Toshiba L50-A Cannot use recovery partition.

Hello i have l50-A series satelite laptop.
I had windows 8.
Recently i installed windows 8.1 from dvd. (oem), and just in case, i did not touch recovery partition to use it later.
Right now i want to use recovery partition for the factory reset, but i cannot reach recovery partition.
I tried pressing 0,
I tried using boot menu,
I tried windows 8.1  recovery options... nothing works.
(also right now it seems to be multiple recovery partitions..)
I'm pretty sure factory recovery partition is healty and still stood. (seen as 10gb partition)
ps: "Kurtarma Bölümü" = Recovery Partition.

Toshiba uses the number 0 or f12 to reach the recovery on start up. Press the shift key when shutting down then press the number 0 or the f12 on start up, you may have to press the fn key and the 0 or f12.
Some have posted that after going to Windows 8.1 it breaks the Windows 8 recovery option so they had to use Windows 8 recovery media.

  • Using recovery partition

I brought hp g6 with Windows7 and then I changed into Windows 8.but now I want to switch it back to Windows 7 using recovery partition how can it be done

    Hello udayaram,
I see that you are trying to revert back to Windows 7 after a Windows 8 upgrade. When you upgraded to Windows 8 it changed the recovery partition to the Windows 8 partition.
Any recovery ran on the computer will take it back to the beginning of Windows 8 not Windows 7. To get back to Windows 7 you will need Windows 7 recovery discs.

  • Re: Is it possible to use recovery partition from 2nd drive?

    Hello everyone,
My question is as the title states. Basically I am planning to install a SSD as primary drive and use my original Toshiba drive as secondary drive from ODD drive with an adapter. My concern is will I be able to use the recovery partition of the second drive and if I ever need to go back to out-of-box state will it format and install everything on my SSD or the original HDD?
    Btw my laptop is L755-1DR.
    Thanks,
    DJ_TLG

I cannot say for sure but Im 99,9999% sure this will not work. When you change hardware platform (SSD and HDD) HDD recovery wizard will not be able to find recovery image due to missing specific markers.
Create recovery DVD disc and problem is solved. Of course do it with original notebook hardware configuration and factory settings.

  • Can't restore from Time Machine using recovery partition

I came up with the idéa to put in an extra disk (SSD) into my mid 2009 13" Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion and create my own fusion drive.
In order to make sure not to lose all of my data I made sure to back up all my files using Time Machine so that simply could restore my entire system to the new drive.
Careful as one should be when about to wipe the entire drive on a computer I wanted to check so that I could make a proper restore from my TM backup disk. So I booted into recovery mode and choose to restore from Time Machine and then I selected my external drive, but then nothing. Where the list of my latest backups should be there was nothing.
I've tried to format the disk several times, changing disk permissions etc.
Does anyone have a clue what could solve this? Is it possible that it has something to do with the fact that I'm (probably) running 10.8.3 and that my recovery partition is 10.8.2?

Is the TM backup complete? When you Enter Time Machine, do you have snapshots going back in time?
See here for info on a problem Pondini has found with Time Machine that may have affected you:
UPDATED: Serious Time Machine bug on Mountain Lion (Updated)
You may just have to restart your TM backups to get those folders backed up.
If you do have that issue, please post at his link. He is trying to get enough background info to pass to Apple to solve the problem.

  • Cannot access recovery partition after enabling filevault

I did a clean install of Lion by extracting the disk image to an external Firewire drive, using disk utility to reparition my Macbook Pro's internal drive to a single, blank HFS+ parition, and then installed Lion to that partition from the external firewire drive.  It worked flawlessly.  At that point, without the firewire drive plugged in, I could boot to Lion, and if I held option while starting the computer, I could also see the recovery parition as an option to boot into.
After that, I used Bootcamp to install Windows, which resized my Lion partition.  After that, I enabled FileVault.  Everything went resonabley well: The Lion partition is now encrypted, and Windows still works, and the computer is functioning, however when holding option at boot, the only options I see are Lion and Windows.  The Recovery boot option is no longer visible.  I don't know if it was the act of using Bootcamp, or Filevault (or the combination of both) that caused it to dissapear, but I changed nothing else that I can think of.
I'm resonabley certain the actual recovery partition is still there. The diskutil list command outputs the following:
    Lownins-MacBook-Pro:~ Lownin$ diskutil list
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *320.1 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:          Apple_CoreStorage                         259.0 GB   disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk0s3
4:       Microsoft Basic Data Windows                 60.2 GB    disk0s4
My question is: How do I re-enable the Apple_Boot Recovery partition as a boot option from the "option key while booting" menu?

Perhaps it was a mistake installing Microsoft Security Essentials last night! The computer went into this limp mode (black screen with just the a mobile mouse indicator)  this morning. Anyone with this experience after installing same?  Thanks!

