Toshiba laptop will not boot up

Hello.
A couple days ago my younger brother (in a fit of rage on a video game he was playing on the laptop) slammed the laptop shut and tossed it on his bed. I took the laptop and tried turning it on and got nothing. I have reached a screen where it asked to either "Start windows normally" or with Windows repair and choosing to Start windows normally will only give me a black screen for a few seconds and then start over again asking me which option to choose. I have tried choosing the other option and all I got was a black screen with my cursor and nothing more. I have tried many solutions online and so far none of them have worked. A friend of mine told me to "revert the system settings" but I couldn't figure out how to do that. The laptop screen was already cracked from previous encounters with my younger brother and we use an external moniter. I tried resetting my laptop to factory settings by reading somewhere to hold 0 (zero) when I turn the laptop on until it beeps but I got this message:
Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 083)
Copyright (C) Intel Corporation
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.0.2.7(11/02/10)
Check cable connection!
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.
I have no idea what any of that means but I do not have a disk for my laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys!!

It sounds like it doesn't see the hard drive. It's possible that the drive was disconnected. Many models have a small door on the bottom that you can remove to access the hard drive. You may want to check that it's connected securely. If you don't know what you're looking for, try doing a Google Image search of a laptop hard drive.

Do you have a compatible OSX installed on this 'storage' HDD?  If not, it will not boot your MBP.

  • Laptop will not boot, no display and flashing caps key

    Hi,
I am attemping to repair a laptop for a family member, their baby threw up on the keyboard, although after they cleared it up they said it was still working (booting into windows, mouse working etc). They took the old keyboard out themselves but it looks like they were a bit heavy handed with it; there are quite a few scratches on the metal plate underneath the keyboard and the plastic surround. I have not yet been able to confirm if the laptop was still booting after the keboard was removed.
Anyway - I went to their house to do what I thought was going to be a relatively easy job, simply connecting the new keyboard. Now the laptop will not boot, there is no display on the screen and we get a flashing CAPS/F12 key. I have looked at the table for LED codes, but I am not sure if it is one flash lots of times, or six flashes. The warranty has also run out so sending to HP not really an option.
There are six short flashes, with quite a long pause between each one. After this the laptop powers off and after another pause turns itself back on and starts over. If it is one flash (CPU) then I guess they must have shafted something on the board by shoving the screwdriver in underneath the keyboard to prise it away from the laptop. There is however not an awful lot of stuff exposed - there is a fairly substancial metal plate under where the keyboard would sit to protect the laptop.
I am hoping at the moment that it is showing six flashes - which is BIOS authentication error. I am not that familiar with HP products, but could this be caused by installing a non-genuine keyboard? The keyboard looks the same from the top, but was bought for less than a tenner on ebay.
If anybody has any ideas that would be great.

  • Toshiba Satellite Laptop - Will Not Boot, Safe Mode Not Accessible

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your help.
I am trying to help my mother-in-law (I know, who does that!?) with her laptop. Because of the boot problems, I can only offer you limited info on the specs, but here is what I do know.
    Toshiba Satellite
    Model Number PSAE6C-TJ908C
    2 Gig RAM (assuming DDR2)
    HDD is a Toshiba MK2035GSS 200Gig
    OS Windows Vista
    Bios Version 2.60
    Problem:
First it would boot ok in one user account, but when booted in secondary account it would act odd, ie caps lock stayed on when not pressed, etc. Deleted secondary account, ran Windows repair function, now I cannot access the primary account, will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc. I have to use an external keyboard as the laptop keyboards enter key and "a" keys do not work. (New keyboard which was replaced in December, warranty has since run out, thank you Staples.)
Any and all help greatly appreciated. I'll answer any other questions you have as they come up, I realize I may have left out some key details.
I forgot to add a couple of details. When booting, it hangs at the Toshiba screen prompting for either F2 for setup or F12 for boot device selection, when you reach the log in screen it gives a number of odd sounding beeps (3 I believe), the Filter Keys box comes up, and when you try to enter the login password it will not recognize it.

    Satellite A200-TJ (9PSAE6C-TJ908C)
will not boot in safe mode, can not change boot sequence in setup to boot from cd or run restore disc.

