Toshiba L750-A218 BIOS 3.30, Fan Speed

Hi, here is a new issue I am experiencing after the BIOS update. I feel the internal fans are spinning all the time by placing my hands near the keyboard. Fan speed according to Toshiba software is 50%+ while I am not doing anything. On the other hand, it was at 25% before the update. Did they update the BIOS to give the laptop more ventilation or something. This is weird. CPU temp is 45%. I have upgraded from 3.00 to 3.30, for your information. Thanks.
P.S. The fan speed is stuck at 50%+ and wont go lower than that. Its always on, I can feel it while resting my hands and typing.

Did you get any where with the fan issue? I've a L750-171 (UK), experiencing the same fan issue. Like you say even when idle, the CPU report around 45degrees (using Core Temp app) and using Toshiba Health app 45%. I think the processor is rated to max 100 degrees so % and degrees map up one to one. Anyway the fan never drops below 50%. My complaint is the noise. I use my laptop in a quiet room so it's pretty annoying. My other tosh laptop doesn't whine like this.
The only fan related option I've adjusted is via the "power options" control panel applet.Clicking "change plan settings" then "Change advanced power settings" scroll down to "Toshiba Power Saver Settings v8.9.4.64. From here open "Cooling Methods" and then changed "Plugged in:" to "Battery Optimized" - I was hoping this would reduce the fan speed but didn't seem to have any effect.
I've updated my BIOS from 2.7 to 3.4 - same issue continues.
I've looked at the bios settings, but see nothing related to fan speed and temperature.
Thanks

  • Bios not reading fan speed

With my new arctic cooler copper silent 2tc install the bios doesn't read the fan speed until the system under load.
When it's under load the system seems ok but when I and just doing a bit of web surfing I'm getting BSOD's (processor.sys error) and freezing.
is this related to the fan speed not being detected can this cause problems?

sounds like its letting it get to hot at idle
    what are your temps
when it goes wrong it's normally in the 30's and then I reboot and watch it in bios stays high 30's or early 40's
when running prime in heat mode it's never got above 54c which was just peak not a constant.
When I was running prime in heat mode the system seemed quite stable and fan was showing around 1600 - 1800 rpm

  • Satellite L750-A218 - Windows 8 problems and solutions

    Hi,
    this is my first post.
I upgraded my Toshiba l750-a218 laptop to windows 8 and i have been facing some problems (hiccuos).
i waited for the upgraded drivers and they were released on 21,22,23 this month and they had no solutions so this is what i noticed on windows 8
    1. The function keys flash cards are gone. i tried every TVAP available for windows 8 and flash card support utility for other laptops but its not working. the falsh cards dont appear on the screen but all the keys work, except i can;t turn bluetooth and wifi on/off separetely.
    2. bluetooth drivers: i couldn't find driver for this laptop so i used atheros bleutooth filter of another B series toshiba laptop which comes with windows 8 and bluetooth driver. now its working.
    3. computer turns on when opening lid even if its shut down or hibernated. installed toshiba hardware driver i saw an option to turn on pc when opening lid tried both on/off no change
    4. graphics nvidia used drivers from nvidia official site
5.toshiba sleep and charge has changed to shut down and charge probably related to problem #3, i turned usb sleep and charge off from the bios.
    6. synaptics i used official drivers from their site
other than that everything works fine.

    >except i can;t turn bluetooth and wifi on/off separetely.
This is how it work in Win 8
    >2. bluetooth drivers: i couldn't find driver for this laptop so i used atheros bleutooth filter of another B series toshiba laptop which comes with windows 8 and bluetooth driver. now its working.
Yes, some Win 7 drivers works in connection with Win 8
    >3. computer turns on when opening lid even if its shut down or hibernated. installed toshiba hardware driver i saw an option to turn on pc when opening lid tried both on/off no change
Here you should perform a complete shutdown in Windows 8
In Windows 8, when shutting down a computer, actually a hybrid shutdown is performed by default.

  • NB fan speed adjust with CoreCenter

Looks like it isn't possible to adjust NB fan speed with latest CoreCenter on a 865PE Neo2 with latest Bios.
CPU fan speed adjust works great.
    Any help?

I've just tested Speedfan and this Program doesn't work also (and YES i've read the complete guide).
Is it a problem with the latest Bios 3.6?

  • T420 fan speed

    Hi there
My T420 with i5 2540M and integrated graphics shows following fan behavior:
    - No load 3300rpm with CPU temp <55 C
    - Max load 3600rpm with CPU temp ~85C (due to CPU throttling, I assume)
Is this a normal behavior observed on other T420 as well? I now reverted to tpfancontrol which stops the fan in idle mode at 52 C and gradually increases it up to 5000rpm for max load.
This works for me, but I would be happy if it worked in BIOS mode as well. Anybody with suggestions or the same problems? Thanks in advance!