  • Factory recovery partition on windows 8 in Asus X551CALaptop

I purchased Asus x551CA notebook on 22nd Feb 2014. After about 45 days I formated hard disk partition
on which Activated Windows 8 operating systme was installed.I formatted an repartitioned HDD.
And I installed and uninstalled windows8 and windows 8.1 90 days enterprise evaluation edition. Because of
these link to factory recovery partition is broken.
I have created system image disks which are working to restore system. I forgot how I created these disks. May be
I did control panel>recovery>file history>windows 7 file recovery. So these disks should be System Image Backup.
I think these are not OEM recovery disks. When I insert these disks during reset and refresh I get a message
that "Media you inserted is not valid". And I am able to create system image on second partition of hard disk of
my laptop.I have also got product key of windows 8 by a program jellybean keyfinder.
To restore from discs created by me. I insert a repair disc then I go to UEFI settings. Then I change boot preferences to
boot from DVD. Then I go to Restore form images. Then computer asks me to insert my discs no from 1 to 4. One after the other. Then computer restore to windows 8. It looks alike as it was factory made.
-When I try to create a recovery drive by going to control panel> Recovery >create a recovery drive
Recovery drive dialog box appears but with grayed check box of "copy the recovery partition from PC
to the recovery drive". Please tell me how can it come with not grayed dialog box so that I can copy
recovery partition to USB pen drive? When notebook was new this check box was not grayed and I was able to
copy recovery partition on USB pen drive.
-Since I cannot copy recovery partition to USB therefore I also cannot reset and refresh windows 8 on
the basis of USB. It was working when notebook was new.
-And reset or refresh also not working on the basis of hidden recovery partition. How can it will start
working? It was working when notebook was new.
-I have tried diskpart command do make hidden recovery partition visible. But it becomes invisible
after restart. I used following command
    1. Command Prompt Run as administer.
    2. diskpart
    3. list disk
    4. select disk 0
    5. list partition
    6. select partition 6
    7. assign letter z
by these commands hidden recovery partition becomes visible and again when I restart laptop it becomes invisible.
And I am not able to do anything with recovery partition E.G. copy the recovery partition to USB
When I created a system image using the following command I became able to refresh my PC. May be it was refreshing
on the basis of newly created image.
    recimg /createimage D:\IMAGE81
    recimg /setcurrent D:\IMAGE81
But it is also not working this time and it gives a message "Drive on which windows is installed is locked unlock it".
May because I installe AVG antivirus it locked the drive.
    I also used REAgentC command
    reagentc /setreimage /path F:\Recovery\WindowsRE\ /target C:\Windows /bootkey 4300
Maybe I executed above command once again I used D: instead of F:
And I was able to refresh PC but I was not able to Reset. And I was not able to copy recovery partition on USB
by going to control panel> Recovery >create a recovery drive.
Recovery drive dialog box appears but with grayed check box of "copy the recovery partition from PC
    to the recovery drive".
((I am giving images of computer management in first_image no partition was created it was in factory made state. And
in second_Image I created an extra disk partition which is present on disk this time.)) I cannot give images because
of my account is not varified.
So I am giving output of diskpart command to understand disk partitions.
    C:\>diskpart
    DISKPART> list disk
Disk ###    Status        Size      Free     Dyn     Gpt
    Disk 0      Online        465 GB    1024 KB           *
    DISKPART> list volume
Volume ###  Ltr   Label               Fs       Type           Size    Status          Info
    Volume 0        E                                      DVD-ROM     0 B       No Media
Volume 1        C     OS                  NTFS   Partition    186 GB   Healthy      Boot
Volume 2        D     DATA              NTFS   Partition    130 GB   Healthy
Volume 3        F     DOWNLOADS  NTFS   Partition    128 GB   Healthy
Volume 4               SYSTEM          FAT32  Partition   100 MB   Healthy      System
Volume 5               Recovery        NTFS   Partition    900 MB   Healthy      Hidden
Volume 6               Restore          NTFS   Partition     20 GB    Healthy      Hidden
in the beginnig instead of D: (130 GB) and F:(128 GB) there was only one partition D:(258 GB) 130+128 GB.
Please tell me answers of following quesions:-
    1. Tell me how to regain the link to factory recovery drive.
    2. Please tell me how can I refresh and reset PC on the basis of Hidden Factory Recovery Partition. And how can I copy Hidden Factory Recovery Partition on USB and DVDs. I have 16GB USB pen drive and a DVD writer. So I can use these two storage media
only and except these I have 500GB HDD on my laptop.
    4. I want to know that Factory recovery partition is useful or not. Should I delete it.
    3. I have DVDs as I said above. On the basis of these I can reinstall windows 8. When I created these discs windows 8 was present on laptop. Currently windows 8.1 is present on laptop. Please tell me how can I create my own hidden recovery partition for
windows 8. I have upgraded to windows 8.1. So please tell me can I create my own hidden recovey partition for windows 8.1.
    5. Can I download contents of factory recovery partition from internet.
    6. Should I go to shopkeeper. He repairs computers as well. Probably he will manage for me to get Recovery partition discs. In this case these DVDs may be different from my DVDs as I mentioned above. Maybe only thing I get from these discs that I will
able to reset and refresh computer.
    7. Microsoft shoult create a program that can re-establish link to factory recovery partition. And this program should be able to create new hidden recovery partition as well. As I have upgraded to windows 8.1. So I think I should have a new hidden recovery partition
for Windows 8.1. I think I can above thing my other way. If I create new set of DVDs by going to control panel>recovery>   file history>System Image Backup. It will create discs for windows 8.1. And I will able to restore system to windows
8.1 by these discs. And for windows 8 I have already discs. But these discs will only work by changing boot options(by choosing UEFI) and image recovery. And reset and refresh functions will not work then in such situation factory recovery partition
will become useless. Then such situation I should delete factory recovery partition as it is useless.
    8. At beginnign I also tried AI recovery burner. After trying it for 2-3 days I came to know that AI recovery burner is not for windows 8. There should be a tutorial for these thing so that people like me not waste their time.

