Toshiba Canvio Desk 4tb not recognizesed on TV

Hi,
I replaced my D3 Station 3TB (i broke it...) with Toshiba Canvio Desk 4tb, and i got a question; why is not working on my tv(Samsung LE40C530)?
My tv recognizes HDD-s only up to 2 tb, so i split the disc on two partitions(i did the same with db station and it worked perfectly...) but still it doesn't work, tv won't even change to media player when drive is plugged in, nothing...
I tried everything, changing between GPT-MRB, different partition size, different cables...but nothing seems to work.
So, am i missing something here or is my brand new Toshiba Canvio Desk 4tb just incompatible with my tv...i hope the first but...
Please help!

Thank you for answering,
I know, Samsung D3 Station was also an USB 3.0 HDD...and Toshiba Canvio Desk manual says that is USB 2.0 compatible.
I guess just isn't compatible with my TV...:-(

  • Windows 8 and Canvio Desk 3TB: System will not boot when external hdd is connected

    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-e-g/HP-PAVILION-A6109N-amp-windows-8-System-w...
    Hi,
just recently upgraded to Win Pro on my HP PAVILION A6109N.  I also bought a toshiba canvio desk 3TB.  What I notice is that if I reboot my pc with the extermnal HDD connected, my system will not boot.
I have check my BIOS boot settings and the order of the boot.
I have tried disabling USB Legacy Support in the BIOS
I have reformatted the external HDD
but still my desktop will not boot if the external HDD is connected....If I disconnect the external HDD...the system will boot up ....
I am at a loss....*** scratching my head ***

Update:  The only solution for me was to format the drive as ext3 and plug it into one of my Asus RT-N66U USB ports, as most routers don’t yet recognize 3TB drives as NTFS.  It’s not much help to people who don’t have a router with this capability, and it also slows transfer rates to ~12MB/s.
Given the short length of the cable, your only other options are to have the 3TB Canvio sitting right next to you so you can unplug from a front USB port before each boot, or place it towards the rear of your desk and crawl under the desk to disconnect it from your PC prior to each boot.
It's a pity because Toshiba produce great internal HDD's, but my experience when it comes to external drives is they're simply junk.  I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing.

  • Toshiba Canvio Restore Issue

    Hi,
I did a quick search on the forum to see if there was an already existing article and did not find any. My apology if there is already one, feel to relocate the discussion.
Recently, I bought an external hard drive in order to do a complete back-up of my computer and make a complete system restore. Doing the back-up was fine, it took around 30-40 minutes to transfer 180 GB of data using a USB 3.0 Port. Doing the restore was sadly another story.
I tried to do as it was stated in NTI Backup Now EZ for a full system restore. Unfortunately, while booting with hard drive, I get the following message: Missing Operating System. Trying to boot while having the hard drive being last in the booting priority list simply started Win 7 normally.
Something else I noticed too, while this hard drive is USB 3.0, when it is plugged in any of my USB 3.0 ports, the BIOS does not recognize the device as being connected on certain occasion, while in a USB 2.0 port it is always recognized.
I did an attempt on reading the .BNF files with the File and Folder restoration tab but was unable to see the files from both easy and advanced mode.
As one can see, I did many attempts but from now on I need some help because I am starting to run off possibilities to be honest.
    Specifications:
    O.S.: Win 7 64-bit Home Premium
Hard Drive Specs : Toshiba Canvio DESK External hard drive 2 TB USB 3.0

If I understand you correctly, you are attempting to boot from the external drive that contains your backup image.
I don't know anything about this program, but I feel certain that you are expected to boot from a special optical disc (CD or DVD) that you have burned.
Please read your User Manual for instructions.
Booting from my external drive is exactly what I tried. I did read the "Help section" concerning the restore procedure. As you will be able to see in the first image I linked, it is writen to refer to the software instructions. I linked then, with the next three pictures, what it looks like in the software and how to reach the "Complete System Backup" instructions. I did all this procedure and the only message my notebook shows me is "Missing Operating System".
What is your take on this ?

  • Using canvio desk on 2 computers?