That's one sick laptop. If the thing beeps on startup and even the keyboard doesn't work, I'd figure on replacing it.
Are there important files you need to rescue?

  • Hp pavilion laptop will not boot up.

I get this error The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum. I'm not able to do anything with it after this screen, it will not boot to safe. What can I do?
I've removed the battery, which is dead anyway; laptop is plugged in.  Have tried different power source and that doesn't help.
There  is no blinking cursor, etc. I have tried F2 & ran that memory & hard disk diagnosis & nothing seems to be amiss. On the error log I really didn't see any errors.
I don't have recovery disc either but laptop won't boot to cd rom drive so even if I had recovery disc am not sure that would work.
Help please I'm at a loss now of what to do.  Thanks.

  • When i install a 2nd 1gb stick of memory in my pavilion dv6000t laptop, the laptop will not boot.

HP Pavilion dv6000t running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit version.  My system currently is running on a single 1GB stick of memory.  I have a 2nd matching 1GB stick of memory.  When I install the 2nd stick of memory the system will not boot.  All the lights come on, the hard drive spins up, but you can not even get into the BIOS setup screen, it just sits there with a blank screen.  What could be causing this.  Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

    Hi:
When I encounter issues like that, I switch the memory modules to see if one of the chips is bad.
So, I recommend you remove the one memory chip that is working, and put the other one in its place.
If the PC boots up, now install the second chip and see what happens.
If it doesn't boot up, then there is some undefined hardware issue.
If the PC doesn't boot up when you initially switch the memory with the one stick, then you know that the one memory module is bad.

  • Laptop will not boot, stops at Toshiba screen then an error message. Can't access BIOS

I receive the following error message:
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.2.7(11/02/10)
    Check cable connection!
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
Before it first shut down, there was some blue screen with a message I was unable to read in time. I turned it back on and got the above message. I have done some research and it sounds like some kind of hard drive problem. I've checked the hard drive connection and it's fine, the same message appears. I also saw that you can access BIOS(not sure what this is exactly, I've never used it) and then somehow recover, reset or change a boot setting that may have changed by itself. I can't access it though. I have tried F8, I have tried pressing escape as soon as the red Toshiba screen comes on, and also tried holding it and releasing when the tone sounds, then pressing F1 but all I get is a tone and no screen.
It's about to be finals week and I really need some help getting this fixed...preferrebly without having to by a new hard drive because all kinds of homework, papers and study info is on this computer. I haven't even had it for two years yet. I can attach a picture of the screen if needed but it's just a black screen with the above message.
    Thanks for any help!
EDIT: Satellite L655-S5150 and Windows 7
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It does sound like a hard drive related issue, be it a virus, or physical failure.  If you have fast boot enabled, you will need to hold down F8 while you power up, as just tapping F8 at the BIOS splash screen will not work.  If you are unable to recover that way, hopefully you created recovery media when you first got the laptop(it would have prompted you in the action center).
If that was not done, you could always swap in a new hdd to get the system up and running, and get a eSATA to USB cable to get all of your info off your old drive.

  • G580 Laptop will not boot due to the harddrive some how disconnecting

    Hello,
My problem with my G580 is that when I start up there is a sounds coming from the laptop and in the booting device list, the HDD with windows 7 on it which is the main HDD won't show. Pretty sure it is because the HDD somehow disconnected but how much will it cost if I send it in to lenovo to fix it?
Video of when I start it up... https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bzb6bwEsdb02cS1RV05aTkVSbUU/edit?usp=sharing

    Hi Brandon,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that your G580 Laptop is not detecting the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and not booting to Windows. I would suggest you to perform the BIOS reset once and check if the HDD is detected in BIOS, below are the steps for the same:
To access BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on “F9” Key and select YES.
Now click on “F10” Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer should automatically restart. Please check if the issue persists.
If the issue persists even after performing BIOS reset, I would suggest you to contact our Technical Support for further Assistance to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed and for information about repair cost.
Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.
Do post us back for further queries.