Under 15% load, CPU is clocked to ~800MHz and fan is at 3544 RPM as reported by speedfan. Temperature is 42 C. Fan is inaudible.
Running graphics intensive program on iGPU, CPU bounces between 800MHz and 2.5GHz. CPU load is reported as under 20%. CPU temp climbs until it eventually reaches 97C it then seems to throttle, but seems to try to stay around 85. Fan was running at 4,527RPM The processor and dGPU share the heatsink and the dGPU shows a temp of 83C under 0% load at this time. nVidia GPU Activity Icon reports no programs are using dGPU.
Running a single threaded high CPU program, with nothing graphics intensive temperature  will go up to 97C, CPU clocks up to 3.2GHZ and stays around 3.1 to 3.2GHz at all times. Fan speed reported as 4510RPM in BIOS mode. Fan speed goes up to 6487 with speedfan. Turbo Boost Plus allows the fan to go tup 54544RPM.
High GPU program on dGPU (NVS 4200M), CPU reports load of under 30%. Processor speed bounces from 2.5GHz to 800MHz. GPU temperature approaches 99C and processor temperature never exceeds 92C. Fan speed reported as 4527.
High GPU (igpu) plus High CPU, CPU load of up to 75%. CPU speeds around 2.5GHz with minimal throttling as low as 1.6GHz. GPU temperature approaches 99C. Fan 4510 RPM.
I'm interested in finding out why your CPU temp never gets over 85C.

P.S. The fan speed is stuck at 50%+ and wont go lower than that.

Yeah, I figured they updated the fan work.
Though, its really annoying. Why keep the fan at 50% even though the CPU is at 4% and no work is being done. Actually, what I think they did is set the fan speed at 50% minimum. I can feel the vibrations of fans while resting my hands on the rest pad.
This is driving me crazy. That is because I type a lot.
I upgraded the BIOS hoping that I will be able to install HDD Saftey software and that did not work.
Above that, I gained a new problem. The BIOS software did not give me the chance to back the BIOS up.
Totally inefficient, I checked the BIOS updating tutorial and there was this software that offered that.
Though, mine was not like this.
It actually started the flashing automatically. I wonder if someone can feel the fans working like me on other laptops of the same model or family (L750 and L755).

  • Re: Satellite L750-A218 - Fan vibrations

    Ok, here is the thing.
I put my hands on the rest pad and I feel the fan spinning.
Its annoying, especially when I need to type for more than 1 hour.
My original BIOS v3.00 fan table was acceptable for writing.
Though, after upgrading to a recent one, this issue was introduced. It updated the minimum fan speed to a very high value.
On other laptops, I do not have this issue at all. I even checked on another laptop from a different Satellite family. The issue is not there.
Anyway, I took the laptop to the Toshiba service provider.
They told me, they did not have a solution to this issue. I asked the engineer there to send you a note regarding this. He replied that he would forward my message to you.
Anyway, this issue is one of two major ones, I have with the laptop.
Though, this one is not acceptable.
*Please, provide a solution to this problem and contact me with what to do _as soon as possible_ or provide me with a way to contact you directly.*

This is user to user community
As far as I know if you have some hardware problems with the notebook, the ASP in your country is your contact person I think they can forward any requests to Toshiba
    >I put my hands on the rest pad and I feel the fan spinning.

Ive got a notebook from another manufacturer and I can feel the fans spinning too especially when the CPU temperature goes up and the cooling modules need to run faster in order to cool down the internal parts
Did you try to set the cooling modules and CPU to more battery friendly state in order to decrease the performance and the fan activity??
    Would recommend doing this
You can change the settings in Win 7 power options.

there you should take a look to options Cooling Method / Processor power management within the TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings

  • Editting fan speed in bios (unique S/N important?)

    Hello,
I was looking at the closed thread concerning requests to modify their twin frozr gtx 560 bios to the requested fan speed. I saw that Svet might release a program so that we can edit the bios ourselves.  I am wondering why the serial number of the card is requested? Is there a unique serial number check? If not, couldn't someone with the bios modded to 30% fan speed just share his bios rom?
    Thank you.

Different cards have different firmware, that is why he needs the serial.
To name something, it matters what memory-chips are on the card, as such it will have a different firmware, where the model-number is the same.

