Toshiba L305 stops at BIOS splashscreen

Hello all,
My L305 won't boot past the BIOS splash screen. Pressing F2 or F12 does nothing.
All lights appear to be functioning normally. The HDD light turns on for a second then is always off. It appears there is no disc activity.
What I have tried:
-Boot from CD: The Cd spins and sounds like it is reading it but nothing happens.
-Reseated RAM and HDD (one at a time so I would know if one or the other fixed the issue.)
-Replaced RAM and HDD with known good components (same results as above.)
The CPU fan is kicking and airflow is good.
Is there anyway to update the BIOS from this state of booting or does it seem more like a MOBO issue?
thanks,
John
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Here's the file. When you run the  exe file watch closely, it should offer you a choice to do the automatic Windows update, or to create a bootable CD. But, I think there is a timer, so that if you don't respond quickly enough, it tryies the automatic Windows update.
If you can get the your machine to boot off the CD, it may work. If it works, after the update, the program will want to shutdown or reboot. Regardless, on the restart try to press 'F2' again as soon as you see the Toshiba logo to enter BIOS Setup, in the setup press 'F9' to load BIOS setup defaults, then press 'F10' to save and exit. Then try to boot into Windows again.

    hello i have a problem and i need your help to solve it
    last week i was working normally on my laptop toshiba l305 s919 and the battery was empty than the laptop turns off when i plugged the adaptor and turned on the laptop it is stucked on the first page toshiba leading innovation and don't enter to windows system what it could be the problem and thank's in advance
    p s the hard disk works normally because i tried it on another laptop...

    A PXE error means that the computer is trying to boot from the LAN port. Go into the Bios and check the computer's boot order. Make sure that the hard drive, usually abbreviated HDD, is the first boot device. If the hard drive is the first boot device and you are still getting the PXE error, this is because the computer is unable to boot from the hard drive. If this is the case, your best option is to reinstall the operating system. The bad news is that if you reinstall the OSyou will lose all of your data and files.

  • Toshiba L305-S5968 will not let me do a system recovery

    Toshiba L305-S5968 will not let me do a system recovery. It started out just an occasional vista crash. Then it became more often then even mpore often. Went to microsoft becasue I thought it was a vista problem as so many people was having same issues. Tried some suggestions (disabled superfetch svc) checked event log but was always something differenent that made it crash. No new hardware was installed. Went to western digital and HDD diagnostic said harddrive was good. Well now I cant even boot into safe mode maybe I waited to long to try and do the recovery. I did a full recoery about a week ago but it still did the same thing. when I run a system file check after doing a full recovery it says,"WRP found corrupt filesbut was unable to fix someof them.Details are included in the CBS.Logwindir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." I was unable to view files because it said programs unable to view. Now I cant even get safe mode as it start loding the drivers it hangs on \windows\system32\Drivers\Avgidshx.sys everytime. then will bluescreen. I've tried to get there by pressing 0 on keyboard and power it up. but after a few it asks for the hdd password to continue so i have to stop pressing the 0 key and then doesn't ever go to recovery. Please help.

    But Jerry why would i immediately after the full recovery still have the corrupt files i have managed to see what files they through advice if microsoft on how to view the protected files and i'll post the results because they don't really tell me much, here they are :2012-07-25 02:16:02, Info        CSI    000001b5 [SR] Repairing 1 components

    my toshiba L305-S5907 freezes most of the time, mostly when im using the internet it stop responding and i can't use the ctrl-alt -delete it doesnt work so i have to press the power button, please help, thanks

    All you need is a SATA internal hard drive for notebooks.  Those are 2.5" drives and are widely available in sizes up to 500GB from Western Digital (Blue Scorpio series) and Seagate (Momentus series).  Be sure you get the SATA interface since those series also include PATA drives.

  • 16GB SODIMM anyone interested in pushing TOSHIBA together to update BIOS

    Hi,
    Anyone interested to convice Toshiba to update the  BIOS Memory Reference Code routine to recognize the new 16GByte SODIMM modules released by the memory company I´m Intelligent for the differnet product lines including laptop Satellite?
    We could have 32GB with two slots.
    So, please answer the ones interested and stay tuned.
    Thanks.