I just purchased the Toshiba Canvio 3 TB Desk drive and am wondering if this can be used on more than one computer? I successfully backed up a computer with Win7 and now want to do the same with my WinVista computer, but am concerned about files being overwritten by the Drive's Setup file.

    Dave

you can do the following. copy the itunes library folder and the itunes preference file
homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist from one computer to the corresponding locations on the other one. this will give you the same copy of itunes there (including playlists) that you had before.
to keep them synced afterwards is trickier.
check out this [mac os x hint|http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070225092702347&query=sync% 2Bitunes].
Read all the comments, they mention some 3rd party software like this one
    http://www.supersync.com/
P.S. you can also enable sharing in itunes on both computers if they are on the same network.

  • One Computer No Longer Recgonizes My Toshiba Canvio Portable 500 GB Hard Drive

Hello. I have a Toshiba Canvio Portable 500 GB Hard Drive. I used it to back up my files on my main computer and connected it to that computer every now and again to download more files. Suddenly, it stopped being recognized by my main computer a while back. Or more accurately, my main computer recognizes it but says that it needs to be formated before it can be used. I have not idea what happened to it. Oddly, the hard drive is recognized by all of my other computers (a MAC, a Chromebook and a standard PC Laptop) and I can access the files on there using those computers.  I have never used any of the other computers to download files. Is there a way to figure out how to get my main computer to recognize the hard drive again without reformatting it? I'd like to add more files from that computer to it. Thanks for the help. (I recently reinstalled windows and the drives for the hard drive on my main computer and still no luck.)

If you can get the 2008 started move large libraries such as  your iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes libraries to an External HD. Once you have verified the libraries have been successfully moved then Trash the ones on the internal HD and empty the Trash. Once these operations have been done then use:
iPhoto: How to move the Library to an EHD
iMovie: How to move the Library to an EHD
iTunes: How to move the library to an EHD

  • How do I recover files from a Toshiba Canvio Hard Drive?

I have been backing up my computer with a Toshiba Canvio Hard Drive. My hard drive failed and I had to buy a new computer. I would like to save my data to the new computer, but I don't want to do a complete system backup because it would overwrite my new computer's operating system (or would it?). I would like to save individual files to my new computer. Is it possible to do this?

No way. Doing that would never overwrite you OS at anyhow. You can able to restore files from the backup copy, though you will not be able to restore file one by one.
    Alternate way
Try professional recovery software if the above methods didn't help you. Download it from here,

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots.  Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.
See Pondini's page for more explanation:   What are Local Snapshots?   http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library.  Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

Thanks for your help and advice

Every HDD is a “wear part”.
What does this mean? Well, sooner or later every HDD will die… and in most cases such issues appear suddenly and are surprising.
Such HDD is an simple plug’n play device…this means that you have to connect it to USB port and it should work…
If its not the case, the device could malfunctions and usually this isn’t fixable.

  • Using toshiba canvio hard drive without using time machine

Has anyone used the Toshiba Canvio external hard drive to save files to without using time machine?  I want to move files off of my computer onto the external drive not just duplicate all the files on my computer as a backup.

I guess the external drive is hanging off the Mac..
Getting access to the drive from PC should be possible.. you may need to move public directory onto the external drive and then set up permissions to do it.. I have not done it and simply would not do it.
External hdd are cheap enough buy one for the pc.. That is then formatted NTFS which windows is going to natively read.. this will be much easier if the backups are ever required than to use HFS+ formatted disk hanging off the Mac.
You can also get your dead TC fixed.

  • My Toshiba Canvio 3.0 won't mount on Lion (2nd Generation Air)

I tried mounting the external hardrive on another mac that runs on snow leopard and it mounts. However when i plug it into my macbook air after i upgraded to lion. It wont' mount anymore, it did before.
    This messages pops up
PLEASE HELP. I beg all the geniuses on this community.
    Thanks