  • MS-7173 fan speed - bios v1.2 - smart fan BIOS setting

    Hi all,
I would like to know if there is any possibility to set smart fan in BIOS on the MOBO mentioned above to lower than 60C.
My goal is to reduce fan RPM, because now it runs at 1400RPM constantly. I have read numerous MSI forum pages and other pages as well, where people are advising to set smart fan to lower values like 35 or 40 degrees, what would perfectly solve my problem. But I can only set it to 60C min!
Does this setting have to do with my BIOS version? I recently used MSI Live Update to get the latest official 1.2 version, but it did not help with this setting. Still the same.
Here on the MSI pages I found threads related to this MOBO and BIOSes and I found something like this:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108946.0
Alternatively I read something about versions 1.25 from some czech forums, and a BIOS from MaxData. Those were mentioned always only in relation to Vista and Win7 installation. But I only want to change the smart fan setting. Is flashing of those BIOSes adviseable?
Sure, I'll have to try i guess. But I don't want to unnecessairily brick my MOBO or do a useless upgrade.
General question: Is there any way to get to set the smart fan value below 60C in BIOS?
I only managed to reduce the RPM in Ubuntu with lm-sensors and fancontrol, which is kind of a workaround, but I am searching for a more general way.
    Thanks alot!

Hi guys, I stumbled across the solution while trying to fix something different
The ultimate solution for my mobo was to flash the MAXDATA bios mentioned somwhere here in the forums, can't find the link right now. After that a plenty more settings appeared in the HW Monitor BIOS page and the CPU fan speed is now by default 740RPMs, without changing anything tadaa!
Don't worry, nothing will by fried, temps were not moving above 45C. Now the smartfan is kicking in at 55C, what did not happen yet..

  • GTX 670 PE OC - need BIOS with reduced dust removal fan speed

    Hi,
I'm looking for someone who will be pleased to reduce or stop dust removal fan speed after restart.
Would like to modify latest BIOS with UEFI support.
There was a BIOS which was removed from German MSI site.
I can provide it if necessary.
I'm willing to give some reward for the effort.
    Thanks.

Flashed and now much quieter at boot.
Many thanks for your help Svet, you guys are amazing.

  • K7N2GM-L 6777 BIOS doesnt correctly detect CPU temp and FAN speed

    Hello,
    I use a K7N2GM-L 6777 mobo with a amd 1800+ and a arctic copper silent 2tc.
the mobo isnt able to detect the right cpu temperature and cpu fan speed in bios.
    did anyone experienced that problem??
i already updated to the latest bios V1.6 but no change !!
the cpu temp is shown about 6°C/42°F and the fan speed is 0 rpm !!!
but the system temp is shown correctly (21°C/69°F (when i just started the system))
    any idea
    greetz,
    fba

    Hello!
It has been heard of before, yes, but your board is rather new so I don't think it has had an issue yet.
There is normally a sensor on the processor. If it does on your processor I can't say. If there isn't a sensor on the processor, or if it is covered with thermal grease, or otherwise damaged, BIOS and all programs that read BIOS data will be wrong.
Bit off: I'm speculating in that HSF, and I wonder how good and quiet it is. Been recommended by a store nearby.

  • Portege M400 freezes, screen goes black and fan speed increase when moved

    Can someone please help me?
I recently received the Portege M400 from a friend 4 days ago and reformatted to Windows XP Tablet edition.
All was going well until I wanted to move the laptop to my coffee table, but as soon as I move the laptop it freezes, the screen goes black and the fan speed increases dramatically!,
So far I have had no success in fixing this problem and I much appreciated is some one could help me!

    Hi there,
I have the same laptop. Bought it from a friend also! That was a year ago. It was working perfectly till 6 months ago when I had it going 100% like yours. Screen freezes, fan speeds up and hangs up once it is moved. Recently, even if it doesnt move it hangs up also. I have tried many things like reinstalling drivers and Windows.....etc.
I dont think it is Windows problem or drivers problem, because if you run BIOS and try to move the laptop, it also hangs up!!
Tried updating the BIOS, also no benefit. I ended up opening the laptop and having a look to the motherboard (thinking that I could see something that I could fix!! But again, did not get any results.
I tried also disconnecting peripherals one by one to see whether I could spot the problem, I disconnected the battery, the hard disk, the optical drive, the wirelss modem (from inside), memory, and even the bluetooth, but could not spot the culprit.
I believe now that the problem is basically the motherboard (sort of wear and tear insulation problem) and it is beyond my humble expertise.
I am sure if I would contact TOSHIBA, they would not be of much benefit as I am a second hand user. And if I try to buy from them a main board, they will charge me hell of money.
I hope that this is helpful for you to avoid you wasting your time like me.
Please if you would come into any progress, let me know. Likewise, I would be happy to update you.