I used a software named UNDELETE on my hidden recovery partition to recover it. I get some files by this software. Important thing is that I got a 2.84 GB file named 00eebc9d.rb in dir D:\recovered1\Files Detected by their Signatures\Unknown Application\.rb.
This file may be useful. Please suggest me how can I use these files to reset and refresh my OS. I used some dir commands as follows to get list of these files:
    dir /s >f:\list.txt
    dir /s /a:s >f:\list2.txt
Some files were system files so these file were not shown by first dir command. So I used second dir command.
    Output of dir /s >f:\list.txt
Volume in drive D is DATA

Kindly guide me how can I use my hidden recovery partition to reset and refresh by use of these files.

  • Use a partition on external drive for windows support software

    Hello
I am trying to install Windows 7 on my MacBook AIR  13" 8GB.  I have an external drive that i created a partition for the Windows Support software but when I choose to proceed in Boot Camp Assistant to download the windows support software it says the entire drive has to be one partition formatted to MS DOS.
Any way around this..I have the Windows disc and would like to avoid having to buy another 8 GB or greater size external disc drive
    Thanks

I do not want to install Windows on the external drive.
An external drive is needed to download the windows support software as stated in Boot Camp.  It seems I cannot use a partition on the external drive to download the support software.. Wondering if there is a work around this..

  • Replacing hard drive & using recovery discs made by myself.

HPdv6 2119tx laptop. After replacing hard drive and loading recovery discs (that I made) successfuly, on reboot it messages something about cannot locate disk or load bootable disk (sorry, cannot remember exact wording but back to the start). Could this be because I replaced a 650gb drive with a 500gb drive.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
Normally you cannot use recovery disks on a smaller hard drive.
But you should be able to at least boot from the first recovery disk and see what happens.
To do that, you need to have the first disk in your dvd drive.
Restart the PC and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the ESC key and select the one time boot menu option.  From that, select the DVD drive and proceed.
If the ESC key method doesn't work, tap the F9 key instead.
It depends on the type of BIOS in your PC (normally dependent on its age) as to what key you need to tap.

  • Windows Vista recovery partition lost - will toshiba send me discs?

Hi, something happened to my hard drive and the vista recovery partition was erased, so i cannot recover vista. I just bought this laptop 2 months ago and i paid for the OS with it, i have the code of authentication and serial number on the bottom of my laptop, will toshiba send me install discs? i also have the emails from best buy from when i purchased the laptop online.
    thanks

See, the the thing is, I DID make the recovery cd... but it isn't working. From my understanding, the cd uses the information from the recovery partition to restore Windows? Correct me if I'm wrong.  Every time I boot up the cd it detects no OS and when I click continue, it begins the installation and immediately says Installation cancelled, missing files, something like C:\win.int is missing.
So the recovery cd is not working. I called Toshiba and from what I could understand from the horrible english, was that they would charge me for another recovery cd... which I don't need, because I have one. Or send in my laptop for "repair." They said it was my hard drive. Which is complete bull**bleep**, when windows failed I ran a linux os on it perfectly fine, so it is not my hard drive.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? I have a product key for vista which I PAID for when I bought the laptop... I don't think it's fair to have to buy it over again for $100-200
No, the recovery disks don't rely on anything on the hard drive.  From what you say, either you are not booting from the optical drive, or the disks indeed are faulty.
The last I knew, replacement disks were $25.  See the sticky at the top of the General Discussion topic for details.
There have been a lot of reports of problems with recovery disks, so I'm a bit surprised that Toshiba won't ship you replacements at no charge.  Might be worth another try, and an attempt to get to the next tech level.
