer.
    Now, i'm sitting here freaking out wonder how I can permanently fix this.
    Please dont let me and other Qosmio users suffer Toshiba. Help us!

    Can I do this "fix" myself, or at least buy the part somewhere so that someone else who is good with computers can do it for me?
    This is the solution other people with this problem had.
    Computer repair sent one user this message "Tested without touch panel, hdd, ram, keyboard light. Ordered new motherboard, however discovered that the computer started fine without touchpanel, seems like on/off switch is oversensitive.
    Power membrane switch is replaced, and everything is checked and OK."
    So- power membrane was to blame, and I guess this is just the "underneath" section of the panel of the external power, volume buttons at the top of my key board right?
    "Yes my issue was resolved. They replaced the power button strip above the keyboard which has eliminated the random shutdowns. Funny thing is that they had it less than 24 hours and seems like the "failure analysis engineer" immediately knew what the problem was. I feel sorry for the uneducated who fork over money for unneeded repairs."
    So, since Toshiba seems to try to make you pay 400 dollars to replace a motherboard etc. which won't fix the true problem, is there a site where I can buy the power membrane for my laptop, then take the computer and a part to a repair shop and they will do it?

  • Toshiba VAP - Button Support - command line options configuration

    Hi,
    I need to configure Button Support Drivers for Portege Series Laptops as part of deploying Windows 7 x 64 bit Enterprise on the following models: Z830, Z930 and R930.
    I need to install Toshiba Value Added Package with only Flash Card option.
    What command line options are present to do this?
    I am looking to deploy this via SCCM.
    Thanks,

    That is a way to approach setup.exe in general, but the great Toshiba VAP doesn't provide you with such options that you can call out.
    I have tried several methods, but there seems to be no way to install Button Support / Flash Cards alone. I can not believe no one has installed TVAP in an enterprise?
    In an enterprise environment, you wouldn't necessarily give users access to encryption and password utilities, specific to laptop models. However, you need the app so the button support at least works, instead of providing the customer with a Laptop having non functional buttons!!
    Is there any thread that points to or can Toshiba support help enterprise customers to deploy TVAP?
    I have less hope, with the experience I have had with this app.

  • Toshiba Support Options.

    My first suggestion is that if you buy a new Toshiba laptop make sure it has a "NEVER BREAKS DOWN" guarantee.
    If you can't find one that has a "WILL NEVER BREAK DOWN" guarantee then don't buy a Toshiba. The customer service when having to send it in for repairs is the worst I have ever received on any electronic equipotent I have ever owned.
    You receive no guarantee that your product will be fixed when you send it in the first, second or even third time.
    You receive no guarantee on how long it will take then to fix it and they are in no hurry to get it back to you.
    There is no written guarantee that you will ever get to read on how much CRAP you will have to deal with before you will even get your faulty equipotent replaced.
    When you call customer service and talk to a supervisor you will be told flat out that there is nothing you can do or say that will change anything and that is the way it is.
    If it never breaks its a great product. If it breaks down just turn it in to a paperweight with a cord. That's if you ever get it back from the repair depot.

    That is a way to approach setup.exe in general, but the great Toshiba VAP doesn't provide you with such options that you can call out.

  • Satellite L505D-LS5006 Toshiba Laptop will not start up

    I own a Satellite L505D-LS5006 laptop from Toshiba. A few days ago, I attempted to start the computer up, but when I pushed the power button, it would look and sound like it is turning on, but wouldn't. The cooling fan runs and the disk I have in the drive spins but nothing appears on the monitor and the computer's amber colored light signaling something is loading does not light or blink. The wireless networking light also blinks and then stays off. When I called Toshiba's help line, the guy told me to remove the battery and press the power button for 10 seconds, replace the battery, and try it again. When that didn't work, he said to try it again but with only having the AC adapter plugged in, after that, both the battery and the AC adapter plugged in. None of that worked. I'm sure nothings wrong with the hard drive since I was working on it offline the very night before when I placed it on hibernation mode and then placed the computer back in it's bag. I also know I need to replace  the battery in it as the computer PC Health Monitor told me I have a "Poor" battery. Please help me with this situation, there are important things I have on this computer that I need.

    I'm not a tech support agent, but it sure seems to me that it's time to arrange a repair. If you want to recover data first, you could try removing your hard drive and connecting it another PC before repairing the laptop.