  • Re: Satellite L650-116 - fan speed at 90% constantly

I have a Toshiba Satellite L650-116 psk1je...the fan speed is at 89-90% almost all the time even though I practically don't do nothing on it ... I don't have any games running or programs which require big system requirements.
The temperature of the core is between 42-45 degrees. Can the problem come from the last BIOS version 2.10 ? I tried to install a previous version of bios 1.80 but it won't let me to install it because it's older than the one I already have.

i managed to fix it up.. it was from the dust, at least that was the problem in my case.. I just blown through the holes underneath the laptop and the fan is working at normal parameters .. hope this helps for all the others who have the same problem

  • K9n Platinum fan speed control

    Hi!
    I have the following configuration:
    -Motherboard: MSI K9N Platinum v1.1
    -Bios: AMI v1.3
-CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core)
-CPU cooler: Artic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro
    -Memory: Kingmax 2*1 GB
    -Video card: MSI NX7600 GT
    -Power Supply: Antec NeoHE430 430W
-Hard Drive: Samsung 250 GB SP2504C
-Operating system: Win XP Pro SP2
I would like to control the speed of the CPU fan automatically, according to the temperature.
    I tried
-the Dual CoreCenter utility from MSI, but it allows me only check the speed manually (If I did not miss anything)
-control from BIOS HW Monitor setting SmartFan but it does not work at all. ( Iam not sure but this can be because my cooler, it has 3 pin connector, and th MB user guide tells it works only if I use 4 pin connector. Can you confirm this?)
-Speedfan 4.31, it seemed working, but the system become instabile. I check the programmers site, and this MB did not supported.
Do you have any suggesions, experience about controlling the CPUfan?
    Thank you in advance!
    T.

    Thank you for the answers.
Unfortunately the smartfan feature is not working in my case.( set to 3-pin in BIOS) I asked the MSI Technical Support and they said:
As this motherboard includes 4 pins connector for cpu fan, the 4th pin is used to controlled cpu fan speed, if you use 3 pins fan, fan speed will not be changed automatically and smart fan will not function.
I feel a small contradiction here
Do you have other ideas other than smartfan and speedfan?
    T.

  • Dc5850 cpu fan speeds to top speed sys then shutdown

I have a Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq dc5850 Micro tower PC, now running windows 7 pro 64-bit. That was new in late 2008. Originally it came with vista 32-bit downgrade able to XP pro 32 bit, running on 2G RAM, and 160G C drive with a 2.30 gigahertz AMD Phenom 8600B Triple-Core processor. It also has ATI 3100 integrated graphics as well as integrated NIC at 1G and integrated High def audio. In the first few months I had the system, I upgraded memory by 4G and total Disc space by 500G by adding a D drive; then upgraded to windows 7 pro 64-bit.
Overall, I have had a good experience with the PC but it has had problems while in its 3-year warranty. I did need to replace the C drive and later it original RAM devices. Yes HP did these replacements and swaps, under warranty; that meant I had 6G memory for a long time before the HP 2Gig failed out of warranty, leaving me with 4Gig now. Yes I have always had the Unit on an UPS; I even replaced the old UPS with a more powerful unit in late 2009 or early 2010 when the old UPS showed signs of failure. Now instead of serial based UPS connection it is USB.
Over the last few months I have been getting blue-screen errors of all sorts. Ranging from video related errors, Memory faults, Disc read/write failures and processor flag errors too. After numerous repair disc runs or re-install of windows, the disc read write errors wore corrected by the HP drive sanitation utility disc repair/wipe after failing the extended test. The non video ram was tested by a bootable CD of memtest86 v4 running extended test as well as MS memory Diagnostic. Both run multiple times, both passed multiple times. I was able to find a CD based video diagnostic for ATI and the Video passed repeated stress test as well. Over Labor Day I conducted these test and re-installed windows 64-bit; on the following Monday windows informed me I needed to activate windows, so I verified the correct key and called to do so, successfully.
With that background given here is the question. Recently over the last two or three months, for no apparent reason, mainly on boot the fan races to top speed and the system shuts down to protect itself. I researched this a little and found one cause to be inadequate airflow over the CPU to keep it cool; the recommendation made sense to vacuum with a computer vacuum and be sure airflow is not somehow obstructed. I am now thinking all these problems are related to the CPU temp sensor. Is it on the CPU fan or the motherboard, and can raising the fan speed in BIOS help prevent the problem, particularly if it on the motherboard.
    John M Gray II

My pentium 4 3.0c stock Intel fan is 4.44 watts. Isn't the mobo designed for this?
Also, can the sys fan header have the speed sensor activated by a bios fix or is it a hardware issue where it just does not exist? If hardware, seems strange since Corecell shows sys fan.