    Thanks, Jerry, for the quick reply.
    Before I posted my original question I had been through all available downloads/docs for my Satellite and read up on the Battery Manager feature on some of the Toshiba notebooks.
    My Satellite does NOT have the Battery Manager feature/app among the many Toshiba-branded utilities.  Only "ecoMode," which doesn't appear to do much exept trim down power consumption, and "PC Health Monitor," which reports info on battery charge level, etc, and allows access to Windows power management plans for tweaking.  But no Tosh-branded Battery Manager application...
    What I'm trying to determine is whether it could be ADDED to my machine, by updating BIOS to a newer TOSH version (maybe that's a bad idea), or by downloading a utility app for a newer Toshiba laptop, or both?
    "Officially" it appears that the Battery Manager (and therefore, Eco Charge) was not available for my older L505, but what I want to know is whether I could add it somehow?

  • Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update

    Hi.
    Yesterday I did a BIOS update on my Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E-03Z00QGR with the appropriate flash:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&langua ge=17&selOS=10&selType=all&yearupload=&monthupload =&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=userMachines&search =&action=search&macId=&country=all&selectedLanguag e=17&type=all&page=1&ID=58477&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42
    bios-20070709111839.zip
    After the flashing procedure the machine rebooted automatically, but unfortunately it now keeps hanging at the Thoshiba welcome screen. Also pressing F2 or F12 won't change anything. It seems like the BIOS is corrupt.
    I saw, that in the BIOS package are delivered two flash files (s10gm590.rom and s10pm590.rom). But just executing the SanAntonion10 BIOS590MP.exe a .vbs script is started that decides automatically chooses and loads a flash file. Maybe it chose the wrong one?
    What shall I do now? Is there a way to restore the BIOS, or do I have to send my notebook in?
    Thanks in advance

    > Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update
    What to say Marc. It looks like you have used a wrong BIOS version or you have updated the BIOS in wrong way.
    You could try to access the BIOS and try to set the settings to default.
    Dont forget to save the settings if you will exit the BIOS.
    But if this procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country.
    Possibly the guys will try to flash the BIOS again with other special version.
    Good luck

    According to the spec above, your model comes with the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator program. So I infer it has the recovery image on the hard drive. You can verify that using Disk Management.

  • Satellite Pro L300-EZ1004X - TouchPad stopped working, BIOS update does not help

    I have a Satellite Pro L300-EZ1004X laptop. Few days ago TouchPad stopped working. This is not a Fn + F9 issue.
    In Device Manager it looks like hidden device and has (!) on it. Re-installing Synaptics drivers, updating them, removing the device in Safe Mode - nothing works. (TouchPad did not work in Safe Mode). One of the forums mentioned BIOS update. For some strange reason the latest BIOS for this specific laptop is from 2008 (ver. 1.5). Other L300 laptops have option to update BIOS to ver. 2.20 (2010) but not mine! I tried to load it (ver. 2.20)from Windows and from boot disk without success. I installed BIOS ver. 1.5. After reboot - keyboard stop working! And TouchPad ... still dead and still appears as hidden device. Using external mouse I restarted the laptop and get into the BIOS settings. In Advanced Settings disabled TouchPad completely. KEYBOARD START WORKING IN WINDOWS!!!
    Any suggestions on how to make this TouchPad to work? Or how to get newer BIOS for this Laptop?
    Thank you in advance!

    Sounds like it has died, you can purchase a new one from a parts supplier and pay someone to install it or if you are any good with such things you can try to do it yourself.  I suggest just sticking with the external mouse.

  • Toshiba Laptop Stopped Recognizing Nano

    I have two laptops both running windows 7.  One laptop still reads and syncs nano, the other stopped.  This is an ipod Nano multi-touch. Recently, the Toshiba laptop had the motherboard replaced.  This is when it stopped responding to the nano when I plug it in via usb. Absolutely nothing happens. No error, no funny logo on the nano, it's like nothing was plugged in to the laptop. The nano and laptop just look at each other like "what?"  My first thought is it needs drivers cuz that's how pc's work. Eveyrthing is about drivers.  Other devices are recognized when I plug them into usb such as android phone, mouse etc. The nano is also recognized by other computers.  Any suggestions?