    Hello Malith Ratnayake,
    After changing the old RAM by the new one, this issue occurs?
    If the issue doesn’t occur when you change back to use old ram, I think it is the RAM hardware issue.
    Please contact the hardware manufacturer for better support.

  • Question about "Refund Reliability Guarantee"

    Hi
    I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 been send to www.ebuyer.com for repair and they found my laptop '' unrepairable ''. So they refund for me. The problem is as I recall when I brought this laptop it come with '' Toshiba Refund and Reliability Guarantee !!
    I ring them and the funny thing is they told me nothing to do with this kind of warranty!!! Suppose they need to send it to Toshiba and repair and send it back to me, if Toshiba cannot repair Toshiba have to replace another laptop for me as well as refund right!!!
    I still can find some of the Toshiba range comes with this '' Refund Reliability Guarantee '' on their website. Did anyone encounter this problem? The '' Refund Reliability Guarantee '' not being cover unless u brought the laptop direct from Toshiba?
    I need someone in Toshiba can help me solve this problem or anyone who still remember Toshiba did offer this type of warranty. Thanks.

    Hi mate,
    are you absolutely sure that this applies to your machine? I googled for that type of warranty and just found this link:
    http://www.rewardpromotions.com/UK/tscs.asp?Country=UK
    which explains the warranty youve mentioned, but it applies to totally different models. Did you register your machine for that service and do you have eventually some document or proove which shows that this type of warranty applies to your machine?
    Would be nice, maybe someone from toshiba reads this but I dont think so since this a user-to-user forum and I never saw that someone from toshi gave some replies here or information. Would be better if you contact an authorized service partner and ask them for that warranty or at least for some information about that case.

  • Win 8.1 activation issues on Satellite Pro C850-1EQ after upgrade

    Hello everybody!
    I face a problem after upgrading my TOSHIBA SATELLITE PRO C850-1EQ preinstalled windows version 8 to 8.1.
    After installation windows demands the product key in order to activate windows 8.1, but I haven't this activation key.
    I called Microsoft (Greece) but couldn't help me and told me to call Toshiba (Greece).
    The man from Toshiba's technical support told me to call back to Microsoft!
    Also, he told me to check here (https://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/) before I start the process. Step No. 7 says "Remember your Windows password. You may need to enter it after updating."
    Now I returned back to Win 8.
    Is there a way to learn my activation key before the installation of w8.1?
    I tried to find that using various tools but no one finded the key.
    Plus, after the installation of 8.1, a message says:
    +Error code: 0xC004C003+
    +The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked+
    I trust Toshiba and I want to use the latest version of w8.1.
    I would be greatful if someone technician from Toshiba could help me with this issue.
    John (from Greece)

    Hi
    Yes, the preinstalled *gets automatically activated* when I restore or refresh my pc and I do not need the activation key.
    When I upgrade to windows 8.1 it asks me the activation key in order to activate the new version.
    Before the upgrade, yes, I updated win 8 and the drivers too. I always keep my pc updated.
    What do you mean:
    +Try this: create the Toshiba Recovery DVDs (or USB flash memory stick). Use the Recovery medium in order to recover the notebook back to factory settings. Update the Windows 8 to latest state and then perform the upgrade to Win 8.1+
    Windows 8 is in a hidden particion in my PC, so I don't need to create recovery disk.
    Or do you mean anything alse?
    Thank you for your reply

    Yesterday at Saturn Salzburg bought the notebook.
    It has on the bottom a PRO Windows 8 label.
    Unfortunately, I first initiated the update to 8.1 and then only a backup created on a USB stick.
    Windows has muddled up the the Pro version after Win 8.1 update.
    Can not join domain, as I expect from a PRO version actually.
    How do I get the original Pro version again?
    The label does so, that there must have been a Pro license.
    How do I get the licenses number?

    Hi
    Regarding to the Toshiba Satellite P845T-107 specification page, the notebook was preinstalled with Windows 8 64bit.
    [Toshiba Satellite P845T-107 specification page|http://www.toshiba.de/discontinued-products/satellite-p845t-107/]
    It was not Pro version.
    You can also check all the details about this notebook on the Toshiba Unit Details

    I will need to put the serial number to get the information.
