Toshiba 'Critical" Update WinPhlash64 freezes computer dead

wtf... I have a Satellite T135D and noticed a critical update needed to be applied in the Toshiba Service Station icon.  It updated and then installed and ran WinPhlash64.  It started flashing the BIOS and then froze halfway thru.  I know how critical of an update this is so I took a video proving the computer was unresponsive fearing the worst... I leave it on for 45 mins and call Toshiba tech support.  I tell hiim the computer is not off and it is in the same state as it was when it froze.  He told me to shut off the computer so I tried the power button.. no go he tells me to unplug the power and take out the battery to shut it off.  I told him i didnt wanna do this because it was flashing the BIOS and i know how critical of an operation it is.  He told me to proceed so i did so knowing i have the video, the convo is being recorded, and the computer is still under warranty.  So u know what happens next obviously.. my fxxxin computer wont turn on now.  And all he can say is sorry that was a critical update now u need to pay $15 and drop it off at UPS... wtf?? i knew what was happening the whole time i shouldnt have to pay for this.  I dunno what to do... isnt it bs tho?!!

hi,
please tell me how did you fix this.thanks

    security update KB3025390 freezes computer
I thought my computer was permanently broken after a routine update. It took over 30 minutes to turn on, getting stuck before and after the sign on screen, could not open any programs or the internet or help, task manager did not work, the internet
did not work. I finally managed to open up installed programs and get it to show me updates. The only update done was windows security update KB3025390. I removed this update, and my computer started working again, as if nothing had happened. My problem
is now whenever my computer is idle, it automatically downloads this update again, and turns into a brick for an hour and a half while I wait patiently for it to allow me to get into the correct screen to get rid of this update. I takes 5-10 minutes after
making a selection for it to open.
I need to either fix it so this update stops freezing my computer or stop my computer from uploading this update.

    Hi LizO_774,
This update is for security reason of Internet Explorer 11, so if you have installed Internet Explorer 11, it is not recommended to uninstall it.
In this current situation, I suggest you run this tool first and install the update again:

  • Freezing up after latest 10.5 update when restarting computer or waking fro

Freezing up after latest 10.5 update when restarting computer or waking from sleep. Is anyone else seeing this?

I am having the same problem with the screen not waking up after it goes to sleep. Once I was able to recover with pressing the power button just long enough to wake it but not restart. The other two times I had to power down and restart -- I also got the jagged screen graphics once.
I have been experiencing this since I installed the 10.5.3 update. It seems to be ok if I put the computer to sleep using 'Sleep' on the Apple menu, but if my screen saver comes on and it goes to sleep on its own, then I have problems waking it.
Frustrating - I don't like to power down and restart my iMac if I can avoid it.

  • 3rd gen 20GB iPod not being detected / freezing computer

One day I plugged in my iPod before I left for work so it would charge, and when I came back it was still stuck on the do not disconnect screen. This was before I knew you could reset the iPod with the select/menu buttons, so I just left it for a bit. Then I went on here to figure out how to reset it, did it, then there was the corrupted file error.
Ever since then, whenever I plug the iPod into the computer, it basically freezes anything that the iPod is related to and stays at the do not disconnect screen. If I have My Computer open, it locks up, and after maybe 20 minutes, "Removable Disk" shows up, and when I right click it, it locks up for a long time again. If I restart with the iPod still plugged in, it freezes at the empty desktop without the start bar even loaded until I unplug it.
I have tried 4 of the 5 R's MANY MANY times. I've been trying to restore many times too, but when I load the updater, it freezes as well, and eventually says could not mount iPod. I have tried uninstalling the drivers for the device, only to have it re install them and have the exact same problem. I have tried loading the iPod on my sisters computer but it froze as well. I have tried different USB ports, and different cables. I have no idea what to do. I don't care if I lose everything, if that's what it takes just to be able to use it again (I have all the songs on my computer), but like I said, I can't even restore it.
Oh, I also tried configuring it as if it was the first time using the iPod, and it froze as well.
      Windows XP

I forgot to add that it heats up when it's frozen, connected to the computer.
And also, when I try to play music, it plays a random amount of the song. Just randomly in the middle of the song, or even 10 seconds in, it freezes for like 30 seconds then goes to the next song. I haven't found one working song yet. And yes, it is random, I have heard like 2 minutes of a song thats only worked for 10 seconds previously, so obviously the data is still obtainable, I don't know why it isn't working.

  • TouchSmart 520 Windows 7 Home premium Problems after critical updates

After my TouchSmart 520 auto ran critical updates on 13 Feb 2013,I cannot connect to Internet at all.It was still able to connect to my home wireless network.
I did a systerm recovery, to restore up to just before the critical updates on 13 Feb, then it's able to connect to internet. After that, it auto ran critical updates 2 times, and the same problem started.I have done the system recovery again and  now turn off the downloading and installation of critical updates completely, but this should not be long term solution.
Has anyone encounter same problem or is able to help me on this? What else do I need to do?
    Appreicate any help.TIA!