I have loaded this driver and added the newid=0x14e4 0x1713 but still

I read on another site that you need to update the initrd with the new

  • Envy DV7 laptop will not boot without the power cord being connected

My laptop won't boot on its own even when the battery indicator reads "fully charged (97%). If I have the power cord plugged into the computer (and the wall), it boots right away. Without the power cord, the "power indicator light" flashes once, the screen brightens to a lighter shade of gray, then it just shuts down.
I'm thinking I need to replace the battery but I thought it best to check with the experts first...................☺
    Thanks!!
ETA..........I just saw the post about power cord failure. My power cord is one of those affected and I will be filling out the request for a replacement. Unfortunately my serial number is apparently located inside the battery compartment. I'm wondering if my cord has overheated and caused this boot problem with my computer.

    Hello, @jksweeney
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that your having an issue with the power and your notebook. That you've applied to have the power cord replaced as it was part of the recall.
Please let me know when that has been taken care of if the issue remains. I will remain subscribe to this thread, so that I will be notified if you post again.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello and welcome,
You didn't say which laptop.  I don't know if that will turn out to be important, but it might.
If you used the Windows 7 USB prep tool, you probably have an NTFS-formatted flash drive intended for legacy (not UEFI) booting.  Go into BIOS and switch from UEFI to legacy booting and see if that helps.
Since this was a Win 8 machine the drive is probably GPT formatted.  The Win 7 installer may complain that it can't install to a GPT drive when booted in legacy mode.  If that happens you can use SHIFT-F10 to bring up a command window and run Diskpart.  Diskpart can clean the drive so the legacy installer can format it MBR.
It's also possible to install in UEFI mode but that would require prepping the flash drive differently.

  • Toshiba Satellite WILL NOT BOOT PROPERLY -- URGENT -- HELP NEEDED

    Hey guys,
I have a Toshiba Satellite P745-S4217, running x64 Windows 7 Home Premium. On Saturday (19/4), a problem occured where my computer automatically booted in Safe Mode. Normally I wouldn't start my PC in Safe Mode, so I turned the computer off to reboot it normally. When I went to reboot, though, at the *Starting Windows* screen, it went straight to a BSOD and rebooted by itself, then giving me to option to Launch Startup Repair or try again. Of course, I went to launch the Startup Repair, but then it simply went into a black screen and stayed there for around 4 hours before I chose to reboot again. The second time I rebooted, it did the BSOD thing again and gave me the two options. Every time I chose Start Normally, it went into the BSOD and returned to the menu, and every time I launched Startup Repair, it went into the black screen.
By Sunday (20/4) I'd had enough of this. When I went to boot my computer, I rapidly tapped F12 to go into setup and reset the BIOS (another forum told me to do so). After this, however, when the computer went to reboot, it displayed a screen that said 'Select Proper Boot Device or Reboot and Insert Boot Device' or something along those lines. Since I don't have a Win7 Boot Disc (my PC came without that, a recovery disc, OR an installation disc since Win7 was preinstalled), I was thinking about creating a boot disc to solve the problem. However, since my PC runs slowly, I was also contemplating creating a restore disc that would return the PC to factory defaults -- yet, I don't have a hard drive to backup my files onto (I also have no way of doing this even if I did, remember my PC refuses to boot). Are there anymore solutions I could try to boot the computer correctly, or will I have to reinstall Win7? PLEASE HELP!

You might want to try any other suggestions in this article that you haven't already tried:

  • Downloaded and installed on my HP desk top works fine, tried to do the same on my Toshiba laptop will not work and can't close without restarting PC.

I have been using the Beta 4.0 on my desktop for over a month and have not had any major problems. Mostly just getting used to the layout of the page where controls are like tools etc. Occasionally when trying to go back to normal scree from full screen it would start showing sections of my desk top through the page in pixel blocks or sections. Since I reinstalled Windows 7 and reinstalled Beta 4.0 this hasn't happened.
I decided to go ahead and install the Beta 4.0 on my laptop and it acts like it is installed and when I click on it to open it it opens the start page but the busy spinning symbol just keeps spinning in the address bar on top. I can't do anything after that except close the page. Then when I try to open the older FF browser it says FF is already running. The only way I have been able to get it to load is to restart the PC. I haven't thought to try task manager until reading the questions and answers on this site.
When I go to uninstall programs the 4.0 is listed and I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it 3 times now with the same results. I did this on different days.