    Recently, the Toshiba laptop had the motherboard replaced.
    Check also to make sure that your BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date for the new motherboard. (Toshiba USB connections to Apple devices can be a little cranky if they aren't up-to-date, although it's not as common an issue as it used to be.)
    If no joy there, the following (old) document might also be worth a try:

  • I can't activate windows 8.1 pre-installed on my Toshiba E45-B4200 after BIOS Update

    I bought Toshiba laptop Model E45-B4200, at first time I could activate windows 8.1 like a charm.
    Few months later Windows 8.1 has crashed, so I did clean install of pre-installed windows, no problem so far. Toshiba Application installer app has downloaded BIOS update, so I ran it.
    I tried to activate windows after BIOS update, but it didn`t work. No error message, but Change PC settings window just got minimized every time that I tried to click on Activate Windows option. I thought that I did some mistake, so I repeated windows reinstallation, and same problem occurred again.
    Now I can`t update Windows, Office 2013, and so on.
    I`ve tried SLUI 4 command to force activation by phone, but it didn`t work as well.
    I read on MS blogs that windows 8.1 stores product key on MSDM table, windows should be activated normally. Now I got no options now, can you help me?

    It shouldn't need to be activated it. Everything should be automatic. Because it's asking you, that's already indicative of a problem. You might want to call customer support.

  • Toshiba AT300se stops responding when heated

    Hi all,
    I have created another topic about my tablet acting on its own but now I found out that it happens when it is heated. This happens rather easily I would say, after 10 minutes of playing a game or so.
    When it is heated the screen stops responding, no input. If I put in a freezer for eg 1 minute then it works perfectly, until again it gets heated.
    Any ideas on what I should do? It seems like a hardware problem. Right?
    Should I try a case with fans? Or the dangerous solution of putting it to the freezer for many hours if possible to reverse the hardware problem (long shot but the manual says on power off it can withstand -20C )
    Any ideas on how to adjust any temperature heating protection it may have?
    Finally, as there is no lock switch to open the case, do I just pull the cover from the speakers?
    Thank you for reading

  • Toshiba please add a bios patch for qosmio x70 series to fix common issue!

    The x70 juding by what most people have said about it, is that it has overheating issues, and mine like most others is no different. Though mine doesn't shut off my gpu runs over 80c which is when it downclocks to avoid overheating, and makes most all of my games unplayable. I have already applied thermal paste and cleaned it out several times as someone who is experienced with computers I can tell it has to do with design.
    But there may be another simple fix, I feel like the fan even at full speed still goes too slow. We need a bios patch that makes the fan run extra fast when the nvidia gpu hits 75 degrees, so that everyone can enjoy a nice gaming experience without overheating. Can someone(customer service rep) pass this message along to upper management and see if we can get something done. Me and many other customers would be absolutely delighted if you guys at Toshiba could impiment such a feature.
    I would like feedback to this idea, and beg for something like this to implimented, I know Toshiba can do something like this, please help make your customers happy with their gaming laptops.
    ~~~Thank you.
    I have just got my Satellite today and was updating the Toshiba drivers and tried to install a new bios update. I ran the program and the laptop restarted and has gone to a blank screen, power light on, and nothing. This was 10 min ago and stills no change. What should I do? It said not to turn it off.
    Just to let you all know. I tried to turn the laptop off at the power button and no luck. So I tuck the battery out and unhooked the power to shut it down. Powered up and started in safe mode ok. What is it with flash updating had it brick a router and a net book
    Icouldn't reboot even pressing poweroff button for several sec's. What is the problem? If possible reply also for private email [email protected]
    Hi,
    had you read the "Driver Update Information for Windows XP with Service Pack 2" which is available at http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com in the driver download section!
    For BIOS update I can only say, if the notebook doesn't start anymore after BIOS update, you have to contact a Toshiba Service Partner for diagnostics! When you see the red Toshiba logo at boot up you can try it again.
    At http://www.toshiba-tro.de/gcc/biosinfo/index.html you will find some further infomations about BIOS update procedures!