    Hello sgcosimo,
You’re not able to connect to the internet after updates have run. I’ve had that happen before and usually Microsoft will send out an update that fixes the problem a few days later.
You can try to run the updates again to see if you still get the error.
If you’re still not able to get online, go into device manger and uninstall the Wi-Fi adapter and restart the computer.
Here is a link to uninstall the adapter.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Windows 8 critical update crashed lost browser and all history and tabs how do i get old browser

Install Windows 8 Critical update; computer crashed and lost everything; Microsoft OS will not let me back into programs, keeps blocking me and gives me a temp password so I can still use PC. Had to reinstall FIREFOX, can't recover old browser and my very important tab. I can't get to backup file and Microsoft is unable to fix the problem, so I am starting from scratch. Tried to use Profile information but it contains only my current profile.
    Hope you can help.

If you do not have the original profile folder and its contents, or some backup of that; there is not anything we can do to help.
*Do you have any forms of backup at all ?
*Did you sync with another device ?
I am assuming the original hard drive has been reformatted, or is totally unusable.

  • HP Pavilion Elite e9220f crashing repeatedly after critical update

    HP Pavilion Elite e9220f, Windows 7 64-bit.
Crashed on 5/9/13, wouldn't reboot. Freezed with blinking cursor in upper left corner of blank screen after HP splash screen.
Changed HD from RAID to IDE mode in BIOS and Windows started but crashed with blue screen on trying to install the IDE controller driver automatically after start-up. Blue screen crash codes indicated the hard drive controller was the source.
System Restore lists several critical updates for Windows over the last few weeks. I ran System Restore in safe mode to 5/4/13 restore point, then rebooted to safe mode for confirmation of restore, and it then booted normally and successfully installed the IDE controller driver, but then crashed again as soon as subsequent critical updates were reinstalled. Disabling Windows Update via services.msc then restoring to 5/4/13 again finally stabilized the system, able to use normally without crashing.
To try to solve the underlying problem preventing further critical updates and allow me to turn on Windows Update again, I found the firmware update on HP's site for the hard drive, WDC WD10EADS-65M2B0, from version B0 to BX. However, after updating the firmware to BX, Windows now crashes upon starting even still at restore point 5/4/13 or even all the way back to 4/28/13, and now before it can even attempt to install the IDE controller. In otherwords, updating the firmware made it worse. The system is again unsable.
    Anyone else having this problem?
    JoEbYX

I agree that it is inexplicable, if that was indeed the case.
If the PC has a single drive, then it makes zero sense to use RAID mode. RAID is an acronym which stands for redundant array of inexpensive disks. The use of any form of RAID (0-5) requires a minimum of two physical hard disks.
AHCI and IDE are the only viable options with a single hard disk.
Did you make a backup or image of the hard disk?
    What is the installed OS?
You will need to  enable the SATA msAHCI driver in the operating system as this Microsoft document explains. Use the Microsoft Automated Fixit on the document to resolve the issue. It will take care of the registry change required. Afterwards you will need to enter the BIOS and verify the SATA mode is set to AHCI and if not, change it to AHCI before the next boot into Windows.

  • Internal HDD no longer detected after Critical Update Windows 8.1

After installing the critical update that was released on Jan 2015 for Windows 8.1, my internal backup HDD started acting up. First, issues arose when it took an usual amount of time to open any folder. However, after trying a few times I was able to see
thumbnails and was even able to load a .mov file. Concerned something was failing, I tried to copy a folder with .jpg and .mov to my primary HDD but froze. I rebooted to see if it would resolve the issue but now no thumbnails would display and upon clicking
a .jpg, I get an 'Invalid File' in red with black background on Picture Viewer. I did a system restore back to the date before the critical update and now my HDD is completely gone from my computer. I tried working with MS tech support where he controlled
my PC to 'repair system update' which was successful then tried to do 'sfc /scannow' in cmd prompt which detected corrupt files.
    Any suggestions please?

    Hi HarryVeeh,
Till now no compatible issue about update Jan 2015 and storage device in Windows 8.1 has been reported. And since you mentioned that there is system corrupt files, it might be caused by corruption in boot section area of hard drive.
Please reconnect your hard drive first and make sure it is visible in BIOS.
Open Disk Manager and check if you could see your 2nd hard drive, if it is visible try to assign a letter to it.
Right Click on the Drive > Change Drive Letter and Paths > Choose a letter.
Once this is done you'll be find your 2nd HDD when you open My Computer.
If you can't then you'll definitely need to format it.
Repair your system corruption by using DISM tools:
To use DISM, make sure you have connected to internet.
    1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
    2. Run Command Prompt as a administrator.
    3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15-20 minutes)

    Hi Guys,

    smepeter
There are no specific updates for Lion or Mountain Lion. The Office updates are for all OS's.
    Go here: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads
Then, click on the version of Office that you have. It will list the updates that are available.
Also click on Additional Tools. Download and install the update for Auto Updater.
Note that Microsoft's updates for Office are usually not cumulative, so you must install them all in order.
The Auto Update app will find the ones you need and install them.
From any Office App, go to the Help menu and select "Check for Updates." It will open the AutoUpdater.
The current version is in /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0

  • I attempted to download a "critical" update for Excel, however, it failed.  When I try and open an excel doc I am not able to ~ can anyone help???