I see this posting is pretty old but here's my experience, for what is worth.
I bought today a Toshiba Canvio 3.0 1Tb and I have both PC and Mac at home.
For 90 $ at Radio Shack I thought it is a good deal although it did not say on the box very much.
It was formatted NTFS and had some software on it as well as a manual.
I tried to mount it first on my Mac OS 10.7.4.
Without any drivers and with it's own cable it worked at first attempt.
I could copy some music to it and it just worked fine, I could play it.
Then I read the instructions and it says you must install the Tuxera NTFS driver supplied on Canvio to work read/write otherwise will be read-only.
Once I did that I attempted to copy and it shown some activity. Then I decided to reboot as indicated by Tuxera software and after that it only mounted in read-only mode. I tried to deactivate Tuxera, uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reinstall, reboot again, nothing helped. The Toshiba web site did not help at all.
Eventually I thought to try reformatting it and use it with HFS+. I copied all original content somewhere on my Mac for backup then started Disk Utility and opening the Canvio I noticed it offers a format option as Win NT NTFS Tuxera, which I thought to try and that worked indeed. Then I copied the original content back on the newly formatted partition. I can use it perfectly fine on my Windows 7 as well as Mac. It works pretty fast.

  • Toshiba Canvio 1.5TB Portable Hard Drive Blue Light just keeps blinking

I have a Toshiba Canvio HDTC615XK3B1 1.5TB Portable Hard Drive and its been working fine so far. This morning I tried to access some files and when I plugged it in, the harddrive made the usual virbation but the blue light goes from solid to rapidly blinking. My computer (macbook) doesnt recognize it either. Ive tried it on multiple computers too. Please help!!!

Unfortunately, the drive might might be failing unfortunately, especially considering it's not working on multiple computers. You could try to reformat it, but that would cause you to lose your data. Alternatively, you could make a warranty claim.

  • Toshiba Canvio Desktop Drive

After installing my Toshiba Canvio 1tb external hard drive Windows won't boot up. If Iunplug the hard drive it's ok. Can anyone help me fix this issue

If autoruns is not yet permanently disabled in your registry, most likely the backup installer is trying to run 'cause those drives don't come empty. Instead stuff is there. 200meg of it ...Your solution is to press SHIFT as you plug in the drive to stop autorun junk from running. Then, if Windows boots, format the drive to get rid of the stuff you don't need.... If you do plan to use it, and it is visible, you can run the setup file. --------------------- This post really doesn't belong in the Thrive forum but someplace else.

  • Rename Toshiba Canvio 2TB

I am using a Toshiba Canvio 2TB external HDD on my router (Fritz!Box 7490) as a NAS disk.
Unfortunately the disk always shows up as "TOSHIBA-ExternalUSB3-0-01" in navigation trees.
Up to now I did not find a way to rename the device to e.g. "Media".
Could anybody please tell me how to accomplish this.
Simple rename in Windows Explorer does not work. Must have something to do with a HDD name provided / delivered by Toshiba.
    Thanks for your support.

    Hi
The option rename which is available and provided by Windows explorer does not rename the external HDD but the storage name will be changed only within the Windows explorer.
To be honest Im not quite sure if you could change the HDD name which appears in the fritz box menu.
However, maybe you could try to use the clean or clean all command on a selected disk to delete all of it's MBR or GPT partitions, volumes, and any hidden sector information on MBR disk.

  • Vista & Outlook 2007 with Tungsten E2 - Hotsync only syncs to Palm Desk top not Outlook

I have a Tungsten E2 for a few years and sync it with no problem on my home computer with Windows and the Palm Desk top.
I just started a new job where we have Visa & Outlook 2007 and would like to keep both systems in sync with my Palm.  I downloaded and installed the new version of  Palm Desktop 6.2 and the Outlook 2007 Update at work.  The downloads went fine.  I selected Outlook as my tool of choice.  When I did the sync - everything was updated on the Palm Desk top not in Outlook.  I tried to remove & reinstall the software but it refuses to recognize Outlook as being my desktop software.  I get no errors.  Any suggestions?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

The 6.2 version has the Outlook 2007 conduits included, you do not need to install the patch for Outlook 2007.
If the data is sync'ing with Palm Desktop but not Outlook you will need to change the conduits to sync with Outlook.
Go to start-programs-palm and look for PIM conduit switcher and change to Outlook.