Hello - I attempted to download a "critical" update for Excel, however, it failed.  I shut down the computer.  Now I am not able to access docs in excel either ones I have already created or create new ones.  I continue to get an error message.  Please help!!!!!  thanks!!

I suspect you may want to try Microsoft's Mac Office support forums, since this appears to be an issue with their software.
What error message (if any) do you get if you try and start up Excel?
However, if it happened to me I'd probably remove Office and then resintall it from the original disks.  That will take you back to the original shipping version of Office after which it should update you to the latest version.
Most likely when Microsoft's update software failed it managed to corrupt the Excel program files in such a way that they are no longer usable.  So a resintallation of the program is likely the only real option to fix this one.

  • Problems after recent "windows critical update" 8 pm 3/13/2012

I was notified around 8pm that a critical update was ready to load from "Windows Update" so I allowed the update to load after I shutdown all open windows. After the update loaded and the computer restarted there was a screech emitting from the system speakers. I found the following changes:  my volume control now has 3 bars the usual volume bar and now a "system sound bar" and a "Stereo Mix (IDT High Definition Audio Codec)" bar, adjusting any of the bars has no effect on the screech, strangely also changed was my help file page. I know request held and no longer get the HP help page but instead the windows 7 help page.
I ran system restore and restored the system successfully to restore point at 9:30 am but all that did was removed the update but did not change the sound issue. Immediately before allowing the update to install I was listening to a recorded stream and all was well.
Any Ideas or suggestions? All drivers claim devices are running normally, and another restore to yesterday did not have an affect either.
Running Windows 7 Ult. 64-bit on a HP dv7t-4000 CTO, I do have extended warranty and I haven't contacted them yet.
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hi,
Uninstall current IDT audio driver from system.
    Resource:
    Uninstalling Software in Windows 7
Uninstall or change a program in Windows 7
Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Sound, Video and Game controllers
and check is there on the list IDT audio card. If yes then right-click it and choose uninstall driver. If not htne just skip to another step.
Download and install this audio driver. Restart system and check the results.

  • Updating the Security Update 2009 freezes when installing.

I don't update with the Software Updater anymore because it froze while updating the combo pack for OSX.4.1-11. I just use it to see what I need then I go to the Apple Support Downloads and update everything from there. Well now I'm trying to install the Security Update 2009 and it freezes right at the beginning of the install. I've zapped my pramm and have restarted my computer a number of times now and nothing works. I have a 450mhz dual processor G4 PPC with 512mb sdram running os 10.4.11. Does anyone know why it keeps freezing and if there is something I can do to stop it from freezing?
Oh yeah and I'm also trying to update to Java 8 and the page to download it from has a 404 error. Anyone know where else I can download Java 8 from, I'll do some more searching on google but if anyone can post a link that would be awesome. Ok n/m about the link I found it here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10246230

    Updating
Certain steps appear to minimize the risk of an update producing problems.
Number one is to make sure you have a bootable clone backup of your computer in case you do need to back out of it again. This is the only guaranteed way of not having to worry about the results of an update.
Some like to boot from their installer discs or an external backup and verify (and if necessary repair) their internal drives as well as drive permissions. This is done with Disk Utility. You can verify a drive while booted from the same drive but sometimes this produces spurious errors. Repairing a drive (if necessary) has to be done while booted from another disk. Permissions repair can, and is probably best, done when booted from your internal drive.

    [Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751]
You can also go to the step of booting into safe mode to do the install.

[Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107394]
I like to download the update onto my computer and install it from there rather than let Software Update do it. I know a few people who had problems with doing the update via software updater found a manual install to work.
    Repair permissions again afterward.
It helps to only install one update at a time and to run the computer for a while to make sure it is behaving well.
The more cautious even like to unplug third party peripherals (see [comment by BDaqua|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9040746#9040746]).
Almost all of the above steps (except backup) have been questioned as to necessity because probably many people have done successful updates without doing them. I say they can't hurt, they can very likely do good (especially if your computer isn't regularly maintained), so why not do them to be safe.

I hate when things start downloading in the background when I'm on the computer.
I have turned off automatic updates on other programs so I can choose times that are convenient for me for my computer to go off and install things.
Tonight a "Critical Updates" program from Verizon started on my computer.
    I'm not happy.
I have looked all over and I can not find any place where I can modify this setting. I can't choose to turn it off completely, or choose to have it check on shut-down, etc.

What Verizon software do you have on your computer that it would be updating? Since there is no software from Verizon required to get connected, I assume you have something else installed. (VISS, In-Home Agent, etc.)

There's a Live Chat option on the Contact Us page. I use it just about every time I need tech support.
